Good old Fiat. Structural paint and undersealed with pasta. Nothing has changed. In the early 80s I had a 1974 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe. It was one of the first cars to have a glued-in windscreen. One day I had to do an emergency stop. The car stopped okay but the screen kept going. I ran over it. The flange that the screen had been bonded to looked like a set of rotten teeth. I should have scrapped the car but I repaired it .... with oxy-acetylene welding in those days. It was such a nice driver. Best of luck!
Still probably worth getting hold of some body cuts from a non GT shell that's had an easier life to sort out that rot on the inner and upper rear arch tubs.
I've been looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint, thanks Neil ☺️ Glad our deliberate collective reverse psychology worked on you too: Comment section - "too far gone, scrap it" Neil - "well I'll show them!". You're welcome 😉
Serious amount of work going into this, good on you mate! I know it’s a long way off, but looking forward to seeing it back on the road and enjoying the videos!
Like u I used to use etch on bare metal but I found epoxy primer is better especially as it's a sealant and doesn't absorb moisture like normal primers which means your shell can be left
Reyt enjoyed that vid Nelly, keep at it pal, dont get disheartened, it was great to see that subframe all painted up, cant wait to see it finished and also the bugger will last forever when you've done!👍. You going back to the original yellow?.
Good luck Neil, I think patience is the number one thing, then money here. Does make you wonder how todays 🚗 with their thinner panels will look like after 30 years of use.
Certainly looks less terminal now it's all blasted...I've bought shares in gas and wire though 😉 It'll look really good once it's finished in Broom Yellow 😂
Thought they were supposed to be galvanised? I had a 1993 Cinquecento and the brochure made great pains to say how well rust proofed they were. Thought Puntos would have been the same🤔
You didn't listen to anybody because you've slid into labour of love territory a long time ago. Now that has been firmly established you can go and have some real fun. 🙂
I admire your persistence in wanting to save this Punto GT after all the problems. Very happy that you are saving it though.
thanks.
Glad your saving it Neil it'll look beautiful when it's restored brilliant video Neil 👍
Thanks 👍
You're a braver man than I, thats some serious commitment
sure is.

thanks for watching.
love it. getting me in the mood to fix my small holes in my floor on my 156👌.
Early fiats had that reputation for turning into rot boxes but nice to see you rescuing this punto.👍
most cars did in the 80-90s, merc had trouble into 2010s. thanks for watching
I love your dedication , but I do wonder if it’d be better to try and get a better shell .
It would of been but then it wouldnt of been the same car
My claim to fame....I saw you taking the pic outside the blasters and spoke to you about the project lol
Lol yes you did.
This is going to be an excellent project. You need a chassis rotisserie. I made a home made one for my Saab.
I'm enjoying doing it. Looks like I won't be needing one. As you will see in the next video I've raised it quite high
In 1997, there were a lot of Punto GT driving on the streets of Taiwan,
and now most of them have been crashed or scrapped
yeah boy racered up and never looked after
Good luck with this Neil, really enjoying the content.
Thanks for watching

Thanks a ton!
Thank you for the video! Enjoying the Punto restoration 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.

as ive still got all the welding to do i went with etch.
Fiat Punto ...... I never ever thought I'd see the day !!!
yep were that old.
Simply amazing commitment Neil! Never err in your total determination to succeed!
thankyou.
Glad that you save the punto but it’s a big project, when ready it’s going to look nice 😊
Huge project but I'm enjoying doing it so far.
Nice job my friend keep going 👍🇲🇰
Well done Neil, great to know your saving it and shall look forward to future updates on it..
Thanks 👍

You going back to the original yellow?.
staying its original orange
Nice update! It didnt looks massively worse after blasting which was a surprise for me 😁👍
Yeah I agree
Fantastic work can’t wait for the next install
Hopefully another episode next week but need to film a bit more so might skip a week
Good luck Neil, I think patience is the number one thing, then money here. Does make you wonder how todays 🚗 with their thinner panels will look like after 30 years of use.
oh yeah a good 12 months it will be finished
@4:43 I know, you do it because you love the car, not because it is financially viable. 🙂 It is a mass produced cheap city runabout.
Certainly looks less terminal now it's all blasted...I've bought shares in gas and wire though 😉 It'll look really good once it's finished in Broom Yellow 😂

i wish
The day affordable metal 3D printers make it around, is gonna be a blessed day for DIY, maybe next 10 - 20 years.
Yep if it was a Ford escort I could order every panel but a rare fiat you have no chance.
It's looking like a serious challenge Neil. How many of the panels can you still get new?
rear floor pans and outer sills and thats it
@@ItaliaAutos Holy cow, lots of fabrication work then!
These little lovelies are so rare you need to restore both of them lol. I can hear the brain exploding …
super rare
Good on you wish I had the skills to do something like this. 👍
Thanks 👍
neil at least you now have a clean canvas to start from
as clean as it can be
Yeah!!! 👍🏻💪🏻🤌🏻
:-)
good job.
Thank you! Cheers!
Not being funny , but your car looks something I’ve seen on the news in Ukraine …💣💣 hit it 👍
It's looking it's worst in this video. It will start to look better
@@ItaliaAutos you done anything this bad before?
Are you getting a donor car. for the body parts you need to replace. Or can you still get new panels ?
check out the yellow punto video
10:20
Can you please share what brand/product of rust inhibitor and primer did you use on that?
vactan im currently using. finding it very good.
@@ItaliaAutos thanks!
You didn't listen to anybody because you've slid into labour of love territory a long time ago. Now that has been firmly established you can go and have some real fun. 🙂
there is that too. lol
Hopefully you will be able to cut some parts from the donor car to repair some of those areas
already using it
Are you going to cut out the rust and inlet the new piece or just cover over the holes
cut all rust out and have a rust free shell.
2hats happening to the yellow gt??
Parts for this one.
@@ItaliaAutos fair play mate
Whoa… Did u ever consider getting another shell, a good Punto 55 or whatever?
ruled it out as it woudnt be a GT then just a 55 with gt running gear.
@@ItaliaAutos Ok was just thinking as the bodyshells are identical
Still waiting for mk1 multipla content 😂
Prob zero of those in 100 miles of me
@@ItaliaAutos just got one in holland. Took me 1.5 years to get one.
Same places and problems like in s Punto mk2a
This car is a mess Neil
Oh yes. All Apart of the challenge.
@@ItaliaAutos I’m looking forward to the rebuild
It was rusted and tattered
Why not find a good used car shell exchange?
Wouldn't be a challenge then.
