Brilliant stuff. I've always used handbrake to add the SRT/ASS but then it takes ages as its re-encoding and the file size gets small, probably losing quality too. This is way faster. I'll have to try it. I'll also take a butchers at your Handbrake vids just to see if there's anything else you can teach me.
So I followed your guide, popping in one SRT basic white and one coloured yellow and formatted it to ASS in subtitle edit. I had hope the program would be able to read the script of the ASS file to mux the coloured subs into the new MKV when muxed. But it didn't. Both subs are white. I've been looking around seeing if there's an option to change the subs colour but I couldn't see any. Only tsMuxeR GUI makes you select which colour subs you want when making a blu ray/AVCHD. So is there another program like MKVtoolNix GUI that let's you change the subs colour David?

Hi David, thank you for your tutorial. I wanted to add a .chs.srt subtitle file to a .mkv file and followed every illustrated steps. (the .chs.srt file automatically changed to .chs.srt.ass file when uploaded) The subtitle addition failed although a new .mkv file was generated. I am using Windows Media Player. What could have been done wrongly ?
