To adjust the ISO (for manual mode) in the D3300 without fooling with the menu - hold the "Fn" button and adjust with the dial. Saves a lot of time.

Yeah, bad button placement, but it does have it and its better than not having it at all.

wouldn't say it's that bad, just needs a tad of getting used to.

Not really. You can adjust it quickly with your left thumb while you are holding the camera properly.

I also totally love D3300 Nikon, its about 3-4 years old but just recently with my 18-200mm lens which is my favorite go to lens started flickering in TTL view and you can hear it slightly, picture comes out good but I know it isn't right, doesn't happen on my wide lens 10-20mm. Any suggestions ? Rich

I think NIkon d3300 is a great camera! With a lot of extras for professional camera, and all cons that you said are not such a big deal and you can make great great shots without them too. Just one problem for me, the dust inside the view finder. I don't know how it's getting inside, but I have a lot(it's not affecting your image quality and now I even doesn't pay attention on it). :>

Excellent video with great points. Just stepping into a 7100 today after shooting a 3100 & 3300 for several years. Looking forward to the better grip and control layout.

Very informative video, Matt. Thanks for sharing your insights! I'm using a D3300 for six years now. Overall, a great camera indeed. However, lately I've been shooting quite a lot in low light, great fun and I expect to do this more often. Focusing has proven to be a bit of an issue here. Hence I'm considering an upgrade to the D7500 right now, main points I expect to be an improvement are the autofocusing system, flip screen, Expeed 5 vs 4 and different handling (dedicated butons). I'm curious what other people have to say regarding these considerations. Cheers, Rob.

Very helpful video! I prefer to shoot natural light when possible and the extra af in lower light is huge for me. Trying to explain the intricacies in these small things to me to my husband to justify the d7200 was easy with your explanation. Thanks!

I would throw in High-speed sync. The shutter is limited to 1/250 and not 250+ as in higher models. Excellent picture quality no doubt about that, love this camera I have taken professional pics with this one.

Pretty sure I have used the on camera flash as a commander for some off camera speedlights before, just need to go through the settings and take it off TTL mode

You left out number 15 you dont get . . . . into debt when buying the D3300 compared to higher end Nikons :-) Great video man I am shooting the D3300 and I have some street photography vids and I am using my channel to document my return to photography after a 12yr break maybe take a peek if you are passing and your feedback would be gratefully received. Sending Love from Ireland and thanks for the video - Sean

Well i finally got the camera with the new AF-P 18-55 VR lens which autofocuses when u tap for focus but u can override that by just adjusting the focus ring. It's my first dslr but i 'm hyped as i always took photos from a phone or a gopro and as i 'm watching the channel for a while and i 've jumped straight into manual mode. I gotta admit its not that hard not having dedicated button for iso or aperture toggling some extra buttons to do the trick is fine for me. Also u dont have to go to the menu to adjust the iso ........... :) toggle the button underneath the one for flash and adjust the main dial !

Georgio Geo do you recommend this camera for recording videos
i want to buy my first DSLR camera and I am thinking about this with af-p vr kit lens or d3200 with af-s vr2 kit lens
      which one should I buy?

Do you know if you can use the same lenses from the D3300 to a D5000 series or D7000 series?

  • @jacobshear1104
    @jacobshear1104 7 ปีที่แล้ว

You can switch the iso by using the dial and the fn button in the front

I'm going to buy the d7200 soon, but I dont know which lens/lenses should I buy with it. And I have a limited budget. I'm interested in prime lenses more than the zoom ones. But a zoom lens would be great for many situations, that's why I can't decide.

If I was to upgrade from Nikon D3300 for better image quality, should I go for Nikon D7100?

  • @tronkel1

Very informative as always. I'm an advanced hobbyist Canon user at the moment, but at some point, when I can justify the cost, I'll have a dabble with the Nikon DSLR range as well. I already own a little Nikon P7800 point and shoot that has excellent image quality (at only 12 MP).
There are all sorts of reports on the net that Nikon DSLRs deliver sharper images than the Canon does. I have 2 Canon DSLRs 700D and a 7D Mk 1. Maybe this is to do with in-camera processing of JPEGs? I personally have no problem with image sharpness from either Canon DSLR in either RAW or JPEG format. I post-process both types of image in Darktable (a GNU/Linux workflow piece of software - fantastically useful!)
It would make a great video if you could compare say, the Nikon D3300 against the T6i in both RAW and JPEG. You could do it simply with one image from each camera (RAW and JPEG) and using equivalent optics (Canon Nifty-Fifty and the Nikon 50mm 1.8G say).
Same comparison side-by side test using Fuji and Lumix would also be interesting.
Maybe there is a difference between the 2 manufacturers, but my old eyes might not be able to detect this.

    • @ArtoftheImage
      @ArtoftheImage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+tronkel1 Thanks for the suggestion. The D5500 is more directly comparable to the T6i though. Your idea to compare similar cameras with their respective 50mm standard fast primes is a good one, and one I've been thinking about for a bit. I just have to purchase the Canon 50mm f1.8 STM and perhaps the Fuji 50 equivalent.
Regarding the sharpness, the Nikon's have more resolution which will make images appear sharper, plus cameras like the D7200 have no optical low pass filter which will make them sharper.

Thank you for your videos. I have been watching them to decide which camera to buy. I have a question about the old lenses that you talk about. At 2:18 you mention that the old lenses can be used manually on the d5500, because there is no motor to drive it. My question is, does that remove the option of using the 39 point focus thing on the screen? I have never used a manual focus before but that is why i am getting a better camera. I want to learn, even if it is not easy. Thank you.

FYI My D3400 does not work in manual mode with some older Nikon lenses. Show as error signal.

Hello, thank you for the videos they have been very insightful for me, but I did of course have a question too. I own the Nikon d3300 with a few lens and was looking to upgrade from here. I mostly shoot landscapes with a few portraits or sports thrown in. I wanted to know what would be a worthy upgrade from here because in low light this camera is not fantastic and just the image quality for a few prints I have had are just not all the way there. Any recommendations would be helpful and I am even somewhat open minded to moving to canon if you really thought it would be wise. Thank you!

Hey, I use the same camera even though I learn towards street and nature photography. When you want to take pictures of architecture and buildings it more or less boils down to the lens you're using. I'd recommend using prime lens as they are sharp as hell.

Hi Matt. Great video as usual! Can you make a video about the D500 specs vs the Panasonic GH4? I currently have a D300 and a couple of telephoto Nikon lenses. I use it equally for video and stills. Will be planning on buying a Nikon 24-70 f2.8 soon. Before the D500 came out, I was planning on just getting a GH4 with metabones but now I don't know. I would love your opinion on it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's eyeing this new Nikon over the GH4.
    Thank you Matt!

Hey buddy how are you, I like your videos
and refer to them quite often. I have an a6300 and noticed that my buddy gets better low light pictures and gets more in focus shots when using the hi speed burst, he has a 7d mkii and uses I believe a 55-210 kit lens, I use and f4 24-70 zeiss, I am thinking of going dslr, any recommendations for better in focus shots and low light function between $1500-2000 thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video! A small thing I noticed - you are using a large-diaphragm microphone, right? If so ... why are you talking into the top of the mic? It's a small detail, but somehow I can't take it all 100% seriously, when a tech-guy, talking in minute detail about the pros and cons of a piece of equipment, is using the one other piece of equipment clearly visible in the video all wrong. Not a big deal, just saying ;-P
