  • With a BIG trip on the horizon, it's time for the CB1000R to get a bit of a service.
    In this video I change the oil and oil filter, fit a K&N Air filter, check the chain tension, change the rear tyre, check the brake pads and generally have a good old fettle on the machines under-bits!

    Roll up a piece of paper funnel one time use. Roll up whatever size you want.

      It would have taken longer to go upstairs and dig out something suitable, than just manning up and holding the bottle! I’ll have a funnel for next time.

    Andy, Andy, Andy. Greetings from an Australian fan who loves your channel and dry wit. I’m petrified of any 8 legged creatures no matter how big or small even living in Melbourne. Friends have always found this to be interesting considering I’m an ex Australian Superbike racer with Phillip Island being my home track. What I can’t believe is a man like yourself, who basically has a tool for everything is why don’t you have a cheap strapped option oil filter clamp and remover? I would’ve stopped (not punching a hole in the filter) and gone and purchased one. Just doing the dollar conversion you could get one for less than €5. Even a budget concise person can afford what I call is a must have tool. Keep up the great work. 👍😎🇦🇺

      That is interesting! But where we’re all different in different things eh?!
      I decided to just get on with it as the nearest place to get a funnel would have been an hour there and back and time was tight! All in all, the screwdriver trick worked well and i got to flex the guns while the bike filled up! 💪🏻

    Love this video! I am considering this bike. I love how Honda designed the air filter to be serviced without having to undo the fuel tank! Be careful with k&n filters. They seem to allow a lot of debris thru and into your engine.

    Hey buddy how is it going 😎🤝I have a question please ! I want to swap stock sprockets. I found a Renthal brand 15T front sprocket & 44T rear sprocket. Will they fit my model ? Also is aluminum anodized a quality material for a rear sprocket (made by Renthal) ? Sorry I know these question are kind of intrusive but I am in a hurry to check out on eBay now 🤪
    Thank you much

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I couldn’t honestly say I’m afraid. If they say they’ll fit in the renthal info, then i guess they should. I had an aluminum sprocket on my Versys and it was absolutely fine. Bit less power mind! You have to REALLY stay on top of cleaning and lubing the chain as the ally sprocket will wear much faster.

    Dear Santa, please can I have an oil filter cup wrench and a funnel for Christmas. 😁
    With my Honda the fluid levels need to be checked with both wheels on level ground. I e. Not on any sort of stand - not even the centre stand. It makes a considerable difference when checking the oil and water levels. Have you now over filled the oil? 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️

    Oh yes. Have you now invalidated your warranty? 😬

    May I ask you something? I did some research regarding cb1000r and read complaints about the sump paint flaking and the bad rear suspension. What do you think about it? Also, have you had a chance to ride gsx s1000. Can't decide between these two bikes

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris. Sure! The paint on the oil sump is an absolute disaster and began the poisoning of my mood for the CB1000R. Made worse only by Honda Germany‘s complete lack of interest in fixing it. After 6 months my bike looked like it had done 50,000 miles. The rear suspension was possibly the next biggest problem. I thought i could get used to it, but eventually had to spend an extra 500€ on top of the already overpriced bike to buy a shock absorber that actually belonged on it. Ultimately it was too late as the love had died. Sadly the love had the last laugh from the grave as when I sold the bike, I lost over 3000€ in depreciation in just 2 years. Otherwise, definitely go for the Honda. 😉

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolute nonsense. You can only put in what you can also take out. Meaning, as long as the stock headers, cat and silencer are installed, the system is exactly as restrictive as it was before. Therefore the same amount of air can be ‚exhausted‘ as before. I could probably use a pair of grannies tights as a filter and with the stock exhaust system it wouldn’t really matter. If you put a complete exhaust system with no cat and a free-flowing silencer on, then a tune is going to be in order.

    Thank You for the video with great detail and information for me to maintain my CB1000R in to the future!
    This is only what I think:(my opinion) with regards to the K&N filters (have used it in my cars in the past), it does more to our physiological desire to believe that it is better than other filters... 1. all fuel injected system are computer controlled so by allowing more air flow does VERY LITTLE if at all as the on board ECU adjusts to what the MAS reads, 2. multiple re-use wise, yes, that is nice, but its filter fabric is gradually degrading after each wash and really NEEDs to be re-oiled properly or that can actually clog the intake system, plus you pay additional $$ for the filter cleaning solution as well as the oil etc...
    Aside from the K&N, I noticed you used 10W40 instead of the 10W30 oil, do you see any significant decrease in fuel mileage consumption at all?
    Regards & Ride Safe!

    Honda seem to like making Air Filter changes erm "interesting". On mine you remove about 1/3 of the fairing, raise the tank then remove 9, yes NINE, screws on the airbox cover.
    On the Yamaha, remove the side panel (3 bolts), then the 4 screws holding the airbox cover!
    I've used Motul full synthetic oil on the Honda and she's now on 198,000 km. Engine's as sweet as a nut.

      I don’t know, but hopefully i can recreate the magic in the next one! German buyers do NOT like home service. If it’s not got a stamp in the book, it didn’t happen. Sad when my experience of the servicing expertise is (somewhat arrogantly) way below where i would put my own. Rock and a hard place!!

    as a fellow CB1KR rider, I'd love to know if the air filter did anything - in terms of performance or sound.

      Not really TBH mate. Maybe a tiny bit of extra induction noise. Nothing on the performance front. But then i don’t think anybody could really feel the alleged 5hp that you ‚might‘ gain! I’ve not had any trouble with K&N so far, but then again the last one i had was on the FZS600!

    Motul is definitely the best oil out there imo. No doubt the semi synthetic is more than good enough for most bikes, but as mine is an old girl now, and I do use it well, I've used Motul 7100 fully synthetic twice now. It made it run a little cooler than whatever was in there when I got the bike which is nice.

    Hi Andy, great to see you working on the bike again. A couple of observations: (1) I too love my Wera Tool-check plus and its slightly bigger sibling, the Zyklop Metric Speed Ratchet Set. Both were gifted to me by my darling wife a couple of years ago, and I believe I got the inspiration from you. (2) When I first realized you can access your air filter without removing the tank as I must do, I was jealous. After witnessing your struggles, however, I think the amount of effort for both is about the same.
    And thanks for asking, I am doing quite well. But how the very devil are YOU?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I too am very well thanks! Yeah it’s a rock and a hard place situation with tank off or sideways struggling! TBH i think I’d prefer tank off! This way, there’s so much pressure and pushing/pulling on all of those cables and hoses, it makes me uneasy! I don’t think Honda planned filter replacement with all the cabling in place 🤦🏻‍♂️ Tabletop engineering!
