Still the single greatest moment in Star Trek history. When La’forge brought. Out the Big D and Picard in the chair saying Engage! I’m 39 and I turned into a little kid again!

It was pretty mind bending when looking at memory alpha's page for Ent-D and seeing 'Active Service' in the entry.
Some men fix old cars in their middle years. Gordi.... he rebuilt a Starship. *His* starship.

Very well done! It really bothered my that even though this was technically an upgraded Shangri-La class they were calling it a Constitution. Your explanation has satisfied my head canon finally. :)

It's funny that: it's actually more of a Neo Shangri-La... it's supposedly a "refit" of a Luna class that looks nothing like a Luna at all... and is markedly inferior to other 25th century Federation ships, if we're going by the statement that its internals are all outdated. Nice looking design, but also a very bizarre gumbo of ideas and references.

The Ent-G is the right shape, the right class, the right mission and, the right captain. However I still feel that the Enterprise namesake deserved a newly built ship complete with bits of her predecessors as is customary of continuing a ships lineage, while allowing the Titan to continue it's own lineage. Never mind the superstitions that go along with rechristening a ship. So in short the Enterprise should have gotten the next unnamed Neo-Constitution hull to be completed, while Titan-A deservedly gotten to continue to exist.

I like the design of the Neo Constitution class. It is a good look back at the Constitution refit. I also like how new technologies such multiphasic/multiregenerative shielding and multifrequency phaser arrays combine with older technologies like dual phaser banks and armour plating are blended together.
On a more personal note I am glad that your health issues are better resolved and it is good to have you making videos again.

😭😭😭 That was beautiful. Bravo my friend. Take a bow. That video from introducing the new 25th Century Neo Constitution 3 Class with all kinds of fun teck, my favorite are the metaphasic shielding and regenerative Hull plating. Armanents like weapons are already added just because it's a Star Ship like any other in the Sol System. But not just any old Star Ship, it's the new Enterprise G 1701 Ship and you ending it with my favorite character from Voyager, and to say this is a pleasure. Captain 7. This year's season 3 of Picard was the best. 1 was like an introduction. 2 an adventure. But to find out 3 was the last, it was graciously played by all the characters till the end with the card playing and the heading of episode 10 was a great title. From seeing the original cast of TNG actually on the Enterprise D and how newly restored it was, it never had a chance for that spikey Borg cube. But this was my h entertaining. Thank you. I think I have a new eagle moss ship to look up. Tx. God bless, stay safe and as always, I'll be always looking forward to seeing more of your great wisdom 🙏🙏🙏

Great story and narration. I’m not quite sold on the design of this ship and feel like slapping the Enterprise name on the hull was cheap. I’d personally like to have seen more of the F or a new, 25th century inspired G rather than the retro look of the Titan A.

  • @scifiguy810
    @scifiguy810 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Your narrative for the story was excellent. To me it seems that Starfleet would bring back this hull profit because there were some advantages in Warp Field geometry that it offered with the new nacelles. Even though the design is baffling to me (Especially with the large # of impulse engines), you really did it justice with the explanation. Would love to see you do the Intrepid -- that is an amazing update of a design to starfleet's contemporary linage.

the decision to rechristen the Titan A into the Enterprise G at the end of Picard season 3 was a controversial one amongst the fanbase considering that the Titan A wasn't the biggest and most powerful class of ship available at the time, which is usually what was picked for the Enterprise since the decommissioning of the Enterprise A. however, I would argue that after everything that the ship & crew of the Titan A went through over the course of Picard season 3, they have bloody well earned that rechristening into the Enterprise G.
besides, ships like the Defiant or the Voyager have proven time and again that you don't need to be the biggest or most powerful ship in Starfleet to be considered a powerhouse... you just need to perform well and have a highly skilled crew. the Titan A/Enterprise G has both of these things.

After a quick tease of the 1701-F and the cold blooded murder of Shelby. Fans was extremely insulted at the cliche’ of the Titan-A and with the ship already established a identity and homage to the Beta Cannon(novel). They just plaster Enterprise over a ship that we all know as the Titan. It would have been logical if a newly erected Neo-Constitution is introduced.

....Honestly, I don't like most of it, especially the shape of the secondary hull. Its 'Too Smooth' and reminds me of a pinewood derby race car...'Too Smooth'...but, hey that's just IMHO.
....Aside from the secondary hull, the Biggest things about it is:
No carpeting...the floors look Slick and not in The Good Way...like unless you have some good threads on the bottom of your boots/shoes...you're going to keep sliding and falling all throughout the ship.
....Then...there's The Lighting. In the Titan-A, the 'new' Star Gazer and Rios' freighter'.
Yeah, its probably Kurtzman, who likes to frak up everything Star Trek...like the uniforms...freakin' DARK...you don't look like 'the good guys'...the uniforms look like they need washing with some bleach.
....The lighting, the slick floors and the uniforms are...Not Good...again...IMHO.
    BUT...script wise....The Worse thing was re-naming the Titan-A...the Enterprise-G.
....Yeah...I understand why Terry did that. A neat idea, Terry...However...
Every Enterprise since the NX-01..have always been The Best, The Newest, The Largest of what Star Fleet had.
....I am complaining because YOU asked us to do so.
............Not Everything in the Trek Universe is Perfect...and I always laugh when the fans try to make sense of something the studio designers did...like the turbo-lift on Kirk's Enterprise..and suddenly We have 'The Reason' that was like that...( I would have NOT put it on the model. I would say that 'The Turbo Lift is in that tear drop structure." BOOM! Problem Solved.
....For the History of the Design..when it was really...a Designer thing..they did it because 'It looked Good' or something like that.
......"Hey, let's do this to this class of Enterprise, it will look really cool !"
But it screws around with the blue prints to be made later and scripts to be written later.
....Thanks for letting me get that off my chest in a place that maybe others might Agree.
I'm a first Generation Trekker/Trekkie...I am sensitive about The Enterprise, which ever one it might be....and yeah...while beautiful...that dorsal/neck was a liability militarily.
    BUT it did look Good.

The CANON story of it (not knocking your own work though) is.....ridiculous ? a hundred year old hull with the internals of Rikers titan shoved into ? would have been fine in a Lost Era show following some unknown at the time crew. renaming the Titan to the Enterprise also robbed the Titan of a chance to build a legacy by just assigning it the Enterprise designation. also that 'too much damage, needs to be decomissioned' excuse was the same one they used for the Enterprise-F....a ship we never get to see in action as a hero ship.

Meh. Okay, I mean it's neat, and all but I'm just kind of tired of all the backward looking nostalgia-driven choices being made. Want retro style Enterprise? Watch Strange New Worlds. I think the Enterprise-F being written off was an unforced wasted opportunity. It looked really cool and was more modern looking. It's 150 years after TOS, it should look like it. Enterprise-D made it seem like 100 yars had passed (at the time). Enterprise -G ironically makes it look what the Enterprise-B could have looked like LOL. Plus, renaming the Titan-A to Enterprise-G was totally lame and disrespectful to both the Titan and Enterprise names. Why not just let the Enterprise-G be a newly built Neo-Constitution class ship?

I am so mixed on this ship. Im not a fan of skme of jts design choices. Loke the rear section kf the saucer around the impulse engines and the hill arojnd the flrward secondary hull. It just makes the ship look awkward and bloated to me. Also i think in season 3 they didnt need to rename the Titan tk the Enterprise. I think it wpuld have beeb more fun to keep it the titan and either keave the next enterpeise a mystery (maybe see a general fame in construction in space dock) or fully refit the D.

I have to say my only real question about this ship is why does it look like an intrepid class from enterprise

Did Argyle bombard Starfleet with a massive letter-writing campaign to get his project off the ground?

I wasn’t 100% convinced with this redesign. The saucer stylistically doesn’t match the lower half when you look at it from the forward side. Seemed a bit visually forced. I think the lower half could have kept the silhouette of the ship it has now but design with less windows, less lines and an overall smoother/sleeker look to get that 23rd century connection.

I still don't understand the mix of phaser banks and strips. Has anyone heard a logical reason for that besides rule of cool?

I think this was more of an artistic feature than a tactical/logistical addition. I've done designs before that had three or more weapons systems. The tactical reasoning I used was from what I saw in the shows, it took time to retarget, re-tune, modify, remodulate, refocus, reroute, repair, and refurbish the long colomnated phaser banks. Even the Defiant had awkward moments where the phaser array had to be readjusted for purposes other than hit hard, hit ahead, and hit fast. The short segments of what are usually on the smaller hulls of the Nova, Norway, Intrepid, the aft arrays on larger hulls, all are rarely used. Why this is is undoubtedly related to the cost of animating the weapons, except for shots that are reused or sequences for the movies, where a larger budget was available. The notable standout was Nemesis, where Enterprise initially fires from "all banks" to find the cloaked Scimitar. We could have gotten a look at her firing all of her phasers "in a concentrated pattern." We didn't, so here we are, where the standard visual is where a long forward dorsal array winds up from opposite ends to converge into what may be a double-yield beam. Neat, well neat until the long series of banks takes physical damage along the emitter column or either power conduit from one end is severed. Here is what a dual beam turret can do. It can be set to deliver proximity blasts when the ship is alerted to possible cloaked ships in the area. The proximity blasts were at least partially effective against cloaked ships and add an usual depth charge vs. sneaky stealth ship feel. Somewhat like a boxer with a vague idea where their opponent is because an eye is swollen shut and they really don't want to get hurt again. The dual emitters can be quickly upgraded, replaced, repaired, refit, and reintegrated and continue to supplement the standard phaser columns. Each dual turret also has its own power conduit the branches inwardly toward a central distribution hub, deeper within the hull leading to either a fusion reactor assembly, or the main (warp) reactor. Why do most of the later designs eschew these turrets? Turrets have moving parts, this means more wear and tear, more maintenance. They require more power lines, which means even more maintenance, longer manufacturing times, and more resources. How about turreted pulse cannon? Well! Same advantages/disadvantages. Fixed cannons like the Defiant are only partially exposed, and can still probably be armored. More often than not, the standard volley from a Defiant will get the job done in a tight enough pattern to frag most targets. What about big, armored artillery, more is more, right? It goes against the diplomatic, word and ideas before weapons narrative of the shows. This isn't stare wars. That said, the large flagship cruisers and warships can mount centerline superfire turreted cannons because they don't have the agility of lighter designs. When the maneuver, it takes significant energy to change direction and puts strain on the structure to do so quickly. In those cases it may be better to mount two or four or eight (lol) heavy turrets in addition to heavy forward fixed mounts.
      Just a thought, anyway.

Great ship design but I wish they had handled the backstory for it better in the show. With it being a refit, but not a traditional refit, and a take on the Constitution but also really just an upgraded Shangri-la, and how much of it was actually from the Titan anyway? They had to come out and explain so much of it outside the show to try to make any sense of it when they should have known from the get go that THERE WOULD BE QUESTIONS from this fan base.

The Constitution 3 is my most favorite next to the Sovereign. When I first saw it I was meh on it but now I love it. My only take away is the Titans legacy getting tossed to the side 👎

When Sisko renamed the USS São Paulo in DS9 to the Defiant I felt a chill down my spine. You don't do that. It's bad luck (unless you perform the proper ritual to appease Poseidon.. which I doubt Starfleet did). Then they go and rename the Titan to the Enterprise and a recognizable chill crept in.
First you do a disservice to Brazil, then you tempt fate with a race of pre-Olympian Gods? Oh boy. Good luck on that. 😆

Decommissioning the Enterprise F after she’s barely broken in is absurd. They really couldn’t have fixed whatever contrived issues she had huh? Starfleet was running Mirandas and Excelsiors forever, but their newer classes are basically disposable trash like modern day printers and cellphones.
