with a sharp deco you could kinda get around that, i would say the biggest thing about the funlance upgrade is its improved scaling cos that was always a lot harder to compensate for
I found it is the additional mobility with the shelling that absolutely changed gunlance for me, and I'm a gunlance main. Felt like I was olaying a new weapon entirely. Gotta relearn my secondary weapon Charge Blade, too 😄
Hammer really stood out for me. There has been a significant chunk of the moveset that just never felt optimal to use before, but now i feel like you can comfortably work in every move and truly utilize all bonks, the weapon feels deeper and more rewarding
Hunting horn is criminally underrated here. Wilds' hunting horn is *amazing.* The best the weapon has ever been by a mile. They have improved every single aspect of the weapon while also adding a bunch of cool new stuff too.
I agree. I especially liked the note shortcuts (e.g. superpound, echo bubble, Focus Strike) and the rhythm aspect to several of its moves. Edit: BTW, Wilds' Hunting Horn mains might want to close their eyes around 14:55.
Absolutely agree. I just feel the weapon became really complicated, with melodies, stores offsets, echo bubbles, performances and encores... its a lot when you first pick it up! But yeah, for me who mained it in World feels amazing
HBG main here. It feels strong and safer than ever with less downtime and more block options. They made the special bar usable, no more getting carted while trying to unload the spent special cartridge, they sped that up. The rapid fire built into normal shot and square reticle for spread give the basic ammos more flavor and differentiation. Infinite basic ammos so you don't have to juggle crafting mid fight for those is a great QOL improvement, as well as the recovery and demon ammo leaving a pool, making them more viable. LBG became alot more technical with it's new moveset and juggling special ammo, which I think has people who didn't learn the new mechanics underwhelmed. It's evasive capabilities can't really be fully appreciated against these easy monsters from the beta, but will really shine against harder and faster targets, especially those with followup attacks. All in all every weapon feels truly upgraded, S tiers across the board. Great job Capcom.
So long as dakka mode stays viable once we get skills on our gear. Id be sad to not be able to Rambo just because I have spread up skills that make it needless or whatever.
My only real issues with HBG(which was my main in world) is the lack of customization. I hope that its just a thing of the beta though and not that we can't do bowgun customization period anymore. That and the inability to craft more ammo and set up my radial wheel the way I liked it made it feel worse then it does in world.
@pizzamess I think the reasons you listed are in part why I like it this time around. Being the dedicated shield-gun rather than feeling like you lose damage for choosing it makes it feel less bad to want to use that. Not being able to just haul around the things to create and spam the strongest ammo type over and over means having to use a variety which I find more fun.
After playing IG for nearly a decade, I don't think I'll be playing it in Wilds. It's just not the same weapon I fell in love with. It's something else entirely. I'm already trying to learn different weapons like Bow and Long Sword after testing them out in the beta.
As an IG main previously - try mastering GS. It's like the oposite of IG, but man it is so satifying to master! Alternatively - CB. Yeah, it is quite difficult at first, but it feels amazing to play.
It's a classic result for the S&S on a popularity poll. It's always such a strong weapon, that is always overlooked and/or underrated. I'll always love how versatile it is, and now it's got such a powerful defensive tech in the perfect block, and even more unrelenting ways to keep offence going no matter what. S&S will always be my favourite. Perfect for beginners, and perfectly effective for veterans
I missed the poll, but my answer would have been charge blade and sword & shield. Charge blade is one of the main reasons I like monster hunter as much as I do in the first place, so that's not really a surprise to me. The only complaint I have is SAED's might not be worth doing anymore. I'd recommend they make them do a lot more damage specifically when you have double charged files. Sword & shield, on the other hand, was a surprise to me. Doull blades have always ben my second most used weapon, so I thought for sure they'd be my secondary, but s&s just feels so good. Primarily, the new stab attack and the insane amount of mobility when doing basic attacks that essentially let you dance around the monster are what did it for me. Idk how to explain it, but s&s has always to me, felt like a weapon where you're truly fighting tooth and nail, whatever it takes to succeed or survive, and those additions makes that feel so much more like the case.
I think Charge Blade is one we'll have to wait and see before we judge the SAED (or lack thereof); the meta and preferred playstyle COMPLETELY changed throughout both World and Rise, and has always been highly reliant on gear and other factors. But yes, it would be a shame if it turned out SAED wasn't worth using any longer, and it absolutely is a shame that SAED doesn't seem to benefit from the buffs that were given to pretty much every other part of the weapon. I don't necessarily mind the pizza cutter playstyle, but I'd prefer if both were competitive options, so I'm able to choose for myself which I want to use, rather than feeling like I'm being forced in either direction.
As an IG player I felt like they gave us more damage but took away the fun. I.e. the improvements that came with Wilds are either not that impactful or came with nerfs. Points I am making: - They made it easier to get essence, but you need all the buffs to unlock the full move set. - They gave us additional ways to get into the air, but they don't let us stay in the air. - They show what essence we can collect, but after gathering each buff once I know where they are anyways. And I don't know if it's just me but I had two other issues: - I think the new control scheme is a bit awkward on controller. - I felt like the Kinsect had a mind of its own at times. I know it's the starter bug but sometimes I felt like it didn't go where I sent it to.
I agree the controls were not comfortable, and some speedrunners even mentioned how they used a different controller (gyro or something), which made the controls easier. Personally I am a fan of aerial combat, and use that primarily in MH Rise, but for me it was because the ground combos just didn't feel that good. Now the ground combat looks and feels cool, but I do hope they do something with the controls.
The aiming seems to be a bit skewed, but it also seems to be an issue with the terrain itself, the slightest slant on the floor causes your aim to be off greatly to.
Nailed it, they just seem to have removed all the fun and made the controls a pain to deal with. I want to have fun and fight monsters and instead I'm fighting the controls and not enjoying my time. I dunno if they'll fix it, but as it is I won't be maining IG anymore.
@tokhe3690 you r correct. When u just threw it out, it went straight up at times. And the controller scheme for full optimization of the ig is kinda weird. If u re spec it tho, it's not bad.
Lance and S&S are so underrated, they were my fastest kills by far. Sure they were the simplest, but even when i got used to the others and used them effectively, they still paled in comparison to the speed of hunts and enjoyment i got out of my new faves. This coming from someone whose previous mains were greatsword and hammer.
This is my go-to. Gunlance for pure, reliable performance, greatsword for monsters that do a lot of chip damage and for the awesome new offset attacks.
I really enjoyed Great Sword now that focus mode allows us to aim it and I was using the Heavy Bowgun as a secondary. I think those 2 work well together.
The fact that both bowgun are at the bottom of the list is really mindblowing to me, i used LBG a lot in the beta (in fact it's the weapon i used the most with SnS) and despite having never really played it it easily became my favorite weapon and it made me replay World with it and god does it feel nice Ps: the new rapid fire gauge and the fact that when in it you can fire while dashing is really cool and the weapon has a really good damage output in the beta from my testing Ps 2: i started playing Monster Hunter with 4 ultimate so it's already been quite some time so just saying this in case: no i'm not a beginner player
Greatsword was the biggest surprise in my opinion. Focus mode was made for greatsword. It has a complete toolkit, and still hits quite hard. It was my favorite and I've never liked it before.
So here's my take on the insect glaive changes, I dont love that the aerial stuff got removed, especially since most weapons seem more mobile now, but thats not my main issue. My main issue is that they gutted and completely changed our ground combo, it's entirely different, that combined with the removal of the air play style means this weapon for the most part lost it's idenity, it might as well be an entirely new weapon at this point. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, but it is NOT glaive. Ontop of that, since it's so much slower now too, while it has higher dps, it has no defensive options, no counter, no evasion, so it feels like it's in a really weird place at the moment. I DOOOO Have a theory that there will be a charge type kinsect that has an offset attack on it though, as we know the "collect all 3 extracts" on charge attack is a skill that changes per kinsect so, we shall wait and see.
Having mained IG in rise as my first monster hunter game, I actually really like the changes they made. It feels similar enough that it seems like the same weapon but different enough that I won’t fall into old habits when using it, which I appreciate.
I do agree alot with your take, my main issues revolve around the ground combo and the requirement of all 3 extracts for what Gen 4/5 got from just red extract... it really does feel as a 15th weapon with the removal of a true IG. IG seems to change each Generation, but 5th although different from 4th, didnt feel this different. I just wonder why Capcom builds on the other 13 weapons, but fully changes IG... Doesn't make sense. I've also heard the rumour that the Aerial style was removed because alot of non-IGs were annoyed that some in World/Rise would helicopter the whole fight, if this is true, whilst it would be less DPS, i would question as to why a IG would be designed to please none-IG users?
@@Durp-E-Derp I agree with the red buff thing too, it was a very unnecessary nerf. And I think the reason they changed aerial Glaive was due to them not knowing how to have monsters deal with air spam. I think some people blow it out of proportion for “how free” it was, but I do agree it was a lot safer to be in the air, and having rise air hitboxes was… not a pleasant solution lol. But I don’t think the theory of “pleasing none Glaive users” is true that wouldn’t make any sense
@@sithstormd2703 I hear what you’re saying, but I do have to disagree. Every weapon still has most of their main combo paths and moves, the core of the weapon feels the same with slight tweaks. I’ve played Glaive since GU, and in world and rise it felt expanded upon like every other weapon, but here it got entirely reworked, in my opinion it only resembles what Glaive used to be, they didn’t expand its moveset and combos like they did for most other weapons, it feels like they nerfed a bunch of things, changed how the weapon fundamentally plays and then said “perfect”. Again, I DO enjoy this weapon, but this feels more like a “halberd” new weapon rather than Insect Glaive wilds edition, it just feels too different from what Glaive has always been.
I was a IG main in World:Iceborn. In Wilds I was going to go with another weapon anyway but still would have considered IG as secondary. But after the beta, not anymore. I’m going to go with Charge Blade as main and probably Long sword as secondary. I enjoyed Switch Axe too but the loop feels a bit to simple for me.
I'm one of the few people who loves the new insect glaive. Never really used aerial combat that much to begin with and the new charge attack is amazing. The best case scenario right now is if they introduce a new skill that would allow you to stay in the air
I think with a bug fix to the charged kinsect shot that gathers extracts(currently 90% of the time it shoots the kinsect straight up instead of straight) and with a faster kinsect, the ground based playstyle could be entertaining, though its just spamming the charge attack over and over but its flashy and cool so whatever. But i 100% agree. Hoping a customization option returns that brings the aerial bounce back. As for the faux QoL they added. They need to give us access to our whole moveset with just red extract. Forcing triple buff is terrible.
Sure, insect glaive's aerials weren't optimal, but some of us found it incredibly fun. Hence why we hate it now. The changes took all the fun out of glaive. Plus, it was the king of mounting in world. It requires more work now.
If i gotta exchange Arial dancing for more damage and easier extracts I'm game! Ntm popping the ultimate, coming down with all the extracts and going right back into the convo?! I'll take it!
As an Insect Glaive main, my take on the weapon is that it is a good weapon but not as fun anymore. People can't decide whether the aerial play was completely useless because it did little damage or overpowered because it made monsters hard to hit. Which is it? There were also so many quality-of-life nerfs along with the buffs for seemingly no reason that made the weapon uncomfortable to play. - Need all 3 extracts for the better move set instead of just red. - Removed earplugs from orange buff. - Descending thrust requires red buff now instead of just having it. - The control scheme has changed yet again for 3 games in a row, this time for the worse having charge moves that require either a claw playstyle or a controller with paddles if you want to use them with other moves. Insect Glaive aside from 4U has pretty much been a relatively mid to high mid-tier weapon, yet they went after it as if it was the best weapon in the game hands down, pairing good changes with bad ones to offset it.
Even just having it so popping a wound with a mount finisher would grant full buffs, I feel, would go a long way. IG specializes in mounts after all, why not incentivize and reward that. Having red give back the upgraded attack moveset would be nice to see, but if we're able to keep up full buffs more often, maybe it'll be not that much of an issue? Maybe??
For me MH is about fun. And I had a lot of fun with IG, because I imagined myself a dragoon from Final Fantasy. Finally being able to rival dragons in the skies with areal combat... But not anymore. Not anymore...
Even as a IG main, I really had to vote against it being the best weapon in Wilds. Even with the new gimmicks, the lack of fully customizable button mapping makes the weapon clunky and uncomfortable. It feels like they didn't just nerf the weapon, but the players that prefer it, too.
@@RicochetForce It is alot harder to pop wounds unless you play solo, i played the beta with my bro (LBG main) and outside the mounting, he'd pop wounds all the time without even trying, i'd imagine 2 more hunters would just be a nightmare for trying to claim any wounds at all, afterall it is a charge move. But yeah, pretty much OP of this thread says most of it, i also personally hate the ground combos compared to 4th/5th gen games. Was kind of hoping that it would be simular to 4th gen for ease of mounting at least, for the level of controvercial changes IG has had.... guess theres still time till release, but i doubr we will see anything resembling a previous game IG until 7th gen now, I doubt they'd do a weapon overhaul for the expansion, and the Generations/Rise equivalent game likely will try to hone the 6th Gen glaive rather than change it.
I'm actually happy two of my four mains are the least popular (Hunting Horn and Lance). I love knowing that there are far less people using a weapon I main. There's a emotion of being special when no one else is copying your play style. I won't lie 😅. I remember participating in hunts where there were multiple people using the same weapons. Though out of my thousand hours of MHW gameplay, I've only joined one hunt where a second person was using a Hunting Horn. Talk about being rare 😄
I think I'll be using a Great Sword with a Hammer, and a Bow with an Insect Glaive. I had a lot of fun with the Switch Axe, Long Sword, and Gun Lance, but the other 4 were just great. I know there'll be meta ways, bringing a bow gun as secondary for the buff, or taking 2 of the same weapon and 1 of them with statuses, or however the game playa out. For me, it's about fun and efficiency comes later using what I'm best with. The GS & Hammer felt so good to hit hard, clash, and offset. The IG & Bow felt so good to dodge, hit often, and just general movement. Edit: To choose just 2, then Great Sword and Bow
The SnS gets so overlooked.😢 Its crazy because everyone thinks its a beginner weapon. That weapon has such a high skill ceiling and no one knows cause they dont play it to actually learn just how hard and rewarding it is
I mean there’s no doubt it can put some work in , but like, a sword and shield is just imo, how do I say, basic I guess? 😂 it’s not bad but I think people prefer to use the more sophisticated/flashier weapon types
Yeah I started with rise and loved Insect Glaive. I basically spent like 80% of the game time in the air, like i completely igonred ground glaive and just always jumped around. I´m sure the Glaive in Wilds does good damage and the new philosophie of playing around with the three buffs more as a resource, that you can get them all at once and also spent them for a strong attack, is a really good Idea. But at the same time the main fantasy taht drew me to the weapons is kinda gone. I will give it a try in the full release, but i will probably switch to the other weapons i liked which were dual blades, Charge Blade and Hunting Horn, which look amazing in wilds.
I have a simular take to you, it feels like they removed the fun of Gen 5s IG in favour of damage, but it is also counterintuitive as if the weapon is no longer fun, alot will drop out and few of the other weapon users will likely pick it up... me i main IG (95% of Rise/Sunbreak, 80% of World/Iceborne and 100% of 4U/Gens), but i second S.Axe or Hammer, but i dont want to be forced away from what i love, and there are many who will only main IG, so idk how those will approach wilds.
@@RicochetForce I think the issue is they could have looked at a way to make the damage stronger while in the air rather than remove it. Something like bouncing off it with really strong attacks that were risky. It kind of defeats the purpose of its design removing it
The Wilds team does seem to get Bowgun. They made the slow weapon with a shield the long range weapon and gave the mobile weapon that historically been the long range rapid fire weapon a shorter range than bow and a slower rate of fire than HBG. That said, I ended up really liking HBG, but LBG feels like it was intentionally made to be the lesser ranged weapon.
To preface, I absolutely love most of the changes; however, I believe most weapons have at least one or two issues or things I wish they did. GS feels great but the meatiness of each attack just doesn't feel there like it was in world HH, to my knowledge, lost 1 or 2 moves like the spinning thing following a melody that I wish they kept IG doesn't have its signature aerial moves, like the dive and the flail thing and I just wish they kept it as is along with the new stuff LS feels great but fade slash feels obsolete now with the presence of the new spirit attacks and how readily available gauge is, wish it went farther or the animation was faster SnS is *good* though it didn't get much and perfect rush is so much weaker now GL is great, though it takes a long time to get into the wyrmstake combo, I wish they kept the burst fire wyrmstake for quicker monsters LBG feels so bland with the only new feeling thing is just "you shoot twice now" as your special ammo. With bow having rechargeable ammo, too, I feel disincentivized to play it HBG is feels a lot better compared to LBG and got pretty decent changes. Though, again, its "special" ammo is just rapid fire normal shots and it's so boring. Not only that, but again with bow having rechargeable ammo, I feel disincentivized to play this. (side note for both bow guns: I wish you could do more with the gauge, like with HBG you could choose to pick between machine gun and sniper etc. or for LBG, you can have your mine set statuses based on the ammo you "set" for it, as examples) Bow feels great, I don't have issues with the base kit but I do hope there are armor skills that allow you to increase the amount of phials loaded. Swaxe feels pretty good to use, I wish they got rid of the chip damage on sword mode counter, I wish both zero sum and regular elemental discharge did more maybe with a greater cost, it feels like there's much more investment for littler reword for the new move, which I absolutely love though DB feels pretty good but also pretty awkward to play. This is probably because I don't play DB enough but it felt off. I'm going to chalk this up to user error though. Hammer felt good, honestly didn't use it enough to make a sound judgement Chargeblade felt stellar with one issue: SAED felt like it did fuck all compared to savage axe, wish that double charged phials sent the damage through the roof since you're sacrificing it all for it.
The heavy bowgun is super fun once you realise that while having the machine gun attachment on. Your focus attack can then be charged into a delayed explosion like shooting 1 targeted sticky from wyvern snipe
My problem with it is that as an offset move it takes too long to get to to be able to react to the monster. You have to very preemptively be ready to do it
It's not just that insect glaive is a different weapon but an entirely different playstyle. It's now a build resource, do big move, build resource loop, which is decidedly different from the two common ways to play glaive historically. There's nothing inherently wrong with the playstyle, but many people liked that the glaive wasn't that kind of weapon. Now, it feels more like a one-trick pony that's fun at first but gets old really quickly.
I REGRET not learning the combos for Sword and Shield and spending more time with the weapon in the beta. If we get another chance to play before launch I’m going to give SnS a serious chance. Having said that I really enjoyed the Insect Glaive! I could see myself using IG as main if I don’t end up taking to SnS.
I’m maining SAxe and SNS I love the new SAxe and SnS changes being the weapons that can potentially do the most damage in the game. I beat Ray Dau in 14 minutes after figuring out the loop on the weapons, I was amazing.
Idk, I dont really liked the full release gameplay of the swaxe, I really like the axemode in world with the partbreaks, and zsd was always fun. But these moves just didn't feel worth it anymore
@@eprot6170That’s a you problem. They’re still powerful, you’re just a slut for damage. ZSD even has hyperarmor now and amped axe mode is still just as effective as before
Swd and axe mode became mere tools to generate amp meter for the full release, there is no reason to stay in swd anymore since the dmg is same as axe. They need to improve the motion value for swd mode imo.
I don't like the new focus CB has on savage axe mode, so I was going to use that as my Secondary, but now I'm thinking HBG probably, but it can pretty much be anything. If it turns out that with skills SAED can be as strong as the savage axe then I'll stick to CB since it was my old main. Main is going to be Gunlance, the weapon looks amazing now with the new changes. Alongside those mentioned in the video there are 2 huge changes to GL that make a ton of difference compared to previous games - MUCH less sharpness loss on shelling and shells scaling with Attack.
they made the spinny bug stick waaay cooler, and I already loved the thing, but my biggest gripe was that the weapon felt like 2, the kinsect and the glaive, but here the combo attacks you do with your bug are so bloody cool and satisfying to watch. I think it really completes the concept. A shame about not constantly being in the air, but I do feel like I have more to do with the weapon, and doing do much greater DPS with a bigger variety of attacks, so I definitely prefer it. I hope people come back to it when they realise its arguably way better, despite lacking one of its gimmicks. Oo, but I did try out the bow and might keep it as my secondary, once I learn it better.
They really need to bring back Insect Glaive's bounce. I really understand how hard it makes it to balance, but the class fantasy is just worth it. Also as a CB main I really don't like a lot of the chainsaw axe focus as it changes it away from this 'dual weapon' feeling to a more 'single chainsaw axe weapon with slightly better justified faster attacks for such a big weapon'. I think the changes to CB are probably for the best and have been made very gradually in a way I think is healthy even if it leaves me feeling a bit 'homeless' weapon wise.
As a lance main I’m excited to get more time with the new lance. My only real gripe with it was that the double thrust counter felt pretty inaccessible for how fun and rewarding it is to use. Also excited to find out in the full release if the double thrust counter requires guard up or not to land on unblockable attacks. Would be fun to have a built-in way to counter unblockables without having to waste a skill slot just like every other countering weapon can.
From a runner exp I can say it’s definitely one of the best combos in general. GS and Bow compensate each other very well. Especially bow known to be an elemental weapon while GS is mainly Raw based. Bad bow matchups means usually that weapons like GS are really good to use.
Light bowgun and Heavy Bowgun actually utilizing recovery, demon shot, recovery shot as playable mines that you or teammates can use is a huge buff. Just like any Monster Hunter when the full game releases the Light Bowgun will be top meta again.
As my main weapon the Greatsword felt insane to use,the Focus mode aiming for the TCS is incredible. The only thing I felt they need to work on is the feeling of impact on hits, but I believe that's true for all the weapons in the Beta.
I've been a charge blade / LBG main since the introduction of charge blade in the series, and Wilds has me really pumped for the fresh feeling these two weapons have. Plus i get to carry both ! 11/10
The issue with insect glaive (to me) is its incredibly uncomfortable control scheme on a controller with no back buttons. Having to hold B/O while also holding LT, pressing attack, and aiming all at once is so insane.
Seeing how this is a beta, I know more changes will come before release. First off, there was no real detriment if you didn't sharpen your weapon. I never bounced (Lance, Charge Blade, Long Sword were what I played with) and went below half during most fights. Yeah damage did dip but when hitting certain parts of Rae there should have been a bounce off. Fights being faster are more than likely because of the beta as well, giving us a taste of how the world will be. I'm willing to bet that the health pools were reduced and will be adjusted for the release.
I'll be running Gunlance and CB, definitevely my most favourite weapons. Before wilds it was GL and SwitchAxe, but the effects and combos on CB in wilds is just too good
I always get pissed off when these reviews say "you no longer have to manage coating for bow" you have not had to manage coatings for bow since GU! you would just flick the radial menu in the craft all direction once a hunt and you never had to reapply. now you have to manage coatings literally every 8 shots and reapply them from scratch every time! I would say the main problem with the bowguns now is they reversed their critical ranges. the made the fast nimble weapon play at point blank and the tanky slow weapon constantly need to back away.
The weapon gameplay definitely feels more rewarding. It feels like Decorations would only improve the experience as opposed to World where I personally felt like I NEED them in order to properly enjoy the weapon. Especially bow and it's stamina usage when compared between the two games. I actually rather really enjoyed the beta's example of early-game bow and felt that, while it could improve with better skills and gear, it was already REALLY enjoyable and I think that's largely in part due to the weapon changes they've made. So I'm definitely looking forward to how it goes mid to late-game
I loved the swaxe, just wish the sword counter was more like the sunbreak variant. Some possible buffs I would give are: make the counter attacks do more dmg, landing a successful counter gives a lot of amp/switch gauge energy, make it work like an offset, or remove the chip dmg. Any one of those would greatly improve the feel of that move.
Heavy Bowgun got great updates and feels awesome to play in wilds. The Offset being only available in Ignition Mode is kind of a bummer but other than that it has no downsides. Perfect guard especially is Nuts and Normal Ammo feels like it got boosted a fair bit making it an actually viable choice instead of just stickies and slicing
The only thing I didn't like about insect glaive is they put the dragoon dive behind a weird button press and im too old to be doing all this arthritis claw grip stuff.
Looking forward to play LANCE & Hunting Horn for the first time! in Iceborn i played LBG and in Sunbreak SNS & LBG - so pretty excited about the new weapon types!
I love Ls but I was vibin with CB too. Happy I’ll be able to bring both out on a hunt. Can’t wait till release. I’m hoping we get another beta before release.
If i have to limit myself to just 2 weapons i gotta go with bow and hammer, i just love both of the weapons and they both just feel so good to use in wilds
Gunlance is the most and best updated weapon I’m definitely now a Gunlance main and I think I’ll be using a heavy bowgun as my second for buffs and range when needed. Prior to this game I had always used lance because I felt like if I used any of the other weapons I’d loose out on being the tanky wall that I’ve always wanted to be and don’t get me wrong I still love the lance but being able to branch out because of the perfect guard on each weapon when that’s what I’ve always done with the lance anyway makes the game feel better. Just having more options is the best
I have been a bow main since 4U, which was my first Monster Hunter game. Honestly I live for how smooth the bow is now. Miss the beta already. Once you get constitution and evade extender it will be complete. Haha
Was really hoping for more from IG. The button layout issue was a huge turn off, I need an extra thumb just to play this. Hammer and HBG again for me. Maybe add in SnS
I played nearly every weapon during the Demo and at gamescom. > I can say: Greatsword get the award for "Don't fix what is not broken". It is still the GS you love. > Both lances get the "Why did we not get this sooner?" award. Lance for implementing the shield and giving it way more agressive sticking power with blocks, and Gunlance for the small step-attacks to reposition and attack-scaling on shells. In fact: The Roman Weapon (Gunlance) will be my new main with these small changes. It just feels right. > Bow get the "Most Fun with the new gimmik" award. Curved shots are just nice. > Both Bowguns get the award for "Best quality of life improvement" with the infinite ammo on core shots. Probably will be using these as secondary weapons. > Hammer is the best, its uga buga big and its oga buga strong if you main the oga hammer, you can't go boga wrong! (Jokes aside: Small improvements on the hammer. The focus strike 4 combo is neat, but the main improvement is the super armor on the big bang) > Dual Blades are also really nice. I tend to dislike the quicker weapons, so me giving it a "pretty nice" is a huge compliment. > The Longsword is the weapon I dislike the most. Not because it is bad, but because it just feels odd. The love-tap focus strike does not feel as statisfying as any other weapon. The regenerating spirit guage strike is a neat addition, LS mains eat your heart out, but I will be skipping that weapon. > Sword and shield. Ya boy is basic, but still good. It is just a nice all-rounder and the air-combos being baked into the focus strike, like the dual blades, just make sense. ... wait ... I think I see a long-boy aproaching and wTHa.ahadfha. IGNORE WHAT I PREVIOUSLY SAID! SWORD AND SHIELD IS THE ONLY WEAPON - Definatively not Jocat > Hunting horn is as allways a sight to behold in any hunt. But I must confess: I have not tried it. However I saw a few running around in the beta, and seeing an epic-sax-guy curvestomp our new railgun wyvern while putting up buff zones, KOing the monster left and right only to go into a focus-strike powered solo: Yes sir, I will be trying that weapon too. Gets the "Biggest Glowup award" > Insect glaive .... just not my cup of tea, have not tried it, can't really say anything about the ins and outs. > Charge blade. Ditto Marks. Overall: Every weapon I tried was a strict upgrade in terms of game-feel. The Lance brothers got some love, the range weapons got some heavy duty quality of life improvements. Overall: You really can't go wrong with any weapon you choose.
Although I wouldn't vote either of them as my favorite, Light and Heavy Bowguns were definitely the easiest weapons to take out Rey Dau with in the beta, especially Light Bowgun. I didn't test it, but apparently, the support ammo types can now be used on yourself. I will probably be using a Bowgun as a secondary weapon. I didn't see many people running them, but both Sword & Shield and Lance felt genuinely great to play. I hope they become more popular in the future.
Once the game comes out, people will see Lance is probably one of if not the best weapon now going into wilds. Its DPS is insane now. Can't wait for February
I find it interesting how shocked you are about Long Sword being lower than you thought, for me at least I am never picking a weapon because it is powerful but mainly because it feels fun (or even a challenge) and Long Sword can never seem to scratch that itch
HH is fucking sick, dude. I accidentally got into it by using it as a vector for buffing my GL's attack, but then I realized I could try it and it flowed so well for me, and I didn't even use much note storage. It just felt so natural to continuously wail on em, and unsheathed walking being so fast you could just run circles around the monster, AND for your troubles you got KOs alongside your attack buffs. I do wish that the damage the non-echo wave blasts of sound did were higher, because the echoes were doing like 30-40, the other songs including sonic waves were like...8. maybe 9. But that aside, I'm not sure if this weapon is MASSIVELY different but it definitely converted me. And I can't wait to get my hands on better song lists in the full game.
I didn’t get the chance to vote. Website said I didn’t have permission. Longsword is my main and I can wait to master all the moves. Definitely enjoyed it in the beta
Longsword and bow. How was my first weapon to use in the franchise during World base game. When rise came out I started falling out of love with bow and decided to use a melee weapon. Longsword was the very first one I forced myself to play with and fell in love with it and the game even more. Now bow is up there again with the updated volley which drops lingering bomb arrows that can be detonated with thousand dragons, dragon piercer, or the wound breaker move gives it more arrows due to these lingering bombs being targeted too like the wound and the dragon piercer follow up just explodes almost everything on its sight. I might switch the long sword for the gunlance just cause of the exploding sound effects are satisfying to hear.
Seeing GL near the top and LBG's at the bottom is pretty much the same result as Rise's demo. Not exactly how things turned out in terms of power level in the actual game, though. I actually felt the HBG was most-improved from the ones I used. No more ammo needed for base bullet types (huge QoL improvement), far easier to load special ammo (wyvern heart submachine gun, played very nicely), and all the systems seemed to fit well together. BG's by their nature will tend to play poorly in demos because their strength (moreso than any other weapon) comes from fine-tuning many different damage multipliers (rate of fire, reload speed, capacity, +damage ammo type, etc.), where it's used because it's the DPS king. That can't really happen with preset builds, hence the low rank.
My votes for the bit that I got to play are Hunting Horn and Greatsword. Hunting horn has been my go-to since GU. I love this weapon and Wilds has finally given me exactly what I wanted. Greatsword and Lance have been by side weapon depending on game and I’ll have to get used to the new lance before I can make an opinion on it. But Greatsword feels amazing
I think while hammer doesn’t feel like it got a huge damage boost, it flows better and, this is the biggest change, seems to have more KO power. The first two KOs happen ridiculously quickly and I was pretty consistently getting 4-5 KOs on Rey Dau and then squeezing in 6 in one or two hints. That feels like a lot to me, especially after not having a KO buffing skill on. But that’s good. Hammer feels like a KO specialist once again.
Objectively speaking the Gunlance is obviously the best weapon in solo play. Only weapon that has both S- tier defensive and offensive capabilities. Bow users take more melee damage from monsters so it doesn't qualify for best solo weapon. Gunlance can also front load it's damage with the wyvernfire charges, which is very useful when you are hunting alone and actually have to tank the monsters yourself. Combine all that with the fact that shelling ignores damage resistances and no longer costs sharpness, there is no contest. Gunlance is POG.
Definitely will disagree. Bow takes the win as the objectively best weapon for speed runs. Though if a player is not confident in their ability in their ability to not get hit, the the gunlance should be their weapon.
I didn't try every weapon in the beta, and most of what I did try was only for one or two hunts, because I couldn't put down Charge blade and Duel blades. I just can't get over how much fun Duel blades are in this game. CB is my favourite weapon now, but DB was the first weapon I played in monster hunter (world) and holy hell guys DB is eating *good* in 2025. *So good* that CB, my other weapon, that is arguably doing just as good if not better, stood out to me *less*. I never expected DB to get a glow up like this in wilds, but you should really try it people.
I liked Rise CB where we could easily choose axe/savage axe/SAED spam axe or SnS/SAED and were free to switch forms whenever. So far, (and this is likely a skill issue) having to hit the guard points to switch to axe mode is extremely limiting. But I only put maybe a few hours into it, so I will reserve judgement for when I have time to become proficient with the weapon in this form. Initial impression though, the guard point requirement is a serious hinderance to playing the weapon.
I'll probably be using a Hunting Horn/Gunlance combo the most for my Wilds playthrough, even though I'm a Charge Blade main and it was still my favorite weapon in the beta. I just need a short break from it after World and 4U. That said, this'll probably be the game where I'll REALLY be switching the weapons around, so I will also be using Switch Axe (my first - and back then, rather turbulent - love), Bow, Greatsword, and... well, Charge Blade.
It's so hard to pick just two weapons. I had a blast playing all of them in the beta! I really liked Bow with the new tracer arrows and the focus attack, but I mained Bow in World and Iceborne and want to try something new. For my initial play-through of Wilds, I'm thinking of playing Charge Blade and one of the two Bowguns so I have a ranged option.
i will always be a charge blade main (until the hunting whip becomes a thing lol) but i actually love the new insect glaive so i might be taking that with me but switch axe is a very high contender. always love the videos guys xoxo
My top was def Dual Blade, the dodge feels right for such a light/fast weapon, you should be able to dodge perfectly, same for Bow. As for my second weapon, I'm def gonna be giving the heavier weapons more of a chance now. So most likely CB/GS as my second weapon for solo hunts. As for the changes to LBG, there's a massive buff that people aren't realizing, you no longer have to farm for different LBGs during the raid events (a la Safi) to get the burst fire for that ammo type. I'm sure ammo types will be limited across the weapons, but having burst be a mode rather than a flat type is so good. Find a weapon with high ammo cap for that ammo type you want and burst fire to your heart's content.
I do believe they need to think about and work on the narrative flow of the CB a little more. It's close to where I think it's a really nice place to be, though it's nice enough as it is. What I mean is that while I think it's nice that you can't directly shortcut to SAED anymore, I think there needs to be more of a buildup and more of a reward - more of a reason to do it, really. Not just barriers, but rewards, you know? SAED style is really more of a Sword and Board-focused style. The narrative flow of this style is that you're mainly a Sword and Board user, gathering momentum with every attack, and then releasing it all in one go with SAED. Allowing you to Overcharge your phials locks SAED away and makes it less spammy in this style, but I don't think the additional damage makes up for the locks and the less frequent deployments. So I think it would make sense to add back that damage to the weapon in terms of phial explosions from charging the sword, as well as damage from Condensed Element Slash. That is, amp up the damage a bit more and put a bit more hitstop on Condensed Element Slash to sell it as a mini-resolution that takes place of the "missing" SAED, then put more damage on phial explosions while the sword is charged to make up for less damage from Overcharged phials (compared to just two discharges from two SAEDs).
While others weapons have upgrades that add new mechanics and add a new playstyle, Longsword basically feels the same as it has always been so I feel it might be the reason why many players might not have picke LS. Its feels basically the same unlike something like Charge blade, Gun Lance, Bow, DB where new mechanics add a new direction to the whole playstyle.
I only tried 3 weapons, hammer, SNS and GS, and i'm in love with Hammer ngl But since it was a beta and i have THE recommended specs, it didn't run to to well.
gunlance defo had massive changes that made it felt way better to use, especially for a normal shell style.. but idk if that poll result is becoz of those changes, or rurikhan sent his regards xd
Ya'll are sleeping on the light bowgun, just saying. It can finally fulfill its gimmick of contributing to the dps while also being capable of supporting its team with brust healing and defense and damage buffs. And it's really fun to do especially since the mines from world have come back, meaning you can help stamina break with more high burst damage. Also, the bar mode for LBG helps build statuses and wound damage more than the HBG's does as multiple types of ammo can be used in LBG's mode. Need more up close part damage? Pop mode and use spread ammo. Need some immediate and fast elemental damage? Use your elemental ammo and light em up! Need some breathing room and the monster is enraged? Pop bar and use Exhaust Ammo. The LBG has gotten the status/dps glow-up it so DESPERATELY needed, and it does both REALLY well now.
all the mode does is enable rapid fire essentially. Sure you can evade and shoot, but its inconsistent and not that different from evading after a rapid fire in previous games. All this gauge really does is reduce the uptime of rapid fire making it objectively worse both in usability and dps. Also you only get 1 mine now instead of 3 so that ability lost 66% of its damage. You have no offset attacks, no perfect guards, no perfect evade mechanics and no guard clashes. Lbg, longsword and insect glaive are the only weapons to only interact with focus strike mechanics to my knowledge. Longsword got a whole new combo and new methods to get to red, and insect glaive got a revamp of its grounded gameplay. Lbg pretty much only got worse with each change they made other than the ammo level thing.
Its going to be interesting to see what changes are made to the weapons and monsters come launch. Pretty sure EVERY weapon is over tuned and monsters are also pretty under tuned. Having sub 4 min hunts with pretty muh evey weapon on the starting hunt is a pretty good indicator of that. So we will see what changes happen
World was my first MH game and I tried great sword and got absolutely wrecked until I picked up dual blades. However I liked the dichotomy between the fastest attack and slowest when I understood the positioning and timing better. In wilds I'm gonna main dual blades and longsword because I've never played longsword outside the beta and it felt like middle ground between the two.
I know some people like it but I really hope there is more reason to use the blade in charge blade other than simply charging the weapon. The blade and shield is what makes this weapon technical like sure it’s dope opfor certain moments but doing an entire hunt in Savage X mode makes me feel like all of the changes to the weapon besides the lack of SAED are pointless. I should have to learn how to perfect guard more than once in a fight. Hopefully they either barf charged phial blade or add new skills that boost both options
Ya know, it's funny you say that you feel HBG got better updates than LBG when personally I feel differently. I really enjoyed the changes to LBG and as a result it'll be my default between the two where in prior games it was HBG. Now, I'll still end up playing both for sure, but something about LBG just felt super good and smooth to me when I played it in the beta.
You forgot the main improvement of Gunlance which is why it is up there. Shelling no longer consumes Sharpness.
Which is fuckin insane when u think about it. That was probably the main reason for sharpening the weapon. Lol
with a sharp deco you could kinda get around that, i would say the biggest thing about the funlance upgrade is its improved scaling cos that was always a lot harder to compensate for
@@jarreththomson4535 imagine the Frontier elemental shelling being reveal for Wild Gunlance
elemental explosions would be so cool
Personally I feel the encore was made worse, but everything else was certainly great.
HBG is always top 3 in every MH game lol.
@@M.L.official more about the feel and the fun than raw kill times. Hbg was top tier in kill times in world but boring xD
Bow and LS are probably the strongest weapons in Wilds from what I've seen. They're usually at the top anyway.
Points I am making:
- They made it easier to get essence, but you need all the buffs to unlock the full move set.
- They gave us additional ways to get into the air, but they don't let us stay in the air.
- They show what essence we can collect, but after gathering each buff once I know where they are anyways.
And I don't know if it's just me but I had two other issues:
- I think the new control scheme is a bit awkward on controller.
I think IG is net positive imo. Although I am not sure how long the fun will last, but speed run times are much better it seems.
Lance has always been the apex of all weaponry
I like that every time lance blocks you get a cheeky sheildbash after it’s funny 😂
@@ilikecookies230 just a little "get got"
A lot of weapons got a lot of love. ❤
I really liked the Greatsword/Gunlance playstyle.
My choice as well perfect combo.
Are you me?
The fact that both bowgun are at the bottom of the list is really mindblowing to me, i used LBG a lot in the beta (in fact it's the weapon i used the most with SnS) and despite having never really played it it easily became my favorite weapon and it made me replay World with it and god does it feel nice
Ps: the new rapid fire gauge and the fact that when in it you can fire while dashing is really cool and the weapon has a really good damage output in the beta from my testing
Ps 2: i started playing Monster Hunter with 4 ultimate so it's already been quite some time so just saying this in case: no i'm not a beginner player
Personally with weapon only skills I feel IG might get aerial type weapon jewel to bring it back
I was a IG main in World:Iceborn. In Wilds I was going to go with another weapon anyway but still would have considered IG as secondary. But after the beta, not anymore. I’m going to go with Charge Blade as main and probably Long sword as secondary. I enjoyed Switch Axe too but the loop feels a bit to simple for me.
Sns felt like Theseus fighting the minotaur, I loved it
I'm one of the few people who loves the new insect glaive.
As a glaive player i disagree. I find it more fun to kill shit faster
@M.L.official factz! Glad ppl agree. I want the pole arm, but I wanna kill it quickly lol.
@M.L.official Hence my I said, "Some of us"
@@Guildmaster_xero they may change it again so don't fret
The controls are my biggest issue with wilds IG, just feels wonky and hard to work with 😅 Still love it though
8:48 why did bro started sounding like dream
i'm surprised that insect glaive with its changes is above 15th place.
@@RicochetForce it's stronger, but just feels much worse to play compared to world.
@thatoneguy1741 there are like 4 weapons that are actually flashy in this game. All the other ones is literally skill expression.
@Durp-E-Derp Same here, I'll miss my aerial glaive, been my main since World
@@RicochetForce I think the issue is they could have looked at a way to make the damage stronger while in the air rather than remove it. Something like bouncing off it with really strong attacks that were risky. It kind of defeats the purpose of its design removing it
I refuse to believe gunlance was not in the top 3 🤨😤
C'mon, it was top 4, after years of either not being in top 10 or at the bottom of it.
Gunlance has been number 1 in my heart since Freedom Unite.
95.92% of people are very very wrong, Sword and Shield is INSANE in Wilds.
It's so mobile, it's so flexible, it makes so many wounds.. It's the best.
To preface, I absolutely love most of the changes; however, I believe most weapons have at least one or two issues or things I wish they did.
GS feels great but the meatiness of each attack just doesn't feel there like it was in world
HH, to my knowledge, lost 1 or 2 moves like the spinning thing following a melody that I wish they kept
IG doesn't have its signature aerial moves, like the dive and the flail thing and I just wish they kept it as is along with the new stuff
LS feels great but fade slash feels obsolete now with the presence of the new spirit attacks and how readily available gauge is, wish it went farther or the animation was faster
SnS is *good* though it didn't get much and perfect rush is so much weaker now
GL is great, though it takes a long time to get into the wyrmstake combo, I wish they kept the burst fire wyrmstake for quicker monsters
LBG feels so bland with the only new feeling thing is just "you shoot twice now" as your special ammo. With bow having rechargeable ammo, too, I feel disincentivized to play it
HBG is feels a lot better compared to LBG and got pretty decent changes. Though, again, its "special" ammo is just rapid fire normal shots and it's so boring. Not only that, but again with bow having rechargeable ammo, I feel disincentivized to play this.
(side note for both bow guns: I wish you could do more with the gauge, like with HBG you could choose to pick between machine gun and sniper etc. or for LBG, you can have your mine set statuses based on the ammo you "set" for it, as examples)
Bow feels great, I don't have issues with the base kit but I do hope there are armor skills that allow you to increase the amount of phials loaded.
Swaxe feels pretty good to use, I wish they got rid of the chip damage on sword mode counter, I wish both zero sum and regular elemental discharge did more maybe with a greater cost, it feels like there's much more investment for littler reword for the new move, which I absolutely love though
DB feels pretty good but also pretty awkward to play. This is probably because I don't play DB enough but it felt off. I'm going to chalk this up to user error though.
Hammer felt good, honestly didn't use it enough to make a sound judgement
Chargeblade felt stellar with one issue: SAED felt like it did fuck all compared to savage axe, wish that double charged phials sent the damage through the roof since you're sacrificing it all for it.
CHARGE BLADE MAINS UNITE 💪
Dual Blade/Bow combo hands down
I’m thinking dual blades/ heavy bowgun
That combo is so fun and can look amazing
Yeah, when i played Bow and Greatsword, it was just so fun for me
I didn’t see the poll, but I will say, I will definitely be playing CB and Bow come wilds, they were my favorite to play in the demo!
Well we all know deep down which is best.
It‘s Lance. I’m sorry. Oh yeah and don’t forget your second Lance since this is Wilds.
That too. And Greatsword
@@big_watson04Great Sword looks awesome in this game. It’s cool how much can be achieved with such simple changes.
Lance mains stand up 😭
@@G1eatShad0w yeah the fact you gan go from a focus strike to a full true charge is amazing, and timing offset attacks is pretty nuts too
@@zackrenner9628Stand up and keep standing on that very spot until victory is achieved. The Lance loop is so underrated.
they made the spinny bug stick waaay cooler, and I already loved the thing, but my biggest gripe was that the weapon felt like 2, the kinsect and the glaive, but here the combo attacks you do with your bug are so bloody cool and satisfying to watch.
Gunlance is feeling so freaking good. Looking forward to maining it this time around!
Great sword bow gun is going to be my combo weapons I’m still thinking of heavy or light I didn’t get to try light but I did try heavy
That was my combo too, mostly because just the idea of a greatsword and a gun together sounds so badass
From a runner exp I can say it’s definitely one of the best combos in general. GS and Bow compensate each other very well. Especially bow known to be an elemental weapon while GS is mainly Raw based. Bad bow matchups means usually that weapons like GS are really good to use.
I would love to see more speculation and theory videos while we wait as it keeps me busy and helps me pass the time
Light bowgun and Heavy Bowgun actually utilizing recovery, demon shot, recovery shot as playable mines that you or teammates can use is a huge buff.
IG & HBG been my mains forever Wilds won't change this.
I’m not surprised with the bow guns because they are so build dependent that when your limited to a basic build they can’t shine
I am normally a switch axe main but I was really surprised by how much I was liking the new hammer.
I'm definitely maining swax and Insect Glave, those were the most fun for me.
The focus strike 4 combo is neat, but the main improvement is the super armor on the big bang)
> Dual Blades are also really nice.
SWORD AND SHIELD IS THE ONLY WEAPON - Definatively not Jocat
> Hunting horn is as allways a sight to behold in any hunt. Gets the "Biggest Glowup award"
> Insect glaive .... just not my cup of tea, have not tried it, can't really say anything about the ins and outs.
> Charge blade. Ditto Marks.
Overall:
Every weapon I tried was a strict upgrade in terms of game-feel.
Definitely enjoyed it in the beta
what is your 2nd though?
I haven’t messed with may weapons, but I did try the switch axe in the beta. That was fun
That Savage Axe gameplay honestly looked way different than mine..
But Greatsword feels amazing
definitely maining HBG, that mounted combat and wound breaking is just so nice
I really liked the SNS during the beta, I'm looking forward to getting my hands back on it the most, which is weird because I've never been into sns
Gunlance being in the top 4 instead of the bottom 4 is pretty nuts, the redemption arc is finally here
I have no clue about best, but I absolutely love ls, cb, bow, horn, dual blades, and ig in that order, but they are all going to see a lot of play
I'll probably be playing Longsword/Bow in Wilds! I picked up both in World and they both feel amazing in Wilds!
I only tried 3 weapons, hammer, SNS and GS, and i'm in love with Hammer ngl
But since it was a beta and i have THE recommended specs, it didn't run to to well.
gunlance defo had massive changes that made it felt way better to use, especially for a normal shell style.. but idk if that poll result is becoz of those changes, or rurikhan sent his regards xd
As a Glaive main, I want an ability that at least give you one "bounce in the air" after hitting the monster, I miss the aerial control
Im maining lance and greatsword, I love the damage of the greatsword and the safety of lance
