Take note of the following provinces : Batanes (the Scotland of the Philippines), Bukidnon, Romblon, Siquior, Camiguin, Negros, Pangasinan, Camarines Sur to name a few. My husband is retired military (Air force) we were stationed in Okinawa and he had to go to the Philippines to work with their air force. The kids and I were allowed to go along and stay at Clark air force base while he was there. We were definitely considering retiring to the Philippines but ... After witnessing the abject poverty of the average Philippino, The conditions of their homes etc. We realized that we would never be comfortable in our relative luxury while witnessing the conditions of the majority of the natives. Yes, the tourist areas are beautiful but that is not where the majority of the people live. The cities are rife with starving begging adults and children. The water around the cities are badly polluted. We decided that it was just not for us. Kinda disappointing because we both loved scuba diving in tropical seas.

    By the way, since the P.I. is so small, and to prevent a takeover by larger countries, like China, foreigners are not allowed to own/buy property. UNLESS, you go joint with a local, as I did with my wife (Filipina). The basic rule is that the Filipino must own the larger majority, such as they own 51%, and you can own 49%, which, by local law, the Filipino is the owner. This is true of owning a business here as well. They simply cannot afford to give up land to foreign owners, as soon they will have no land left!
    Also, I live (A Texan/retired U.S. military) in Or. Mindoro, so have been to Puerta Galera many times, which is only a 1 1/2 hr drive from my house. I've also been to Baguio City a few times. Huge strawberries there, due to the colder climate (altitude). It's quite a bit colder there. Nice place to visit.

      Thank you for this information.
      Do you know if a business or non profit can purchase property there?

    • @dwanemarsh4378
      @dwanemarsh4378 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TripTipsPodcast To be a bit more specific, a foreigner can own a building, or a condo, but cant own the land fully that it sits on. I thin they may have even raised the percentage to 60% owned by a local. But, it depends on different rules/laws. To be honest, they had to do this law, due to too many Chinese/Koreans, and others, trying to buy up land. Same with a house, which you can own, but not the land it sits on. Another option is that you can "lease" land. You can lease for up to 50 yrs, but can't buy it outright. NGO's, or non-profits, have their own set of rules. It's hard to say outright, as it all depends on the type of organization, taxes, and other stuff.
