  • In this video i wanted to see if I could make a bowl out of some sopping Wet Poplar Wood and how it will warp and or crack in the drying process, i'll keep you posted.
As luck would have it my neighbor Darrel was having a poplar tree taken down so I asked him if i could take some of the wood, he said no so i took some when he was sleeping anyway!
Let me know if you have any questions and if you recognized the tune at the end of the video that my daughter was attempting to play?
I answer and or respond to all comments.
    Thank you

That is a beautiful natural edge bowl. It good to see there are still some traditional turners. It seems that most are going for woos - resin hybrids. Phil Anderson would be proud.

Nice looking piece. FYI poplar takes a water based stain really well. My brother finished a room with poplar t&g and i thought yuck. But he used a water base stain which brought out some unbelievable grain. Who knew?

Nice straight forward piece. The colour changes look like that was quite a green? are you not concerned about warping?

Thought id start.of easy and work my way up as my skills improve. so far no warping or cracking I shellaced it to death, hoping that would keep the moisture into allow it to dry slower, then i'll come back and re-turn it. and yes it was really wet.
