As an owner of 24 abyss black Elantra N, it is a blast to drive. despite being a hyundai, i still find excuses to drive that thing. Prices are more than fair, and the stock exhaust is glorious. For those without a stigma of elantra, there’s a reason why few call it a mini M lite.
I sold my 2023 Elantra N for a 2010 Corvette recently. The Vette's faster in a straight line for sure but it's not as fun and it doesn't even come close to the N in terms of cornering and driver feel.

My sister had a 22 Elantra and traded for a 24, they did so much more than just a facelift. The back seats have more room, the trunk is way bigger, and the interior is so much nicer. We did 2 long trips 2 weekends in a row and it was surprisingly really comfortable. I imagine all this carried over to the N as well on top of all the other N-specific things
as someone in college whos 19. The first car I really want to get my hands on is an elantra N. As you guys said its 100% fun which is whats important to me. Im sure ill also grow out of that mindset but right now the car definitely is perfect for young guys like me who want the best bang for your buck sports car.
I won't be looking for my second car for a while yet, but I am looking for something a little more fun than my Civic and this could be it if it survives on the used market. I would probably go for the N-Line though, a better balance of things.
Absolutely, and finding in my opinion the best compromises between what people want in the base sports car and what people are fine with missing out on in exchange for that lower cost. I used to criticize Hyundai for having so few options, forcing the buyer to move up a tier if there's one thing they had to have, but that strategy definitely keeps the costs low in terms of materials needed to order and keeping assembly lines moving.
This is easily the most exciting, obtainable to the public, car out today, IMO. I never thought I'd consider buying a Hyundai, yet here we are. AND it's got a real e-brake? Take notes, Honda.
@@vrwgq3q why? had Elantra for 3 years now and the only issue it had was a cruise control radar which requires calibration once in a while. Everything else works perfectly
The fact that this car is even close to a Nismo Z time and faster than the last-gen Mustang GT performance shows this remains the best bargain-buy sedan in the world. I wonder if they'll ever make a G70 Performance or something? I know they previewed the Magma series.
Every review of this car is glowing. I want one so bad. I know it's a bargain and I could probably afford the payment but my car is already paid off. I need to get one before it goes away and the used prices shoot up.
Get it! Don't think the price would go up anytime soon, but it's not the point. Got to get it to enjoy it. Screw the depreciation - we only got one life.
It makes me so happy as an Elantra N owner to hear positive things finally being said about Hyundai. The Elantra N really needs to be put on peoples maps.
The biggest changes to the 2024 - front fascia, greater suspension adjustability (goes much softer in softest setting, previous model only had 60% range of suspension adjustability), steering rack bushijg upgrades, forged wheels. You'd definitely notice the suspension changes on the street, makes it a perfect daily. No excuse not to daily it. Also, for the custom n buttons, it was taking a while to change into them because you had traction fully off rather than esc sport(and you're forced to hold it as a safety warning), but normally it's really easy to change through your different n modes. It's really a great setup with a ton of real time adjustability, and something you'd really enjoy if you owned it
I own the PFL and driven the 2024 numerous times. The biggest change for me is the forged wheels. The suspension differences to me were barely noticeable

Can't go wrong with either. I own a Veloster N and have driven the Elantra N. IMO the Veloster is a bit more raw in a good way, has the cool blue seatbelts and a usable hatch. While the Elantra is more refined, a bit faster, has a nicer interior, and the cool rear chassis brace. You really cant go wrong with either one. Both are fantastic.
Don't get the VN get the EN because it has a much nicer and up-to-date interior. People just don't like that quirky looking 3-door and that's why I didn't sell and it was canceled

every time i see this car i get excited for my lease to end in 2 years so i can buy one. one of the only under $40k sports cars left out there, and it has a way more handsome front end now.
Its great to see when company takes positive criticism and deliver better for their customers. Hyundai was criticized in early times but bow look at them. Genesis, ioniq5n, veloster, elantra n and sonata nline. Great bang for your buck❤
I tested that car a year ago just before the refresh, a real pleasure to drive. The DCT is very impressive. The gauge cluster and a few pieces look cheap though. Super roomy in the back and cavernous trunk. Generous guarantee. Front wheel drive which is the minimum configuration in snowy places like Canada. With one or two young kids, that would have been my choice over any suv or suv wannabee.
I have the pre face lift version of this car. Love it so much. I prefer the old look because this one looks a bit too much like other cars on the road. The preface lift one is more polarizing but stands out as more unique. It looks so aggressive when you see one in your rear view mirror.
The facelift hood shut lines by the headlights are all jacked up. They just pretty much abandoned the cut lines that all matched on gen 1 and went generic Jetta. Im a fan of gen 1.
I rented one of these from Turo and had an absolute blast driving it on some twisty roads in the Cascade Mountains. My son and I drove it to an air show and got 34mpg on the highway slog home. I loved my time with it (though my fat butt got tired of the seats after 2 hours - my issue not the car’s). This video reminds me of that experience. When I get my next car in a few years, this will be on my shortlist for sure
I'm LOVIN my 2024 Hyundai Elantra N with the DCT in Cyber Grey. It's my daily fun commuter. Edit: I do wish more youtubers would do more "tests" with the magnificent DCT. I would love to see how much faster or slower the DCT is around the track
Who cares, someone or something is always going to be faster. On the other hand, the manual is just going to be more fun. I don't understand why someone wants a faster economy car knowing any decent sports car will destroy it. Might as well have more fun, give me the third pedal!
@JoshuaTootell The DCT is a blast. The exhaust sounds better when it shifts than with the manual. It's more fuel efficient, which makes more sense for a commuter IMO, faster is more fun, especially when it's more efficient. I have other cars that are manual, so for me the DCT makes more sense. Plus, the DCT gets the NGS over boost button and a sun roof. Here in the US only the DCT comes with the sunroof. Of course there are other faster cars, that's not what my comment was about. Even he said this is his top recommendation. So why not put it up against itself So, to answer you.... I care, that's why I bought it.
@@johnnyturbo8460I’m with you on all points!! I test drove both and prefer the DCT! The exhaust cracks on upshift are just addicting and the manual just doesn’t do that
Yeah, I don't get why people keep testing these cars with antique transmissions. They're inferior by every measure of performance. It's 2024, bring on the DCT.
One thing to note with the EN is octane learning. On a fresh tank of gas and without completing the proper drive cycle, the EN will build 3-4 pounds less boost than when its learned. Its a noticable difference from the drivers seat. Could possibly account for such a big gap between last years and this years. 18-19 pounds once learned otherwise youre getting 14-15 pounds
The My Drive Mode is absolutely confusing and took me about 6 months to realize that I was never in the custom mode I thought I was in. Once you realize it via a message board, reading the manual, seeing it mentioned in a TH-cam review, it's really easy to understand and switch te hoding the correct button. It also does tell you that you are in Sport mode vs My Drive mode. My issue was I thought Normal mode was equivalent to My Drive mode. Definitely not a deal breaker, but that example of some of the complexities is valid. That said, I'll always take more complex vs locked out of certain settings to make Thomas more comfortable with the number of settings.
wait wait wait, so you're telling me that a 35k-ish car is 2 100ths off a type s and type r, and ONLY 4 100THS OFF a M2 COMP!!!!!!! Love the video guys!
Great review, as always. In reference to 2:05: "They know that they're Hyundai." I feel like the more accurate statement would be, "They know how lousy the Hyundai dealership/service experience is." I say this as a former Hyundai owner, and as someone who would probably buy an Elantra N if my current daily driver got totaled: My experience with Hyundai dealerships and service centers was horrendous. That 100,000 mile warranty you get with Hyundai? It isn't worth the paper it's printed on, because getting warranty work done at a Hyundai dealership is about as likely as winning the Powerball. Hyundai has made some of the most attractive and well thought-out driver's cars in recent years (including some of the only electric cars that I'd consider), yet they seem to have no control or oversight over their scumbag-run dealerships. Sport Durst Hyundai, I'm looking at you in particular as the most egregious of the dealerships in a close radius.
It seems that's the story for a lot of enthusiasts. Great cars that have been ruined by poor customer service and crummy dealerships. Apparently it's the same story with some Alfa Giulia QV owners and CT4-V Blackwing owners. The worst part is that such things could lead to potential decline in sales, and eventually the bean-counters see it and think the model is a sales failure and pressure the company to discontinue the model altogether. EDIT: Forgot to mention the soul-crushing dealer markups and artificial scarcity to try and sway buyers to pay more upfront and give the illusion of a hot-seller.
Went to the Nurburgring last year and hired a Hyundai N20, manual box. What a cracking little car! Massive kudos to Hyundai for putting out these affordable, fun, sporty cars

I thought I would be too old for my Kona N. I have been driving twin turbo V8 Benzes. Got in the N, slammed the go pedal, cornered good. Let go of the accelerator bang! bang! bang! Laughed so hard my wallet started opening by itself.
Everytime I take my VN to the track people are amazed at how it handles. I can only imagine with the new updates how well the EN is. Definitely on my list as my next track toy.
I'm a bit like James at the end, I kinda wish Hyundai would do a higher trim version of their N cars. Something like a Caligraphy trim version. Soft napa leather vented seats, a bit less toyish, maybe a genuine comfort mode for the dampers, no wing, 18" wheels with a tad more sidewall.
I'm the opposite. Dying for a Nurburgring edition with cf roof, hood, stripped sound dedening, extra bracing, special "Nurburgring" suspension setting, bigger wing, etc. For six grand extr, count me in.
Starts at 39k in theory. But in all of Toronto theres only 6 for sale with prices ranging from 42k to 47k thats before taxes. In Winnipeg theres only 1 N for sale at 45k while theres bunch of Golf Rs for sale, some of them discounted with price getting awfully close to the Hyundai.Would be amazing deal if they actually sold for MSRP but unfortunately it seems we are not getting many of them in Canada and dealers are jacking up prices
I ordered and I was waiting a 24 Elantra N (in) white to come in (it was about 2 weeks away). Dealer wanted me to test one prior. It was a grey DCT, guess what I went home with? Yep, that DCT. It's faster, includes a sunroof and a push-to-pass-button (another 10hp), makes this was my 64 y.o. bday present and I feel like a kid again! James, you're just to young to realize...nevermind. Triple
Here in Europe we have the i20N (B segment), 204 hp, torsen differential, 6 speed manual. It's a a very interesting car, because while the I30 doesn't shine in speed (Megane Rs and Civic have more hp) and overall interior quality (the 7.5 Golf Gti is much better), the i20 is among the best in the segment (I dare to say the best, if we don't consider the Yaris Gr, that costs, however, much more) now that the Clio Rs isn't made anymore... The Elantra could sell very well in Europe: it costs much less than a regular A sedan amg/Cla amg (they're obviously better, but the difference in the price tag is enormous) or Civic Type R and it's not the regular hatchback
Hyundai has nailed steering since 2015 if not before. My 15 Elantra limited in sport steering feels like my old B5 A4. And i went from the Audi to the Hyundai. It's a joy to take around corners at any speed, especially at the limit. And i'm rarely speeding to smile.
I just took my EN on a canyon run with G80 M3 RWD, F82 M4, and a F10 M5 and they were all struggling to keep up cuz they were just drifting the whole time 😂😂😂. I love this car even more now
I rented one of these with the DCT when my car was in the shop for the week. It's immensely fun as a daily sedan. Is it luxurious? No, the interior bits do feel cheap in many places, the speakers are meh, and it creaked a lot despite being almost brand new. But I didn't care. It's just a ton of fun, performs above its price point, works fine as a daily, and is on par with its competition while costing less than all the others.
I’m almost 40 and I’ve owned many cars in my life. Several BMW M cars, STI, Mustang, Camaro, 370Z, CTR, Golf R, and a few others. I’m not afraid to say this is still the most fun car I’ve ever owned. I got the 24 on a whim and it’s been FANTASTIC. Just a simple ECU tune and I’m handling like 95% of what I come up against on the road. That’s before doing any other performance upgrades to the car.

James I bought one and absolutely love it! Awaiting my high five, sir!

P.s I think james and I are about the same age (im 31) and it hurts a bit when he said "I'm too old for it" 😂. However, I'm glad he will high five me for getting the car haha.

Ok guys... You asked "what now". Here is one for you. Take James' Golf R, upgrade the rear sway bar on it, and put it around the track to test a before and after. It makes such a huge difference in the driving. I would be interested to see what difference it makes in times.
