Brad, you're 16, you're girlfriend just dumped you. You're heart broken, you walk into your room and this song starts playing. You're alone, tell me this wouldn't bring tears to your tender young heart.

"Are we supposed to enjoy, or empathize?" Little of both, I think Brad. There is beauty in pain, and it is certainly beautifully sung and performed. Songs like these are paeans, art that honors the experiences of life, rather than just straight pain. It is like the bittersweetness and beauty of autumn, which is beauty in death.

Nazareth covered the Everly Brothers. "Love Hurts" is a song written and composed by the American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by the Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is most well known from the 1974 international hit version by Scottish hard rock band Nazareth and 1975 Top 5 hit in the UK by English singer Jim Capaldi.

I used to lock myself in the bathroom and try to hit those notes in Love Hurts, ya know? And the only way I was able to do that was by practising with Unleashed in the East. So, I had to sing Judas Priest just so I could sing Nazareth - I don't understand that exactly..." --> AXL ROSE

A guy nobody ever heard of opened named Vic Vergat and got booed at first until he started playing, by the time his set was done he had the crowd wrapped around his fret board. He ROCKED!!! Joe Perry Project was next and they sucked, they got booed off the stage and the crowd started chanting for Vic Vergat! Nazareth did their set and blew the roof off. When they came out for the encore they brought Vic Vergat out to play with them and the crowd went insane!!! It was a night to remember.

Hey Brad & Lex..Just joined in.. enjoying watching you ...Dan McCafferty was a great singer for Nazareth from Scotland. He recently passed away... he is and will be greatly missed by all.. I've seen them several times live through the decades. A very great studio and live band. They have 42 albums to date...I'm sure there will be more to come in the near future. Thanks ..Keep It Up

I always thought the idea of the song was that love is both wonderful and painful. Sometimes it's even so wonderful that it can be painful, in a way. How your heart can ache when separated, or after a fight, that sort of thing. Whatever the interpretation, always loved this version of the song and Nazareth in general.
I will recommend a different cover song of theirs, one that I feel is underrated: My White Bicycle. There's something extra joyous about Nazareth's version of the song compared to the original (by Tomorrow).

I've been listening to this album since I was a child and my mom had it. When I was 13, an older neighbor boy gave me his copy. I LOVE this album so much. Deeper cuts that are amazing and two of my favorites are Changin' Times and Whiskey Drinkin' Woman.

Hi Brad and Lex, Nazareth are a Scottish rock band formed in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1968, the lead singer is Dan McCafferty, he's now 76 years old and still performing today as a solo artist, he retired as Nazareth's lead singer in 2013, Nazareth themselves are very much still performing today with a different lead singer, I'm from Scotland myself!! 😀 😀
Hair of the Dog, and This Flight Tonight by Nazareth are worth checking out as well 😀 😀

What was funny was the fans who had only heard this song, then went to their live shows. Because their music was hard rock, this was the exception.

Yayyy Naz! They are from my own home town Dunfermline in Scotland. Welcome to Dunfermline Rock. Iain Anderson lead singer of Jethro Tull is also from here, then after Naz came The Skids and then my own favourites heroes and friends, Big Country. Nazareth are friends of my family too, often turning up at the pub at the bottom of our street where my Mum worked completely out of the blue with a truck full of gear to play a set.

One of many awesome songs from the "Hair of the Dog" album... most people aren't mentioning it, but "Please Don't Judas Me" from that album is one of those 'mind journey' type songs that will pull you in with it's almost mystic flavor and complete immersion in sound.

I think it's about something that most, if not all, of us have been through. When "love" disappoints and hurts. "I know it isn't true, I know it isn't true, whoooo whooo love hurts". He's been hurt by love, but doesn't want to believe that all love will end that way. I've been there, done that.

A must listen to song by Nazareth is “This Flight Tonight,” which was originally written by Joni Mitchell. This song, Love Hurts, was stable in the pool hall I used to go to with friends and cousins before we were old enough to get into the bars. We’d play air guitar with our pool cues between shots.

Focus how it makes YOU feel, not on the singer's pain. He's just the vessel bringing it to us. Focus on the words, the emotion in his voice, & relate it toward your own personal life. That's music 101.
