When I worked for Penske truck rental almost all the trucks had their plates mounted there. Ya i get its hard to see it for a camera, but its in full view to meet the law that states it must be visible for DOT/police. Also for the USPS van, they dont need plates, a Post Master explained that one to me. The ID number on the van (seen in the video briefly on the upper side of the left rear door) is how the post office tracks the vans and deals with registration, no need to stamp out thousands of US Government plates for the mail trucks.

But we will hear in a couple years that the price has to go up anyway. The same thing happened with water rates here. Water used to be free. Forget tolls and fees in NYC.
New York City needs vehicle coding as is done in Manila, Philippines.
Based on license plate numbers, a private vehicle is required to be off the streets from 6 AM- 7 PM one day each week, excluding weekends and holidays. This reduces the amount of vehicles on city streets by about 20%. Commercial vehicles would be exempt.

As a Euopean I've tried to say the same things many times in "Not just bikes" videos...
That the idealized narrative he sells only really works if you're a upper-middle or upper-class citizen.
This is what's happening in many European cities:
    - 1. It always starts with NIMBY building policies to prevent new construction to preserve the "identity" of the city.
    - 2. After housing and rent prices have gone through the roof they remove public infrastructure like street parking for residents, which disproportionally affects the working class who are most likely to to need a vehicle for their job, or they work in areas with poor public transport options.
The upper-middle class is most likely to work in the city centre in areas that have great public transport, or that can be easily accecable by bike, as well as being much more likely to live in new construction that has built in underground parking, or is able to afford underground parking near where they live. Or they are just straight up rich enough to own houses with garages within the city.
    - 3. When the working class have moved out of the city due to sky-high rent and no street parking, they gentrify the area for the rich upper middle class.
    - 4. The working class who were first forced out of the city now have to commute back in for work, leading to a huge increase in congestion in and out of the city.
    - 5. They put up toll booths on roads leading in and out of the city, disproportionally punishing those working class people who no longer could afford to live there, but still have to commute in for work.
TLDR; It's cheap to be rich, and expensive to be poor.

    • @opart
      @opart 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

At least in most of the Europe you have incredibly convenient public transportation, to and from the bigger cities. US and NYC has completely dysfunctional systems in place.
So if you are outside of the city, transportation is often out of the question.
There are hundreds of thousands of people entering Manhattan just from New Jersey every day (which is just across the river), yet the most recent infrastructure project to connect to NYC was complete in 1930s. These are overcrowded and often fail :/
      Lincoln tunnel: 1937,
      Holland tunnel: 1927,
      North River train tunnel 1908,
      George Washington bridge: 1931,
      Path train tunnels: 1908.
And don't get me started on healthcare :/

@@Oysteims Absolutely. I've been driving in NYC for last 15+ years, and honestly if it was about congestion, they would regulate Lift and Uber services instead - 8 out of 10 cars in Manhattan traffic are now T&L cars.
I assume you are in Norway, and if you are disappointed with what is going on there, you would be outraged with what is going on in NYC or US in general.
I just came back from Denmark, where once more I was reminded how efficient the transportation can be, and how messed up it is in US.
