A lovely and informative feature video. Kudos. I have leant a lot about the new Premium Class in Madaraka Express. What I would urge KR to do is to modify the Economy class so that it can at least march the comfort of a bus. It's too tiring from Nairobi to Mombasa and the seating arrangement should s flexible as in that Premium; if some people are travelling in a group, they should be able to turn the seats to face each other. Travelling should be an enjoyable experience and not a punishment.
A point of correction regarding the instructions for using the baby changing table: "Gently position your baby on the changing table" is written in Swahili as "MIAZE" instead of "MLAZE." (A Tanzanian 😊😊) check at 14:59

People who normally fly (and tourists) will use it in the holidays when flights get all booked. There are times when people can pay anything to get ANY means out ... The lounge is cool
THOSE SEATS SHOULD ALSO BE INSTALLED ON ALL KENYA AIRWAYS FLEET IF THEY WANT TO COMPETE GLOBALLY! THE TRAINS NEED CABINS FOR FAMILIES TO TRAVEL TOGETHER LIKE THE OLD BRITISH TRAINS WHICH HAD 1ST AND 2ND CLASS.
Seems nice, i would definately pay this. I did take the train from mombasa to nairobi in the cheapest class and the seats were terribly uncomfortable, plus a ton of people. This is very nice, a bit pricey tho, is comparable to a plane ticket. I would pay for it since i enjoyed the nice view from the train, seeing animals etc, was a nice experience. IF in a rush tho, 5 to 6 hours in a train vs 2 hours on a plane... for the same price mmmm. Good addition to the transportation offer tho.
I hope they upgrade the premium class lounge with time because it is honestly underwhelming compared to airport lounges. They should also offer snacks as well.Airport lounges offer snacks even if you will get meals on the plane. When they do these projects they need to see how we would compete on a global level. The cabins are however very nice.
My son never got over the nightmare of us taking almost 3 days from Mombasa to Nairobi. And it was first class those days. The train stalled ilikwama in the middle of nowhere at night it was cold day time we sweated. We ate every single snack we had but then no movement
I never wished to say this but wish you check the full story behind the train and the railway, and you'll know but all the same I really like this from Kenya. Very proud of you my Kenyan siblings for taking the first lead.

Uhhhhh, so I took the SGR in October 2022... this is new to me.... this looks amazing! So this is an upgraded SGR.... I'm pretty sure I paid like 2000 KES - second class, Madaraka Express. I quite enjoyed it. But this looks like something I will try when I come back. Thanks for the video.

Congrats Edna on being the 1st. Great content and editing. At that price, they need to offer more than coffee and water. Also, a small upgrade on the onboard food would help as well.
We need to share this as much as possible to destroy the narrative that Africa about underdevelopment, poverty, animals only … and all that negative talk. We need to start telling our story and I’m happy for people like Edna who are doing so already in grand style.
This is just a one time experience thing, but I doubt people will regularly use this as it’s the same price as me getting nairobi in 1 hour, , so I’d rather be at my destination in an hour than be stuck in a cube comfortably, for 6 hours to get to the same destination. They have to bring down the price to at least 7-8 k to do sell those seats
Exactly on point. Some on comments section think its about who can afford. If they were frequent travellers they will get it. You get a night flight sleep in your bed while someone else is tossing and turning on the train to reach at 3 am while you are in REM
The most important thing is CUSTOMER SERVICE that has been lucking in our public service industry in Kenya....I hope they will keep that at the highest standard possible
I used to ride on broke down Grey Hound buses in college and when i visited South Africa they were luxury. The Amtrak trains here in America are busted too. These trains in Kenya look like luxury.

115kph is good enough! Still faster and safer than driving! There is simply no need to go 300kph+ in a country with terrible safety standards!
