Check out our watch strap shop barkandjack.com Is the MoonSwatch worth it? Is the MoonSwatch well made? How to change the strap on a MoonSwatch. #Omega #Swatch #Moonswatch
Yes but when you look at a Moonswatch on your wrist it looks like a real Speedy and it puts a smile on your face knowing it didn’t cost much and if you like the Swatch brand as well as the Omega brand then it’s a great feel good thing.
I went to a doctor today, I loved his Omega MoonSwatch, it looked great and I told him! Original strap. I've got a 30 year old Swatch automatic that still works.
I’ve had a Speedmaster Pro for years and thought that a MoonSwatch would make a nice beater, but I wasn’t up for the hand to hand combat required to get one. I randomly stumbled on to the Q Timex GMT and got one of those instead and it seams I dodged a bullet. The stainless steel Timex is just brilliant…
@@borion7775 I think you misread my post. I’ve had an Omega Speedmaster Pro for years (2007 to be exact) and was looking for a daily beater. I know that the MoonSwatch and the Q Timex GMT are not comparable watches, but at the time they were the hot new things. It was too hard to get the MoonSwatch, but the Timex was easy.
I have a lot of great watches and I have probably worn the moonswatch for over 120 days this year. I have the moon with a black AM band. I think its a fantastic watch. I haven't had to adjust the time much at all. It just keeps going as a quartz does. Its an easy grab and go watch when I don't want to mess with a watch winder. It looks fantastic just as it did when I bought it. I brought it to mexico. In the beach, in the pool, to work, hitting the desk, the car, falling off my desk. It is great.
Honestly so glad this video came up. What killed the collab for me is exactly that: the quality issues! Mine once stopped over night! I thought the battery died already (what would have been strange) but then i engaged the pushers and bloody hell the chrono hand started to move. I then gave the watch a few gentle taps and since then it has been running. My Point is: If Omega decides to put their name on the dial, the watch has to be superior to Swatch quality. This is what a real collab should be, now it is just borrowing a Name and a design... Sad for the Brand ...
Omega had nothing to do with the moonswatch. They even did not like the idea and did anything they could to not make it happen. The Swatchgroup was stronger in the end unfortunately. Not sure if I second Adrians opinion that both Swatch and Omega needed that Hype- injection. Also I think it did not damage OMEGA, at least not in the long run.
@@craftingmat5425 like it or not is their parent company that owns both companies. Commercially they need to make money but just how far they can milk this golden goose? As a watch collector I don't wanna see everyone wearing the same looking watch as me so I definitely don't wanna buy a speedy now let alone before
To be fair, my real moonwatch developed a fault after 1 week and would stop running occasionally. Of course, Omega replaced it, and it's obviously infinitely serviceable unlike the plastic Moonswatch.
@@simontucci8170 that's poor QC TBH. What happened if you are traveling etc? This could happened with a rep watch where the movement is assembled in poor condition, but not a gen.
@@I_like_YT_lots QC has nothing to do with the crappy materials and movement. You can't pick a horrible plastic and use QC to make it good. The Swatch approach is: "Let make a lot of money using the Omega logo". And because Omega is a part of Swatch Group I will never buy another Omega watch again. That scam is too much (my personal opinion).
I initially was part of the group that lost their minds about these watches. After some time has gone by, I no longer have any desire to pick one up. That coupled with the fact that I picked up the "Seaweed" SMP yesterday, I will never pick up one of these.
I agreed with this comment as soon as I began reading it. I then agreed further when you mentioned the seaweed…I got one in June on a rubber strap and you can’t replace the real thing. I love it. Leave the plastic toys to the Instagram kids.
@@mikewhiskee3498 Agreed mate. Toys are for kids. I got the Bracelet, but have the rubber strap on order. Have to decide on deployment or tang. Which did you get?
Here’s the thing; not only both brands needed the hype, but also the watch hobby as a whole needed it. But up to this point, I think it’s safe to say that the hype got RIDICULOUSLY out of hand.
It’s really a shame that they need the hype. Omega’s design team are running the brand into the ground. If they would bring on new designers/creative directors that were actually watch fans and in tune with the market, they could easily be the biggest brand in the world. As for Swatch, their main issue is the sizes. The old ones are 33mm and the new stuff is too large. They need a 36mm. Fairly easy fix. I think most of these Swiss brands are in dire need of new talent at the helm.
What I have noticed is that most people have adopted wearing a smartwatch. The interest in that category has really killed idea of regular wrist watch.
@@speedwolf5212 I think you’re blasphemous words are 100% correct. Omega is one creative director away from super success. Look at what Breitling has just done with their new designs, just stunning. Sure, anything slightly toned down from Breitlings mega-tacky recent history would have been good but they have just knocked it out of the park this go round. Omega feels safe and stale to me. Absolutely fine good looking watches without a soul. TBF I’m the last person to speak about Omega because their aesthetic as a whole has never spoken to me. The Swatch comment is so dead on. Too small to too large. Basic Swatch should be 36 (not 34), chronos and divers 38, and chrono divers 40. No idea why they thought 43 was a good idea. Swatch make loud designs that just come off as clown shoes at that size. You know like RM does. If people have to try that hard to be noticed they need to work on their personalities first. They seriously look like toasters on the wrist. I would also add that Swatch need better quality built into them. I own tons of them and they really are quite shit. They wind like a 15 year old learning to drive stick for the first time, functions stop working from out of nowhere, and they break easily. This goes for the Quartz versions as well. How do they use ETA and have these issues? Make them better and adjust prices accordingly. Make them easy to service as well. Swatch is a very collector friendly brand and if they just built them with some longevity in mind I think we’d see them explode again. Well that, and get the sizing dialed in.
The current day watch market is the biggest it has been in its entire history so I have no idea what you mean about the hobby needing a boost. Omega and Swatch, sure but as a whole the industry is stupid healthy. Too healthy in my mind. This mega success/desire/hype won’t last forever and pricing will come back down to earth. Many micro brands aren’t going to survive but that’s how trends work.
I agree, I love the hype they created in the watch industry, however their follow-up after the hype leaves much to be desired. I decided instead to buy a Japanese market only Seiko SARV001, a beautiful metal mechanical watch that is as accurate as my expensive pieces. Got it shipped over to the US for less than $200 and much happier than I would have been with an expensive Swatch.
The hype created around a plastic watch, followed by the general unavailability of the watch (unless you're willing to pitch a tent in front of a swatch shop) was what gave me the final push to quit the hobby after more than 35 years of collecting. I sold my entire collection save one watch that was gifted to me including some Rolex watches (that have become unwearable because of the risk of getting robbed) and the liquidity of the money gave me more joy than my precious watches stuck in my safe had done for a long time. Watch collecting was fun until it made me feel like a paranoid Smaug the dragon guarding his treasure, and the idea that I was going to add a plastic watch to that treasure made me feel like a fool.
@@theaussiewhinger When people stand in line to buy plastic watches and your own pretty ordinary collection has gained so much in value that you now feel uncomfortable wearing them it's time to sell because the bubble is going to burst pretty soon.
My first watch at 6 years old was a Swatch and I absolutely loved it! To cut a long story short, I’ve owned many watches from around the globe but I’m particularly fed up with everything that has to do with the Swatch brand including Omega which I have just recently bought and it‘s already in repair - can happen, fair enough. What makes me mad though, is that I bought a Swatch Ivory and the crown broke (Believe me not my fault and error). I returned to swatch to have it fixed and they sent it back to me after 6 weeks saying they will not fix it with no further explanation. At the time I thought they didn’t want to do it for free, so I decided to just pay for the repair myself and resent it back to them saying I’ll cover the costs…. After waiting once again I received the watch back with the same note, that they are unwilling to repair it even if I pay. I had the watch for less that a year and having had at least 20 watches thus far being super careful with every piece and never broke a single one - I was pissed and still am after well over 5 years! Still have my first piece and over 30 now, if that adds some perspective… Their customer service is terrible and I regret buying the omega even though I love the watch and knew Swatch had acquired Omega years ago. I will never buy anything from the Swatch group again and will avoid buying overpriced pieces models because there is virtually no service after purchasing.
My late father in law was a keen letter writer. He was good at it. He owned an omega seamaster for years, until it developed a fault. I can remember what it was now. Anyway, he sent the watch ( at least 15 years old) to omega with a letter, saying how disappointed he was as a long time customer etc. They fixed his watch and sent it back, with a brand new model as well! Swear to god. This was about 30 years ago. Clearly, there's no way in hell this would happen now. Shows how much things have changed....not always for the better. Customer service is one of the things that's really gone out the window since then.
@@allosaurusfragilis7782 Customer service in general has become complete dogshit. No matter which big company you deal with, they don't seem to give a shit about their reputation anymore.
Thanks for letting us know. I purchased a Hamilton Khaki King about 3 years ago and it's a good watch tbh. I only found out recently that Hamilton is also part of that group also. I just hope nothing goes wrong with my watch should anything go wrong with it.
I agree my Seiko was really good and looked well.I gifted it to my dad because I knew he really wanted it.its still a decent watch and being an automatic he never has to buy a battery.
Thanks for your video on the Hamilton field mechanical. I got one for my 14th birthday and it is an amazing watch. I’ve got it on the harrods green broad weave B&J nato strap.
I gave mine to a friend like a fool years ago and I miss it often, I had a brown kangaroo leather nato on it that was so nice, I think HODINKEE still sells them, they’re too expensive but it was perfect because how thin the leather was, would recommend!
They were just so dishonest about this release. It was supposed to be available online but then they did a rug pull on us and were only offering in Swatch stores. Who in their right mind is traveling to a Swatch store (not a ton in the US) just to purchase a $260 plastic watch? Not many people will travel to an AD to buy a watch >$10K..... If they had been honest, there would be less hype but at least no one would hate Swatch, this move has made me hate the company's guts
@@isluderea8322 to be fair, i still prefer shopping in person as do many others. Unless i know exactly what the product is/know what it's going to look like/feel like, etc then I would buy online. I love the idea of this swatch/omega collab. it's been a year now since it came out and they're readily available. Honestly, forgot about the watch for a long time and am now considering getting one. Having not ever seen one in person, it's nice to actually get a feel for how it looks, feels and everything else before buying it. i dont typically like plastic watches but, honestly this moonswatch at least here in Canada is only about $50-70 more than their regular models. At least the models that aren't all cartoony and look like they're for kids.
When the MoonSwatch first came out I saw it listed on eBay for more than the original steel version, and thought why would someone pay that for a cheap speedmaster when you could have the original? But people did. Having seen the quality of Swatch in the 80’s and how they aged over the course of a year on the wrist. I was not about to buy into the hype. Omega has some great watches and you’re far better off saving for the classics, and this confirms it.
@@jacknjill3000I would get a watch strap that can also be used on a proper watch. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with a useless strap once this piece of a crap toy watch breaks down.
The Bulova 96A225 Lunar Pilot is a terrific watch for the money. This is the high polished version on a NATO style strap. Got mine from a US AD (+ one year additional warranty when you register online) delivered for $375. I love it (and I've owned three Speedmasters).
I'm so glad I couldn't get one now, what a waste of money. Honestly a £10 F91W is more durable. You might be able to re-apply the pritstick they used to put it together. Shocking - well. Thanks for the honest video Adrian.
No, the initial release created a huge bubble from scalping. If Swatch released these for online sale, the bubble would have popped and people would have been very angry. All the hype would have turned into very negative press.
When the Moonswatch first appeared I looked at it and thought, "That's a $50 watch with $250 worth of branding". After seeing one in person and talking to more than one person who bought one just to have it fall apart in weeks I realize I was being too generous. It's a $20 watch, and even that might be going a bit too far as I can buy a $20 Casio that's far more durable and keeps better time.
I have a $20 dollar Benyar Chronographer and it's miles ahead of this crap. I'm not going to mention other real watches like Casio, Citizen or Orient (all of them still costing less than MoonSwatch LOL).
So much bullshit in such a short comment... Swatches are durable to begin with, and these ones made with Bioceramic even more so. Definitely worth its money.
Casio 91w is currently $15 on Amazon. Ive had 1 for around 2 years now still going strong. Plus it regularly beats out Rolex, Nomos, and Seiko watches for time on my wrist so yeah, its an absolutely crazy high value for money compared to any other watch.
@@elgoog-the-third bioceramic is just cheap platic . i ve never had a swatch that lasted more than a year before breaking. Swatch is all design and absolute shit built quality
Thanks to this Moonswatch I have began my watch collections, ofc without buying the very watch that make me realise there's alot of good option at that price range. I eventually bought a Seiko Speedtimer SSC819 as my first ever watch purchase. Despite the look reembraces a Moonswatch in a titanium case and looks nothing like its predecessor (doesnt even have a automatic movement!), it inhertiage a rich historical background of the 6139 Seiko speedtimer/ the Bruce Lee's watch from the 1969(1968?), the first automatic chronograph that many believes.
Was in awe of the idea and wanted one for my 40th at end of May but couldn’t get close to getting one. I have small wrists but talked myself round that this wasn’t an issue. Then I heard about the glass getting scratched by cardboard, some colour bleed challenges and that supply issues were not getting fixed and my love started to sour. Then I heard that Tissot were releasing the 35mm PRX. Sapphire crystal, gorgeous bracelet, pale blue sunburst dial (chef’s kiss). I now have a much better watch that looks awesome, is more suitable for my wrist and I don’t have any fear it’ll get mutilated by general wear and tear.
Hi Adrian, great video and food for thought. One question came to mind for me watching your segment though; did you contact Swatch to have it repaired or replaced? I'm assuming it does fall within the warranty no? It looks to me from your video that the bio ceramic cracked and could have been a batch that was improperly mixed or didn't cool right or even had bubbles form, weakening the final product. Only one third of the mix is ceramic and I would have to say that mixing ceramic and plastic can't be the easiest to do industrially. I would be interested in knowing if Swatch does make you whole and corrects this unfortunate fail.
I loved the idea behind it, but once I learned it was a plastic watch with 50m WR for $250 that you have to jump through hoops to get, I quickly lost interest.
Swatch build quality versus Casio G-Shock build quality highlights the difference between Swiss and Japanese manufacturers. The Japanese do not have any disdain for the lower end of the watch market. Swatch should have owned the lower end of the watch market given how meteoric their start was. Instead, Swatch has ultimately declined reputation wise to insignificance while Casio G-Shock moves from strength to strength.
First time I saw the hype, I realised that’s exactly what it was - a hyped product with ‘name’ recognition and not much else. Yes, the design almost apes the Speedy, but if you want a cheap Speedmaster, the Bulova Lunar Pilot is a far better option, and still only ten percent the price of the Omega. P.S. concerning the Speedy servicing, if you don’t try and kill it, and have a regular rotation of other watches, ten year service intervals are easily attainable.
when you say a regular rotation of other watches, do you mean don't wind the speedy every day to prolong the internals/lubricant? or do you more just don't wear it everyday - since i don't know what difference that makes as it's not an automatic?
@@stormzybanksy More the latter. I have a rotation of about twelve or fourteen pieces - not including G shocks - so I might get periods where I’ll wear the Speedy for a month, then go to my old MkII, or then use a Seiko turtle if I’m on holidays. You get the picture.
@@Pete...NoNotThatOne ah I gotcha. But just so I’m clear, if it’s not about the internals, then how does wearing or not wearing a watch effect the service intervals?
@@stormzybanksy If it’s not running all the time, it increases the intervals. But it’s always good to wind any watch occasionally to keep the oil viscous.
"There’s no emotion in online buying. It’s a carefully produced Swiss Made watch and not a commodity" - Nick Hayek, Swatch Group CEO, explaining why the Moonswatch would not be sold online. And yet nearly every other Swatch is available online, which begs the question: are they all poorly made commodities?
There was a lot of emotion in driving 200 miles to the nearest watch store a day early then fighting with 1,000 people cutting in line for 12 hours only to find out the store only had 100 MonnSwatches to sell.
My black Moonswatch is now three weeks old and still perfect. I had the strap switched around as I felt it had been fitted wrong way round. Availability here in the Swatch shops in Zurich is no problem. Walk in, choose colour, pay and take it away.
Well you still have a few weeks left before the pusher falls off or the dye starts to transfer on your skin, and when it stops working in a few years, in the trash it goes since it’s a disposable watch.
@@joeycan6801 Lmao what? You can literally have it serviced... The problem is that people wear these watches to work and shit, then complain when they get scratched up. These are not work watches, they aren't even daily watches. You wear them on weekend outings and stuff like that. I've had mine for a few years now and it's still in perfect shape. Stop wearing them like G shocks and maybe they'll stop messing up on y'all.
I really wanted to buy a MoonSwatch until Swatch halted online sales. Product issues like pushers breaking off and bio ceramic bleeding into customers’ wrists doesn’t help the brand neither. Good concept with poor execution. I rather by a Seiko 5 GMT homage watch for a little more money in steel.
@@turbochoochoo I understand the Seiko is ~$300 more. The MoonSwatch is $260, and the GMT is $475 in steel. I rather pay slightly more money and get the steel watch with Seiko’s quality. Plus Swatch made a fun watch hard to get which is not good marketing for a watch that Swatch said would be highly available.
I think the biggest problem with the Omega MoonSwatch is that with a big name (Omega) comes big expectations. At £250 it's just never going to be able to live up to these expectations.
They should a full blown Omega version of the Moonswatch. Metal bezels, coaxial, the whole nine. I think they will sale great. Omega already has many version of the speedmaster already what is another few more.
I have the mercury model and it keeps time quite well. I haven't had an issue with it and I realized it is the longest lasting watch I used (as I usually change watches often out of boredom). The only thing is the strap broke easily and had to replace it.
How long have had the watch and how often do you wear it? I really want the snoopy watch. But if the shit is gonna break that easily I’d rather save the money
@@AngryPaisan I wear it everyday consistently since I bought 2 years ago. Never had an issue, chronograph works perfect and never changed batteries. I bought the Moon and Jupiter but kept them for collection. The snoopy black is nice.
may i ask how they are holding up. i just bought one. not knowing the reputation they have. i simply just loved the look. im kinda scared to wear it daily now im fear of it breaking. soo how are yours holding up?
I was very open-minded about Swatch but upon ordering a watch, I honestly thought "they must be having a laugh." The quality was so cheaply done, the dial was literally paper stickers. Never will I ever waste money on another Swatch. For the same price range, Casio is by far a superior option. Oh, I think Swatch collaboration with McDonald Happy Meal free gift will be more appropriate.
My Mission to Mercury MoonSwatch is still fine, but that is not a defense of what happened to yours. I have had mine since 3 weeks after launch, but it is not my daily wear. It is in a rotation with my other watches. I do think it is an expensive Swatch, rather than a cheap Omega. That is regardless of buttons falling/breaking off. Is there any kind of warranty on that? Have you asked Swatch if they will replace/fix it?
I appreciate this video. Now I think I will hold off on getting it. I was gonna pay a little over retail for one until I can get my first true luxury watch. But now I think I will just wait. I watched your Tudor Black Bay 58 videos last week and I’m so glad I did! That’s definitely the watch for me! And nothing else will do. A hold over poorly made MoonSwatch just won’t do anymore.
I fear many future watch lovers who are fortunate/unfortunate enough to have already got a moonswatch will never grow the love for watch any more. Bravo! Swatch
I have no regrets buying 2, this watches hype got me back in collecting again, it's a relatively cheap watch I'm not going to cry when it breaks I have accepted that, but the hype this watch generated really made me feel like I was buying my first watch again all over ✌️

I wanted one of these, then got shat on when they announced I'd have to travel the length of the country to a swatch store. With that I decided UP YOURS and bought a Zelos instead. Round of applause, epic marketing.
They want you to have that "luxury purchase experience" where you travel into a busy city, camp out with a bunch of scalpers, and then fight your way into a store to hopefully snag a plastic watch that may break in a few months. Once it breaks, it would be a damn shame if all you had to remember the experience was a quick and efficient online checkout.
I have the all-black one. I love it, it's very cool - but to be completely honest I waited until some of the hype had died down and I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. I love Speedmasters - I have one from 1970 that I wear almost every day and it's clearly built like a tank. I love vintage Swatch and collect those too. I know (from owning mint Swatches from the 1980s) that when you look after an affordable plastic watch they can and will last for decades. I think some people bought the MoonSwatch expecting it to be a good daily beater - but in reality the MS is Sooooo delicate. Any slight prang will damage the 'crystal' or case. It's weirdly my most fragile watch - I treat it like a vintage dress watch. Even though that's strange and not for everyone, it looks great, I enjoy wearing it and talking about it, and I know if I keep it in mint condition in future it will be a classic and regarded piece of Swatch and Omega history. I think that last point is unquestionable, because whether you like the MoonSwatch or not, it became a significant part of both brands' history the moment it was released.
@@tonygluk1 Thanks for your reply. I definitely see what you’re saying about the hype. What I mean is that I cannot imagine any book or document of either brands’ histories that would omit this bizarre and strange chapter. Particularly the historical context of the pandemic and the fact Omega didn’t get its bump from Bond or the Olympics. If it did I don’t think it would be a complete history. That’s all I’m saying. If the prices don’t increase I could care less - that’s not why I collect watches. I’m just a nerd.
if you bought full set(box and papers and warranty card) there is 2 years warranty of MoonSwatch - just make sure AD stamped warranty card with date and retailer stamp and wrote model number
I’ve always loved the concept of the moonswatch but I’ve always said (and posted) that they are too expensive for what you get. You can get get an orient Kamasu with automatic movement, sapphire crystal, all steel, including bracelet and 200 meters water resistance for less than 200€. Hell, you can get a swatch irony sistem51 for less than 200€. I have a swatch irony that’s almost 20 years old that’s been banged up for 20 years and it’s still running beautifully. I just change the battery when ever needed and that’s it. The movement in the moonswatch is a very good quartz movement that will last forever but the watch build is very poor.
I knew right from the start that the MoonSwatch was just one big overpriced and incredibly cheaply made marketing ploy. How all the Watch youtubers could hype such an embarassement was beyond me. I bought an Orient Envoy (a sort-of Breguet Classique hommage with an open heart) for around 150$. It comes with a stainless steel case, a leather strap and an automatic (EPSON) movement. Anyone who thinks that the MoonSwatch is a cheap Omega Speedmaster alternative, should go see a psychiatrist.
I love the way these look, but ya, after reading the reviews no thanks. Just noticed you guys commenting on Orients and I love my Orient pilot, certainly wouldn't trade it for one of these unless I could flip it to someone for like triple retail.
When the entire thing began, I had 5 seconds of excitement followed by that gut feeling this was going to be a junk watch. More and more reports appear each week that this is in fact a junk watch. In hindsight, my Bulova Lunar Pilot was the same price, and I’m now due for my first battery change, which cost me a whopping $2.80 to replace.
I just bought the polished version on the NATO. It's a REAL watch. I've had mine for a month and it hasn't lost or gained a second according to the atomic clock in Colorado. + - 10 per year seems to be real.
@@larrysmith6797 I don’t think the accuracy of the movement is the issue here. It’s quartz, so the performance you’re getting is fine. The problem is the quality of materials in addition to the general longevity of those materials.
I went to see them. wasn't able to handle one for obvious reasons but they were displayed in the window. My first thought was "Oh, that's 100% a toy". Nothing wrong with it but that was that for me. Do I still think the light blue one (insert name joke here) is fun and summery? yes. would I buy it? not anymore.
I bought a casio gshock knockoff watch in walmart for $5 on a blackfriday it was originally $20 so yea. The thing has all the functions and look exactly like a rubber plastic Gshock. I was wearing it everywhere. I went on many field trip and camping out. The thing was beat up. Lost 2 of the 4 push button after a year. And at the second year, one day I found out the watch had a big crack on the front face and it also seems detaching from its core. I tried to push the cover and its structural housing back together, the watch just crumbled into a few piece on my hand. Later bought the reason deal Casio Gshock. Had some extreme weather and poor conditioned field camp with it. It just built like a tank. Everything just feels so sturdy and premium.
It's great to hear about experiences like this. There are a lot of ppl that seem to think G-Shocks are overpriced and overrated, and that cheap Chinese garbage that looks similar can compete. It's not just G-Shock tbh, as I've seen ppl say the same for products ranging from high end furniture to protective cases. I thoroughly stand by the phrase "buy cheap, buy twice".
I also have the Jupiter as they had it as I walked past the store. It scratches so easily. A gust of wind and I have a new scratch on the “glass”. Too bad they produce them from such poor quality components. I do not recommend buying these. They are fun but not worth it.
Looks like Swatch has struck out! Strike 1, the plastic bleeds into the skin. Strike 2, the pushers break off. Strike 3, the plastic crystal easily scratches. I will find another inexpensive beater watch for fun. G Shock is a better alternative.
I was really close to get the Mission to the Moon on launch day. And for the first month I was really into it. After the lies (not online anymore), and the stubbornness of only selling it in selected stores and no queues I wasn’t that interested. Then I saw countless videos showing how bad it actually is, and I really would not throw away £200 on that. Alpha makes a Speedy homage with a Venus manual movement for that same amount. That is an actual column wheel chronograph, and steel made. Way better way to spend your money.
Well said and points clearly and eruditely made as always 🙏🏻 On the launch day in London, after not getting one, I went out that afternoon and found a Seiko baby tuna compact diver, a homage to the grown up and iconic tuna diver, for around the same money; far more capable and robust than the moonswatch and iconic in its own right. Completely agree about Seiko 5, they are fantastic value and the CWC G10 isn’t even a homage, you are getting the actual MOD approved watch! Not a cereal box version (as coined by one of the commentators on Hoodinkee). As for your swatch, have you tried a warranty claim? I’m sure they’ll sort you out 👍🏻 I’ve had a few swatches and they often replace the watch entirely within warranty period. A swatch is not serviceable other than battery changes. There are some ninja watchmakers out there that specialise in swatch and perform mods etc but just bear in mind when you buy any swatch it’s not serviceable at all.
My Seiko automatic 5 sports watch I still hold in high regard,it was my first foray into autos and it did not disappoint.once I moved up to prestige watches but I still consider the S5 a very good stylish watch, especially for the price.
I like the look of the moonswatch, which comes as no surprise but if not being waterproof and having a plastic crystal is a deal breaker for me as I thought it would make a nice beater watch. I would rather get a g shock for half the price.
What I can say is, wow… if others had this interaction I’d have to imagine this is a negative in the long run. Could you imagine some young person who wants a real Speedmaster gets this to satisfy the want for a few years till they can afford a real Speedmaster? Then this breaks on them? I’d imagine they probably wouldn’t hold a real Speedmaster in such high regard anymore.
Who cares, i like watches, but its not like the world is going to stop spinning if a young person doesnt want a actual Speedmaster. Actually thats a good thing in my books.
I love the idea of the MoonSwatch… and I’d even pay the retail for one even if it may be overpriced for what it is… however I have absolutely no intention to travel to a store with the added costs of getting there and back to pick one one up (in the hopes the one I want is in store). So for me, I very much doubt one will ever sit in my collection. And I’m ok with that 🤷🏻♂️
As I’ve maintained since this 💩 was launched, there are just so many better watches out there for the money. Great visibility in the market for Omega and Swatch, but I wouldn’t waste my money
My Sistem51 Ash died a quick death as well. It was partly my fault, but that had some hype at the time as well. My mistake was putting bug spray on and putting a watch with an acrylic crystal on the back right back on a few mins later. The next day the plastic was all fogged up. Since then, even when fully wound, it will just stop sometimes. That was $200 USD flushed down the toilet pretty much. No more plastic watches for me.
The hype was real. I almost bought one but I chose to buy my first g-shock square which is exactly like what Adrian Barker has (DW5600 HR 1-DR) and this watch will last for years. Well atleast this moonswatch hype brought a lot of people to the world of watch collecting in a world full of apple watches. 🙂
"... this moonswatch hype brought a lot of people to the world lf watch collecting ..." - and they will never be interested again in watches because of the garbage they got
@@theguild42 on my part, it is the Seiko SKX that brought me to the rabbit hole. I'll be wearing it on extreme conditions without having to worry about breaking it as easy as the moonswatch 😁
My Speedmaster Pro (Hesalite) had a pusher issue. It unscrewed itself, Never found it. Sent it in under warranty. They replaced both pushers and gave the watch a complete service even though it was only 1 1/2 years old. But when I got it back, it was gaining a massive amount of time daily. The conclusion was that it had probably been exposed to a strong magnetic field somewhere in transit. Not my fault, but not Omega's either. Regardless, they gave me a new watch. You get what you pay for. Can't imagine them doing any of that for the Moon Swatch.
Hey similar thing happened to my omega speedMaster pro (sapphire sandwich). One of the pushers came off. Of course omega serviced the watch under warranty including changing both the pushers and the crown. I had owned the watch for just 2.5 months
I can totally imagine them doing that for a MoonSwatch as well... not because they actually care about customer service or because it's a luxury product, but simply because it has a 2 year warranty and will only cost them a few dollars to replace.
You would get a new one assuming they could supply- Swatch watches are not repairable - they are not forever watches, that is not the Swatch identity - cool colorful fun and inexpensive.
Dude, I love this watch. It's fun and cool. I actually wear this watch more than my other watches purely cause it's a fun watch to wear. Shouldn't be deeper than that. I haven't had any issues with it at all. Apart from the strap getting dirty from my wrist but that's about it
Just go to swatch and they will repair your watch or replace it with a new one. You have the warranty. Pushers come off even on Rolex Daytonas where the quality is top notch
I would have lost my shit if a pusher broke off my watch as normal wear and tear. The games with the distribution of the moonswatch completely killed it for me. I wouldn't buy one if the offer was in my face. Omega should just bring more colors to the speedmaster line. The Dark/Blue/White/Grey side of the moon variants were well received.
Love the idea, love the design and have investigated getting one. But I just can't justify spending either $250.00 at retail with them *only* being available at a Swatch boutique or getting one off of eBay for regularly 2x or 3x retail and not being guaranteed your watch will be legit. As many have said below, it's essentially a $25.00 watch with $225.00 worth of branding & hype. There are simply too many other better, more affordable, better built, durable options out there. It's a shame really because these are stunners to look at.
The sweetness of the deal won't last as long as the bitterness that replaces it with. I felt at the beginning this was likely to fail in the long run. I assumed it would be longer than 2 months but not overly surprised. it was even at list an overpriced piece of plastic. As more and more fail (which they inevitably will) sentiment will turn against Omega for allowing such junk to bear their name. Those who thought they were buying a Omega at Swatch money are now slowly realizing they actually bought a Swatch at omega money.. As Johnny Rotten once said "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"
But OMEGA did not even like the idea. They did for a long time anything they could to NOT make this happen. I agree, the average-guy out in the streets will not know. But OMEGA had to pass on the design to Swatch, as the Swatch Group (which OMEGA belongs to as well) asked for it in an "insisting" way. They had no options. OMEGA also had zero development on this watch - they just "donated" the design. I would even say technically, this was robbery. Secondly anybody who is into watches knew, that this is not a quality product, not anywhere close to a real Speedy Moonwatch. Still, I understand the disappointment from Adrian. If I had one (and I try to get one, too), I would also be disappointed seing the watch drop to pieces... but all others (who are not into watches) will maybe just scrap it and turn over that page. I guess the ammount of people who really care about 200 quid is not that high on the group buying Monnswatches. Meanwhile I am happy I was unable to get one.
3:00 - is the watch on the DESERT SAND TUBULAR NYLON or LIGHT SAND TUBULAR NYLON? I would love to buy the exact same strap of your store. Sadly, I suffer from colour-blindness, hence it is very hard for me to tell..
This is why I will always keep a field watch or two. Plain, basic, tough and unobtrusive. If you want to talk about a $ value per month over a watch lifespan, the Casio 5600 20 bar G-Shock solar is at minimum in the top 5 out of all watches ever made.
Agreed, my solar 5600 has been absolutely amazing and after 3 years of use it still looks and feels brand new, i think it's amongst one of the most iconic watches ever made and the fact that there are so many customisation choices for them makes the appeal never end.
Yes it always did seem a bit fragile. The design was never meant to be made from plastic. I know you can change the strap, but I would have been worried to break off the lugs when removing the metal springbars. 😂- It’s just for putting it in a cabinet maybe, hoping it doesn’t start to crumble one day. Keeping it out of the sun is probably a good idea. While I agree you can get a metal watch for less - it’s never going to be that crazy candy Speedmaster. That crazy experiment feel is the only motivation for me to ever get one, not because I think it’s better than a Seiko 5.
It will be interesting to see what happens to speedmaster sales in the next 2-5 years. I've always wanted a speedmaster but never had the courage to purchase one. I think my Mission to Mercury "gateway watch" might just push me over the threshold - the OxS watch pusher that didn't fail.
I have a mission to mercury moonswatch, I really like it, first day I changed the strap to a NATO, still working, but the plastic feels cheaper than a Casio.
My wife and I bought two Moonswatches... fully aware that these are Swatches. My wife scratched her "Mission to Eartch" quite easily but a bit of polish helped. Both watches are still fully functional. But... as a owner of 4 Omegas (3 Speedmasters, 1 Seamaster) I thought that the build quality was better than it is. What enrages me is that the chrono hand always falls between the second indices and not spot on. Am I too picky about this issue? Let me know... Adrian's watch shows this behaviour as well, so this is probably pretty common. Have fun, Alex
Great point about the cost of the real Moonwatch! I bought my Speedy to last a lifetime and to use it as designed. I recently took it hiking where I encountered dust, heat, rain and hail. The Speedy took it all in stride. Point is, if you want a Speedmaster then buy the real thing. Cheap substitutes will never scratch the itch.
I had a friend who recently bought a speedmaster from somewhere in the early 2000’s who’s pusher fell off after he bought it. No one could fix it and he had to send it to omega. Omega did a full service and repair. $1100 and 3 months later he got it back and 3 days later the crown broke off. So……
The speedmaster pushers are easily replaced. There's plenty of watchmakers who can service it. Omega servicing is nearer £800, independents half that. My Speedmaster is now 55 years old, it's a quality watch and not what you suggest. Is your nose growing?
I call BS. Any competent watchmaker can fix that while you wait. Plus, a full service on a Speedmaster is only $750 through Omega. That price includes new pushers and crown too.
The best thing about the MoonSwatch is that it introduced me to the MoonWatch. Walked into an Omega Boutique asking for a MoonSwatch😅, found out how pretty the MoonWatch really is
I have come to the conclusion that both companies knew this watch was junk hence why they stopped pushing it immediately. I think this negative attention is bad for both companies.
Making it a "physical shop only" item has to be the biggest own-goal. I probably would have bought one, never having held it, from the online store. I'm NOT going to fly 2 hours to Sydney, to see if they have one in stock. NO, wait, that store is apparently closed. Definitely not dragging over to Melbourne and heading out to whoop whoop Chadstone. No sale.
Absolutely. The only Swatch store near me is at the Mall of America, an hour drive for me, and they didn't even have it! I wanted one before they released and now I wouldn't buy one given the opportunity. They dropped the ball massively.
Was in chaddy last Monday . They didn’t have any anyway . Asked at the DFO store in the city too . The guy told me they’ve never had them and won’t at that store 😂
Went to the Swatch in NYC a few weeks back. I called to see if they would tell me if they had stock (they wouldn't tell me) and ended up going to the store. They had the entire set on display but NON for sale. It was pathetic. Either you want to sell them because they're a commodity or you don't. I guess they're just super afraid of flippers but they would have 100% made a sale on me because I think they're a cool trinket but not going to go out of my way.
Is something like this covered under the service warranty? I just picked up a pluto and they have a 2 year warranty that comes with the purchase. Just curious if this is something that can be remedied, even though it should have happened in the first place.
What would've qualified as "brilliance" or "genius" here is if Swatch had developed a new Sistem-type chronograph movement, used something other than bio-ceramplastic for the case materials (carbon?) and created a piece with some longevity for consumers. The MSRP could certainly be higher, but it would feel less like Happy Meal horology for those wanting to buy into Omega prestige.
The near-term benefits to the Omega and Swatch brands aside, in terms of simple quality for price my money was better spent on the Speedmaster homage by Pagani with the Seiko VK63 movement and sapphire crystal. It was ridiculous for Omega/Swatch to make this watch out of bioceramic with a plastic crystal fused to the watch so it cannot be replaced - plus a cheap movement. While I don't mind any company producing a more affordable version of their own popular product, deliberately making one of such obviously poor quality actually does more to hurt their brand than help in the long run after the hype dies down and the problems start to surface. Yeah, it was great to see the lines at the stores for a simple watch, the online enthusiasm, and even the crazy resale prices - but just how many people will get turned off in the end because they got burned by poor quality? Unfortunately, I think it will be too many.
I thought and eventually did the same thing and bought the Pagani Design PD-1701 V3 for like 70 USD on the sale. MoonSwatch is a brilliant idea but essentially what you get is an overpriced toy.
The problem for Omega is that they had to do it with Swatch, like they did. If they made a cheap version, similar to a Pagani Design and call it an Omega and sell it for $200, it will cheapen their image immeasurably. So they had to do it this way, with the Moonswatch being a sort of caricature of the real deal. And that is all right.
I was in Rome yesterday while on holiday and I thought I’d check out the MoonSwatch. Heck, maybe even walk out of the Swatch boutique with one. Walking round the corner in to Via del Corso I saw there was a big queue outside of the shop. Apparently there still is high demand for this watch. To be honest, I would have bought one to if I wasn’t ready to wait for an hour in 40 degrees centigrade. Now I’m glad I didn’t.
Fun novelty watch with pricy entry ticket. Just got the Earth. It does feel light and cheep. But the chase shape and Omega logo makes me smile with no real explanation...
Unfortunately, I can’t say I’m not surprised. Like you , I admire the concept. I even admire the asthetics, but as soon as anything is done “on the cheap”, the liklihood of failure increases exponentially. I was ignorant if the impening Moonswatch release until the night before. On the morning of the release, I went to my local Swatch retailer and gawped at the queues. As I walked home, dejected, I looked at the Omega Speedmaster 38 on my wrist and thought to myself…… WTF am I thinking about? When would I ever wear the Moonswatch in preference to my Speedmaster? The simple answer was never. Since then, I’ve watched the reviews change from unequivocal conceptial support, to downright criticism. I’m sure many will remain fully supportive of their purchase. For what it’s worth, I’ve aways been a believer in whatever makes you happy has worth and value. But, even if you ignore financial value and consider only build quality and reliability, I’ll stick with my Speedmaster 38 and be forever grateful that I didn’t wast my mney on a Moonswatch.
Moonswatch is a brilliant concept and hit the nail on the head with marketing. How they chose to release them was horribly executed. They also failed with build quality as we see here with yours and of course the bioceramic dying people's wrists. I wanted one, but I'll spend my money elsewhere.
I agree with you about the build quality issues. I own one of Swatch's own three hand bioceramics(the white one), actually a very simple and comfortable watch and not pretending to be something it isn't.
"Hit the nail on the head with marketing". Well, it aint rocket science. All they did was limit the supply which is sales 101 from 100 years ago and added the FOMO aspect attracting Crypto and NFT owners.
I suppose the Omega branding is what fuels the hype behind the MoonSwatch. Otherwise, it mystifies me why anyone would opt for this toy over the Bulova Lunar Pilot (which is more expensive, but not by much, especially when you factor in the FAR superior specs).
Great choice 👌 I would add the Seiko Flight Master aswell. A total spec monster for the the $ 200m wr, chronograph function, alarm and screw down pushers
@@lonewolfemcquade8133 The Seiko is a great call. But if one desires a watch with true space provenance nothing except the Speedmaster beats the Bulova Lunar Pilot.
The genius behind all the hype is making people think they get a cheap omega, while actually they get a very expensive swatch.
Brilliantly correct
This
They got an expensive cheap watch instead of a cheap expensive watch. Very good observation!

Good choice
You definitely did.
Literally any budget Casio or Timex watch would hold up better than a happy meal Swatch.
Literally not a good comparison at all….
It sounds like you didnt want a swatch, you wanted an omega
@@borion7775 I think you misread my post. I’ve had an Omega Speedmaster Pro for years (2007 to be exact) and was looking for a daily beater. @@duckmcf aaahh i see, appreciate you clarifying. That makes sense!

Here’s the thing; not only both brands needed the hype, but also the watch hobby as a whole needed it. But up to this point, I think it’s safe to say that the hype got RIDICULOUSLY out of hand.
Yeah, man. This could all go to hell in a handbasket one day 😝
It’s really a shame that they need the hype.

Still have my first piece and over 30 now, if that adds some perspective…
Their customer service is terrible and I regret buying the omega even though I love the watch and knew Swatch had acquired Omega years ago.
I will never buy anything from the Swatch group again and will avoid buying overpriced pieces models because there is virtually no service after purchasing.
This happen to me as well.

You’re still over valuing it. You can get a Chinese made quarts Chronograph that doesn’t fall apart like this for $3 on aliexpress
@@elgoog-the-third bioceramic is just cheap platic . i ve never had a swatch that lasted more than a year before breaking. Swatch is all design and absolute shit built quality
I absolutely love the concept and wish more companies would do these types of collaborations… I just wish they would have used a nicer movement
Jeez you dodged a bullet there!
PRX is indeed a solid choice. The quartz and the automatic version. Difinetly something to pass on to your grandchildren.
Man the PRX is class. Just got myself the green one ❤
I came on to ask the same question
Yeah swatch will repair or replace under warranty I am pretty sure.
@@kls1912 Unless he somehow got it from a third-party or he thinks that the warranty won’t cover what might seem to be careless use?
@@brianmccord7387 yeah fair enough for the 3rd party but if he bought at swatch pretty sure it will be covered
I loved the idea behind it, but once I learned it was a plastic watch with 50m WR for $250 that you have to jump through hoops to get, I quickly lost interest.
This video makes me feel better I almost man cried when I was too late to get the moonswatch. Thank you for this.
Well said.
Hard to beat Casio, value for money is excellent.
Glad to hear you’ve accepted that it’s simply a lump of plastic. Overhyped, overpriced and hopefully the relentless listings on eBay will slow up!
Ive got a normal Speedmaster reduced and the Moonswatch feels like somthing you will get with a Happy Meal.
Its utterly cheaply made imho
"There’s no emotion in online buying. It’s a carefully produced Swiss Made watch and not a commodity" - Nick Hayek, Swatch Group CEO, explaining why the Moonswatch would not be sold online.
And yet nearly every other Swatch is available online, which begs the question: are they all poorly made commodities?
The Moonswatch is as "Swiss Made" as a package of Swiss Miss hot chocolate 😂
That was the biggest watch BS from 2021.

That Seiko GMT is twice the price no?
@@turbochoochoo I understand the Seiko is ~$300 more. The MoonSwatch is $260, and the GMT is $475 in steel. I rather pay slightly more money and get the steel watch with Seiko’s quality. My Mission to Mercury MoonSwatch is still fine, but that is not a defense of what happened to yours. I have had mine since 3 weeks after launch, but it is not my daily wear.
I'm not sure about that last point. The fact that MS was all the rage for a few month doesn't make it prominent from historical perspective.
Why do we care about the company's history with another company? Because this watch is pretty much a copy and an unreliable one.
I’ll stick with my Speedmaster, thanks for sharing Adrian
Any tips on where to buy a pre-owned watch? In the market for a cheap Seiko 5 to put a Nato strap onto.
My Swatch Sistem51 also failed in movement after a year, advertising says it is anti-magnetic but I doubt so
My 30 year old vintage quartz Cartier still works without a hitch. That’s what a real watch is
if you bought full set(box and papers and warranty card) there is 2 years warranty of MoonSwatch - just make sure AD stamped warranty card with date and retailer stamp and wrote model number
Yeah, I would even say that the 30 year old quartz and automatic Swatches are still good quality(I own a couple).

I also have the Jupiter as they had it as I walked past the store. It scratches so easily. A gust of wind and I have a new scratch on the “glass”. Too bad they produce them from such poor quality components. I do not recommend buying these. They are fun but not worth it.
Such a good point. I should have mentioned. The glass is painfully weak.

Did it came with two Straps? I love this model of yours… What name it is??
What I can say is, wow… if others had this interaction I’d have to imagine this is a negative in the long run. Could you imagine some young person who wants a real Speedmaster gets this to satisfy the want for a few years till they can afford a real Speedmaster? Then this breaks on them? I’d imagine they probably wouldn’t hold a real Speedmaster in such high regard anymore.
Your comment is beyond comical. 😂

Hey similar thing happened to my omega speedMaster pro (sapphire sandwich). One of the pushers came off. Of course omega serviced the watch under warranty including changing both the pushers and the crown. I had owned the watch for just 2.5 months

I would have lost my shit if a pusher broke off my watch as normal wear and tear. The games with the distribution of the moonswatch completely killed it for me.

@@Jaggedhalo66 Of course they do.

God look and if you can spare throwing your money for this junk....
Have fun, Alex
there's not excuse for not making an infallible item for sale when you're two of the biggest watch brands on earrth.
I’ll stick with Seiko SKX as a cheap daily. Never let me down, …..but it does lose a few seconds every day!
Adjust it to be slightly fast .You will never be late and it combats the aging/slowing down over time .
This is still 5% of the cost
And only worth .5% of the cost
I had a friend who recently bought a speedmaster from somewhere in the early 2000’s who’s pusher fell off after he bought it. No one could fix it and he had to send it to omega. Omega did a full service and repair. $1100 and 3 months later he got it back and 3 days later the crown broke off. So……
The speedmaster pushers are easily replaced. There's plenty of watchmakers who can service it. Omega servicing is nearer £800, independents half that. My Speedmaster is now 55 years old, it's a quality watch and not what you suggest. Is your nose growing?
@@bikeman123 independent watchmakers couldn’t get the parts they needed.
I call BS. Any competent watchmaker can fix that while you wait. Plus, a full service on a Speedmaster is only $750 through Omega. That price includes new pushers and crown too.
I have the Misson to Pluto. I like it. I liked it even more after I swapped out the nato for a rubber strap. It's a nice summer watch.
Is there no warranty? Even the cheapest of watches usually come with a year warranty.
The best thing about the MoonSwatch is that it introduced me to the MoonWatch. Walked into an Omega Boutique asking for a MoonSwatch😅, found out how pretty the MoonWatch really is
whoa... that cost 20x more!
Hey Adrian,
Can you recommend a few good websites where one can possibly buy these preowned watches at the price you mentioned in your video?
Cheers
Is something like this covered under the service warranty? I just picked up a pluto and they have a 2 year warranty that comes with the purchase. Just curious if this is something that can be remedied, even though it should have happened in the first place.
What would've qualified as "brilliance" or "genius" here is if Swatch had developed a new Sistem-type chronograph movement, used something other than bio-ceramplastic for the case materials (carbon?) and created a piece with some longevity for consumers. The MSRP could certainly be higher, but it would feel less like Happy Meal horology for those wanting to buy into Omega prestige.
That's exactly how this should have been done.
That approach would also allow to level up Swatch's brand value.
The Omega name doesn’t belong on this watch at all
So it was ridiculous for the Moonswatch to be made like every other Swatch...interesting
@@xmasinpacific No, it was ridiculous for the Moonswatch to be made like every other Swatch while having the Omega name on it.
Imagine working in 40 degrees c. That’s Kenya for you
@@Mpayne1472 I made polyester for 11 years and that was a regular temp in our plant. Comfort is relative.
@@Mpayne1472 I know, first world problems.
I walked into swatch in houston today and got a pluto
@@Mpayne1472 I meant my problem. I know what your saying, but what does that have to do with buying a watch?
Fun novelty watch with pricy entry ticket. Just got the Earth. It does feel light and cheep. But the chase shape and Omega logo makes me smile with no real explanation...
Have they restocked the watch yet? As far as i'm aware they only delivered the initial release stock?
Is this not a case of warranty? Normal usage, two months and it breaks.
I have this exact Moonswatch, what width nato do you have on it? Love the look.
