This isn't a robotaxi model3, but the camera positions on a robotaxi adapted to the model 3 as a mule.
The position of those window cameras imply a b-pillar shifted back. So likely a 2 door, with wider doors.
No way. That would lengthen the door by about 16"... and who is building 2-doors anymore?
Two big sliding doors. Gawd hope it’s not a two door
@@Dave-cf4vd it’s a taxi, without a driver. You want to optimize for one or two passengers to enter/exit easily with bags
@@Dave-cf4vd Its likely a 2 door
I think they are simply testing new locations for the cameras, perhaps for the upcoming cheaper model. Or maybe even the van.
Or to supply FSD to others
I actually saw one of these cars in real life, and can provide a bit more about its visual. No side mirrors, lots of cameras, but from what I understand, its more likely this is prototyping for HW5
In Netherlands, taxis are not only expensive, but extremely unreliable.
They might come, or not….
Roulette is more predictable.
Because in the Netherlands, there isn't a lot of NEED for taxis as I understand it. Unlike North American suburbia and zoning hell, you can WALK to places you need to go to daily. Or BIKE.
So there is little demand, which leads to them being MORE expensive, which leads to LESS demand, and the price "spiral" continues until demand and cost reach equilibrium.
I think the idea of a robotaxi simply being a replacement for a regular taxi and that market size is way under selling the transformational effect. We're more likely talking about why own a car at all for a large segment of people suddenly. Why have a garage? You suddenly avoided car loans, maintenance, insurance, licensing. It's revolutionary.
The removal of mirrors might be a clue. It might also represent a test bed for OTHER manufacturers to adopt FSD with different camera positions as it would be difficult to match the positioning of cameras on different body styles. Who knows?!?
wrrrg
some are saying its not a robotaxi but a test of cameras etc for the robotaxi in a model 3.
and that wouldn't be the beginnings of a robotaxi model 3? I mean.. basically teh only dif between what you're describing and a "robotaxi" is removing pedals and steering wheel right? Maybe more pivotable seats and removing a center console for more room and varied seating positions? But le'ts just pretend for economies of scale the cabin/seating stays the same. Then what really is the difference?
In Vietnam it is extremely hard to catch a taxi if it is raining...not because it lacks of cabs in high demand hours, but because lack of drivers. Robotaxi may solve the problem
It is not less drivers but more riders. I drove taxis wet days were good
They may go with the name Johnny Cab.
Sounds True, but it could be a lie.
I recall something about this name, but not totally.
Johnny cab, yes; but Schwarznegger has no artificial driver to tear out.
Revux impact on loyalty programs could be revolutionary. Glad I'm early!
We need no „RoboTaxi“, what we do need is an attractive Model 2!
Shhhhh. You don’t even know what you want
Did u know you’d want a glass screen phone that you’re now addicted to. Nope. Jobs gave it to you. Elon is giving you the future of transport. So 🤐
i dont want a smart phone. i hate these things

Afternoon mate
Too many reasons for different camera placements. Other manufacturers’ cars for FSD? Future Tesla model? Simply alternate placement for flexible camera location through universal calibration?
In the crowded crypto space, Revux stands out as a real gem!
Likely testing for removal of side mirror after USA finally adopts R46.
@ISuperTed You would need Total Recall. 🤣
This will be a test vehicle for unreleased versions of FSD. I'd say Telsa is closer to robotaxis than letting on. We're seeing signs. Any software available to the public is always several versions behind whay is in development. Tesla likely has made substantial advances internally they are in the process of validating.
It has to be a lot cheaper as Elon said at one stage robotaxi's would be $1 per mile. If we roughly translate that into Au/NZD its $1 per km. I do 900km a month so the robotaxi would cost me $900NZD a month, no way do I pay that much for an EV. It would have to be 1/2 that to start to become interesting.
How will FSD address freeway traffic that frequently moves 10 mph + faster than posted speed limit? This could infuriate a lot of drivers.
So how does the driver take over without wing mirrors?
What happens when it's raining and the camera lenses get wet?
Tesla, rather than hiring drivers:
1. Provide Tesla vehicles to high-rated Uber and Lyft drivers,
with option to buy.
2. Provide an onboard App that explains FSD to customers being transported.
making good on promises to investors on advertising.
3. Reward those drivers giving transport as a service, "Edge-case Tesla Points" that can
be redeemed at Tesla service centers and restaurants.
4. Very high mileage drivers should be able to "earn" a Tesla outright, via referral
credits.
5. Offer car insurance discounts (up to 100%) to ride service drivers based on quality
of edge-case discoveries and driver safety.
A pipe dream.
That 90% reduction in cost will be absorbed as profit, not given as a discount to riders.
Naaaahhhh. This is testing possibilities for all future cars from Tesla.
Mirrors cause such a drag.
Viking you don’t know what the robo taxi will charge! My GUESS is they will charge what ever they can to extract the highest dollar!
Agree, The will charge what the market will pay. Same with electricity & battery storage, no way the mega electric companies are gonna charge peanuts and take a massive price cut unless they have to from competition ie) rooftop solar maybe.
something to do with a scrollable 360 degree image
Taking a Model 3 or Y and removing all of the driver necessities to produce a Robo Taxi could reduce the cost. Tesla has 4 factories producing Model Y's so in theory Tesla could quickly produce a large volume of Robo Taxi's quickly. I doubt most of know Elon's plan but I suspect this is not just about taking over the Taxi business. It's about transportation measured in miles driven not by units sold. To fuel these miles electricity is needed. When that demand is there Tesla can be it's supplier.
HAIR!!😆
Cannot wait for this! I'm never buying another ICE car, and if this works out, I might not need an EV either :)
Camera only FSD is never going to work.
i got a ticket for no front license plate...no way would try driving without side mirrors
Ride hailing is crazy expensive in the USA as well...
More unverified Tesla hype by the Tesla/China Viking.
No, what you saw is a model 3 with no mirrors and new cameras. To be a robotaxi would also require FSD that actually works.
Yeah click bait title.
There are no Robotaxis.
When they are driverless what if-
The rider is handicapped or in a wheeir
The riders throw up in the cab
The rider passes out & the wife gas has to be woken up to lift hjm out of rge cab.
The passenger dies in the cab.
The rider lopens the door & falls out going round a corner.
I am not just being funny all these & more have happened in my nearly 40 yyears driving a cab in Sydney Australia.
Alsocan they only work around towh or can they drive to a place 109km from town with unmarked unseale roads.
Or when the house is a 15 min drive from the gate ?
The taxi can be a delivery car first. Delivery packages, food, and take pet to dog groomers.
Driverless vehicles solve DUA
Am I missing something? It seems to me that robotaxi would work just as well with a petrol engine
No
Scenario: Satya, Sundar, Sam, Demis, Elon, and Jensen in a race to AGI. Who wins?
My pick is Elon because while Jensen has access to robots enabling real world embodied AI, only Elon has easy access to orbital space. Access to orbital space enables a space based solar powered computing network composed of both classical and quantum computers. Terrestrial data centers and quantum computers require massive and costly energy inputs and cooling systems. In space this is a non-issue as direct solar radiation and near absolute zero ambient temperatures offer optimal environmental conditions for self sustaining classical and quantum computer networks.
Robotaxi? You mean a Johnny-Cab
Why does Tesla have to do a special robotaxi version of Model 3 in 2024?
Elon personally told me in 2019 that it would be financially irresponsible for me to buy anything but a Model 3/Y, because next year meaning 2020 it would earn me 35,000 USD as robotaxi.
So funny, The Tesla Viking is so gullible
He’s partnering with baidu as if people Remember Apple invested 1 billion in them for cars. And they are running driverless cars already. He had to fold and join in before he was locked out of China robotaxi as the competition is too fierce there. They could partner with any auto company and Tesla would have to try and squeeze in #3/4/5
Waymo does about 17,000 miles for each disengagement, FSD is currently at about 360, so still some way to go. Tesla FSD city miles for before a critical disengagement is about 140.
More like 17000 per disengagement. They're also priced the same per journey as a standard car with a driver which makes them more comparable with a driver-attended vehicle. Their vehicles also cost $300000 per car plus wage for the guy monitoring them all day, versus $30000 for a Tesla
@@snappie-riversofengland7589 Yes, but right now there is nothing concrete to show when or if, the $30,000 will ever be robotaxi capable. Obviously Merc now have a level 3 system, but only for very certain situations and contains lidar and ultrasonic sensors. You were right, should be 17,000.
Your info is laughably incorrect.
@@Dave-cf4vd In what way?
Tesla share price set to rocket. Grab as much as you can. Full autonomy is virtually solved. The world is about to knock on Tesla's door.
without mirrors,, how woman do makeup darlinks ?
I rather flip burgers than be a robotaxi driver, another redundant job.
So Tesla lied to his customers that all their cars would be robo taxi's only to build their own specialized ones instead.
Lol 😂🤣🤣... They have left u behind 😂😂
Oh dear, what on earth are you talking about. Cars always evolve and this doesn’t stop anyone with FSD being a Robotaxi. This is obviously just a test car of some sort and it could be anything.
wrgg
Soon you'll see Mexican electric cars everywhere.🇨🇳
No chance of reduction, down to 10%, of Taxi prices, with the advent of RoboTaxis! Not with Elon's ego & his 50 Billion overhead, still to be paid.
So, Tesla robots don’t need to look in mirrors to see behind them? How can they switch lanes safely? Maybe they’re mounting cameras in the back of they’re heads?
What do you mean by Tesla Robots? Are you talking about Optimus, the humanoid Tesla bot? Those humanoids don't drive the robo-taxis, the car drives itself with the Full Self Driving software and that car does have a cameras in the back, it actually has 8 cameras in total looking out of the car and a 9th one inside to monitor the driver. The CyberTruck and probably future Tesla vehicles will have an additional camera on the front bumper.
By the way, the humanoid robots do not have cameras on the back of their heads, at least I don't think so, since they can turn their heads.
Tesla Robots don’t drive the cars, they are driverless. There’s no physical robot/driver, it’s all done by software, cameras, sensors etc.
I wouldn’t want to get in a car which had no driver.
as it was in the beginning with electric cars...electricity was cheap, it was the cheapest way to drive your own car. However, as more and more people started buying electric cars, they became more and more complicated and expensive, as well as expensive to run and own. The only worldwide car company that tries to get cost down is tesla (but they are still too expensive for more than 50% of the people in the world). The robotaxi's will do the same: be cheap in the beginning and then be as expensive, or more expensive than what normal taxi's are now. We have seen this happen with Uber and other apps like it. Greed is the reason all of them become more expensive. Yes, every company needs to make money, but having 50-90% profit from what you sell is called being greedy
I pay $60 to $80 a month to drive my Tesla and charge 98% at home. I drive about 1200 miles a month. Try to drive that cheap with any gas car. You can get a great used Tesla for $30k even less for older higher milage one but a good low milage one for $30k
Don't believe what the legacy companies tell you. Buy an EV and see for yourself
My EV has made my life easier, more affordable, and ultimately better…Don’t believe the media lies!
Electric cars will always be cheaper than gas to drive and run so will Robo taxis
@@snappie-riversofengland7589 if I can get a ICE better car for 35k, why would I pay 50k for a Tesla. Doesn't make sense.
If Elon only offers a model 2 ROBOTAXI, that marks the end of Tesla. People want to own a Tesla model 2, a robotaxi makes no sense. Perhaps the profit margin on a Tesla model 2 is too small to just sell it on the market, so Elon gambles on another business model taking over the taxi business (??). No problem, I wait for a solar Aptera anyway, see you Elon.
Another pump job by Elon.
As an engineer, I can tell you definitively that electric vehicles are a scam. Now even ordinary people are beginning to see past the hype. Brace yourselves for destruction.
Hybrids are the scam. A car needs one engine to go around, they sell you TWO. 😂
Global warming is a scam.
Yeah remember how there was supposed to be millions on the road YEARS ago? Lol I love watching the downfall of Enron Musk
say bye bye to the taxi industry
😂 imagine believing a level 2 automous system is a robotaxi
