This is very good news, the region really needs this both for commuters and goods. What I hope they will work on is: 1. Improving the service frequency for commuters to at least 1 train an hour both ways 2. Better connections to local public transport networks from the main termini to their CBDs unlike what's happening particularly in Mombasa 3. Ways of guaranteed security without the unnecessary and annoying dog searches. It needs to feel as convenient as a bus not like an airport. Hop on, hop off. 4. Stations that are lively and not just permitted to communters. Tea shops, better resting areas etc.

But as you can see from how much costs have become an issue including the struggle to secure funds to extend the line to Kisumu and Malaba, having to fork out another astronomical sum in the future for the conversion doesn't look like strategic planning.

Eldoret has no lake Port connecting Bukoba, Mwanza & Kampala. Kisumu can trade directly with Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi & Rwanda through it's port which makes it more viable for the SGR to pass through. Also the passenger traffic from Kisumu to Nairobi is higher
