      @@Boodieman72 Does the self emptying of the Shark IQ work well?

    • @Boodieman72
      @Boodieman72 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeardedTechGuy It does and it's bagless. It doesn't have a bin sensor in the robot so it doesn't know it needs to go back to the dock. It can be setup to go back 1/2 way though but not when its full. The side brushes move slowly so it doesn't fling debris but rather directs it to the middle.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Boodieman72 Bagless can be nice, I also like how with the i7+ is a "closed" system which is nice, but then you are throwing out bags.
      The slower brushes sound nice its like playing soccer on my floor with my roomba sometimes lol.
      thanks for the information!

      I have a Roomba 880. It's just about 5 years old. I am thinking of updating to an i7! My Roomba 880 doesn't have the mapping which I think will be an awesome bonus

    What would be nice is if Hue lights knew where the i7 was and turn on lights depending on what room it was in.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That would be pretty cool! I just have some of my lights turn on when the vacuum starts depending on the time of day and they turn off when it's done cleaning. Per room would be nice though to save on electricity!

    10:18 you were not able to recreate the issue because i7 and s9 have an extra iR sensor to be able to understand that it is simple a different color and not a cliff. All other lower tier Roombas do have that issue.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good to know! A few people mentioned they were having the issue on the i7 originally but I have not experienced it myself and the extra sensor makes sense.

    Hi! How does the bin do with carpet bunnies. I’ve had a roborock max and the bin was only good for hard floor surface empty not carpet. I purchased the i7 without but looking to add the bin just don’t want to waste the money if it’s the same

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only issue I have is sometimes pet fur is stuck in the carpet and wont get picked up. Otherwise I just let the i7+ do it's thing and empty the bag in the base whenever it tells me too. Which for me lasts longer than I expected. I'd buy the base station from somewhere you can return it if it doesn't work out (like amazon amzn.to/36TtPMh ).

    • @marissabrown6035

    How loud is running a regular vacuum. I get he has to mention it, but the 5 seconds it cleans itself is not a problem, if you compare it to the 20 minutes of using a manual vac.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll do some tests later tonight for some actual answers with my decibel meter but the i7 is a lot quieter compared to the 980 or my dyson v11 vacuum. The base emptying is louder than my dyson v11 on boost tho (or at least it sounds louder to me) and while it only runs for 10-15 seconds it's not something I'd want to have happen in the room next to me while I'm asleep lol

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay so bare in mind this wasn't super scientific and my DB meter is a cheapo one off Amazon ( amzn.to/3nEv2NF ). Everything was recorded at 2ft away from the object.
      Cleaning Base emptying (takes ~20 seconds) - 89.5 dBA
      i7+ - 65.6 dBA
      Dyson v11 Stick on Normal - 79.2 dBA
      Dyson v11 Stick on Boost - 84.5 dBA
      Roomba 980 (Eco) - 75.4 dBA
      Roomba 980 (Performance) - 79.6 dBA
      Overall the i7 makes a lot less noise compared to everything else its just that the cleaning base is very loud (as it needs lots of suction) so something to keep in mind for where you place the base or when you may consider running the roomba. The cleaning base really isn't that annoying specially with it only lasting about 20 seconds.

    Wait u mean u can make it so if u have a smart light bulb or something u can link it to alexa somehow to make it turn on when the irobot runs? If so that helps with one issue i was worried about as with the model im getting ( i6+ ) it says it needs some light to work but if i can set it up to have a smart light come on dim or some what bright in room some where when it auto cleans i would love that, curious how hard that would be to set up as never messed with anything like that with my alexa.
    EDIT: Just googled to try and find a tutorial to this but nothing shows up :/

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use IFTTT to send web requests to my webCoRE instance on my SmartThings hub to share my roomba state.
      What smart lights do you have?

    • @Slider-Man
      @Slider-Man 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeardedTechGuy Sorry just now saw this, i currently have none as wasnt sure what kind to get, only smart items i have currently is the smart plugs and ofc alexa. Seen alot of bad reviews for smart lights so never commited on any but for this feature i would love to get some and get them setup as my i6 will be here tomorrow.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cheapest option would be to get a smart light (or lights if you need a few) that are compatible with IFTTT (If This Then That) you can then have a automation setup when the roomba starts to turn on the lights.
      I suggest waiting to see if you really need lights for the i6+ though. As long as you aren't running the vacuum at night it should be fine with normal day light.

      @@BeardedTechGuy Hey so uh...I bought and paid for a i6+ on amazon for 340 bucks but they sent me a I7+ lol...is this a normal thing that happens? i confirmed its a I7 by looking underneath and the color and just now in app when setting up it says i7....very weird...im confused why they did this but happy too lol.

    Hey there. How does the robot handle coming across a pile of cat puke you haven't noticed or picked up yet? Is is smart enough to avoid, or does it create a huge mess?

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's going to make a mess. I'm not aware of any Robot Vacuum thats able to detect something like that and avoid it unfortunately.

    • @grimtastabod
      @grimtastabod 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BeardedTechGuy VacuumWars has recently talked about some models that have an actual camera in the front bumper that uses AI to recognize objects like shoes or piles of yuck, and supposedly avoid them. Hope iRobot responds and develops their own detection methods for us pet people!

    I went with the 960. Didn’t see value in the self emptying bin since you still have to open in on it to clean the filter and it still has charge and resume.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A good choice! The filter doesn't need to be cleaned every-time it runs so you aren't dealing with robot as much with the i7. Also for me my 980 would get full before finishing a whole cleaning cycle so unless I am home to empty it there is no way it would complete a cycle so the self emptying ability of the i7+ made more sense for me.

    Hi there! Does the furniture bumping reduces over time while the robot learns more of his environment? Because the last robot (A really old Roomba from 2015) I had is knocking way too often into walls and furniture, it ended up getting a ton of scratches on its bumper. Thank you!

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have no scientific evidence to support this but to me it seems that it slows down when its near something it thinks is there. This being from either the learned map or an object is senses with the camera. If I stand in its path it (to me) slows down before gently bumping into me.
      If I come up with a good way to test that I will make sure to include it in my next follow up video on it!
