Starbucks stock is way down. I imagine that location was very expensive rent and is the reason the employees stated the location closed= not crime. They just are restructuring. They hired a new ceo for i think 113 mil lol and have mismanaged. Cash himself calls their coffee trash and its overpriced. Starbucks is restructuring and even offering drink specials. So, I live in an area that is quite nice and have lived here for over 40 years (essentially my whole life). I haven't been to this one particular book store in over a year, but went three days ago. I noticed that all of the armchairs and couches had been removed, so no more sitting quietly and enjoying yourself with your new book. While I was checking out, a customer popped up and asked the clerk, "What's the code for the bathroom?" and the clerk gave her a quick 4-digit number. Obviously, they have also locked down the restrooms to control who goes in. Although I appreciate safety measures designed to keep control and prevent crime, it's so sad to see these changes. I had heard that the area of town that the bookstore is in has been declining because of crime and drug use, but it's still shocking when I can clearly remember how different it was even 3 years ago! I am so worried about how things will look 3 years in the future....but it's not looking good.

I’ve worked in NYC cafes for 20 years and I can promise you if a coffee shop doesn’t give free water to the homeless or let them use the bathroom, they will not have significant issues.
On ground level, it sounds noble, but it will certainly be their downfall. Did you all think that your leaders were actually going to end the problem after setting up anti-homeless art all over the city? Not trying to be rude i just asking for perspective from someone who is from the area cause I ain't.
What? I do not understand your comment. You are using two double negatives. Are you saying cafes will have problems unless they offer free water and use of the loo to the homeless? Or, are you saying cafes will not have problems so long as they are NOT offering free water and use of the loo to the homeless??
I'm a Canadian. I'm surprised at how little foot traffic and car traffic is showing in this video. NYC really is in bad shape. Thanks for your informative videos. There is no such thing as victimless crime.
the service industry needs customers. I would imagine lots of businesses decided they didn't need office space after the pandemic or decided to move due to other political decisions.
It’s busy as hell with car and foot traffic. Must have been a fairly mellow time of day, and summer can be a bit slower with lots of New Yorkers spending time out of the city.
I remember when "defund the police" and "criminal justice reform" was all the sexy political rage. Politicians used to canvas our old neighborhood. I asked one why would I vote to release criminals into my neighborhood with no punishment. He told me to go and talk to the criminals. Some just need a good mentor. I sold my house and moved to another safer neighborhood in the city. There are still safe pockets. But those neighborhoods are now so expensive because the city is going down hill fast.
It's not because of crime but people are tired of ridiculous prices of burnt coffee at a premium price. Also the rent is very high in NYC, so they figure, it's cheaper to set up shops at Interstate service areas than to keep paying high rent. And after COVID, professional work arrangements has vastly changed from "report to office" to "as long as you get your work done" from a corporate policy perspective. So people are no longer lining up in the store to get a cup of joe in midtown Manhattan like the 90's.
I left at the start of Covid, not intentionally. But every week/month it became to go back. I really wish I could live there because I love the city, but the crime is something out of a comic book.
For a good while, Starbucks was letting homeless people/people who didn't actually purchase anything from Starbucks, just occupy seating...let them into bathrooms, etc. They set the stage.
Some of that was due to government and activist protests to let them do that. It's just another example of letting a child eat all the candy they want and then don't hold them responsible when the tummy hurts.
Starbucks is avoiding taxes in the USA. Its HQ was moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for avoiding taxes, and when caught by Dutch MSM, Starbucks fled to the UK for tax avoiding. IRS was misled by a post office box in London, and prior Amsterdam. Starbucks is a scam.

Even, the Starbucks near my job closed last (?) year. Too much crime, where people would come breaking into people’s cars as they went in to get coffee. Raising Canes right next to it, they had to ban indoor dining for the same reason. Also, to say non violent crimes have no victims is the stupidest thing ever. People who had jobs are losing their only, second or third way to make more income…
Starbucks should have removed the public bathroom policy. Do a card only purchases, and removed seating inside. But their policies would not let them do this.
I live in a small city that still has a huge homeless population and our downtown Starbucks has strict rules about how to pick up online orders and only paying customers are allowed to sit inside and use the bathroom. Homeless people will sit outside but this is in all of downtown. They’re generally pretty respectful of the rules in that area but I couldn’t say the same for other areas of the city. It has definitely led to a lot of shoplifting, littering, person in person crime, etc
corporations like Starbucks and target ,and Walmart etc put money in the hands of both Democrats and Republicans so let's be real there's a lot wrong with politics in this country
I can assure you that crime and safety concerns is the one and ONLY reason these are closing. In fact here in Seattle the first ever Starbucks (accross from Pike Place Market) closed its doors recently. It was a shock to most people. That place always had a line out the door. It was a major tourist attraction, but......... the crime, homelessness, violence was too much and the cops were doing NOTHING!!! Not the cops fault though. The super pc, "woke" seattle leaders have them bogged down by ridiculous policies giving the criminals more rights than the law abiding citizens. It's crazy time people.

My friend went to the starbucks at Columbus Circle, he ordered a pastry, the employee UNLOCKED the pastry thing to get it out, and a man ran in took all the pastries and ran out. My friend asked what just happened, and the employee said this happens literally every day.
The idea that a non violent crime has no victims is ridiculous. If there are no victims or negative consequences to someone’s action, there wouldn’t have been a reason to make that thing illegal in the first place.
You’d think that, but no. Never underestimate mob authoritarianism. (See Democratic and Republican parties of the United States of America for more info).
In Philadelphia it's been known my entire life that if your not a paying customer you can't use their restroom. Starbuck's decided to back the non paying customers 'racism' claims and sent their emplyees to be 're-educted'. Not long after Starbuck's had the bathrooms open to the homeless, let them park their shopping carts at the door, handed out free ice water and let the homeless come in to stay warm.. Soon after Starbuck's closed, as did the rest of the block including the University. Philadelphia city council was upset.
You nailed it. Have worked for a company that had two NYC cafes and only one had staff that gave out water and let homeless use the bathroom. The one that did was a total disaster, the other had zero issues.
In Hong Kong we are limited with our space. A lot of coffee shops are order and pick up only. Starbucks could have downsized and solved 90% of their problems.
I was struck by the fact that policies are beginning to call thieves "victims of society." Well, I regret to say that this is what happens in developing countries, which means that the system is going to defend the thieves and not the citizens.
But those thieves were part of another society, in Honduras, Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, Iran, Syria, China, and 147 other countries. Not USA, not NYC, not NY.

Does anyone else sense a more sinister underlying issue with these closures, which deviate significantly from typical American business practices? It appears that criminals may have gained substantial influence within the judicial system, resulting in lawless behavior being met with complete protection and a lack of accountability, leaving victims without recourse. The current metrics and systems seem to be fundamentally flawed. If billion-dollar companies are capitulating to criminal activities and disruptive social behavior, it raises concerns for the rest of society. The problem is there's money to be made in homelessness, they tax the people and pump money on solving homelessness while really not solving it.. Ok we are about to solve homelessness if we pump in more money, just a little more, just a little more.....
NYC also skews the crime statistics because most businesses do not report the thefts because they do not want insurance increases and they understand that these crimes are not punishable.

It's not because of crime but people are tired of ridiculous prices of burnt coffee at a premium price. But then ppl also have to think how heavy handed the response will have to be. I don't care for politics but i'm almost willing to bet the government will seek more power than ever before while being tough on crime after this next election. And once they have power they never give it up. never

Even before the pandemic, the bathrooms at Starbucks were a nuclear wasteland of human filth.
In my town I have seen two women coming out of the Starbucks bathroom. I have seen two men coming out of the bathroom at the Starbucks. Some Starbucks locations have started removing chairs and tables from outside so homeless people won't sit there all-day with their shopping carts. 😂😂🤣🤣
Fr haha especially gas stations
I agree!
I know it’s weird to see normal bathrooms elsewhere. I didn’t get why everyone peeing at Starbucks here in NY needed six minutes in there
@@istvanprahafamilies and how many ppl ...but more likely the illegal bs happening in there. I wouldn't wanna deal with that after knowing tht is going in there
There is a convenience store in my area where every employee is armed. They get higher wages than other stores make. Everyone around them has been robbed multiple times. They never have. Not once.
I holidayed in New York in 2004 for my 50th birthday. I remember the times I would walk back to my Midtown hotel from the Lincoln Centre near midnight. There were so many cops on the street I felt safer in NY than I ever did in any of the big UK cities I have lived in like Glasgow, Manchester or Leeds. Rudy Giuliani had really cleaned up the city. So sad to see how it has declined since. But this is what you get when you vote woke politicians into power. It is amazing how so many people can never see the connection. This kind of disaster is happening here in the UK. London has descended into violent chaos and the architect of this is the mayor, Sadiq Khan. But he keeps on getting reelected.
Honestly, landlords are cretins at times. I worked for a restaurant chain and during Covid the landlord decided to raise the rent despite our company telling them we wanted a rent reduction as we were loosing money. The landlord apparently not only refused but was also quite rude. As a result, taking advantage of covid, the company closed down the stores with that landlord and rendered other stores that had lowered their rent and used the fact that no client was going out to fix the restaurant. The landlord lost at least 4 locations that were with us. Many of those stores are still empty today.
At this point, I feel like Cash is the only individual who can keep his cool in NYC.
Nah I’m chilling bro ; just took out a woke chick with pink hair . Walking through bk without a care. Hes fear mongering
Cash seems to ignore Central Park West and the Upper East Side...where I have not seen anything bad.
Starbucks? Who cares? I'd rather patronize independents.

They closed up shop in Sacramento too. Customers couldn't get through all the tents on the sidewalk.

Ever notice how stories like this don't come from States like Ohio, Florida, Texas, and others?
it does it's just under reported. Remember, this concept of items being locked up behind bullet proof glass is something you'll see across the U.S. And by the way this isn't a new thing it has been going on for as long as I've been on this planet. Does it ever feel odd that you have to pay for gas first before you can pump your gas? If you visit Canada or anywhere else in the world you pay at the end. After all, none of us are Nostradamus, we cannot tell how much fuel we'll need down to the litre.
Ohio isn't a great place to live but I'm grateful that it is not New York
Good everyone should move out of nyc so I can afford my rent 😂
Starbucks is purposely closing stores in blue states before election season. Don't you see that?
For now my friend.. This Canadian see what has happened to every western country a few like Sweden/Netherlands and Germany trying to fight back but if trump loses build back better by WEF and commiekamala will have the entire USA within 10 years beside a very very few very very small militia that will hold out but they will fall too. Uk is on the verge of all out destruction, bangledesh fell last week completely and venezuela is owned by the ccp
It’s sad 8th st. and Lafayette Starbucks is closed 😢. I used to go there often when I lived near the store.
Actually my new bycle was stolen while having a coffee even though it had 2 locks 😂. Despite of the bad memory, I still went there often.
The primary reason a business closes is because it’s not financially viable. Why it was not financially viable is quite evident.
I'm glad greedy starbuck shutdown
Now small coffee shops can finally survive
@@SilkSonic-c9z Starbucks isn’t causing small businesses to not thrive. If that business has quality coffee and ambiance and great service and marketing, it’ll be fine. Unless they’re giving out freebies and letting people trash their business I don’t see how Starbucks would really dip in their profit pond too much. Compete with the best or get out the business.

Forced out of business, yet still woke enough to avoid openly stating the reasons why. Now that's commitment to the cause.
Committed to the delusion 😂
Can those business forced out of work sue the state or NYC? For not doing their job? They put their business at stake for their political gain. And it is malpractice by NYC administration.
It's probably because the real reason they closed wasn't due to crime but due to the fact the store was unionized.
If Starbucks closed stores because of crime the ones in Harlem would not be there.
In the rural red areas where my parents have lived, all but two businesses have closed there doors because the area has become too poor to even sustain business and also because everyone is on meth and disability. So what has ruined their town if not wokeness? I'm sure you'll find a way to blame that on the democrats too, even though everyone in towns like that all over the country have been voting republican for decades
@@stealthmaster96 maybe but from what I’ve seen staff from Harlem, Bronx etc have no issues drawing the line in a way that keeps crime down. It’s the young woke Midwest transplants that let bad actors walk all over them in the name of tolerance. So not too likely crime will effect that Harlem stores, while some in Chelsea are a mess.
Another big problem is as the city goes downhill; fewer well healed visitors ( spending close to $1,000 a day) want to come and spend money.
How in the everlasting gobstopper did we let homelessness get so out of control in America? Somewhere down the street, I can hear Nero fiddling

Morality out the window in Amerika...
That's called "Broken Window Theory." Doesn't look like a theory now does it?
Most places criminals think its only illegal if you get caught. In NY its only illegal if you get prosecuted, getting caught doesn't mean anything.
In California stealing something under US$ 1,000 is not a felony. Geeezzzz, see the crime rate rise. Oh, not the crime rate, the theft rate.

I was in NYC last August and went to see my old office 500, 5th Avenue. I was amazed how empty manhattan felt. Back in late 1990’s and early 2000’s trying to walk down 5th Avenue was like a 7 people wide tsunami… now big spaces and never needed to step off sidewalk once. Move away from main thoroughfares and store fronts were boarded up and streets near empty. 😵💫

NY used to be a nice city. It has turned into an expensive, crime filled broken down city, yet locals vote for the same cycle, more of the same.
Do they? Do you trust elections anymore? Especially if it just brings back the same flavourless uniparty?
@Mm-te8tz My last visit I stayed in BK. I didn't have the heart to venture out

It’s painfully obvious that there is no such thing as a “victimless crime”. It’s past time the politicians admit it.
the State is the victim, obviously

Not really. Elections have consequences. This is what the people voted for.
There is one example and that is regulated prostitution, but otherwise, yes, I agree.

Been telling people for past few years that it is not worth living in NY since crimes gone up 300%. Rent is outrageous, underground MTA filthy stations, congestion pricing, and plenty of tax ( city tax, state tax, federal tax ).
