I know right? If people could miss the point of Halo THIS badly, I shudder to imagine how they'll butcher Gears of War. Yes. They're making a Gears of War film and TV show. _Take Cover._
The core problem with the show is that both in the game and in the books John was an extremely obvious stoic, partly due to his augmentations making him similar to a eunuch, guy rarely spoke unless necessary regardless of armor being on or off. I get that they want to use the "alternate universe" concept to justify major differences but then it's no longer Halo anyway, it's a Halo skin wrapped around a concept that is fundamentally different.
They should have never ever took his helmet off. It would have been so much better and they could just hire some cosplayer, like darth vadar was done, and then it would be so much cheaper without a main actor and probably way less takes necessary. Just do it like all the cutscenes and make him alone with cortana for most of it, with some mysteries and shit. Barely any dialogue, barely any actors and it would have been a thousand times better. They not only ruined the franchise, they spent way more money than they even needed to.

It is 100% Pablo Schreiber's fault that we don't see the suit as often. At least the helmet as in multiple interviews, he has said something along the lines of "you can't tell what my emotions are when I'm wearing the helmet". He might as well just say I'm not a good enough actor to pull off this role. He was clearly miscast for it if that's his excuse.
The shitty writing isn't doing him any favors either though. It's not as if the other actors are any better. He's great as Mad Sweeney in _American Gods_ imho.
I don't know about anyone else, but every time I see his face, I just see Pornstache. So, he would probably be more convincing as Master Chief with the helmet on.
The whole 'I can't act without my fACe' is clearly bs. Out of the six movement components of acting taught in high school, only two actually require the use of your face and that is also ignoring the twelve vocal components also taught at that level. He is effectively saying 'I can't act with more complexity than a high-schooler'
Interviews are PR press from the studio, paramount's show runners spoon feed people like him talking points. He is just saying what they want him to, hence the helmet dialog being an attempt to be in front of the very predictable criticism they were going to receive.
It's like this show was written by someone who watched 20 minutes of a playthrough of combat evolved, said I'd like to explore the stories of those 3 random marines, and decided to fill in the story of master Chief on the fly.
Given how standard Master Chief's armor is, and how common the name John is, I just choose to believe that he's another random Spartan in the UNSC. Only problem would be the mentions of "117" and "Chief/Master Chief" in the show, but at least he's referred to as simply "John" pretty often in it as well.
@@BenYang-xo7cg It’s not THAT serious, guys. Just ignore it for the mediocre out-of-touch Hollywood adaptation that it is and don’t let it “tarnish” your view of the source material.
From what i understand, pedro is no longer in that category. He hasnt actually been the body actor for mando since season 2, as itd cost to much. So hes just a va at this point and they have a body double. Only time pedro is on set is when you see his face.
I feel like these writers would do a better job making a post war series about Spartans in retirement lamenting over when they wore armour and having to deal with newfound emotions after they're given a chance to integrate into society.
Imagine a family drama show, prequel ot Harry Potter, where it's nothing but small hints of Harry's abilities and the rest is just every-day life of the Dursleys. That's how this show feels.
At least in the first couple of Halo books, there's no mention of Spartans not getting funerals, well, not directly. They do state that officially Spartans never die, even if their death is 100% confirmed, they are listed as missing in action, for propaganda reasons. So I'd imagine they would either get a very private funeral, or a quiet disposal without any ceremony, but beyond the official listing, nothing is mentioned.
@@Norbert_Sattler yea, it's after the augmentations are done and most of the spartans die. It wasn't a burial though, they were on a medical space station so they put them in coffins and launched them into space
@Norbert_Sattler and this was before the covenant war so I'd imagine they changed that to MIA and when they did do the "burial" only military members and the remaining spartans were there no civilians you can see it in the halo fall of reach animated movie
The number of changes made between seasons is baffling. Chief un-dies, Kwan Ha's story is deleted along with Madrigal, Makee un-dies, Cortana's entire purpose changes... When the show was greenlit, they were given 20 episodes that they split into 2 10-episode seasons. (which they later condensed further for budget reasons) My point is that they knew that there would be a season 2, so it's not like they were surprised with a sudden renewal. So why on Earth did they write the show so inconsistently?!
For me it's pretty obvious that they aknowledged the critique by fans and kinda, sorta tried to rewrite the 2nd season "better" and more lore-friendly than the first to please said fans. But they failed and the show is so fundamentaly bad that it's practically unsalvageble.
No show runner who understands and loves the IP with a clear vision of where and what it should be, this the major problem, also kiki wolfkill is the woman that supervised halo tv show and nightfall and usually transmedia products, and you can clearly understand by the interviews she also doesn't understand halo
Tbf, 343 knew they were making a new trilogy and couldn't make a consistent, coherent story carried through all 3 games either. It's not really surprising to me that the show did the same.
Ackerson is actually from the game universe. He’s Halsey’s rival, and the creator of the Spartan-III program. Spartan-IIIs are basically cheaper and more expendable than IIs.
I just listened to Ghost's of Onyx (Creation of the spartan III program) on audible. That was a banger of a story that easily deserved an adaptation, and Master Chief is barely even in it!
Except in the show, Spartan-3s are literally normal people who were trained for a few weeks then expected to perform on the level of the Spartan-2s and were also introduced literally the moment they were relevant with 0 foreshadowing
I don’t know how they had master chief with his helmet off for this entire show when the Mandalorian exists. Just copy that but halo. Like that’s it. One or two face reveals. They had the blueprints and still fucked it up lol.
To be honest, the Covenant are the most compelling part of the Halo Universe. Also, that guy dying with the needle, and I can conclusively say, if somebody stabbed a grenade into my chest, I would likely stand there, scream for a few seconds until it detonates, and then fly back into a wall, game over.
So the whole 'we don't bury Spartans' is an absolute misunderstanding of 'Spartans never die'. The UNSC believed reporting Spartan KIAs would hurt the morale of the Navy, so they only ever reported them as Missing In Action. Which is incredibly tragic. It's repeated in the books a couple of times with one line literally being, "Spartans never die, they just go Missing in Action". This led to Cheif holding in a lot of his feelings regarding the death of his fellow Spartans. The show is just taking a cool line and making it stupid.
A lot of shits buried by the Navy it's horrid the Legends short about a women meeting her clone replacement an debating shooting them dead is something Navy really wants to hide
Only good thing I can say is: Arbiter is just a title. That Arbiter was definitely not the one from the game (unless theres some real evidence) so we may get a real arbiter if theres any future seasons
He has a different name, so it shouldn't be the same. Also the one from the games became Arbiter after the first ring was destroyed, which could take 4 more seasons.
Mando is iconic, and we all love the actor(s) involved in playing him regardless of who's face we see. It's a fantastic performance. This is just wank.
Eric Nylund wrote the most amazing books for Halo, and instead Paramount thought this would be a good way to go about it. Still extremely displeased to see Master Chiefs face at the end of the very first episode. Didn't even make us wait.
As someone who's passionately reading through the books for the first time and having finished the kilo 5 trilogy this show feels like heresy of the highest order
It has nothing to do with hate watchers not even a bit. People MASSIVELY over estimate the amount of people who do that and even if they do they aren't watching more than 1 MAYBE 2 episodes max. The reality is the vast majority of shows good or not are greenlit for 2 seasons long before they ever release maybe even before they start production. They just wait to announce a second season until after to drum up attention and (hopefully) more watches.
This show genuinely feels the most like the people making it have only seen the box arts of halo and that’s it, cuz not only are they rushing shit, but they’re also dragging ass so much they introduced the arbiter BEFORE chief has ever been to a halo, it’s so dumb, I hate it
Arbiter is a title, not a singular character. The Arbiter here is completely different than the one in Halo 2, which is completely different from the Arbiter from Halo Wars, who is not only introduced timeline wise before Halo 2 but who also gets his ass killed at the end of Halo Wars.
At least this Arbiter isn't Thel, they called him some other name I haven't bothered to remember because you can replace him with a cardboard cutout and not miss much.
I love how hollywood wastes so much money on movies and shows that no one likes and that no one even watches. Why do they allow writers with no talent to helm any franchise when they only start terrible, disrespect the fans and the ip and run it into the ground?! It's so frustrating that everything made these days are so fucking terrible. This is why I'm not excited for anything new and I don't watch any new movies.
This is the only reason I have *one* show I'm excited about this year, or for the foreseeable future: Arcane. The amount of love and care for the characters and lore in that show is mind boggling. And they still did the same thing these Halo hack writers are claiming. They adapted the base canon for two reasons - Tell a unique story, and adapt the lore to better fit within the constraints of a TV show. I wish we had more Arcanes.
It's apparently because the culture at 343 was (and largely still is) aggressively anti-Bungie, doing anything to distance themselves from the original games. Numerous sources state that they refused to take on any previous bungie staff for Halo 4 and 5, the culture encouraged needlessly hostile attitudes towards the previous games and developers, and they obviously thought they knew better than Bungie prior the overwhelmingly poor reception to Halo 5. So much so that they needed to literally hire an ex-Bungie lead help make Infinite when they realised they were circling the drain. This project was greenlit back in the days before they thought they'd fuck Halo up, hit serious problems because of their arrogance which meant millions had to be spent in reshoots over years and years, and now we're seeing "Star Wars sequel trilogy" style back-peddling on their original vision with very mixed results.
40:33 didn't they literally replace Kat's entire arm with a mechanical one connected directly into her body? I don't know that kinda feels like a stupid condition in the 2550's no way they can't fix her
Yep. So not only first I ingame female spartan but also first with a prosthetic limb. Granted she was the sharpshooter, quite possibly do to the prosthetic.
Love how u don't mention the fact that chief and all the Spartans are like 8 feet tall super humans in the games but in the short they just normal people
Make it a series with that level of CGI and that attentive to lore, or don't make it. If it's not financially viable to do that way.. DON'T make it. Worst thing you can do is take a generic sci-fi show with 'meh' level FX and slap a Halo paint job on it.
it's jsut so mind blowing to me that they thought " lets make a show involving a character who notoriously doesnt reveal his face..... and make him just visbile...the entire time.... this game where the main plot is a bad ass dude in near indestructable armor fights people. lets just get rid of the armor.
@@davefromhungary6908 Yeah...at the time of its fall, all of Reach, the most important planet besides Earth, was exclusively Hungarian. And all of its peole talked Hungarian, a language way more easier to learn and common than English...
Tbf I’d let them off for that, Hungarian is one of the worlds least understood languages, having everyone learn and speak Hungarian would be insane for a largely American/British audience.
It would've been cool if they had the Spartans fighting out of their armor for one scene, kicking ass but still being in danger, and then their armor gets OTSD dropped to them, they suit up, and really start ripping and tearing. That would've been fun.
Similar format to Asian action series Having characters handicapped thrn they reach spot to switch something up then go rabid ape mode even if it does not make them outright win it shows off they tried "This shaking isn't becuse am scared this the growl of raoring beast" *yeets at mock 3 speed at a person they can't beat*
Imagine if they incorporated the "Double kill" "Triple Kill" "Over Kill" "FRENZY!" into the lore: Whenever Masster Chief gets into a battle, she acts like a drunk frat boy and uses a voice changer to say "Killing Spree" etc in Master Chiefs head. I would actually watch the show then.. not really, but I'd watch that specific clip on TH-cam.
That's sounds like ot would be is Legends second season since they already made a short about Chief falling out of the ship multiple times an ends up punching the shit out of a Covenant
Bro what Cortana met Chief _on Reach_ right before the Covenant glassed Reach Yeah, let's just retcon the Halo 9/11 equivalent (and how Spartans work) in order to tell a story that nobody likes.
In the game they didnt even meet on reach. We only saw Chief in cryo and Cortana was a delivery package from Noble Six to the Pillar of Autumn. Chief only woke up in CE already close to the first ring.
@@PhantomMiria22 yeah Bungie themselves broke a lot of lore with the game, wish they followed the books they were much more epic, also chief trained on Reach alongside Cortana before all of this
They should have had them walk through, everything is normal and they plant the spike. Then they come back outside and everything has flood tentacles on it and they could have had a 5 minute one take of them running back just blasting flood infected people left and right. They make it back to the ship but an infected flood pulls one of them back out.
Perez, a marine, magically becomes a Spartan III.. the Spartans who were orphan children chosen specifically for being orphaned by the war. Though to kinda give the show credit they did depict the Spartan III's as they originally were. If you only played Reach here's some history on the III's: the Spartan III's were originally introduced as suicide soldiers who would attack in large numbers. They didn't even have mjolnir armour like in Reach, they had unshielded Semi-Powered Infiltration armour.
Fun fact, it's a little hard to see, but if you pause the scene before MC and the girl leave the old lady's shop, you can see the old lady has an original Xbox (the fat heavy one) on her shelf.
Should just make the show a giant meme parody, at least then it would make sense as to why MC has his helmet off. Could make Cortana a person that just constantly nagging him throughout the series. Team up with Red V.S Blue, so much could be done as a funny parody.
Master Chief should have been like the Mandalorian; never taking off his mask. That could've made his character a lot more mysterious and just more badass overall.
57:47 You have no idea, they had two routes to take and they picked neither. In the book Chief has a mission which is destroying vital UNSC infrastructure before the Covenant can get to it. Basic military shit pretty much. In the game he just hangs out on the Pillar of Autumn until Cpt. Keyes tucks him into his cryopod with his fav blankie for sleepy time while Reach is getting glassed and Noble team is dying(except Jun cuz dying is gay). That second one would've made a better season than whatever this shit was.
I love how the sentiment going around seems to be “nobody ever thought of The Master Chief in that way” somehow we already have an Encyclopedia Brittanicas worth of memes to turn this one thought into a blockbuster film. Curious 👀 oh well it must mean nothing, moving on to never think about this again ooo a bird!
I don't know much about Halo or the fandom, but those edits are still really funny [: thanks for making something I normally wouldn't care about interesting enough to watch an hour review of it
The Keyes thing is because they had to check the current Hollywood trend box of making one of the preexisting main white characters black, even though they already had a great character who happened to be black, but just ignored his existence
One day I tried to give this show a shot because I saw it was on live tv. When I tuned in it was the weirdly sexual scene in the beginning with Chief making the avatar. I could only last 5 minutes before I had to change the channel again because wow that was so fucking weird
The flood reveal was 1) far to random and does not match up with the timeline of intial infection of the forerunners, it took way way longer to spread as a spore. 2) it was far to obvious what was happening and felt very forced. 3) whole episode should have focused solely on the flood out break. 4) wouldve been better to stay true to roots of the the og. Have sgt johnson discover the area and lose contact, with chief going in to figure out what happened. Honestly when the black out scene wouldve been way better if was Flood reveal.
I'm still trying to figure out who the target audience for this show is. It's certainly not fans of the Halo games. And I'm almost convinced it's not for everyone else either. So just the show runners. It's for them so they can say they made a "Halo" show.
The emergence of the flood in the game is one of the most iconic gaming moments and they found a way to do the complete opposite. I won't be watching season 3 but I'll be looking forward to the recap by Elvis.
It still boggles my mind. How can you give one of gaming's most iconic IPs such a piss-poor adaptation? What's next? A "Half-Life / Black Mesa" show in the style of "The Office" in which Gordon's the butt of the joke all the time?
Honestly the show feels like every episode was written by different people and after they wrote it they hired another bunch of people who took all those disjointed stories and rewrote them into into more connected mess.
i love when the guy is changing the board and chief is like "YO WTF WHO TOLD YOU TO CHANGE THAT, BOY?! IMA KILL YOU FOR THAT YOU LITTLE SHIT" and the kid is like "i dunno sir, i was told to. its my only job."
Halo has sadly been part of this trend, going on for a while, where writers who know nothing about the source material come in, subvert expectations, and ruin the fun. Just like a lot of Star Wars projects and other franchises.

Bro Pedro Pascal acted with his helmet for Mandalorian which is a comparable character to Master Cheif.
And glued it all together with the shredded remains of the books
Then forgot the story half way through and just winged it
no, not even that. They have never played halo, they learned about halo from a guy who played call of duty and watched the lastest star wars movies.
A Hollywood production not respecting lore or cannon? Say it ain't so!
It does things to me that shows like 1899 were canceled after a single season but shite like this lives on.
Nah, paramount got sold….halo is a waste of money….they will cancelled it.

Master Cheeks
Yes it is like John got the Jake Skywalker treatment right? THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 10 F*CKING YEARS NOW!!!!!!
Given how standard Master Chief's armor is, and how common the name John is, I just choose to believe that he's another random Spartan in the UNSC. Only problem would be the mentions of "117" and "Chief/Master Chief" in the show, but at least he's referred to as simply "John" pretty often in it as well.

My mum didn't get what I had a problem with for this show until I explained it similarly to this. When it clicked she was like lol I get it now.
A sitcom of the Dursleys would've been a better show.
Who's Harry Potter?
@@ProjectRedfootBro you can't be serious for not knowing who Harrry Potter is
He’s the guy from die hard right?
At least in the first couple of Halo books, there's no mention of Spartans not getting funerals, well, not directly. They do state that officially Spartans never die, even if their death is 100% confirmed, they are listed as missing in action, for propaganda reasons.
So I'd imagine they would either get a very private funeral, or a quiet disposal without any ceremony, but beyond the official listing, nothing is mentioned.
There's a funeral in the first book lol it's when John learns from Mendez that your men WILL die under your orders, it was like the 4th chapter

Hahaha yes 😂
“Spartans don’t die; they go missing in action.” Missed opportunity.
Sheer fucking incompetence.
No show runner who understands and loves the IP with a clear vision of where and what it should be, this the major problem, also kiki wolfkill is the woman that supervised halo tv show and nightfall and usually transmedia products, and you can clearly understand by the interviews she also doesn't understand halo

Hey, at least a Season 3 of Halo would involve, you know, Halo.
@@giin97 I stop watching halo after the third episode

It's a Halo AU fanfic written by people who have no interest in Halo
Mando is iconic, and we all love the actor(s) involved in playing him regardless of who's face we see. It's a fantastic performance.
This is just wank.
Eric Nylund wrote the most amazing books for Halo, and instead Paramount thought this would be a good way to go about it. Still extremely displeased to see Master Chiefs face at the end of the very first episode. Didn't even make us wait.

Glass it with holy fire!
"You see that bridge? I built that bridge."
Remember:don’t hate watch we don’t want another Velma situation ( oh wait it already happened)
To be fair, Velma was planned to have two seasons before season one officially aired, from what I've read.
And Velma show did way worse than Halo TV Show
This show genuinely feels the most like the people making it have only seen the box arts of halo and that’s it, cuz not only are they rushing shit, but they’re also dragging ass so much they introduced the arbiter BEFORE chief has ever been to a halo, it’s so dumb, I hate it
Arbiter is a title, not a singular character.
Like Abba once sang: "Money, money, money!"

One day I tried to give this show a shot because I saw it was on live tv. When I tuned in it was the weirdly sexual scene in the beginning with Chief making the avatar. I could only last 5 minutes before I had to change the channel again because wow that was so fucking weird
last time I was this early halo was a reliably good franchise
This video will serve as my watching of Season 2 and I already know I’m gonna enjoy this a hell of a lot more than I would the show
In other news, The Boys just dropped the first 3 episodes of the new season.
Refused to even hate watch this one, thanks for the summary.

It still boggles my mind. How can you give one of gaming's most iconic IPs such a piss-poor adaptation? What's next? A "Half-Life / Black Mesa" show in the style of "The Office" in which Gordon's the butt of the joke all the time?
I love how anyone can write a better story than what was presented in the show.
Happy to see that this video is shorter than the first one
Honestly the show feels like every episode was written by different people and after they wrote it they hired another bunch of people who took all those disjointed stories and rewrote them into into more connected mess.

Halo has sadly been part of this trend, going on for a while, where writers who know nothing about the source material come in, subvert expectations, and ruin the fun. Just like a lot of Star Wars projects and other franchises.
You ever gonna make a video on the new Nick cage movie, Arcadian?
Despite paying for this streaming service, you've saved me *SO* much time with your Halo videos. Thank you!
Also, do you have something against Kim Coates? I noticed that he's been featured in a couple of your reviews, yet you _never_ mention his TV contributions or other movie work. 😄

Oh my god I’ve been waiting for this for so long
PLEASE, you, and EVERYONE, if you haven't already, embrace the One True Only God YHWH Jehovah, Only One Jesus Christ His Only Begotten Son and Lord and Savior of our souls and the Only One Holy Spirit. God is good. God is love. Jesus is Lord. Jesus IS coming. Your soul depends on it!
I have seen God act in my life. He saved my soul, changed my heart, changed my mind, helped people through me, took care of people in my life, people I hurt before I found God. God is the only reason I was able to reconcile with my dad before he died.
God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. Be baptized in The Holy Spirit, and if He wills, water as well. Repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart, that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him.
Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible.
The Holy Bible says, "love thy enemy", "turn the other cheek", "If your enemy is hungry, feed him", "if he is thirsty, give him a drink", "pray for those who persecute you", "do not repay evil for evil".
LORD willing, all humans may commit sin of almost every kind (gay, straight), and that's wrong, and all humans sin, as God tells us through the The Holy Bible, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." The Holy Bible also says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
The people who made Halo are the type of people that would watch The Last of Us and think, "Well they liked it because people love zombie films."
27:21 “that’s what you signed up for” is the most accurate statement.
