Harri, another bit of my musical history, Nazareth are from Dunfermline in Fife Scotland, now, around the early 70's I started going to concerts in the world famous Glasgow Apollo, I've seen NEIL YOUNG, THE EAGLES, THE STONES, STATUS QUO, DEEP PURPLE, RORY GALLAGHER, IRON MAIDEN, and many more, the only band that had everyone out of their seats from the first intro were Nazareth. DAN McCAFFERTY - VOCALS, MANNY CHARLTON - GUITAR, PETE AGNEW - BASS AND DARRELL SWEET - DRUMS the original band, recommendations, BROKEN DOWN ANGEL, HAIR OF THE DOG, THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT, RAZAMANAZ, VIGILANTE MAN, ALCATRAZ, I could be here all night, P.S. Axel Rose is quoted as saying Dan McCafferty is his favourite singer and Guns and Roses covered HAIR OF THE DOG. Take care kid.
They were able to achieve such a massive tone that is still sought by guitarists to this day! I believe one of the guitarists was an engineer at Kodak so he tweaked his own gear and got amazing tone!
The Everly Brothers sang this in the early 60s. Nazareth is a great band. Try "Miss Misery" or "Please Don't Judas Me" or even "Hair of the Dog" (now you're messing with a SOB)
@@taco2947 It was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant a married songwriting team who wrote songs for the Everly Brothers (All I have to do is Dream, Wake up little Suzie, and By By Love...Roy Orbison....Buddy Holly) These two wrote Rocky Top, which is now Tennessee's College Fight Song.
My brother played lead guitar in a classic rock band and they let me sing this. He passed away in May, and I'll never be able to listen to this song without tears in my eyes. I miss him so much.
Best cover of a pretty old song that was written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. It was first recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960. Roy Orbison recorded it in 1961 as the B-side to "Running Cared".
"This Flight Tonight" is a Joni Mitchell tune that Nazareth does a serious number on! Dan McCafferty is a one of a kind singer. There is no one else that I've heard come close.
Has some great songs. Unique voice and their songs show a range of talent and ansqst from whiskey frinkin woman to hair of the dog to beggars day. And more.. Greats songs to do reactions to.
That guy could sing and at times he did as if his life depended on it. It probably did, it was bread and butter as well. These guys were so f***ing great as a band and they for sure still have many fans out there.
RIP Darrell Sweet (drummer)... Pete Agnew is on Bass, Manny Charlton on lead guitar and what a mean slide he plays...And that amazing Dan McCafferty on vocals.
Every teenager back in the 1970s had Nazareth's Greatest Hits 8 Track tape in their car. Ha, ha, ha! Try "This Flight Tonight" which was written by Joni Mitchel (of all people) and turned into a monster hit by Nazareth! 💖🎶🎸
Good Lord the memories this song invokes. Late 80's, loosing my only love, God only knows how many times I played this over and over. Still single, the bachelor hermit on the hill, never going through that again. I enjoy your work Harri.
4:52 This actually a cover of an Everly Brothers song from 1960. This is the fourth version of the song, but the best one imo. The others don’t reflect the pain of heartache like this one does.
I think Graham Parsons wrote and performed this song originally. On another note, I think Axl Rose modeled his vocal style off of this guy. I can hear the influence for sure.
This song was on the Hair of the Dog album released in 1975 or 1976. It's the only ballad on that album, but there are some great bangers on it: Hair of the Dog Miss Misery among others. Very interesting band when you explore their whole body of work. Lead vocalist was Dan McCafferty (I say "was" because, though he is still alive, he's retired from singing for health issues).
My mum went to a party with Dan and the Band and others in their heyday. They were also the inspiration for Guns n Roses and Axl Rose especially loved them. And I still stay in Dunfermline where the Band was founded like the previous comment said. They were groundbreaking. Listen to this flight tonight as well. Broken down angel is another rock ballad classic. So proud to call them our own in Fife.
This is one of my favorite songs. Written by the prolific Bryants, it has been often covered. This version by Nazareth is my favorite, they have a very full sound. Joan Jett covers it well as well. Also Rod Stewart. The words vary somewhat, I like the 'flame' version vs the 'stove' version.
I was just a kid when this album came out. I remember when my brother would leave for work, we would sneak and play it on the turntable.... Good Memories!!! Try Don't Judas me......
I first heard this song in a movie when I was like 12 and I loved it instantly found out years later that the band is Scottish and was mind blown because I’m Scottish and had no clue haha
Absolutely brilliant. So much depth of feeling and emotion in Dan McCafferty's voice. This song brings back happy of memories of sessions spent in the pub with my mates in about '78. If I remember rightly, this song was released as a double-A side with the band's cover of Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight" and was on the pub's juke-box. It was definitely a favourite of ours.
Nazaraeth had a great sound! This song was written by Boudleaux Bryant. The husband and wife team, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant wrote many Everly Brothers hits (All I Have to Do Is Dream" (credited solely to Boudleaux), "Bye Bye Love", and "Wake Up Little Susie"). "Love Hurts" was originally recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1960 and was included on their album but was never released as a single.. Roy Orbison had the first hit with it in 1961 in Australia
Don Everly said they wanted to release it as a single, but they had just left Cadence Records to go to Warner Brothers and there were some legal disputes. They had a falling out with their manager, Wesley Rose, who's father was the founder of Acuff-Rose Publishing, and he had the Everly Brothers sign up with them, so they didn't have control of much of their own material and couldn't release it as a single. It's a shame, because you had to have a single to get wide radio play back then. Most DJ's at the time wouldn't play cuts off an album. Roy Orbison probably would have hit with it in the U.S., but the record company didn't have confidence in the song, so they made it the B side of "Running Scared". Still, it got so much airplay in Australia that the charts showed it as being a single with two A sides!
Oh Harri thank you thank you for finally getting to one of the greatest bands and vocalists of all time. I am grateful to have seen them live in 83. Dan's vocals will blow you away... Kentucky Fried Blues is a must do. Expect No Mercy and anything from that album is going to be fire trust me, Holiday is a awesome song also...Thanks. Enjoy these guys, one of my all time favorite bands..
Nazareth has many great songs, and this is their best known and possibly their best work. The feeling they put into it is breathtaking. Their cover of "Shapes of Things" is another powerful piece. And, maybe it's just my personality, but my favorite is "Glad when you're gone".
Wore out this cassette in my tent at summer camp! Entire album is awesome!! My favorite version of this song is Emmie Lou Harris and Graham Parsons!! 😃
Dan died in the last year or so as I recall. I hope to see and hear that you cover more of their songs. "This Flight Tonight" is great, they covered an old Joni Mitchell song, plus many others.
This is actually an older song by Roy Orbison. Roy of course sings in a lower register, but both are great versions. this song is atypical of their style, and they are usually a little more uptempo. They do have some mellow songs that they wrote. I saw these guys in Montreal 1981. Excellent.
My hometown band. I remember them in my youth. Dunfermline also produced Barbara Dickson and the Skids. You should check out some Skids songs. They were playing at the local football stadium in Dunfermline about 4 years ago, I had tickets but unfortunately ended up in hospital. I could faintly hear them from my hospital bed and was gutted.
Dan McCafferty himself said that he wasn't the one who wrote these lyrics, but he would really like to have written them because it had everything to do with him and the band and the composer said that he wrote them to be sung exactly in his voice.
This song was originally written & performed by The Every Brothers, in the 1960's... Also, Cher sang it. Each recording is different. Nazareth also sang This Flight Tonight, which has a totally different tempo . & It is a favourite of mine.
Wrong info. Everly brothers only covered this masterpiece of song written by Boudleaux Bryant. He died in Tennessee about 35 years or so ago. Him and his wife were a song-writing duo. They wrote many beloved songs that you would know but probably not know it was them who wrote it. They are featured in the country music hall of fame in Nashville.
Hehe this came out when I was a teenager, spending weekends in pool halls with friends, playing air guitar with the pool cue. We became pool sharks, great air guitar players, and lip syncers. Lol. Next you should listen to their This Flight Tonight, a Joni Mitchell song they cover.
Just ran across this review. First time seeing you. Love your REAL expressions of this song. Hair of the Dog is great as well as others. Think I’ll check you out some more plus I really like your laugh. Looking forward to enjoying more great music. 😎
I really want to say this this song would be a great ad for my college football University of Memphis I also thought of Black and Blue from Van Halen , but it would be great for ANY college football

I can see that, Axl's voice is not dissimilar to Dan's.
They came all the way to Cheboygan Mich. What a treat! And the bag pipes-Wow
Killer!
Lucky enough to see many great vocalist live in the early 80s... McCafferty was right up there with the best
That guitar solo has sent chills down my spine for decades. Never gets old.
It's as though he's mimicking the anguish in the singers voice... heartbreaking.
They were able to achieve such a massive tone that is still sought by guitarists to this day! I believe one of the guitarists was an engineer at Kodak so he tweaked his own gear and got amazing tone!
It is literally crying. Amazing performance!
Dan has the perfect voice for this song..Like he's been through some shit and he knows how it feels..
agree. I love the guitar in this song too, I don’t know what you call that sound but I love it, goes right through you
One of the most powerful rock ballads ever.
It's a cover of a song by The Everly Brothers. I'm a huge fan of both this version and the original. Joan Jett also does a very worthy cover.
Tom Keifer and Joana Dean do a duet of it. It's amazing th-cam.com/video/DBcsTK8Dl6w/w-d-xo.html
This song brings me back to my twentieth year. That voice is as haunting and passionate today as it was then! Great! ✌️
His voice reminds me of Brian Johnson. Gritty and just gorgeous.
The Everly Brothers sang this in the early 60s. Nazareth is a great band. Try "Miss Misery" or "Please Don't Judas Me" or even "Hair of the Dog" (now you're messing with a SOB)
It was written for them .
I think Graham Parsons wrote it. I think??

All 3 of those songs are great songs
My brother played lead guitar in a classic rock band and they let me sing this. He passed away in May, and I'll never be able to listen to this song without tears in my eyes. I miss him so much.
Love hurts, love scars, love wounds and marks....love Nazareth.
Mars*
What a great song!
This is amazing. Always has been
You can even see the guitarist suffering while he's playin' the solo! Real great song!!!
Great cover, made it their own. That guitar solo while simple is effective. It sounds like the guitar is crying out to the sky in pain asking…why me?
Well said, exactly!
Broken Down Angel.
Best cover of a pretty old song that was written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. It was first recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960. Roy Orbison recorded it in 1961 as the B-side to "Running Cared".
His voice is a mix of Rod Stewart & Steven Tyler & Freddie M ! Have always loved Nazareth 🏴!!🎸😻🎶☮️
I think this singer also the band underated this kind of voice is so unique
Think about how cold this world would be without rock and roll.
"Love is like a cloud
Holds a lot of rain
Love hurts"
Got that right.
Even the guitar was crying
Beautiful song
"This Flight Tonight" is a Joni Mitchell tune that Nazareth does a serious number on!
Dan McCafferty is a one of a kind singer. There is no one else that I've heard come close.
You’re right. This is the perfect voice for this song
Just caught this. Epic song, vocals. Nazareth was a huge band.
Has some great songs. Unique voice and their songs show a range of talent and ansqst from whiskey frinkin woman to hair of the dog to beggars day. And more.. Greats songs to do reactions to.
Can't get enough of this song...so full of emotion and pain...keep wanting to hear it.....

@@maryellenazack4466 Absolutely.

Yeah Boudleaux Bryant man, him and Felice wrote sooooo many great songs.
I think Graham Parsons wrote and performed this song originally. On another note, I think Axl Rose modeled his vocal style off of this guy. I can hear the influence for sure.
It was written by Mr Bryant, I think his name was. The Everly bros originally recorded it but Nazareths version put it on the map.
This song was on the Hair of the Dog album released in 1975 or 1976. It's the only ballad on that album, but there are some great bangers on it:
Hair of the Dog
Miss Misery among others.

I WANT TO DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU 😍-NAZARETH
Hair Of The Dog please. You will see a complete 180 from this.
Cant get off the Harry Channel. All the great music I grew up listening to. Your followers make some great suggestions!
those were the days no autotune but pure raw talents
I saw them live 1984 in Varberg Sweden, I was 21. No worries, a whole life ahaed of me, life was good.🥳❤️

I first heard this song in a movie when I was like 12 and I loved it instantly found out years later that the band is Scottish and was mind blown because I’m Scottish and had no clue haha
Everyone who's had love go bad feels like theirs was the most painful of them all. This song lets you know how far off you are.
Absolutely brilliant. So much depth of feeling and emotion in Dan McCafferty's voice. This song brings back happy of memories of sessions spent in the pub with my mates in about '78. @@ptournas - Great stuff thanks for the info!
Suggested Nazareth: "Hair Of The Dog," "Where Are You Now," "Dream On" (not a cover of Aerosmith) and "Please Don't Judas Me."
Son of a bitch-nazareth is brilliant 👏👌🙌

Ah Scottish talented musicians
My first concert was going to see Nazareth and Blackfoot. Both put on a good show
Nazareth has many great songs, and this is their best known and possibly their best work. The feeling they put into it is breathtaking. Their cover of "Shapes of Things" is another powerful piece. And, maybe it's just my personality, but my favorite is "Glad when you're gone".

"you can hear the pain..."

This was done earlier by Roy Orbison. That is also a great version you should listen to.
"Hair of the Dog" - What a killer album. "Please don't Judas Me" - "Whisky Drinkin' Woman" - Miss Misery" - Beggars Day" - All killer / no filler.
Nazareth - Where are you now is another i love.
Dan McCafferty himself said that he wasn't the one who wrote these lyrics, but he would really like to have written them because it had everything to do with him and the band and the composer said that he wrote them to be sung exactly in his voice.
For starters: “Hair of the Dog,” “This Flight Tonight,” and “Razamanaz.”
That takes me back to 1986. 8th grade school dance and Martha Ann!!! She broke my heart lol
Hair of the the 🐕. Now you're messing with Nazareth! Love your channel, much respect from Massachusetts.

This Flight Tonight is awesome by them
another good one from nazareth is "dream on" that is another rock ballad
RE: Scottish bands, Bay City Rollers are from Edinburgh, and are apparently still active in some incarnation.
Roy Orbison did this song a long time ago, it sounds different because of the speed of the music
