    Looking at these results I think that Google has not done a good enough job utilizing the 50 MP of the Pixel 6 and 7 cameras. Hopefully this will improve with software.

      To this day it isn't even possible to take a picture with the full 50MP.
      It's always cropped to 12MP on a Pixel with no option to activate.
      Google is turning more into Apple by giving less and less freedom and features while Apple is going flat out with actually useful features:
      - Client side encryption
      - Find My Network
      - camera presets
      - Email Aliasing

      At this stage, it's not about the resolution but about the render. When you shoot a person, the natural blur is so much better with the GN1! And it's way better for videos.

    This is mind blowing 🤯🤯 I think the real difference is in the screen quality so more recent models have better screen quality and users enjoy more the experience of taking photos because the feel like they have better cameras but they actually have better screens so the photos look nicer. In fact, I own a Pixel 2xl and a Pixel 7pro and I have owned a pixel 4a and a pixel 6 in the past. All this time I thought the camera was improved but when I see old pictures in Google photos on the screen of my pixel 7 pro, taken with my old pixel devices, the quality of those old photos just looks like the ones taken with my pixel 7pro. It's insane

    Thank you for the camera comparison video. It was very eye-opening. I had a Pixel 2 and upgraded to the Pixel 5 when it was released. The first thing I noticed is that the quality of the Pixel 5 photos was disappointing in many cases when compared to the Pixel 2. My Pixel 5 consistently seems to make the color blue appear purple. Night Sight works much better on the 2 vs 5. In fact, the normal camera mode on my 5 produces better night photos than Night Sight. Logic seems to follow that the newest is always better than the previous. However, this doesn't always happen in reality. I'm hoping that the future Pixel cameras produce the highest quality photos.

    Thank you so much for this video. No more obvious way to show that optimization is a little lacking on last gen pixels. Please if you could point out this software issue i found in pixel 7 pro cameras. It seems that the telephoto does not allow more than 2 secs in auto or manual Night sight. Which is a bummer because 6 sec with the telephoto gives you way denoised and clear image compared to the main and ultrawide lenses. You can see it for yourself in very low light scenarios without tripod. The only way i found to force a max of 6 secs is switching from the main to the tele as fast as possible. This is more common in 10x or above and affects not only in night conditions but in high dynamic scenes. Thanks in advance! You are our voice to rpixel users

    The old software team might have left from gcam section at their office. They used to be the best. The change in pixel size, can change the software tuning. The software is optimized only for older 12 mp sensor models. That leaves room for improvement which is left as such. Custom roms, adb bridges for pixel models can hopefully address the room for improvement.

    Wow, people really are saying the Pixel series is terrible, or that its disappointing after this? No offense, fools 😂😂
    The biggest point IMO is - The comparison shows just how good the Pixel series always has been. All of these were practically identical, all of them were just perfect! Colors, exposure, noise, everything was close to perfect! On all of them!
    I simply don't expect Google to wake up and decide "Green is blue for this generation", and calling it "improvement", like Apple, which has different (yet, inaccurate) color balance with each generation. I wouldn't appreciate change for the heck of it, when, as I said, it is so close to perfect.
    Another strength this highlights is - With updates, they are improving, and adding features even on the older phones.
    A big factor to note is - The scale of votes was so small. Add more voters, and results could change so much. And the differences that IDTR picked were also by zooming like 10X into the background.
    Also, the Pixel 7 did improve a fair bit, just the fact that you can't go too far with daytime shots, because my Moto G40 takes photos just as good as any flagship, lol.
    And if you don't believe me, check iPhone, or Galaxy S comparisons. The S8/S9, or iPhone XS/11 were stinker cameras, with poorly handled colors and shadows on the iPhones, and dark images on the Samsungs. And if people think Google Pixel has gone to dogs, then what a shame on iPhone and Samsung Galaxy! Because the "oh so terrible", or "oh so disappointing" Pixel series still beats all of them in blind tests.

    The camera setup on the back consists of a 64MP Sony IMX787 main camera coupled with a 12MP ultrawide one. The former will likely pose a significant upgrade over the Pixel 6a's 12.2MP unit."

    It wasn't until my experience with Samsung's s95b QD OLED TV that I was open to the possibility that a company would sabotage the quality of its product. With every firmware update I did on that TV, the quality of the TVs picture degraded more and more. I now believe that's what happened with pixels 4XL. That's the only reason I can assume why the portrait mode photos weren't as good as they were when I used to use mine. The Pixel 6 pro and 7 pro were terrible in terms of portrait mode, photo quality compared to my old pixel 2 XL and 4XLs.

  • @ptwoods
    @ptwoods ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Nice comparison. My opinion is that 1.4 micrometer for the pixel size is optimal (as in the old sensor) while the binned 2.4 micrometer pixel of the new sensor does not offer more details. But the new sensor offers more light (thus better photos at dark and better videos) as well as the central telephoto lens at 2x. These benefits along with more cameras and more options (long exposure, macro, etc) makes p7pro the best pixel ever in my opinion, even though I still much like my p4xl.

    • @xypleth
      @xypleth ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Smart phones pretty much do simple fast landscape photos better than any DSLR (except of course for actual, crop, detail). Whilst the larger sensor and larger aperture shoots landscape photo-ability in the leg. In return some shallow depth of flied effects get introduced, which in my opinion is more important.
      It's impressive to see old phones keep up, thanks to computational photography, ability to have some shallow depth and even less noise, and similar detail is a great update to the hardware.
