- How To Bulk Remove Subtitle and Audio tracks with MKVToolNix GUI
Pick whether you want subs or not, what language audio tracks you want to keep and then easily batch convert any number of files in a few clicks all in the GUI! Once the preferences are all set-up it's super easy to do this all in the GUI without really thinking.
No command line, no manual operations for each video file.
For that pesky "(1)" in the filename you can use PowerRename in Windows to do it. Either that or have a destination folder separate from the source for your output so that you can just quickly move them back without having to rename them. Honestly that's much easier.
Actually goated content, everytime ive search in reddit and forums they tell me i cant do it and that i need to download some program, this is great
Just wanted to say thank you for a really helpful guide, this is exactly what I was looking for! Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate! Glad this was what you were looking for (:
Basic instructions, yet perfectly delivered. Exactly what I was looking for to setup my plex library without all that extra junk. Thank you sir!
For anyone looking for settings for subtitled anime, here are my settings that worked to only keep Japanese audio and the subtitle track(s). In my "Selected by Type" section, I have Audio, Chapters, Video and Subtitles only. I have the "Only enable copying" checkbox checked. I only have Video and Subtitles checked for the "Always enable copying" checkboxes. In the "Selected" language box, I have Japanese (ja:jpn) and Undetermined (und).
Thank you sir!
I was doing the same thing you are to save memory on my hard drive, as 1 or 2 series can shave off a solid 10gb each, but was doing it all by hand and was getting sick of how long it was taking.
This was a godsend!
Brilliant - well explained. Thank you for taking the time to record and upload this tutorial.
Thanks for such a great video. This will save me so much time dicking around with individual files in MKVToolNix GUI. Really clear instructions, and a great demo of how to do this, Brilliant!
Thanks mate, glad it was helpful. Appreciate the feedback! Yeah, screw doing individual files. That was the exact thought process I had, couldn't find a good tutorial either so thought I'd figure it out and make one :D.
Straight to the point, explains each step and what it does, very clear.
Cheers champion
u just saved my ssd about 1.5tb of space since im was not gonna go thru all the episode of all the shows thank you
Super helpful, thank you for this clear and to the point video :) (I never knew there even were "actions for all tabs", that alone will save me HOURS in the future!)
Wahey, thanks mate! Glad it was so helpful. I felt a similar way upon discovering that feature, it was so slow manually doing all the tabs!
This video is exactly what I wanted to do. Thanks buddy 👽
Great stuff, glad I could help!
You are a golden egg! Tysm 😭
Thank you kindly! I wish there was also a way to choose a specific audio language and subtitle language individually.
This will save me so much time! Thanks for the awesome tutorial man.
Eyyy nice one man! Glad it was useful. Enjoy the shows :D.
Man you save me so much time, thank you so much! Also amazing tutorial
Happy to help! Thanks for the feedback man. Glad you enjoyed it so much (:
Is very well explain but I have a question. how can I just keep the english subtitles when is different kind of language subtitles?
Great guide thanks, just wish I can figure out how to get the truenas scale version working
I don't use true nas sorry, so can't be much help!
Very good video, Unfortunately I would like Signs and songs subtitles to always be selected but all other subs not included. I'll keep looking.
Very useful video. I was looking for it. Thank you!
my subtitles and the audio files i want that i have set in the preferences are not being selected.
I'm still trying to figure out how to cut out a selected timestamp on a movie, and I can't seem to find a video to show me. I'm using v. 84
This should really help out with all those 20+ audio/subtitle language files. All I care about is original language and english.
how to batch set a default audio or subtitle ? Thank you
Doesn't look like that can be done in bulk in the GUI sorry mate! Probably need to do it manually file by file, or use command line.
This was super helpful. Thank you
Thanks. You saved me a lot of time!
Is there a way to change it so English is default instead of removing the other languages completely? I know you can do it individually, but i wanted to ask if there was a global setting you can select.
Thank you. Worked great.
This works great, But when i put the file into an editing software it has no audio tracks. anyway to fix that? Pretty sure its cuz of the audio codec not being supported.
Is there a way to have the file title (output) to automatically be taken from the filename? I've already used Filebot to make the filenames tidy and would like the title displayed when played to be tidy also. I know you can go into the output of each job and use CTRL+F, which replaces the file title with the filename but I can't work out a way to automate it.
Simple, easy, informative. Thank you!
Thanks for the wonderful video! Does this do anything to the original file quality? I am assuming this does a re-encode? and/or just copies all codec without changes? I am just learning this tool now, and couldn't find it in the docs haha.
As far as I know it doesn't do any encoding. It is like unzipping a MKV and then zipping it again into a MKV but without some of the tracks
Cool, but for what you wanted it to do, it's totally not necessary at least with MPC-HD, where I just set English to be my preferred language so it always plays the english track even if the japanese is the default one, and you can just press W which disables all subs.
Deleting all subs is supremely stupid because there is a type of subtitle called Sings & Songs (S&S), if you delete that you will have NO clue as to what the on screen text is saying, of course not all anime have on screen text, but at least half do.
What I'm here for, is how to change the default subs to S&S instead of the Full subs and I don't know if I can do that your way.
Thank You. I use a Zidoo Player that always plays subtitles by default from now on i can process the files so it doesn't happen.
You're very welcome! I had a very similar problem, which is why I figured this method out haha.
This helped me so much but I ran into an issue. With some anime I wanted to remove multi audios, it started renaming the new files something completely different and in some cases deleting files . I have no idea whats causing it or how to stop it. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Good video has some episodes my kids watch that kept defaulting to Spanish audio and i had to change it every 10 mins on Emby
Thanks for the feedback! It's a pain when that happens isn't it! Glad things are running smoother now.
mine is loading them all in the same tab it, when i start multiplexing it only produces 1 file with like 70 tracks
fixed it with drag and drop and not using add source files, also didn't have the same interface as you
When Dropping Files : Create one new multiplex setting
was what mine said instead of when adding files
Why would you remove the "signs and songs" sub tracks though? On screen text is regularly an important part of the story. If I had removed that particular sub track from "Your Name," I'd have never know what was written in the notebook.
You are free to remove or keep whichever tracks you want my friend. I just gave an example configuration, of how to bulk remove, and explained what I was doing. If that isn't what you want to do, perhaps this isn't the right tutorial for you unfortunately.
Can I add subs in bulk way too?
It works very well, but I came across with animes that has 2 English audio tracks. One has Ocean Production and a Sunrise, how do I auto filter out Sunrise?
This is the only method I am aware of for bulk in GUI, sorry. No way to distinguish between the two with this method that I'm aware of. Let us know if you find a way though!
you're genius brother, you got my problem thank you, you earned a sub !!!
Thanks my dude! Glad it was what you were looking for. Took me a fair bit of time to figure out to solve my problem originally xD.
@@i-Tutorials Brother I have a question Suppose I have 2 video files one with eng audio and another same video file with Spanish audio, videos are same but with different audio, I want to multi audio the same file, is it possible in mkvtoolnix or other free software?? And if you could tell you instagram 🫠?
Friggin hero! thank you
You rock, thanks! I do have a question. I want to remove all subtitles unless they are English forced over foreign dialog. Is there an option for that? I didn't see it in the settings. Thanks.
Thanks mate! I don't believe there is an easy option for that. I bumped into a similar problem actually.
What I ended up doing was finding the English over foreign audio sub tracks online and downloading them. I then stripped all sub tracks using the method in this video, followed by manually adding the correct sub track to each episode (each multiplexer tab) before multiplexing all tabs. A bit more of a manual process unfortunately, but it works.
Hope that helps. Lmk if you find a better way though!
Thank you SO much man!
thanks it was very helpful!
Wow, i found this after wanting to watch Doremi and deleting the annoying defaulted song subs, but that was only after giving up on specifically Azumanga Daiyoh cause i couldn't find a japanese subtitle track for it, where'd you get those?? all the Japanese tracks i get for azumanga seem to be corrupted when trying to play.
Also this did seem like it was what i needed but i still am running into the issue of having to delete a subtitle track with a specific name, i'm not trying to get rid of all subs from the file, just the english + subtitle ones, it's called like "English [with songs]" any way to get rid of just the ones with non-standard names in bulk?
Not that I know of sorry mate, only figured out how to remove them based on language. You could always web search for sub tracks, bulk remove all tracks, then manually add the correct tracks back in. But it can be impossible to find sub tracks for some stuff. Sorry I couldn't help you automate it more.
thnx anime content has too much sub and audio content and one ends up with a 1gb episode of a anime, consulted reddit and they said get this app but didnt clarify how it works thnx for explaining.
Using mkvtoolnix doesn't re-encode/cause quality loss, right?
What I do in this tutorial won't affect the video track at all, only working with sub tracks in the container. So no video re-encode and no quality affected for sure.
thank you so much
thx man !
Nice, helped me a lot 🙂
Glad to hear it! Thanks for the comment (:
Thank you!!!!!
Thanks. This is perfect.
You're welcome! Appreciate the feedback (:
Grat tutorial!! Thanks!!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful.
god damn thank you !!!!
Thanks a lot (:
Too bad your resolution is way too high.
Could you explain further please? TH-cam lets you lower the resolution of the video whilst watching, so I'm not too sure what the problem is.
@@i-Tutorials Your screen resolution, I think. So it looks a bit tiny, I think that's it
@@ARMarTy_I actually zoom in to fill the screen most of the time whilst doing settings / clicking.
It's only a few generic speaking sections where it's zoomed out and tiny. Once it's zoomed in, I can even read the words fine on my tiny phone screen with the video full screen.
Maybe give it another try?start at 1:04 for zoom 😊
