Absolutely insane to think that I (along with many others) picked this thing up for around 200 USD on black friday YEARS ago and now it sells for more than that...
I bought it for about 339 if I remember correctly, but almost 9 years ago in october of 2014, and it came with CoD advanced warfare the day it came out and the mmo game from bungie I dont remember the name of.
Something to consider... The PS2 was still having new game releases up through the 2010s... With the overall commercial success and general availability of PS4 hardware, I'd expect game companies to continue targeting "last gen" consoles for software development as it has to be easy cash for them by now.
Perhaps a lot of studios will still simply release their games on the PS4 when viable, but a lot of the bigger ones in terms of tech will need to leave the PS4 behind. They already struggled with some of the latest, so any next one of those will be PS5 and up. - Even though the PS4 is no slouch in its own right or generation (then again, they used some of the worst hard-drives you could find in terms of performance), the PS5 marked a significant jump in technology, also because it uses very different technology, mainly the SSD-drive. Which in turn is even setting the PC-market up for problems, as they're already probably looking at ways to make the PS5-games that take advantage of its SSD-performance work for PC-ports. Because the general consumer does NOT have a PC that even matches the PS5, let alone have a top-of-the-line drive or even the latest PCIe-interface. - So, I mean... the most demanding games are already asking for a lot and some of those that were still released on PS4 were probably on there because development started when the PS5 was (barely) in consumer's hands (think "Horizon" and "GoW" 2 and such). - They probably don't want to deal with the PS4's dated chips and especially slow drives anymore, unless they're games that aren't very demanding and not so difficult to optimize without needing to strip them down a lot. - But, again, both will probably happen, with flagship games being current-gen exclusives, which will also push the market to get the latest consoles, and then more general games that will still do well on previous-gen platforms, which of course many people still mostly are on.
Indie or smaller game’s absolutely, but the bigger studios are on to next gen. Sure. Ps2 lasted awhile but those last few years it was just like sports games
i saw it at a D&R (turkish brand, its mainly a bookstore chain but they do sell some console stuff including switches) at a mall, i was surprised that i saw it but it was probably display, a while later it was gone
Crazy to think I got my first PS4 back in 2019 Black Friday. The bundle came with God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Last Of Us Remastered. Got it for $250 new. Reflecting back now, that was a steal.
My last console is the ps3, which I still play to this day. I panic bought a lot of games when the ps3 store was supposed to be closing, so I have lots of games to play. I have little desire to pay 400 plus bucks for a new console, then pay another 60 bucks a year for online play. I used to get so HYPED for new consoles in my younger days. It was such a different, more innocent time. I would buy a less powerful discount console with free online play. Hopefully a startup can explore this kind of product.
Man if these were closer to the 200 mark I think a lot of parent's would have jumped at the deal on Christmas instead of buying a PS5 and relieving the supply shortage.
Bruh I just dont understand the shortage in the USA. In my country you can find PS5's sitting everywhere on the shelves. There is even this crazy ridiculous bundle for 5 games, a charging dock an extra controller and Pulse 3D headsets for $900.
I still have my old PS4 and want to sell it off by the end of this year. How much would it be worth? It had some liquid damage from Mulled Wine on the outer shell (don't ask why)
Wow that's expensive for a regular PS4 and not even the Pro model. I remember the PS3 slim bundles being 199.99 with two games and some having an extra digital game card at all the major retailers when they were being phased out. The 360 was even $99 at Walmart for a bit and they honored that price on bundles.
It feels like yesterday when it was 2013 and the PS4 and Xbox One had just been released. I have a PS5 now but I will always have my PS4. It's gotten me through too much rough times and it's given me too much nostalgia playing the games I love.
I currently work at GameStop and, YESS, I was so confused when we got a random shipment of ps4 slims from FedEx last week, because we consistently have PS5s now! 😂
Crazy, I still remember getting a PS4 launch day by randomly showing up at Target! I was so stoked because the store had 8 and I was 5th in Line. PS4 seemed like a super short lifespan.
Back in 2018 I bought a Xbox One S with minecraft included for $180 off of Amazon. It completely puzzles my mind to see a PS4 with MW2 costing 339 dollars in 2023!
For the past few weeks my local Walmart has had the PS5. Then all of the sudden they got the PS4 in. But the cheapest the PS4 has even been was Black Friday years ago when it was $200. Those were the good old days.
I still got both my black Friday $200 PS4 slims. The first one came with Spider-Man, then I got a backup one with God of war, last of us and Horizon Zero Dawn.
I bought it. Realize how dumb i was. Return it and got a full refund. And i got to keep call of duty for free. Bought the PS5 digital version. Plus most game developers will stop supporting ps4, as you can see with NFS unbound.
Yeah they definitely need to bring back actual unique designs with these bundle. Imagine how much better a HFW or Ragnarök bundle would be with an actual unique design. As opposed to essentially a cheaper way to get a digital download code with your console

I saw a PlayStation 5 at Walmart yesterday while shopping (still weird to see them out there). Additionally, I also saw that there were half a dozen 1TB PS4 slim in there too which was so strange. It’s been a good few months since I’d seen any in retail I assumed that at that point they stopped making them but I was wrong.
My PS4 still works so I don't have any reason to buy another one (and even if it broke, I doubt I'd buy one bundled with a Call of Duty game since I've never had any interest in that series) but PS4 games still look amazing to me and I'm really in no rush to upgrade to PS5 when there are still dozens of back catalogue PS4 games I still want to play.
Yeah the PS5 is super overrated, I got mine as a gift so I’m not complaining but I rarely even touch it, I’m still on ps4 for the most part. They’re pretty much the same apart from a worse menu for the ps5 and a clunky controller. And also faster loading times and all that schtick.
@@onesaucynougat7471 The deal with me is also that I don't have a 4K screen and only play games on screens that are tiny compared to the 50"+ screens a lot of gamers have today. On small, non 4K, non OLED screens, the graphical differences between 8th and 9th gen games are pretty minor, like 9th gen has ray-traced reflections which looks cool but doesn't really add anything new to the gameplay in most games (unless it's a game where reflections are very important, not so much driving games where I'm more concerned about the road ahead than I am whether I can see my own car reflected in the car besides me).
Exactly. I've got the PS4 and PS5. The PS4 is still being used today, and it's a fine console. In fact, I have a huge backlog of PS4 games to play so I didn't even need the PS5.
To me, the fact that they are still selling them is considerably more odd than the actual price point... I mean yeah, $339 seems high compared to Black Friday deals, but those are exceptions, not the rule. I look at at this way: It's still a pretty decent piece of technology that can run really decent looking games, with a fresh warranty, with a 1TB hard drive... all for HALF, or even a THIRD the price of a smart phone... In terms of technology and what you're actually PHYSICALLY getting, the price is almost justified in my opinion (maybe $300 instead of $339)... What's weird is the fact that they are still selling them more than 2 years into the PS5's life cycle... That's the confusing part to me. It's kind of like if a car dealership would still be selling NEW 2019 models...
Remember when you could get a brand new PS2 for like $80 at Wal-Mart or Best Buy during the systems twilight years? I don't know why Sony isn't as price aggressive anymore, but it might have something to do with how much money PSN is raking in
The ps2 was not only a great gaming system for a Iow price but also a great dvd player, I know a few people that bought one to use as a dvd player but ended up playing games and getting into gaming because of it.
one would think they would make the console more accessible in order to get more ppl into the PSN echosystem but sony/playstation became more and more greedy throughout the years.
Crazy to think one console was around not only in our elementary school but also got us through high school. It's old enough that old PS4 games can be considered nostalgic which is crazy because it was just last console generation but we played it when we were kids.
I could understand the PS3 being manufactured 2-3 years after its life cycle because PS4 had no backwards compatibility. PS4 it doesn't make sense because the PS5 can play almost every game from that generation.

I remember back then the PS4 came out, you could buy a PS3 for like 200 everywhere. Same goes for PSP back in 2012. I got my Street version for like 100 + 4 games. But 400 for a slim? If it would be a special edition with a COD theme maybe but just like that?

Try asking staff at the counters. Sometimes they have them stocked in the backrooms rather than displayed on the shelves. That's how it was in my local game store. Maybe you're just unlucky perhaps

Here in the UK, GAME have just recently got brand new PS4 Slims in and have them listed at £150 (about $185). I think they’d probably get a lot more shifted at that price point in the US, since that’s a far, far lower barrier to entry if you wanted one for whatever reason. They sell used PS4s for £145, so it’s almost a no brainer if you want a replacement/secondary system/console for your kid(s). That said, I remember Super Slim PS3s going even cheaper. Think I got mine for like £99 back in a Boxing Day sale in 2012.
I purchased a PS4 again cause I was really disappointed that you can't customize themes on the PS5. All that money I wasted on themes for the PS4. Honestly the PS4 & PS5 don't have much of gaming differences. Just more memory.

@@stepzagr9992 - I have the silver Batman: Arkham Knight edition from 2015. It's a base PS4 and it gets so loud when i'm playing graphically intense games that other people in my house get concerned. I'll eventually get a PS5 but in the meantime I just wear headphones while playing it lol. Edit: I have taken it apart multiple times to make sure it's clean and have it in an area to get the best airflow possible. I think I need to replace the thermal place to fix it.
Half of the people changing to Xbox now cause ps5 don't have any games like call of duty mw2, God of war , and nba2k23 it will get bored playing the same on games Xbox have next gen free pass games you don't have to pay for a game to play when you have membership for Xbox but other then, I couldn't wast my money on a ps5 cause is trash 🗑️ Ive played it before is not all that.
@Mystic I think inflation just cancelled out any of the PS4 price drops for the time. So because of inflation, when they would’ve dropped, the price, inflation went up just to keep it maintained or the price the same But I could be completely wrong
Series s is really boring maybe I’m getting old but I got one for 250 and had the game pass for 1$ and it’s actually a horrible set of games available compared to PlayStation plus extra I didn’t really play most of my time having it never renewed and only use it for tv shows etc now.
$300 is still cheaper than the disc-less PS5 which costs $400 now, and the disc PS5 costs $500. There is still a huge market for those consoles based on price alone. Not to mention a lot of people want the disc version, so in that case it's a $200 difference.
I'm curious if SONY is keeping the price so high as to not undercut the PS5, since it's selling slow. The PS4 should be $250 tops, to get people into the ecosystem. I can't imagine it costs them much to make, being as the technology is almost ancient history at this point.
I waited for a while for prices to drop to typical end of gen clearance levels and it never happened. I ended up buying a used ps4 pro because I wanted to exploit it but keep mine stock. Had to pay nearly msrp. This was the first gen I've not seen prices fall before the inevitable collectors spike years after stock has been depleted. If they manufactured new ps4 pros I'd probably bite.
with black friday 2023 being around the corner, I can see vendors discounting them for good as $199.99 in fact Target did so as veteran day sale. I got one. Should be interesting to see the manufacture date and the version number as well
I got my PS4 from Walmart in Louisiana for $299 for MW2 bundle around June of 2023, with 10.00 firmware as well, the guy said it was priced the same as base model with no game because they were trying to get rid of them, so of course i bought the bundle one over the base model. After watching this video, I checked my manufacture date, It's Feburary of 2023, Nice! My PS4 is 7 months old as of September 2023!
I bought the same bundle, for the same price, around the same time, and at Walmart too. I bought mine off the shelf in Minnesota. My PS4 is also a Feb 2023. I believe we have a few from the true final run.

True. I bought mine in 3 2016 for perhaps $260 (guesstimating conversion rate and inflation) and it included a second controller and three months of a streaming service. The slim was just one month old at that point. I'm so much looking forward to the PS5 slim and what the design will be. I'm going for the disc version/addon, as everyone should.
On Cyber Monday 2015, I purchased my first PS4, the 500GB Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection bundle for $299.99 exactly, back when Newegg didnt charge tax on online orders. It blows my mind that almost 8 years later, people would still pay the same amount for a PS4 (slim) with a 1TB HDD for essentially the same price. Its such a bad deal in 2023, when you can get an Xbox Series S for the same price or less. Even the PS5 DE is only $100 more. Ok sure, PS5's arent as easy to find, but they have been regularly available from PS Direct for awhile now.

@BiggMatt183 if we're going by this logic, then I paid less than $300 for my PS4 since it also came with Uncharted Collection , my point stands, no point in bringing up semantics. Also PS4 consoles standalone without MW2 are being sold for $300 from PS Direct, which makes MW2 $40 according to Playstation. The point is, PS4 is overpriced in 2023, especially when compared to current gen consoles and to the PS2 and PS3 at the same time in their life cycles.
Bought a used PS4 for around 160 American dollars recently. Never owned one before and there's alot of games I've missed so I'm enjoying it even now in 2023
In many ways the PS3 was the most mindblowing one; The day we went HDMI! ;-) It was also a fast and nice BluRay-machine at the time (honestly, still is) The PS3 design is also the coolest looking ever! (imo) I do however have very warm memories with my PS1, and ESPECIALLY PS2! (SSX Tricky, anyone?) I have very little fondness in regards to the PS4 though.. Now, with my new pre-ordered PS5? Only time will tell :-)
I still remember buying the spiderman bundle the year it came out for 199.. ps4 slim which I never ended up opening cuz I got the PS4 pro as a gift around the same time.... good times!
I really want to buy a backup PS4 but word of warning. I recently opened my sealed backup Slim PS2 and found out it doesn't read discs so best to test it out before you let it sit in a box for 10+ years.
Well I just bought a new 1TB slim at my Walmart for that very reason, a backup, so I guess I need to check it out before putting it away-I’m still currently using my camouflage CoDWW2 special edition slim
I bought it because I didn’t have a PS4. I wanted a new one, not something used. Other than the price being a negative, I love the feeling of opening up a new console.
You will have a whole library of good games on the cheap now that it's at the end of it's cycle, not a bad deal at all considering PS5 cost twice as much and most developers are still releasing PS4 versions of their new titles.
I literally bought Last of Us 2, Spider-Man, Uncharted 4, Batman, Death Stranding, Read Dead 2, God of War, Cyberpunk and more all for under $15 each brand new sealed. By the time I’m done, PS5 games will also be on clearance
i found it odd as well, but where i live in Canada they started popping up again in late 2020, and all through 2021 and then they disappeared again in 2022.
Funny to see you talking about this. My eldest bought one in December at Gamestop, mainly because she wanted a warranty and was concerned about getting a used one. It’s a bit pricey for what it is, now, and I wouldn’t have bought one for myself, but she’s happy with her purchase so there’s that.
I wonder if PS4 will have a big price drop before it dies out. Now that PS5 shortages have finally ended, I don't think they'll keep making PS4s for much longer. Could we see a $200 or even a $150? $150 sounds really low but who knows.
I was in my local Walmart about a month ago. They had 2 I couldn’t believe they were $339. A month later there’s still one left. If it was $200 I would consider buying it as a shelf piece as the last PS4.
Not a PS fanboy, i own Pc's and consoles. But... ive never had jet engine, overheating, etc problems. In saying that, i maintain my pc's and consoles regularly tear them down, clean and re paste them with better paste than factory. Its all good.
I remember waiting in line for 6 hours to pick my ps4 up at midnight release. An old friend and I were talking on the phone while he waited as well. First game we played together was resogun on co-op
I bought one of these yesterday for $299.00 off my local wal-marts pick up - in store/website thing. I got it because I wanted to get a taste of the Sony titles so many love before I eventually get a PS5 and the 200 dollars off was worth it. God of War is amazing - and from what I hear Ragnarok runs basically as good even tho its a Ps5 title too. So many other titles but all in all happy with my purchase even in 2023.
I'm still shocked to see sony charging that for these. You'd think they'd wanna go towards the lower end of the market below series s. Sure the S will get more modern game, but the ps4 has a fantastic library that would be great to come into at a cheap price point for those who can't afford the ps5. Plus odds are we will see great indie games for years to come.
I bought a ps4 slim in dec 2020 for $260, came with 3 games, spider-man goty, hzd, and gt sport. I still use it today even though I already have a ps5.
It comes with a $70 game what your expecting then to give you the game away free just charge you for the console you have the choice to buy the one that comes with no game that’s $299
@plopsan That's not true just good marketing on sonys part also the fact ps4 games are so incredibly popular their moving over to ps5 should tell you how good the ps4 is.
PS4 is the best console I've ever played on I still play on the launch console and it's still the same amazing experience I really hope Sony continues to make PS4 consoles and continue to update them and make games because it's the best system evermade.
If I have the chance to buy a brand new PS4 over a used one that you don't know what someone has done with it or how many hours it has been played I would prefer a new console over a used console any day
I just bought this same GameStop bundle a few days ago. I already have a PS4 & PS5, but I bought it to keep sealed. Either I sell it in 10+ years, or open it when FW 10.00 becomes exploited and install an 8TB SSD into it and transfer over everything from my current 9.00 PS4 to the new one with the large internal SSD storage.
Only the original model ps4 can accept up to 8tb on the internal, from an SSD that size or those bulkier docks for the 3.5” hdds. The slim and pro can only accept up to 6tb on the internal.
@@MATTKBAN I'll see when I get there. The Pro can accept 8TB, there's a TH-cam video on it. I imagine if the Phat and the Pro can do it, the Slim can do it too.
yeah I just went into Walmart today and was surprised to see these in stock and especially at the $300 price point I was also under the assumption that they stopped producing these it would have been smart of Sony to try to push these during the pandemic at a discounted price but I believe they were also hard to find during the pandemic at the $300 price point it just doesn't make sense when you have PS5 available now have they need to drop their price by at least half and they will probably fly off the shelves .
We didn't even get this bundle as they stopped selling PS4's in the UK ages ago. Mad how prices stay high now. Back in the day when a console was at the end of its lifecycle they sold them dirt cheap. I bought a stack of brand new PlayStation 1s for just £60 each, and PlayStation 2s for just £99 each. I bought like 20 of each and put them in storage. I ended up selling most of them in lockdown. They made very good money. Great investment. Shame those days are gone or I would have stored a bunch of these too.
I was thinking the same. I'm pretty sure, when the gamecube was on its last few weeks on the shops, I bought my gamecube for less then €100. I was considering hunting down and picking up a ps4 in the shops for a reduced price but it never happened. Maybe the ps5 shortage made folk buy the 4 when they couldn't get a 5. Gamestop are selling a used ps4 for €330 online 😂
I agree, I liked the $100 PS3, especially learning it was still compatible with ps1 games (they only pulled ps2 backwards compatibility on later models) and digital ones had manuals. This idea sucks given the xbox series s has $250 sales and you're halfway to a $200 switch lite.

The Last Of Us 1 and 2, stuff like that. Those will make good money in 5 to 10yrs time. Back in the day I purchased loads of sealed copies of Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas for £5 each. They sold in lockdown for up to £375 EACH!.

@@Matty_UK lol gta trilogy remastered was so bad that it was the best thing to happen to you as a reseller. Made me go back to mobile vice city. Nowadays with remakes/remasters, we are only thankful to not have missing features from the original, while they also cost more. I was glad when gba added so much to final fantasy games that the pixel remasters took away, like the peninsula of power in the first 2.
i bought a 2nd hand ps4 pro around christmas as i desperately needed a upgrade and i have no regrets. i didn't get ps5 as i am waiting for a revision of the system first, i think sony still selling ps4 is good however i think shortly they will move to purely ps5. also amazing vid as always mystic.
Ps5 just started to get available why would they make a pro when they just ramped up ps5 production Edit: adding on to this, the reason the pro and slim were made is because the original was seriously underpowered for the standards at the time, the ps5 is still good right now so idk why they would make a new version outside of some damage control

Glad I'm not the only one waiting for a PS5 Pro and a better and bigger exclusive library. Most of the good games are also coming out for the PS4. I'm still enjoying the shut outta my Pro 4.

This is interesting- in Japan at the moment the only PS4 model still listed on Sony's site is the 500GB model. It's rather hard to find a new PS4 in the wild here, I've only seen them on a few sites online. New models are definitely getting a bit more expensive- I bought a new PS4 over a year ago and it was at least 5000yen cheaper than they are now.
I've been searching for a brand new PS4 for a long time and can't seem to find one. Every single store tells me that they're discontinued. I really want one but I don't want to pay full price for a used console.
I still don't see them in local stores like Target or Wal Mart out here in Los Angeles. The most I see so far is a few Nintendo Switches and maybe a couple XBox Series Ss. I remember trying to get one before I got my PS5 since they were still sold out at the time, and they were still priced at $350-450 just for the core system. At this point, might as well get a PS5 core system and play PS4 games on it.
Wouldn't bother with a discless ps5, used ps4 disc games are so much cheaper than digital purchases around here that cost of the system would be quickly offset by the actual games.

PS4 Pro for 300$ i could see people getting this nowadays, would make sense. But the regular original PS4 for 300$ in 2023? Man, i feel bad for the kids that want a PlayStation for their Birthday and this is what their parents pull up on presentday 😶
I seen one in Walmart right after Christmas then noticed the price. Found a ps5 same day at target. Just way overpriced for a last gen console that's on the way out and has no backwards capabilitie
That's always the problem PS4 had, fortunately many great games were made for it to compensate. PS5 will struggle the same way eventually if nothing changes, but for anyone that never had a PS4 and is interested getting into the PS4 library, PS5 is not a bad deal.
I have very rarely ever run into any problems with my PS4 Slim being loud, it’s going very strong for me going on 6 years in April this year. Other than some weird issues in early 2020 with a few times of “not enough space” bugs going on whenever I clearly had more than enough for everything on my console (had to go through Safe Mode 4 times before it finally went away and thankfully never came back) everything has run pretty smoothly which I’m very grateful for and I even decided last year to get a skin for it, which I have a Blue Lightning one that really adds an extra good look to it.
Trying to find a new one here in ireland is really hard, gamestop selling a used one for €330. Madness. If and when the price of these do drop down to a really affordable price, it would definitely be worth picking up, this gen is one which I think you can go back to in 10 years time and not really struggle with the graphics, the ps3/Xbox 360 era, I find it a little difficult jumping back into
I have a pro that’s very loud. I’m so glad that I was able to get one, they are very quiet. It’s amazing when you compare it to the launch model or the pro, the pro sounds like a jet ready to take off and the slim barely makes a whisper. The one thing I noticed about this slim model is that HDR doesn’t look as good as the pro model but that's a very minor thing for me. Overall, this was a good buy for me.
The thermal paste between the heat sink and cpu has probably dried out if you had it for over 2 years. Best to replace the paste or put a thermal pad and never worry about PlayStation airlines.

Something to consider... The PS2 was still having new game releases up through the 2010s... With the overall commercial success and general availability of PS4 hardware, I'd expect game companies to continue targeting "last gen" consoles for software development as it has to be easy cash for them by now.

Perhaps a lot of studios will still simply release their games on the PS4 when viable, but a lot of the bigger ones in terms of tech will need to leave the PS4 behind. They already struggled with some of the latest, so any next one of those will be PS5 and up. - Even though the PS4 is no slouch in its own right or generation (then again, they used some of the worst hard-drives you could find in terms of performance), the PS5 marked a significant jump in technology, also because it uses very different technology, mainly the SSD-drive. Which in turn is even setting the PC-market up for problems, as they're already probably looking at ways to make the PS5-games that take advantage of its SSD-performance work for PC-ports. Because the general consumer does NOT have a PC that even matches the PS5, let alone have a top-of-the-line drive or even the latest PCIe-interface. - So, I mean... the most demanding games are already asking for a lot and some of those that were still released on PS4 were probably on there because development started when the PS5 was (barely) in consumer's hands (think "Horizon" and "GoW" 2 and such). - They probably don't want to deal with the PS4's dated chips and especially slow drives anymore, unless they're games that aren't very demanding and not so difficult to optimize without needing to strip them down a lot. - But, again, both will probably happen, with flagship games being current-gen exclusives, which will also push the market to get the latest consoles, and then more general games that will still do well on previous-gen platforms, which of course many people still mostly are on.

My last console is the ps3, which I still play to this day. I panic bought a lot of games when the ps3 store was supposed to be closing, so I have lots of games to play.
I have little desire to pay 400 plus bucks for a new console, then pay another 60 bucks a year for online play. I used to get so HYPED for new consoles in my younger days. It was such a different, more innocent time.
I would buy a less powerful discount console with free online play. Hopefully a startup can explore this kind of product.

Wow that's expensive for a regular PS4 and not even the Pro model. I remember the PS3 slim bundles being 199.99 with two games and some having an extra digital game card at all the major retailers when they were being phased out. The 360 was even $99 at Walmart for a bit and they honored that price on bundles.

I saw a PlayStation 5 at Walmart yesterday while shopping (still weird to see them out there). Additionally, I also saw that there were half a dozen 1TB PS4 slim in there too which was so strange. It’s been a good few months since I’d seen any in retail I assumed that at that point they stopped making them but I was wrong.

My PS4 still works so I don't have any reason to buy another one (and even if it broke, I doubt I'd buy one bundled with a Call of Duty game since I've never had any interest in that series) but PS4 games still look amazing to me and I'm really in no rush to upgrade to PS5 when there are still dozens of back catalogue PS4 games I still want to play.
Yeah the PS5 is super overrated, I got mine as a gift so I’m not complaining but I rarely even touch it, I’m still on ps4 for the most part. They’re pretty much the same apart from a worse menu for the ps5 and a clunky controller. And also faster loading times and all that schtick.
@@onesaucynougat7471 The deal with me is also that I don't have a 4K screen and only play games on screens that are tiny compared to the 50"+ screens a lot of gamers have today. On small, non 4K, non OLED screens, the graphical differences between 8th and 9th gen games are pretty minor, like 9th gen has ray-traced reflections which looks cool but doesn't really add anything new to the gameplay in most games (unless it's a game where reflections are very important, not so much driving games where I'm more concerned about the road ahead than I am whether I can see my own car reflected in the car besides me).
Exactly. I've got the PS4 and PS5. The PS4 is still being used today, and it's a fine console. In fact, I have a huge backlog of PS4 games to play so I didn't even need the PS5.
To me, the fact that they are still selling them is considerably more odd than the actual price point... I mean yeah, $339 seems high compared to Black Friday deals, but those are exceptions, not the rule. I look at at this way: It's still a pretty decent piece of technology that can run really decent looking games, with a fresh warranty, with a 1TB hard drive... all for HALF, or even a THIRD the price of a smart phone... In terms of technology and what you're actually PHYSICALLY getting, the price is almost justified in my opinion (maybe $300 instead of $339)... What's weird is the fact that they are still selling them more than 2 years into the PS5's life cycle... That's the confusing part to me. It's kind of like if a car dealership would still be selling NEW 2019 models...
My ps4 was manufactured in 2015. I replaced the thermal paste/pads and swapped out the drive. Still going strong.

The ps2 was not only a great gaming system for a Iow price but also a great dvd player, I know a few people that bought one to use as a dvd player but ended up playing games and getting into gaming because of it.

Here in the UK, GAME have just recently got brand new PS4 Slims in and have them listed at £150 (about $185). I think they’d probably get a lot more shifted at that price point in the US, since that’s a far, far lower barrier to entry if you wanted one for whatever reason. They sell used PS4s for £145, so it’s almost a no brainer if you want a replacement/secondary system/console for your kid(s).
That said, I remember Super Slim PS3s going even cheaper. Think I got mine for like £99 back in a Boxing Day sale in 2012.

I purchased a PS4 again cause I was really disappointed that you can't customize themes on the PS5. All that money I wasted on themes for the PS4. Honestly the PS4 & PS5 don't have much of gaming differences. Just more memory.

Edit: I have taken it apart multiple times to make sure it's clean and have it in an area to get the best airflow possible. I think I need to replace the thermal place to fix it.

$300 is still cheaper than the disc-less PS5 which costs $400 now, and the disc PS5 costs $500. There is still a huge market for those consoles based on price alone. Not to mention a lot of people want the disc version, so in that case it's a $200 difference.

I'm curious if SONY is keeping the price so high as to not undercut the PS5, since it's selling slow. The PS4 should be $250 tops, to get people into the ecosystem. I can't imagine it costs them much to make, being as the technology is almost ancient history at this point.
I waited for a while for prices to drop to typical end of gen clearance levels and it never happened. I ended up buying a used ps4 pro because I wanted to exploit it but keep mine stock. Had to pay nearly msrp. This was the first gen I've not seen prices fall before the inevitable collectors spike years after stock has been depleted. If they manufactured new ps4 pros I'd probably bite.

I got my PS4 from Walmart in Louisiana for $299 for MW2 bundle around June of 2023, with 10.00 firmware as well, the guy said it was priced the same as base model with no game because they were trying to get rid of them, so of course i bought the bundle one over the base model. After watching this video, I checked my manufacture date, It's Feburary of 2023, Nice! My PS4 is 7 months old as of September 2023!

Its such a bad deal in 2023, when you can get an Xbox Series S for the same price or less. Even the PS5 DE is only $100 more. Ok sure, PS5's arent as easy to find, but they have been regularly available from PS Direct for awhile now.

Also PS4 consoles standalone without MW2 are being sold for $300 from PS Direct, which makes MW2 $40 according to Playstation. The point is, PS4 is overpriced in 2023, especially when compared to current gen consoles and to the PS2 and PS3 at the same time in their life cycles.

Bought a used PS4 for around 160 American dollars recently. Never owned one before and there's alot of games I've missed so I'm enjoying it even now in 2023
In many ways the PS3 was the most mindblowing one; The day we went HDMI! ;-) It was also a fast and nice BluRay-machine at the time (honestly, still is) The PS3 design is also the coolest looking ever! (imo) I do however have very warm memories with my PS1, and ESPECIALLY PS2! (SSX Tricky, anyone?) I have very little fondness in regards to the PS4 though.. Now, with my new pre-ordered PS5? Only time will tell :-)

i found it odd as well, but where i live in Canada they started popping up again in late 2020, and all through 2021 and then they disappeared again in 2022.
Funny to see you talking about this. My eldest bought one in December at Gamestop, mainly because she wanted a warranty and was concerned about getting a used one.
It’s a bit pricey for what it is, now, and I wouldn’t have bought one for myself, but she’s happy with her purchase so there’s that.

I just bought a PS4 coming from a PS2. I’ve played PS2 basically my entire life, so this will be a quite the jump.
I wonder if PS4 will have a big price drop before it dies out. Now that PS5 shortages have finally ended, I don't think they'll keep making PS4s for much longer. Could we see a $200 or even a $150?

I was in my local Walmart about a month ago. They had 2 I couldn’t believe they were $339. A month later there’s still one left. If it was $200 I would consider buying it as a shelf piece as the last PS4.

Not a PS fanboy, i own Pc's and consoles. But... ive never had jet engine, overheating, etc problems. In saying that, i maintain my pc's and consoles regularly tear them down, clean and re paste them with better paste than factory. Its all good.
I remember waiting in line for 6 hours to pick my ps4 up at midnight release. An old friend and I were talking on the phone while he waited as well. First game we played together was resogun on co-op
I bought one of these yesterday for $299.00 off my local wal-marts pick up - in store/website thing. I got it because I wanted to get a taste of the Sony titles so many love before I eventually get a PS5 and the 200 dollars off was worth it. God of War is amazing - and from what I hear Ragnarok runs basically as good even tho its a Ps5 title too. So many other titles but all in all happy with my purchase even in 2023.

I'm still shocked to see sony charging that for these. You'd think they'd wanna go towards the lower end of the market below series s. Sure the S will get more modern game, but the ps4 has a fantastic library that would be great to come into at a cheap price point for those who can't afford the ps5. Plus odds are we will see great indie games for years to come.
Xbox has game pass tho, idk I love the ps4 but at this price point you’re better off getting a series S or saving another 100 and getting a ps5
I bought a ps4 slim in dec 2020 for $260, came with 3 games, spider-man goty, hzd, and gt sport. I still use it today even though I already have a ps5.
It comes with a $70 game what your expecting then to give you the game away free just charge you for the console you have the choice to buy the one that comes with no game that’s $299

PS4 is the best console I've ever played on I still play on the launch console and it's still the same amazing experience I really hope Sony continues to make PS4 consoles and continue to update them and make games because it's the best system evermade.
PS4 looks so much better than PS5.
If I have the chance to buy a brand new PS4 over a used one that you don't know what someone has done with it or how many hours it has been played I would prefer a new console over a used console any day
I just bought this same GameStop bundle a few days ago. I already have a PS4 & PS5, but I bought it to keep sealed. Either I sell it in 10+ years, or open it when FW 10.00 becomes exploited and install an 8TB SSD into it and transfer over everything from my current 9.00 PS4 to the new one with the large internal SSD storage.
Wish they had made a PS4 Pro run though, seems like this slim batch is all they're making.
Only the original model ps4 can accept up to 8tb on the internal, from an SSD that size or those bulkier docks for the 3.5” hdds.
The slim and pro can only accept up to 6tb on the internal.

yeah I just went into Walmart today and was surprised to see these in stock and especially at the $300 price point I was also under the assumption that they stopped producing these it would have been smart of Sony to try to push these during the pandemic at a discounted price but I believe they were also hard to find during the pandemic at the $300 price point it just doesn't make sense when you have PS5 available now have they need to drop their price by at least half and they will probably fly off the shelves .
We didn't even get this bundle as they stopped selling PS4's in the UK ages ago. Mad how prices stay high now. Back in the day when a console was at the end of its lifecycle they sold them dirt cheap. I bought a stack of brand new PlayStation 1s for just £60 each, and PlayStation 2s for just £99 each. I bought like 20 of each and put them in storage. I ended up selling most of them in lockdown. They made very good money. Great investment. Shame those days are gone or I would have stored a bunch of these too.

I was considering hunting down and picking up a ps4 in the shops for a reduced price but it never happened. Maybe the ps5 shortage made folk buy the 4 when they couldn't get a 5. Gamestop are selling a used ps4 for €330 online 😂
I agree, I liked the $100 PS3, especially learning it was still compatible with ps1 games (they only pulled ps2 backwards compatibility on later models) and digital ones had manuals. This idea sucks given the xbox series s has $250 sales and you're halfway to a $200 switch lite.

They sold in lockdown for up to £375 EACH!.

Nowadays with remakes/remasters, we are only thankful to not have missing features from the original, while they also cost more. I was glad when gba added so much to final fantasy games that the pixel remasters took away, like the peninsula of power in the first 2.

i bought a 2nd hand ps4 pro around christmas as i desperately needed a upgrade and i have no regrets. i didn't get ps5 as i am waiting for a revision of the system first, i think sony still selling ps4 is good however i think shortly they will move to purely ps5. also amazing vid as always mystic.
Same here. Really hoping there's a PS5 Pro with more ray tracing down the line. Big reason I haven't pulled the trigger myself yet on the PS5.

Edit: adding on to this, the reason the pro and slim were made is because the original was seriously underpowered for the standards at the time, the ps5 is still good right now so idk why they would make a new version outside of some damage control

Glad I'm not the only one waiting for a PS5 Pro and a better and bigger exclusive library. Most of the good games are also coming out for the PS4. I'm still enjoying the shut outta my Pro 4.

This is interesting- in Japan at the moment the only PS4 model still listed on Sony's site is the 500GB model. It's rather hard to find a new PS4 in the wild here, I've only seen them on a few sites online. New models are definitely getting a bit more expensive- I bought a new PS4 over a year ago and it was at least 5000yen cheaper than they are now.

Yeah, saw that bundle at my local electronics store - but with a 500 gig drive. €399 (with VAT) here in Finland.
I still don't see them in local stores like Target or Wal Mart out here in Los Angeles. The most I see so far is a few Nintendo Switches and maybe a couple XBox Series Ss. I remember trying to get one before I got my PS5 since they were still sold out at the time, and they were still priced at $350-450 just for the core system. At this point, might as well get a PS5 core system and play PS4 games on it.
Wouldn't bother with a discless ps5, used ps4 disc games are so much cheaper than digital purchases around here that cost of the system would be quickly offset by the actual games.

That's always the problem PS4 had, fortunately many great games were made for it to compensate. PS5 will struggle the same way eventually if nothing changes, but for anyone that never had a PS4 and is interested getting into the PS4 library, PS5 is not a bad deal.
I have very rarely ever run into any problems with my PS4 Slim being loud, it’s going very strong for me going on 6 years in April this year. Other than some weird issues in early 2020 with a few times of “not enough space” bugs going on whenever I clearly had more than enough for everything on my console (had to go through Safe Mode 4 times before it finally went away and thankfully never came back) everything has run pretty smoothly which I’m very grateful for and I even decided last year to get a skin for it, which I have a Blue Lightning one that really adds an extra good look to it.

Trying to find a new one here in ireland is really hard, gamestop selling a used one for €330. Madness. If and when the price of these do drop down to a really affordable price, it would definitely be worth picking up, this gen is one which I think you can go back to in 10 years time and not really struggle with the graphics, the ps3/Xbox 360 era, I find it a little difficult jumping back into

I have a pro that’s very loud. I’m so glad that I was able to get one, they are very quiet. It’s amazing when you compare it to the launch model or the pro, the pro sounds like a jet ready to take off and the slim barely makes a whisper. The one thing I noticed about this slim model is that HDR doesn’t look as good as the pro model but that's a very minor thing for me. Overall, this was a good buy for me.
The pro is a stronger console. Lol.
FYI, just clean that Pro out, and it becomes much quieter again. It's just dust buildup.
Get a ps5 u bum
The thermal paste between the heat sink and cpu has probably dried out if you had it for over 2 years. Best to replace the paste or put a thermal pad and never worry about PlayStation airlines.
