That was brilliant! I’ve never done a track day after forty years riding, and shared your misgivings but you have really helped me see how much fun they could be. Wishing you many more!👍
Fantastic documentary of a first track day Dave. You seem to have the while thing nailed down perfectly. Look forward to more on Track Days etc from you. Brilliant video.
Well done for winning your first trackday... and yes you did win it, coz you didn't bin it and you left with a smile on your chops! :D You'll never forget your first trackday. Mad they didn't like the Insta360 on the bike, yet they let you keep all the mounting hardware for the camera on your helmet. The Aprilia sounded fantastic, and well done for giving a commentary. Def worry less what the speedo says and more what the track requires though. So glad you had an awesome time, will we see you at more trackdays in the future, or was this a bucket list thing to tick off the list? 🙂
Thanks mate. I’d love to meet up with you and do this too! I’ve been reflecting with @johnjfab and whilst we were both a bit shell shocked at the intensity of the day I think we would love to give it a blast again! Maybe on cheaper bikes next time though.
@@WheelieGoodTV more than happy to share a day with you if it is possible Dave 🙂 Am not sure cheaper bikes fix the fear of hurting ourselves, but def stop some of the worries about our pride and joys... My V7 is the least powerful of my tarmac bikes, but owes me the most to replace... it is by far the most fun on track though coz I can handle 50bhp... I'm lost on my gixer with 100bhp more
I wouldn’t track that Gixer of yours, it’s a beautiful piece of art. I am more worried about hurting my bike than myself, is this normal? The RS660 is an exception I suppose because it’s shiny new and scratch free (not to mention costing a packet) so I made a big huge mistake taking this Julia Roberts to a five star boutique. I will return with a more suitable accomplice next year.🤫
Hahaha, it is pretty, but I got it to be able to do trackdays on it, and it is worth less to me than my V7 is... anyhows, sportsbikes were built to be spanked, they love it the filthy little scamps! :P
@@WheelieGoodTV I started with an old Honda CBR600F, which was a fantastic learning tool. Not expensive and not super fast, but with really good handling capabilities. I then moved to a 2006 Kawasaki ZX10R, which was fantastic, this bike took me from the Novice Group right up to Advanced Group. I now have a KTM RC8 dedicated Track bike, and a KTM 1290 Superduke R Road bike. I still get nervous every time i go out, but i still absolutely love it. By the way, i also bought a Royal Enfield Continental GT, after watching your videos! Great videos, keep it up.
Great video Dave. Never been on track myself, although riding 40+ years. You made it look far less intimidating than I’ve imagined it to be. Maybe one for next year!
I just stumbled on this video and spotted myself behind you on the first round😃😃😃green zx600r,it was my first track day too and I'm on the road on bikes over 20yrs,I was absolutely bricking it myself haha, but I must say it was the best day out on the bike I ever had,I've the first 5 trackdays booked already, great video and a new subscriber😄😄
This is really cool for me because I have basically decided at this point I'm gonna go for the RS660 in the spring thanks to videos like yours! I never thought I'd get a chance to track any motorbike I own where I live in Canada...but apparently they are finishing building a pretty fast and big race track near Calgary, Alberta! It happens to only be just a couple hours drive from my home :)
Glad you enjoyed your first trackdays dave. I used to get butterflies in stomach but that disappears once you get on track. I’m looking forward to taking my RS660 on track once winter is over. You’ll soon be bouncing off the Rev limiter with knee on the deck 👍
Dave ,how you doing? Good I hope..Still loving the vids but on the last two I couldn't help noticing your not wearing the Daytona M star gtx boots! As a fellow short arse like yourself with a 29 inch inseam I was thinking of buying some ,but as its a major purchase for me on my budget I was just wondering if there was a problem with them? Keep up the good work Dave ,all the best Stuart ,The mad Yorkshireman
Hi Stuart. I still love the Daytona boots and they only get better every time I wear them. I’m only using the Alpinestars with my leather suit as these boots have a wider fitting on the calf which allows the leathers to be tucked inside. The Daytonas are quite tight fitting on my fat calf’s. 👍🏍
very nice footage mate. i have the impression that youre very stiff on ur bike, try to lean and position your hips more, that gives confindence and grip. drive save and have fun
Thanks bud. Yea I totally agree and that’s probably because I was terrified. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year with no cameras or vlogging etc. I’m sure I’ll relax more if I’m only concentrating on riding. Thanks for the feedback. 👍🏍👌
Fair play mate , you will now have the bug!! I went from novice to Inters this year doing 15 track days 🤣 Haven't took my 660 on track yet I'd like to but have a dedicated track bike 675 daytona
Fair play well done Dave , not sure I'd have been brave enough to take a brand new beautiful bike like that out. Had my first track experience last year when I started the irish mini bike series in 140 stock supermoto.....the adrenaline rush is amazing
Wot no tyre warmers😂, been there on my GS, great fun once the nerves settle and even I got rid of my chicken strips and bubbled the tyres at Croft in North Yorkshire. Certainly increases the confidence on the road. By the way you had the right bike and it sounded awesome, well done it’s pretty scary first time but post lunch you’re twice as quick, well you think you are😆
Dave I’m one of the instructors there, next time you come down grab me and we can work on your body positioning.. one thing that stood out tho was stop leaving a finger over the brake.. I’ve seen so many crashes where people are still on the throttle but snatch the brake because of a situation in front and then the rear is fighting against the front.. if that makes sense.. anyway glad you enjoyed it.. see you next year
Hi Dave, great vid, very engaging and honest. I had dropped you a PM a while back which you were kind enough to reply to about hooking up. I tried replying again but the message wouldn't send! Are you still on FB? Keep the vids coming, great work.
Looks like you had a blast! Did you retain the suspension settings for subsequent road use or were they just for the track? Did you need special insurance? I'm more than happy living vicariously through your videos as I'm still running my bike in 🤣
Hi Russell, I was so impressed by the new settings that I have kept them for my road use which in fairness is to blast out the cobwebs anyway rather than touring. It has changed the bike completely for the better but what I admire so much about this bike is it’s ability to change. This really is an incredible motorcycle. 🏍
Well done man 👍 great video. Can't wait to get up there someday.
Thanks bud. I’m looking to book in again before the end of this season.
Great video and nice channel! The first time on the track, you never forget it! I might see you out at Mondello at your next one :)
Can’t wait for the next one although my time is tight this year. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏍

That looks like a ton of fun! That bike is so gorgeous and sounds pretty good stock.
Excellent, thoroughly enjoyed this one thank you 👍
Brilliant Dave. Loved it.
Another great video Dave, thank you.
Can’t wait to see the MIA review!
Fantastic video. Took me right back to my first time on a track. You seemed to take to it brilliantly!
Very kind but I was 10 times more nervous than appeared in the vid. I’ll definitely try it again next year though…..maybe on a cheaper bike.😬
Loved that one Dave great job showing the nerves and the confidence building. You done well sir.
Fantastic! Well done Dave. Don't think I'd trust myself on a track but loved watching you on your awesome bike 😎
Thanks Ian. Appreciated!
Let us know when you are doing the Nurburgring....I'll come and watch!
