    When the frames of video equal to the spins of the wood, the wood becomes stable. That's very interesting scene. Good job. Thank you.

    You truly open up my imagination as I look around at all the wood around me just waiting to be reborn. It is easy to be self limiting. Thank you.

    It is amazing to see that a piece of wood that most people will chuck it into the fire, turns into an object of beauty. You have a remarkable skill. thanks you for posting this.

    Hi Andy, this is a truly beautiful piece. The green resin adds that hint of colour. I have to say, I love to see a manual worker with beautifully clean hands, and especially clean nails. Your hands are real gentleman’s hands. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us. Xxx

    Once you had your way with the piece of Beech firewood, the finished product created more aesthetic warmth than it would have created physically when burning in a fire. And, of course, it’s still warming hearts whilst the firewood would have turned to ash. Bravo Andy!

    Quote, "I saved this gnarly piece of Beech from a firewood pile.. I didn't really have a plan" Yep, as soon as I read that I knew what was coming up, it looks great. Live edge and gnarly, I see a few good wood turners on TH-cam produce this kind of art and have to remind myself in the greater world of woodwork they are quite rare. Such a lovely piece Andy, thanks for sharing 👍

    Hi Andy, always amazed at your ability to see shapes and possibilities from the most unusual lumps of wood, the tree-root from the reservoir in particular. When you finished hollowing I thought "thats nice", shame about the bit of live edge that got tore off, then you mount the piece vertically on that contraption on the lathe (what was it - never seen that before) and then you tidy up the edges and apply a flame to even up the colour and effect. Brilliant idea and produced a stunning piece. You've certainly taught me to look a lot more closely at my scrap wood pile to look for possibilities and to just see what you end up with. Great video.

    Firewood! Colored epoxy! Fire! Prolly don't need to tell you I liked this one :-D I'd love to have you in my shop, Andy. Give you a pile of 20-24 inch logs, stumps & crotches, the sparker for my various propane torches, introduce you to my sandblasting cabinet, and point out the cabinets where my pressure pot/vacuum chamber, power carving, piercing and airbrush gear live... Then show you how to forge out some Russian lathe knives and hook tools (I spent some time binging on vids of crazy [and crazy skilled] Russian turners and *had* to make these tools for myself). Ah, will never happen -- but fun thought. Clyde

    It’s really cool how early on the rotation was synced with the camera frame rate but even just the slightest cut depressed the rpm juuust enough that the piece started spinning to the camera

    When the rotation speed of the wood and the frame rate of the camera match and it appears to be not rotating, that looks pretty cool.

    • @MCBWoodworks
      @MCBWoodworks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shanghaimartin I was thinking the same thing! Then started thinking about calculating lathe rpms, frame rate and speed increase to accomplish that.

    • @Shanghaimartin
      @Shanghaimartin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also interesting to see how when he starts scraping, it 'appears' to start rotating backwards, showing that the scraper is actually affecting the RPM :)

    • @MCBWoodworks
      @MCBWoodworks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true! I have had a GoPro on a fat bike with the tire in view and it looked like it spun backwards the whole time.
