    Hi Marco. THIS is the video I was hoping to see! Construction all the way through. I love it when you pop the carbon laminate sheets off your metal work surface and the back side is perfectly smooth. Is the mold for your seat the same one you used before? I am 16 minutes in and the bike is taking shape beautifully. Did you make the front forks from the carbon laminated sheets?
    I am going to continue watching now....great stuff! Thank you so much for sharing.

    • @MarcoRuga
      @MarcoRuga  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, same mold. Front forks partly made form an old fork and partly form those laminated sheets

    What an effort you put into this great project! I ride a standard recumbent and build boats from composites. Some explanations as we go along would make the videos even better.
    I'd love to build a project like yours :-)

    Congratulations on the great job! Is the carbon fiber manufacturing process the same used in Rev Mark? How many layers of carbon fiber do you use in the main tubes and joints?

    • @MarcoRuga
      @MarcoRuga  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, same process. Where I need a strong structure I put 10 layers 200g/mq. It is a 3 mm thickness, more or less

  • @binarumah

    Thanks for sharing Marco. This is indeed a very detailed construction of carbon recumbent. Is that an electrical conduit that you are forming the front boom?

    • @MarcoRuga
      @MarcoRuga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is a PCV plastic pipe

    Hi Marco. What happen if I combine steel bottom bracket with carbon layering? Can it cause galvanic corrosion?

    Hey Marco, that's brilliant, and thank you for sharing!
    I'm working on a design for a recumbent commuter to build this winter, using a similar construction method. It'll be 26" rear wheel & 20" front - basically a copy of Velotechnik's Streetmachine, but in carbon. So I have a few questions that I hope you can answer:
    1. What was your core material - looked like polystyrene? (I'm probably going to use Armacell PET)
    2. I wasn't sure from the video - did you seal the foam with car body filler or epoxy? Or was it left as-is?
    3. Was that a methacrylate structural adhesive you were using to bond the parts before lay-up?
    4. What was the approximate lay-up schedule for that main, horizontal structural beam section?
    5. I'm struggling a bit with my seat design - do you have anything you can share on this for dimensions? (Just seen someone else asking about this - I'm going to see what your reply was.)
    Hope you can help. :0)
    Karl.

    • @MarcoRuga
      @MarcoRuga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1.Yes polistirene
      2. No, it is not car body filler, it is epoxy+technocell:
      www.sorvolandocompositi.it/Technocell-200-conf-1-kg
      3. I use the epoxy+technocell even to glue all the carbon parts
      4. Sorry, I don't undersand the question...
      5. Maybe I can share a schetch of the profile in a future video, it is a "2D" plane seat. I think I have already did in some past videos but I don't remember where and when.

      @@MarcoRuga Good stuff, and thank you for relying so quickly. For Question 4, I'm looking to understand how many layers and which type of carbon cloth you used for the main (horizontal) part of the frame, which is directly under the seat - for example, I watched your seat manufacture video this morning, and saw you used six layers of plain weave cloth, plus extra for high stress areas, and -45º +45º tape over the foam core.

    • @MarcoRuga
      @MarcoRuga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KarlOnSea I used from 8
      to 10 layers of 200 g/mq plain 3k cloth
      www.sorvolandocompositi.it/Tessuto-di-carbonio-GG-200-P-1-mq
      which means 2.5 to 3 mm tickness of carbon.
      You also find all the links to the materials I use in the description of the video.

    Ciao Marco, ho appena notato che hai messo il movimento centrale più alto qui rispetto alla HTH originale. È Per motivi aerodinamici o è collegato al tuo commento sul Recumbent Riders ieri che riguarda l’l’angolazione del bacino? 😊

    • @MarcoRuga
      @MarcoRuga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No semplicemente perché è l'unico modo per rendere la bici compatibile con un'altezza di 1.70 circa.

      Il pezzo di appoggio, con l'invito per il perno è un pezzo che veniva da una vecchia mtb di alluminio, incollato poi e fasciato però si può fare anche in carbonio laminando almeno una quindicina di strati e poi tagliandolo con la giusta sagoma

    Ciao, sono molto interessato a capire meglio come hai fatto per rendere la ruota "lenticolare". Dal video si capisce in parte perchè è velocizzato. Stai usando un adesivo con look carbonio? Alla fine lo stai scaldando? Il risultato mi sembra ottimo, mi piacerebbe farlo alla ruota anteriore da 20 che avevo di serie e che ora non uso così da poter riutilizzare come opzione per le giornate senza vento. Mi potresti dire di più?
