Great stuff!!..I love all the triplet stickings from your other videos..At 73,my studies, teaching, and performing over 60+ years,I've done a lot of odd groupings....Ed Shaughnessy and Jim Chapin both had me working my hands in a ton of unusual stickings....I'm teaching these things to my younger students..We did not have any social media when I came up...We had records...Thanx for all you do...Keep it going.
Great licks here! Thank you for this. Looking forward to more things to come from you. Great sound and articulation/ideas. Keep us posted if you're ever playing in LA. Also what is that ride? Loving those cymbals;)
Great stuff - nice to have a real working pro sharing stuff on youtube! A digression of sorts, but what's the best way of freeing up your timekeeping on the high-hat? I find it difficult to keep a strong 4-4 on the high-hat when e.g. doing patterns in three that run over the bar line. It's the balance that gets me I think...
I used to have balance problems; I felt like I was falling backwards while doing stuff like RLK. That really messed up my timing a lot. Try sitting more on the front of your drum throne, it really worked for me! I also agree with Larry Tate -- you need to KNOW how this 3/16 pattern moves in relation to the pulse.
Yup thanks. It resets after three bars. I agree too it is good to sit toward the front part of your throne. Also practice keeping time with your left foot on quarter or eight notes can help you stay centered. It’s difficult and takes a bit of time to get the independence but it will give you an extra tool for time keeping once you get it.
Da Bx : Yep you’re right but the pattern Louie demonstrates has only one double stroke ( ll). That means that the singles can be more spread out over the toms than the pattern you prefer (me too). So I master the two patterns now. But thanks to you as well. Grts from Europe
Awesome Louie !!!
Impeccable playing ... very clean. I've just discovered a gem in the drumming world. I'm now a huge fan ...

The sticking on the last one is RLLRLRLRLRRL? ..So many combinations in triplets alone is endless...love that one.
Just love this guy and playing traditional gives this such a smooth sounding quality
woooooow.... that rolling feel with that gretsch sound .... this is really well chosen drumset

+tdrum21 Thanks...the ride is a 22" Artisan Light Ride.
Wow. It's like someone comes up to you, gives you the real entrance keys to Fort Knox and says: Go and try them, you may find something you like.

Got to see where each note lines up for 3 bars. Then that always repeats those 3 bars.

Im digging a lot your videos, thanks Louie!
How long did it take you to master the sticking and then speed up.
Excelente aporte.Saludos desde Chile!
Great player, great lesson!
Amazing!!
Great! Btw, these Gretch sound so much better than the Pearls.
Louie P the TRIPLET MASTER!
SMOOTH!
can you write the score of the sticking in the snare?
+Alexander Ommidvar Ortiz You can find the transcription in the members area at playbetterdrums.com
Nice, drums sound rly good. Are those the audix D series mics?
+Larry Tate Audix D2's, D4's and D6, yes.
Nice. Can u tell me what snare you were using here
Gretsch USA 14x5.5 (maple)
Quality!
That Pro Drum Head!;)
It's so cool,....
Why not play it as:
RllrrLRll
I found that much easier to play and it’s still a grouping of 9. RlrllRLrl seemed very awkward to play for me.

Yeah it’s mainly to be able to place more accents with the singles without having to think about possibly accenting a second double at high speed ;)
