It annoys me that ppl own a car like that which is capable of high speed with plenty of power then put crap tyres on it. Not only can it be dangerous for the driver but to everyone else.
100% sure that’s the issue with the gearbox, I had the same issue (although not as bad) on my mk4 r32, used a small file to clean out the corrosion in the tube, put it all back together and goes into all gears nicely now👌🏼
£5250 is my guess with it being in a barn and anything could have been wrong. May well be just the gear change issue that put them off getting it fixed and didn’t get around to getting it sorted due to perceived likely cost? Great video as always 👍
Sounded a little like marbles in a can to me! Like to hear noise by the chain cover to be sure. Hopefully for you it’s just the gear selector though!! Hopefully for us R32 engine owners you have to do a chain replacement guide! 😂
£6100 check to see if the coil packs have been replaced under warranty - when I had my 2006 R32 around 6 years ago, they went and VW took it in - boom fixed the lot for nada. It was a recall apparently!
My R32 come from an older gentleman and his son was selling it for him. I had to replace both rear callipers because they seize up at this age and mileage. I checked both fans as the smaller one can stop working and bigger fan over compensates. Mine has 78000 on clock and gear box is sweet but seems to feel knotchy in general When changing gear. When doing full service clean all coil packs. Looking forward to the next episode Love these cars
My guess is 8k on the price. With that mileage I bet its had a few owners who have let it site rather than drive it which is a vw's achilles heal. My mk4 gti was the same. Keep up the good work Dean!
I’d be checking vcds for the chain values when it’s warm. Blocks 208 & 209 should be as close as possible to 0°, the spread should not exceed 3° intake adjustment range 52°/exhaust adjustment range 42°): • For both blocks 90 & 91 the set-point value at idle is 0°, no matter what the values in blocks 208 & 209, at a duty ratio of about 15.3%. The actual value should not be more than 0.5 ° (Valid for both OEM & aftermarket cams). If the values are way off from 0° the timing chain may be mistimed or skipped. Around 11.25° deviation corresponds to a skip of 1 tooth.
I'd say £8499. Check the chains using VCDS even though it has low mileage. Strange how it was parked up for so long. When you introduced it at first, thought it was a non runner with chains snapped lol. Hate the thought of paying the high TAX band on the newer R32's . . .
Nice one Dean 👍 maybe that's all that's wrong with it the guy might of thought it was the gearbox then parked it up when it's only that plastic rod thing that siezed 🤔
I had a shadow blue 3 door manual one of these 57 plate, Check the front springs, if they aren’t already they will crack in half, notorious as they don’t use enough carbon in the steel Sounded nice but was slower than my mk5 Gti
I had the same gear issue on my octavia vrs after sitting for 2 years, managed to remove the part you broke, cleaned it up and greased and refitted all been fine for the last 2 years, guesthey don't lube them from factory
Nice Car Dean. Mabey the owner went to Prison or Emigration. There's loads of different reasons it could have been parked up. But it does seem very sudden. And it doesn't take long for you too find out lol. Well done. Cheap fix. I Rechon Dean thats the problem because you cant drive it with the Gear selector broke. The Owner thought it was the Gearbox. At least that's what I'm Praying for. Nice buy Dean. 😅😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮 £7.500 I think. But i can't tell from Ireland. We do Euro's lol
@@colfhax Good one. It could be that as well. But whatever happened I think was innocent enough. Because of buying it brand new. They must have had money. Expensive enough when it was New.
I own one too. Good to see someone else saving one. Mind you, i can hear the all famous timing chain noise on this car. Just look it up on TH-cam: Golf 5 R32 steuerkette. I would reccomend changing the timing chain!
As slow as a week in the jail 😂 I hate it when folk try and egg you on wanting to race,am like “on you go mate,am no even going to bother trying to keep up”!!!
It's not the shaft that goes into the box it's the pivot and nylon sleeve they get squeezed by the alloy gearbox casing through corrosion i have done quite a few Mk1 Skoda Octavias and Mk5 Golfs, i just clean the casing out grease the nylon sleeve up insert that then grease the selector plate and install that, i don't think it's down to lack of use because one of the Octavias i did was a Taxi and they are up and down the gears day in and day out i think it's down to the battery gasses with the battery being closed in with that battery box the gasses can only go one way and that's downwards towards that area and furrs the gearbox casing up around that area.
How come if it has only had one owner from new and you bought it from them, that you don’ know what’s wrong with it? The only answer I can think of for that is they are a fugitive, in jail or departed! Hopefully you have a fourth option. :)
£6750 id say as its a bit rough. change that selector to short shifter, makes such a difference to gearchange. you can set how long or short the throw is and it will replace that rusty bit of junk.
My mk4 Gti has a similar issue with the gearbox, generally is okay but when it gets hot the gearstick you can push over one way and it stays there, but with more use it seems to have loosened.
Yeah, definitely think that plastic bit/guide is the culprit with the gearbox, only time tell if there's anything else unseen yet, decent car tho, looking forward to the next vid, well done Dean.
@SavingSalvage module 25 is the immobiliser which is built into the instrument cluster. That "module defective" fault code is quite common on VW group vehicles, can be caused by auto locksmiths trying to gain access to the immobiliser to code additional keys or when there is an "all keys lost" situation and they need to add a key but don't have an original key to authorise them into the immobiliser to add it. If the car still has original key(s) then that fault code could just be due to the original cluster being replaced and again a tech or locksmith had to force their way into the immobiliser which will leave that fault code afterwards. Finally that fault code can just be "one of those things" with age etc, it doesn't always lead to a disaster and won't throw any warnings on the cluster display normally.
Got a soft spot for the original hot wagon. Regret letting go of my Mk7 3dr stage 1 + 328 bhp (non split diff) howler. 2014 plate.... 22k miles.... A unicorn and I sold it! 😢
New tyres needed all round then! They’ll be knackered like caravan tyres that just sit still for ages? The fact the owner puts cheap tyres on this type of car is a flashing red light that it has had zero maintenance and was bought for show? Obvious question is why can’t you ask the owner why it is/was parked up? Are they detained somewhere else?
Most gearbox specialists will insist on the car having 4 new tyres on before they look at it if its a 4wd was my first thought when you said it had new tyres wonder if its the diff thats whining and clunking?
I’ll guess £8500 The gear linkage seizing up is common on a lot of cars left sitting. Even my daughters mini had the same fault and I had to drill it out and fitted a serviceable part from eBay.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if it’s just that gear selector thingy majigz 😁 but crazy to just park it up if it was that Dean after putting quite a lot of cash into passing the M O T , strange one 🤔.
Alarm siren unit has probably got corroded backup battery unit. Most VAG cars suffer from this from that era. Buy a new replacement not a used one as they are all the same.
I've not scrolled through all the comments but I can't be the only one thinking as to why you never asked the guy before you bought it why he parked it in there in the first place?
It looks like it's all rusty around where the linkage is. My guess is that there was a spillage which ended up seizing up the linkage & the gear box has survived this due to being sealed. £3250

I reckon the owner maybe lost their licence, would explain why it was laid up for all this time, probably can’t afford the insurance now they can drive again.. 😢
Wingbacks and sun roof spec like that and left in a barn🤯🤯 my guess with that spec and miles… £7500-8000 retail 11-12k if problems fixed been out the game with those for about 2/3 year now 😅 if I win tickets give to someone else 👍
I would guess £9,700, 1 owner low mileage, the tyres indicate that maybe times were tough and it was atken off theroad to use a weekend car, then covid and was never used.
Probably is the problem the reason it was in storage probably because he got another car and didn’t want to part with it at the time. But now prices have gone through the roof so he’s probably made money on it or git his original bought price back
Im guessing £6750. Due to it needing all that bodywork. It sounds like it just became expensive to run with fuel prices being extortionate few years ago. And now lol!
Price estimate would be £5850. There’s a possibility that the previous owner had a bump in different car and their premiums went though the roof. Might have put it in storage until they could afford to insure it. 🤷🏽♂️
Dean, is there any chance in the channel description can you put the links/discount codes? Just to make life's easier.... just a thought buddy, great video BTW 👍
Oh, and do you think they alarm stuff could possibly be due to the battery going flat? Maybe when the new battery is on, clear the faults and see if the alarm issues come up again
It could be it got it all MOT and due to ill health could not drive the car anymore. I had the same with the car I just rescued a 1996 Ford Mondeo been sat in garage for 11 years
£5500 in my head, but then again if the previous owner left it for that long he mustn't of been fussed about pulling his money out of it, meaning a much higher offer £8000 or something to tempt him to sell up
£7000
DM me you winner! 🎉 👏🏼
Thanks Dean
I'd be tempted to change the haldex oil and filter while it's on the ramp. That stuff gets a bit gummy
It annoys me that ppl own a car like that which is capable of high speed with plenty of power then put crap tyres on it. Not only can it be dangerous for the driver but to everyone else.
Tyres were probably changed because they left a pattern down the dirt track when they dropped the body off, and hidden away until the dust settled 🙄
£7150
🤣🤣🤣👍
Dent in the door and wing looks like a bat or police batten😅

The previous owner might of been banged up for 4 years 😂😂
😂😂😂
You never know there might be some drugs or cash stuffed behind one of the door panels.....

Some people go for full exhaust systems or cat backs with these, I’ve noticed with my previous ones just a simple resonator delete sounds amazing
Dean don't forget to change the Haldex oil and filter as well as the cabin and air filter, it's little things like this that get forgotten.
Nice one Dean 👍 maybe that's all that's wrong with it the guy might of thought it was the gearbox then parked it up when it's only that plastic rod thing that siezed 🤔

As a VW Passat R36 owner, thank you.
A very rare beast, haven’t drove one for a lot of years but still a great drive 👍

One of the best sounding engines that’s for sure, it’s a shame they are pretty slow 😂
Very good at turning unleaded into noise and little else. 😂
As slow as a week in the jail 😂 I hate it when folk try and egg you on wanting to race,am like “on you go mate,am no even going to bother trying to keep up”!!!
Well my supercharged one isn’t slow 😊
My turboed one isn't either 😁
slow? hahha they do 5.9 seconds to 100kmh thats not slow for a 1580kg car with only 250 hp and topspeed of 260+
Absolutely change oil filter and water pump, I had to do that job twice & it was a nice expense, also coil packs, they're another pain
Look at the R32 & you realise car design of today is going to the dogs.
Yeah, the previous owner thought the gearbox was nackered. Good for you! 4000 quid. You got a bargain, mate!
How come if it has only had one owner from new and you bought it from them, that you don’ know what’s wrong with it? The only answer I can think of for that is they are a fugitive, in jail or departed! Hopefully you have a fourth option. :)
Loved my r32 such a fun cafe and that rasp from tge r32 is just amazing. £6500
£6750 id say as its a bit rough. change that selector to short shifter, makes such a difference to gearchange. you can set how long or short the throw is and it will replace that rusty bit of junk.
Peeps love these cars...it will make great content...its a classic
Love an R32 especially with this spec. These fetching good money these days. I guess you paid around £9,800.
Great video and good to see you saving an R32! My guess is £7399 if you paid strong money low miles, wingbacks and one owner.
I’m guessing you paid £3800 great video
My mk4 Gti has a similar issue with the gearbox, generally is okay but when it gets hot the gearstick you can push over one way and it stays there, but with more use it seems to have loosened.
my guess would be 10k but you were incredibly blessed to find this piece of jewellery .. what a great engine sound

PS my guess is with the exterior damage you paid £6.5K
That is a beautiful car. No one no matter what the problem is fixed. It get it back on the road cannot buy them anymore.
Haven't a clue what's wrong with it, but it sounds sweet, so will be great once you've tarted it up, get your wrapping skills out again. Great work 👍
Nice buy mate, fair play.... just hoping the immobiliser/surrounding modules don't present an intermittent issue bud 🙏
good buy now a day they are rare cars, volkswagen should at least support you for bringing back so many audi & volkswagen cars.
Good luck
Got a soft spot for the original hot wagon. Regret letting go of my Mk7 3dr stage 1 + 328 bhp (non split diff) howler. 2014 plate.... 22k miles.... A unicorn and I sold it! 😢
The entire gear box selector looked unusually rusty. Maybe it was exposed to salt water ? But I think you solved the problem. Thanks, RickGTI….. 🌴🇺🇸
Gotta be £8450 strong money but like you said, 3dr low miles and wingbacks alone go for £2.5k
A good dent master would sort those dents out…. They are mustard at what they do
Great content keep up the hard work and it all pay off
I missed out on a 5 door with wingbacks now got a lovely grey 5 door
I think strong money for a laid up one would be £6300 with that low mileage
Those plastic gear selectors seize due to lack of use, usually after a year or so. I doubt it was a problem when the car was laid up.
New tyres needed all round then! They’ll be knackered like caravan tyres that just sit still for ages? The fact the owner puts cheap tyres on this type of car is a flashing red light that it has had zero maintenance and was bought for show? I'm going to say you paid £6200 for it, lovely car's I remember the first time I drove one, that engine sounds brilliant.
Most gearbox specialists will insist on the car having 4 new tyres on before they look at it if its a 4wd was my first thought when you said it had new tyres wonder if its the diff thats whining and clunking?
Gear linkage needs the side to side tower taking off the top of the gearbox and greasing up be fine then
I’ll guess £8500
The gear linkage seizing up is common on a lot of cars left sitting. Even my daughters mini had the same fault and I had to drill it out and fitted a serviceable part from eBay.
I'd guess £6900. Love these engines. One of the best sounding of all time. 😊
It's gorgeous, dents and all 😍😍😍😍. I love R32s. Much love from 🇿🇦
Timing chain may have stretched, that’s a common issue which you probably wouldn’t have picked up on yet
Great video as always, look forward to next one. 👍👍👍👍
Wouldn’t it be amazing if it’s just that gear selector thingy majigz 😁 but crazy to just park it up if it was that Dean after putting quite a lot of cash into passing the M O T , strange one 🤔.
Remember Dean, Lady Luck favours those who deserve her, and with the graft you put in she's got to be close by. Cheers, Bob
Had a blue one years ago and I must say they are special cars 👍
A very rare example, absolutely stunning
£7,240 is my guess, 3dr manual with wingbacks. Someone's pride that, shame it sat rotten for so long
My guess is £6750, taking into account the paint work needed, but the car definitely worth a lot more being 1 owner and low miles.
definately service the Haldex too! My guess is 7900£
Love the sound of a VR6 engine
Alarm siren unit has probably got corroded backup battery unit. Most VAG cars suffer from this from that era.
Buy a new replacement not a used one as they are all the same.
Hi
I have a question about the tvr . Have you sold or work you again on the Car. Can't wait to see the next video !
Looking forward to this one, my brother has one which needs a lot of TLC!! I’ll guess at £4800??
Will be fantastic when all sorted .
16000 grand I reckon
This is one of those channels that you hit 'like' before the video has even started playing.
I've not scrolled through all the comments but I can't be the only one thinking as to why you never asked the guy before you bought it why he parked it in there in the first place?
I think he was told the gearbox was knackered! Result for you
It looks like it's all rusty around where the linkage is.
My guess is that there was a spillage which ended up seizing up the linkage & the gear box has survived this due to being sealed.
£3250
Maybe some undeclared front corner damage needing that new wishbone? Can you see anything else odd in that area?
Bellman Autos can sort out the Hiline display and Multifunction steering wheel
I’ll guess 4K nice exhaust note now back to the video
I have a friend who buys cars when they are going cheap, gets them mot’d then for whatever reason theyend up parked up for ages. He uses his van all the time. Maybe this was the same🤷🏼♂️
They sound so nice. Not really a VW guy so I have no clue but I do like a BMW 😊 i’ll go for a guess at £10600
As a 3 door it’s worth more but as a manual it’s not as valuable as a dsg with the high line dash
Hope you carry on with these bread and butter cars mate that people really like too see Repaired not like Matt Armstrong who seems too have completely lost his way and seems too now think his target audience is the USA which has completely lost my interest but your still keeping it real I hope it continues mate I've been watching your channel from the beginning cheers fella keep up the interesting content.
Hello £8750 good luck with the R32
I have one in my garage and love it
Great show
Thank you
The rear brake binding would've failed MOT so must've happened since
Always wanted one of these! Had a go on a dsg back in the day, I reckon£ 6750
I’ll guess £8900. Great looking car and a steal if that is what you paid and is a cheap fix fingers crossed!!
I reckon the owner maybe lost their licence, would explain why it was laid up for all this time, probably can’t afford the insurance now they can drive again.. 😢
How can u buy a car from the owner and not know why he parked it up ? Anyway good luck and hope it’s a cheap and easy fix 👍
Wingbacks and sun roof spec like that and left in a barn🤯🤯 my guess with that spec and miles… £7500-8000 retail 11-12k if problems fixed been out the game with those for about 2/3 year now 😅 if I win tickets give to someone else 👍

£5500 is my guess. Low, but it was a barn find with an unknown problem so still a gamble
Im guessing £6750. Due to it needing all that bodywork. It sounds like it just became expensive to run with fuel prices being extortionate few years ago. And now lol!
25 - Anti theft immo - 00003 could mean the mileage in the instrument has been adjusted with a well known brand.
£7200 for the win.
Love my 3.2 TT sounds great and it’s a manual
Price estimate would be £5850. There’s a possibility that the previous owner had a bump in different car and their premiums went though the roof. Might have put it in storage until they could afford to insure it. 🤷🏽♂️
My guess is a low one - 4.5k 🤷♂️ i know a good one that low on miles will be worth double but its barn/salvage so that explains my guess 😂
thankyou Dean, great content 👌👍and looking forward to the follow up,,
My guess would be £8500, low mileage and good spec 👌
Dean, is there any chance in the channel description can you put the links/discount codes? Just to make life's easier.... just a thought buddy, great video BTW 👍
Oh, and do you think they alarm stuff could possibly be due to the battery going flat? Maybe when the new battery is on, clear the faults and see if the alarm issues come up again
Better with the DSG gearbox😎
It could be it got it all MOT and due to ill health could not drive the car anymore. I had the same with the car I just rescued a 1996 Ford Mondeo been sat in garage for 11 years
£5500 in my head, but then again if the previous owner left it for that long he mustn't of been fussed about pulling his money out of it, meaning a much higher offer £8000 or something to tempt him to sell up
