I bought a 2010 Laguna 5 door with 40000miles at 2 years old. When I told the dealer I do high miles, he told me I'd be mad if I bought a Renault, and tried to sell me a Golf. I ended up selling the Laguna at 180000 miles. It never missed a beat, and never failed an mot. Great cars
I had an 04 plate estate 2ld half leather seats thing it was dynamic trim iirc, really soft leather. I'd guess it was actually real leather. got it at 46k at 4 years old for Renault bury, an ex rep car, that had had a lovely tap from behind, but fixed. For £4k I had that car from 08 to late 15, went all over Europe almost every summer, it had almost 200k on it when I took it to the scrappy. Mechanically it never let me down, but slowy all the electrics started failing, the last 2 years there seemed to be a new electrical issue. Which I never bothered getting fixed by the end. The clutch went so I decided to retire the car. I got £300 for it. It owed me nothing, that car created so many good memories when the family way young. So I never have a bad word for the Laguna. It served me very well. I've never owned a car as long as that one.
I have a 1,9 DCI scenic at 270, OOO km no problems and a 2009 scenic 2,0dci automatic with 145,000 on the clock. The 2ltr DCI is the Renault/ Nissan engine. One of the best they made and if serviced properly will do more than 500,000 kms. living in France we don't pay roadtax only the Toll.
@johnhale4258 it was the 1.9dci that was in my 2004/5 Laguna estate. I could get from North Wales to past Paris on a single tank of fuel if I kept to the speed limits. Good engine that was. Probably all of 110-130bhp and about 300lb ft of torque. That went around Europe a few times. It sadly came to a sticky end, which was my fault 🤦🏼♂️
@@redsidebiker Yeah but they are getting a bite at both ends and its excessive for both seller and certainly the buyers . I've owned a Laguna Coupe Monaco GP for 7 years now. I really love the car, Reliable, well built, comfortable, very economical, 220 bhp diesel so pretty quick too with loads of Torque. They are very underrated and I've seen quite a few with 300-400k miles. Boot is huge for a coupe and with the seats down, its massive. I've lowered mine with spacers which also massively improves the looks, as well as adding a lower lip spoiler and black front grille (on my white car) to improve the front end. Full leather interior helps give the interior a real lift too. They are super cheap to buy because everybody hates Renaults but they don't know what they are missing. Better than most modern junk.
That car has future classic written all over it. Whoever buys it will almost certainly be buying it because of what it is, and not just a runaround. I think you are underselling at £2495, I wouldn't qualm at £2750, I've always fancied one of those.
I remember when these were new, I was travelling down the A1 with my Dad when one overtook us, we were both stunned, and couldn't work out what it was, and both assumed it was a new Aston. We were even more stunned as traffic slowed and we came up behind it, and saw the Renault badge.
I had a similar experience driving in the French alps We saw a Laguna Coupe and an Alfa GT for the first time, different enough to make you notice. I still like the looks of both of them.
Loved the prelude with the rear wheel steering , had one on a G reg in red , the paint went flat as all reds did in those days , but a real head turner of a car
Fewer electrical problems than a recent Merc / BMW. I've had my 2015 Megane RS since nearly new. Admittedly it's only done 71k miles but I've had no issues other than a dead battery at 7 years.
I ran a Clio 182 for 8 years only problem in that time was broken coil spring and leaky shock , both easily and cheaply fixed . I had a Merc 350 cls and that had a few whoopsies , worst was £1000 for a new headlight.
Had 2002 Laguna v6 wagon till written off in a crash and overall it was excellent reliability... Biggest problem I had was stupid lightweight seat connection on left passenger side.. Constant airbag light problem until I zip tied it hard together. Great economy for a 3 litre.
I own a 2006 Laguna, despite the reliability issues, of which there has been very few, I think it's the coolest looking and most interesting Car I've owned.
I’ve been looking at these cars for a few years now. I’m so glad you got one on the channel for your honest opinion of them. I think they look great, especially in white
I think it is a good-looking car. My friend at work has one, he has owned it for a few years now. Really glad you saved it, the new owner will enjoy it. Have a great week Matt.
Great looking car, Renault have made some interesting cars over the years. Poor reputation for quality holds them back but I've had two very reliable Renault cars. Thanks for a great video
The most underrated car and so well put together!!! Had one 8 years and only minor suspension issues. These cars only have very few known reliability issues.
Great to see the follow up video to your auction buy, My mate has got one of these with the 3.0 V6 diesel engine with the optional 4 wheel steering system and he absolutely loves it. Gotta admit, it is a nice looking car. Thanks for the update Matt, great video as always.
I've got a really rare (rarer than hens teeth!) 2010 3.0 V6 diesel auto in black with beige leather interior and it's brilliant with 450nm of torque - had mine since 2015 so 9 years and counting... and by the way the 4 control steering was standard not an option on all "GT" versions
I have one of these the same age (2011) in white as a daily with the same engine. And with it being a Renault all the parts are a cheap enough. I had mine for over 2 years at the point and it's been a good daily. I'd like to try a 3.5 V6 as I bet it shifts, the 2.0 is pretty quick already!
I am a BIG Renault fanboy, all i ever buy is Renault. My mate has 3.5L V6 petrol and is well modded, awesome car. Been buying them for nearly 30 years and no horror stories, hardly ever an issue with any model. My old left hand drive Clio diesel (bought in France) from the early 90's has well over 300k miles on it and still going strong. F*cking love that car.
Absolute same here! My family has been loyal to Renault for 4 to 5 decades now. Easy to say, I suppose, as we are French and undeniably pro-Renault. But honestly, we wouldn’t consider switching to another car brand (German or like). In over 40 years of owning Renault vehicles, we have never encountered any issues. As for me, I currently own a 2019 Renault Alaskan (basically a rebadged Nissan Frontier to be fair) and a 1963 Renault Caravelle (a beauty this one, trust me). Both run like clockwork as we say in French.
That makes two of us then.I had 1999 laguna mk1 18 rxe for 12 years. Fantastic motor. Have a 21 year old clio 2 for 15 years, cant see me selling it anytime soon, and i have 2010 laguna mk3 2.0 dci auto with 158000 on the clock which has been a real peach for nearly 11 years now. I am quite a fan too i suppose.
We had loads of Renaults in the family and they were all really reliable. Ok yeah occasional electric stuff but nothing mayor to leave you stranded. Had some of the other cars too but honestly, Renaults have been the most reliable. Currently we have 508 II, Clio IV and I drive Mazda 3 2020 and the least problematic is the oldest Clio.
I'm a mega Clio fan too, such a nice car compared to other hatchbacks, but my MK4 was a complete headache and not particularly reliable. I had it 6 years and was so attached to it but I don't miss the constant trips to the garage
Lovely, tres bon! That is, or will be soon, a modern classic, so stylish, and so rare. Of course, BMW owners get shivers at the thought of a French car, but when were BMWs last stylish and rare...?
They actually did make a 3.0 V6 petrol version. But good luck trying to find a good one now! Also, yes it does look a bit like an Aston Martin from the back.
Honestly, the Laguna coupe looks super nice and the interior as well in more high spec models. I wouldnt mind one and looks so cool and clean as a first car! : D Great video Matt!
Haha I was about to type "If you squint, it looks a bit like an Aston", then you said it. Renault have made some cracking looking motors over the years.
Gorgeous car, best looking Renault for ages. I wish the industry did more like this instead of shite me-too suvs. I know they'll say well , you never bought them when we did
I have one, a 2009 base model, 2.0 diesel and 117,000 miles. Interior is a bit rattly but other than that its great, never had any issues with it. Mines is lowered, had a short shifter fitted and only one known previous accident.
That navi is Tomtom with new card you have 2024 maps and are pretty good. And that 2.0dci is great diesel engine - go easily 500.000km+. Bad side: it is pretty stiff not a typical france car drives more like Audi a4.
I owned the same car in hatch form from 2016 to 2023. The 2.0dci engine is superb. Most reliable car I have ever owned. With mine you didn't need to put the keycard in the slot. It recognised it without the need. Locking and unlocking was also automatic.
I love these coupes, very good looking car. Just an observation on a lot of your videos, your mechanic is a bit heavy on the pen, when you compare the work that Jimmy the magician does, glws
The back end definitely looks like an Aston. Its the small rear wing that sort of goes up and comes down again. Very Aston Martin like. Also looks like a merc and a peugeot 407 depending on how you look at it
Oh yes, a Renault! I'm a big Renault fan boy, soon as I saw this I had to watch this! I like the look of this car. I've currently got a Mk4 Renault Megane RS parked up in the garage as my weekend toy!!!
Just my opinion Matt but I wonder if your viewers would find it interesting if a follow up video on the cars you feature regarding how long they take to sell and maybe even what exactly you sold them for ie.did the customer manage to get some off the asking price..Great channel pal..
Tom Ford on 5th Gear said it looked like an Aston Martin. I had a new Laguna Dynamic four door saloon on an 11 plate. Put 50,000 miles on it. Really good car, great engine
One of my favourite Renaults. They always come up with a curve ball here and there and this was one amongst all their other drab offerings at that time.
Yeah, My first car, back in 2018 or so i was told by a Renault dealer they only sold 27 of the Nissan 3.5 V6 petrol RHD in the UK (that i had) (P.S It was the same variant that is in the vel satis) , the diesels are most of what you see, there is a 2.0T petrol as well IIRC and a lot of people quite liked that, most of these cars were well built overall and of course there was a trademark "French squeak" somewhere. Honestly its nice, but other than looking like an aston martin from temu, there isnt much to say, its just good, the 3.5 had loads of torque but was also weighty, i managed to spin the front wheels with the dodgy tires i had at most traffic lights and feel like an arse, slap some cheap hankooks on there and its a really nimble car, handles more like a 208gti but a bit floppy due to weight. Only reason i swapped it rather early was due to noticing parts were not too common either.
10:16 I hate that question. "What have you bought that for?" Because I wanted it, it's none of your business. The front can look odd from certain angles, but that's part of the character, but the side and rear is very pretty. Apparently they did give the 3.5 V6 from the Vel Satis. I bet that's a very lovely little GT!
just want to say a big thank you to you, bought my first car today taking into consideration your advice. I always watch your videos, pls keep on recording these awesome videos for folks like myself
The electric hand brake is absolutely superb, you don't need to press the button to release it, release the clutch to biting point, slight touch on accelerator and it releases automatically,i never pressed the button to release it over the 3 years i owned the car,and there was absolutely no problems with the hand brake. And i didn't have any problems with the key card either and car was a bit over 100k miles
Thanks Matt for your as ever subtle knocking of French cars. This helps keep the second hand prices nice and low; enabling people like me to pick them up for a song. I currently have an 18 plate Renault Koleos and in over two years not a single complaint about it. One of many in a long run of excellent French cars on a shoestring. Keep up the knocking 😜
I still have mine. First one bought in Romania. August 2009. Yes, 15+ years. I didn't drive it as a daily, so it only has 122k KM (75k miles). It's full leather, automatic xenon adaptive headlights, full keyless, automatic hand break, and many other extras (actually I checked every single option besides the automatic gear box). 2.0 DCI 180hp. Magnificent car, did quite a few long trips across europe. Very comfortable, even after installing lower Eibach springs and spacers. 0 problems - but I did the full service every year at the Renault dealership.
Had my 2011 Laguna Coupe for over 3 years now. Less than 60000 on the clock when I bought it and under 80000 on it now and not a problem apart from perishables. I f*cking love it. Just a shame that pretty much only the Germans still do 2 door coupes. Not sure what I'll do when the time comes to get rid.
I was about to say to myself it looks a bit Aston Martin'ish... I too have always liked these. My late dad's last two brand new cars were Laguna's - both exclusive(?) or was it privilege (top spec) with the leather and wood trim interior, one a V6 and the other a 2.0. I inherited the 2.0 which was a good car (better than the V6 actually) and I probably should have kept it. I chopped it in for a Passat CC...
Yes back in the car park again wish all your videos were done here like the early ones Also good to see the wonder grip van again And your Spanish This is like a classic video 😂
Lovely car Matt, can you try and do a video on a Peugeot 407 Coupe, I think some of the French coupes are great looking cars and not something you see every day. Thanks.
I vividly remember seeing this at a motor show, and falling in love with the looks, and the inevitable Renault rep there trying to convince you that it was the best thing since sliced bread from them. Since then I never saw a single one on the roads, instead it looks like it’s France’s equivalent to the depreciation disaster that the VW Phaeton was for Germany. It can only have been an ex company car with this kind of spec and appeal, if it’s ended up at an auction. It’s usually where the special stuff ends up at a steeply marked down price, that only a select few would entertain as a purchase. It’s a shame that this is how it is, in the car world. On the flip side though, whatever is one man’s loss will be another man’s gain, I guess.
For what my opinion is worth Matt, I was saying £3495 for that Laguna all day long. Yes it's an 11 plate with mileage but that's a great looking car and I think a bargain for under 3 and a half grand.
I agree with the Aston Martin rear and and if you squint a little the front end is also a little AM, with the big silver grille. Mum and dad had a Laguna around this age, it was a 2.2 150ps DCI Estate, went well and was faultless.
Great cars

Must say, In my opinion, car auctions charging fees to both buyers and sellers is the scam of a lifetime.
And the fees are not cheap. In this case 25% of the car !!
How do the auction houses stay in business if they do not make these charges? They have business bills & staff bills to pay. Simple if you think
How did you work those running costs out?

Yes, they did build this with the 3.5 litre V6. Also with a 3.0 V6 diesel

I've been coincidentally looking at one of these on auto trader and seem impressive. Monaco model seems very nice
Tom Ford on 5th Gear said it looked like an Aston Martin.
I had a new Laguna Dynamic four door saloon on an 11 plate. Put 50,000 miles on it. Really good car, great engine
What a cool quirky car. I've never seen one of these in-depth before, looks great!
One of my favourite Renaults. They always come up with a curve ball here and there and this was one amongst all their other drab offerings at that time.
Thank you for that Will Young cover of "What is love". Lovely smooth cover.
It’s really good isn’t it. It was the first time I actually listened to the words
Lovely looking car - I've never knew they existed. great video. PS in the 80's I has 3 Renault 5 GT Turbos! Fun Fun Fun
Bet you wish you still had them 😂
Another great video Matt, love the car, another quirky unicorn saved.👍 You need a ds5 next! 😉
Had a Laguna 2.2 turbo 6 speed and it was awesome great on motorway and round town . So i like the coupe looks very nice well worth your asking price.
I really do like this era of Laguna - such a good looking car
Great looking car! Nicely prepared and ready to go.
Great looking car - much better than the current “80s casette deck design” car.
The Laguna Coupe is still a great looking car.
just want to say a big thank you to you, bought my first car today taking into consideration your advice. I always watch your videos, pls keep on recording these awesome videos for folks like myself
I feel Matt's channel will naturally evolve into a restoration channel. That would be great to watch! Matt rescuing sad cars for an attempted profit!
What a channel that would be! Used to love Top Gear but this has softened the blow of its demise…
Should restore the wonder grip van in that car park that's almost as famous now as well 😂
It could be called 'Wheeler Dealers', or 'Car SOS'.
Looks a smart car,and not your boring SUV,I agree the rear is the best, but the overall profile is nice.
I seen the launch of this car in Birmingham
And same thought passed my mind about it looking very similar to Aston Martin 😊
Must be my OCD Matt, but those rusty wheel nuts just have to go!! Great job as usual. ❤
I think thats a great looking car , first thing I thought when i seen the back end was astin Martin, id have it in a heart beat
I bought a Peugeot once and only once, nuff said 😂
That might be because the Koleos is made by Samsung in South Korea......
Cheap cars are cheap, expensive cars are not, this Renault Laguna Coupe is quite good quality and is fine.
Koleos are another underrated car imo. Very few about but they always catch my eye when I see one.
The first shot of of it's arse-end I thought Aston Martin too.
I thought it was a merc
@@Neruqi agree, looks like C class coupe
@@NA-dg3jxagreed more Merc coupe than Aston Martin for sure 👍👍
Unless you know what a Renault badge looks like.
Mat you have got another good looking car back to mint condition . Well done
"mint" is an overworked description for any vehicle of that age!
Really nice looking car, and I'm guessing wonderfully comfy on a long distance ride out.
Yes back in the car park again wish all your videos were done here like the early ones
Also good to see the wonder grip van again
And your Spanish
This is like a classic video 😂
Always liked the look of the Laguna Coupe. And I've had Renaults before, so I know what to expect..
Lovely car Matt, can you try and do a video on a Peugeot 407 Coupe, I think some of the French coupes are great looking cars and not something you see every day. Thanks.
He,s done one
He did one a couple of months ago
İt looks good , nice looking renault for a change ,well done.
Definitely share your enthusiasm for the quirky Laguna Coupe, I really like it, great content as usual 👍
agreed, I remember seeing these in dealers in 2011 and thinking thats a bit aston martin
Will young??...
That's a nice looking car!
Great video Matt. You're right on the back end of the car looking great, I actually thought this was a Merc for a second when I saw the thumbnail.
I like the look of this , stylish 👍🏻👍🏻
Pretty pretty car, an RS version would be mega
As someone who likes both the old DB9 & Vantage, and the A5 coupe. I totally see the comparison you made with those cars.
Looks like a shrunken Ford Cougar from the side but I do agree with the Aston Martin resemblance at the rear with those wide haunches. Nice work!
For what my opinion is worth Matt, I was saying £3495 for that Laguna all day long. Yes it's an 11 plate with mileage but that's a great looking car and I think a bargain for under 3 and a half grand.
With 150k miles? 😂🤫
Yep - you have made that car look amazing .
Best Car I have ever bought, got a GT 2.0 180, parts can be expensive but other than that i love my Laguna Coupe. really enjoyed the vid :)
I agree with the Aston Martin rear and and if you squint a little the front end is also a little AM, with the big silver grille. Mum and dad had a Laguna around this age, it was a 2.2 150ps DCI Estate, went well and was faultless.
