20 years ago I had a lathe. And after creating candles for all my family I finaly sold it to a furniture restotator. Had I seen this and all the other beautiful art you make, I would never have sold it. I never thought that this was possible.
this is a pretty piece of raw wood, & Andy, this finished piece is magnificent, a double contrast of wood surfaces & color, could be my all time favorite!!!

I must admit, I always imagined poplar was unsuitable for woodturning, I’ve always refused offers of free timber. I’ll know better next time. A beautiful outcome!

At the office furniture factory I used to work in, we used poplar as frame stock. We would upholster over it because it would accept staples and nails better than oak and maple. I have to say the grain turned out beautiful when you applied the finish.
Thanks.. same here with poplar we call it tulip . I only ever used it for a stable wood to paint on cabinet frames I'm not keen on it unless it's coloured in some way ..Cheers
