I'm sorry, but this video seems EXTREMELY misleading without even mentioned the RTMP streaming capabilities even once. You can wirelessly stream and there are many videos that show this feature without any issues. There are many streamers who use GoPros without any issues.
Did you watch the whole video? Because I mentioned the RTMP streaming video and even left the RTMP streaming loading process on the screen a *long* time to make a point
@@aaronpk Are you serious? I'm saying that you don't mention that RTMP can work for this same use-case, a multi-cam live-streaming scenario. As long as you have it set up in OBS, it doesn't matter if your using the ATEM or YoloBox-just use the RTMP connection in OBS, and there's your extra camera. If you are only talking about the specific use case of mobile, IRL, multi-cam streams without a computer, I guess it'd make sense. But then another complaint is that it doesn't look good in a studio environment. I don't think you briefly showing a loading screen makes this video any less misleading. Especially when most of your issues you solve by the end of the video! Yes, I watched all the way through. But whatever gets you clicks. I use a GoPro 7 Black as an "escape" camera during my streams (youth basketball). I have an Atem mini (base model) with 2-3 mirrorless camera and that GoPro. The GoPro gives a wide angle total during the game or while I have to adjust something with the other cameras. Not perfect but works fine.
You made extremely valid points, luckily for me, my GoPro will be sitting on a tripod with hyper smooth turned off, live-streaming in 1080p hooked on external power/ no battery so this should work perfect. Yes the cam overlay is annoying atleast it CAN be turned off. Thank you for the video

I want to live stream on Twitch while fishing. I will use my mobile phone's internet. Do you recommend it or should I get a different device? Is the device's anti-vibration feature active during the live broadcast?
Im using usb-c from gopro Hero 9 black to pc or laptop, and i have no menu overlay. 1080p 60fps, no external battery, no capture card needed. 133 degree wide angle, and it's excellent in low light too. There is a delay with hypersmooth turned on and a slight delay with it off, but in obs you simply delay your audio to match the video. If you want to switch cameras, you set up multiple scenes in obs, and just switch them in obs, or set up the automatic scene switcher in obs, or route it to a midi device if you want to switch manually with hardware. Install the gopro webcam software on your PC. Start your PC and the camera turns on with all your settings loaded, start OBS and your good to go. You don't ever have to touch your gopro after you set it up. Also with the gopro webcam software you can change camera settings from your PC, or you can install the software on your phone/tablet and use that to change camera settings via bluetooth.
The webcam mode is the only way this makes sense to use it. But that means you're stuck using it only with solutions that can take a webcam input, not with larger hardware video switchers like the ATEM.
Agree, I got lucky when I started using my GoPro 7 for some local live-streaming of our USCG Aux District meetings with my ATEM Mini and Mini Pro ISO here in PDX. The Hero 7 is the crowd cam and works really well on a high light stand while using a couple other cameras for the details. I roll with a 10 for underway action cam work (I think my first was an HD Hero), with a few exceptions most of my good storytelling still comes out of the succession of DSLRs to mirrorless I've carried. As you note, where the GoPros shine is as action cameras. I've gotten a couple of minutes of footage I'd have gotten no other way because I had the camera mounted, could push the start button, and could go to work in my non-photographer/videographer role. Those were a few stories that mattered and, in my situation, justified the cost of the GoPro... but a new one only every 4-5 years.
I did buy a GoPro 10 for livestreaming to youtube, directly. It was promised. But it does not work. I a forum they say, it is not possible. But at website they say, it is possible. I did return the GoPro. Not a good choice.
This video is very timely for me as thinking of buying the GoPro for one of the inputs for my Atem Mini. Thank you for your honest comments. You just saved me some money and some frustration :)
Get hero 4 silver....thank me later ....the newer versions are bad for streaming but the older ones have clean HDMI output and are decent and cheap....with good lighting, u won't go wrong
Hi all, would just like to add from the experience I've made with GoPro Hero 5 Black cameras. I think they really work very well in a livestream setup. I've been livestreaming outdoor softball games for several years now and the Hero 5 is somehow really a work horse for me. Bought the ones I have used, some can't write to the SD card, some have been used very intensely, but all provide a 1080p60 video feed for a Atem Mini Extreme. Cooking the brightest sun at about +30° C, they just work. The one GoPro Hero 7 black I have is on the other hand much more unreliable. Constantly turns off, overheats much faster and so on. Of course, could be that one camera, who knows.
Used the GoPros for some IRL bike livestreaming before. Agreed the 7 is is much nicer, but it has some audio drift issues. The menu overlays on the 9/10 and I assume 11, are annoying. If you don't have a SD card in the camera you wont get stuck on the playback screen. Then its just a quick 4 presses on the power button and 1 on the record to clear the overlay and get a clean output.
I've been using a couple of GoPro's (6's and a 7) for replay angles and for the beauty shot of the entire arena, but yeah, they're not "real" cameras... The good things about them are the external power ability (I can easily power both the GoPro and an HDMI to SDI converter for a whole day on a 15 000 mAh powerbank), and the sturdiness (when you put it on top of the net post in a volleyball game, you don't want it to break as soon as it gets hit by a volleyball). But I'm still looking for a better solution with better indoor image quality.
I use a GoPro Hero 10 for Livestreaming my musical performances and it is extremely frustrating. I too, have the media mod and did a whole series about building a small case where I could take a feed from my mixer and send it to the Media Mod audio in. Half the time the GoPro simply ignores the audio line in, even when I have it selected on the menu. "Pull the battery" is the solution I hear frequently, and that simply is not practical when I have the GoPro in a Media Mod with a cold shoe on top. Have you encountered anything like this? What's another option you would suggest for livestreaming?
Thank you very much Aaron...!!!I was waiting to see if GP11 could do 4K live view - over wifi - while recording 4K , I used to record nesting progress , but now you see in your phone the image until you press the record button , and then you suppose to guess what are recording because the Live View goes black !!!! what a pity ...!!! I still use the GP4 , because still works in there , I wonder if there is a firmware hack we can install ????. In any case thanks for the video ....excellent ....cheeerrssss....OOOhhh and yes GoPro Labs videos and hacks the like excellent idea ..!!!
hERO 4 , bought used years ago and is still used today. On stage for overhead drums mainly. Recorded in cam for later editing but have used it for atem switching before today.
I'm using a gopro 10 with my atem mini extreme for lives and have an even worse problem. My audio delay is off by about 5 seconds, and that's with the hypersmooth off also...... also, don't forget that in an indoor livestream, you need to keep the area pretty cool... I've had mine shut off due to overheating before.... many times.
@@aaronpk Yeah... I guess I can still use the gopro for long form records, but it's a bummer that I need to pick up more cameras. Thanks for you content by the way. You taught me how to make cam switching macros on my atem....
@@JoesPhenomenal ahh so the audio from the mic in the ATEM is 5 seconds out of sync with the GoPro? That just means that the GoPro video is delayed by 5 seconds. That's surprising because when I tried disabling hypersmooth it reduced that delay a lot! Double check that you don't have any smoothing settings turned on at all, you should be able to get it down to something much better than 5 seconds. Still probably worse than the 8 frames that you can correct in the ATEM Mini but still will be an improvement.
@@aaronpk Ok... will check those hypersmooth setting.... also I will check the delay from my other cameras just to make sure it isn't happening with the others as well. Thanks!
Great video! Wish I saw this before I bought two Hero 9 Black cameras and started casting with them. Another issue you missed is they always have some kind of issue with powering on or recording to SD card. Frequent pain with these cameras.
It explained perfectly, I've been through all these problems, unfortunately it's the reality in my lives : - when I turn on 1 GoPro and 1 Logitech Brio (no problem) - but when 1 Go Pro and 2 Logitech, the audio is choppy
I'm looking for a cam that covers both cycling/hiking and home streaming. At the moment I lean towards a GoPro. Can't be worse than my C920 for home streaming. And if it is, the C920 will do fine, for now.
we tried to keep the video signal on the back screen of the Go Pro Hero 7 or Hero 10 with an HDMI cable connected to another monitor. Mission impossible. Thank you for this informative video.
tbh there isn't really a better option, it's kind of disappointing! But be sure to check out this video for tips on making the best of the situation th-cam.com/video/YUV4uMB60Mk/w-d-xo.html
I have this exact problem! Why make a media mod and give us HDMI out if it's not clean. Even when I toggle to clean once I get rid of it, the OSD comes back after two hours... Why not put this in the Quik app? The ability to take off the OSD... please gopro......
Absolutely agree! I first started with a Black Hero7 and I'm not mad at it for what I need. I've been experimenting with 9s and 10s recently (with media mods and max lens mod), I'm throwing in the towel. What do you recommend as a small portable cams that are plug and play for live streaming a band on stage with atem mini pro iso?
i use my go pro 11 for live stream djing with dj lights some what dark and 6 screens displaying vidoes and love the hell out of it ,no issues here at all
had the same issues with Hero 8 Black + ATEM Mini Pro... I Changed to cheap Akaso Cams. Instant clean out AND workswith Battery+USB Power at the same time. So you have failover, if you have a power loss (eg in IRL Streams). But I´ll try labs firmware now :)
Mostly agree with this, but their is one use that is a bit hard, video-podcasting with the camera on the microphone boom. But I would guess that Marshall industrial may be a better solution for that upset.
That's an interesting angle! Got any examples of what that ends up looking like? You might also look at the Sony RX0 II for that use case, it's the same size as the GoPro but isn't as frustrating to use.
Here's a question - I am on the board for a very small academic conference in my region. We've gotten a small grant to start to focus more on recording and streaming the annual conferences. The conference moves around so portability is a must, and there are some events and things at the conference that I may want to record or stream but discretely - that is, without an entire large tripod setup - and the compactness of the GP is appealing. I would say that in the case of our conference people care more about the audio than the video, so I am not too fussed about getting the best audio, and we don't have the money to hire professionals. Sometimes the papers given at the conference are at night or in halls not specially lit for speakers. Would the GoPro possibly be a good option for this? I used my Canon M50 this past year and it just couldn't deal with the light and came out looking poorly.
What would you recommend for filling the role of a gopro? I've been trying and ran into the same issue as you with the jostling of the hdmi port makes it reset and using it for what I wanted to (live streaming mountain bike rides) that was happening a lot. I have the lIveU Solo so HDMI is ideal. ATM I haven't found anything but I'll admit I haven't looked too hard recently.
I think it's a great option for an Action Camera AND a streaming camera. Otherwise - you have to buy two cameras. Thanks for the GoPro Labs feature - this may solve my issue where the HERO10 is only outputting 480p with the Media Mod while recording. Keen to see a GoPro Labs video!
You lost me when you criticized the GoPro for needing tons of light, then showing an *overexposed* shot in your studio... and then you praised the manual exposure feature. Get real. I use my GoPro Hero8 in a DARK studio environment and it's just fine, and better than some other "streaming" cameras I've tried.
I did a life stream on facebook and stopped the live after a few minutes but the option does not stop. I can't change the settings to camera nor timelapse. Please help. I reset it impulsively after changing it to "Extend Battery". Now I can't search my GoPro in my application. Even if I remove the battery the battery and put it back it does not work. It stays in "Live" now I can't change it
Hey Aaron, I was just thinking about getting the new Hero 11 or the Action 3 or maybe the insta360 X3 could you maybe do a comparison of the pros and cons of each for live streaming if you can get your hands on them?
I have the Hero 10, the Insta360 X2, and the DJI Action 2, so I can definitely compare those three, but I don't think I can justify buying each new version of them 😅 But I think actually not much has changed from the previous versions of each that is relevant to using them for livestreaming. I will work on putting this together tho! Any particular questions?
Am curious about this too! With the price and ease of use, I was excited to think about using them for live streaming multiple cameras. But if nothing has changed then is a no go :/
We are looking for a camera for live streaming church services, I was looking at a GoPro 10 or 11. What would you recommend in the $300-400 range if you don't think a GoPro would be sufficient? We have a Blackmagic ATEM and we pull audio straight from our soundboard, we just need something with decent video quality at a reasonable price point. Also something that has a remote for powering on and what not as it will likely be mounted from the ceiling. Thanks!
Oh if you want remote power on you're almost certainly looking at over $400. But you might be able to find a camcorder with a remote. I just did a demo in my last livestream of a $200 camcorder which looked surprisingly good. I don't think this one has a remote but take a look around a bit th-cam.com/video/TC6_TJ8qke0/w-d-xo.html
When I ordered the media mod for GoPro 8, connected the HDMI to my ATEN and discovered how much hassle you have to swipe through to get to the 'clean' HDMI output it made me laugh. Not only is the swiping extremely annoying, it also has some weird delay and it randomly doesn't work so you can't just do it my muscle memory when you have no monitor :D it's a truly grotesque experience! Also the low light output via HDMI is completely useless and with the ATEN CAMLIVE+ in mobile mode, connected to my Sony Xperia phone with external monitor app it only gets a very low resolution.
Hey there-thanks for your video! I was literally about to buy 2 (used) Hero5s to use for live-streaming some fitness classes for seniors where I work. Do you have recommendation for a cheap and simple (but mostly cheap) camera I could use for this? I was looking over documentation our new platform suggests, and one suggested camera alone was nearly half my total yearly budget :'( They also recommended an AJA Helo encoder and switcher... but all I want us to be able to stream two cameras and have some simple intro/outros, and as such I was planning on using OBS. Any advice is helpful... I'm learning live streaming hardware doesn't mesh too well with my nonprofit budget lol
The GoPro 5 doesn't have the problem of the newer GoPros that I mentioned in this video, so if you can get them at a good price they might still work for you. The other kind of cheap camera you can look for is cheap camcorders, which you'll fight with a lot less to get working for livestreaming
Got the hero 5. just for action scenes. I am impressed with the flow stabilisation on the insta RS I just bought. Do you think GoPros have a better stabilisation?
I don't think I've done a head to head comparison of the stabilization, but GoPros is really good. Honestly all stabilization has gotten really good in the last couple years tho.
This review was actually spot on, and I congratulate the effort. As echoed by other folks on here, I have used the GoPro Hero 7 as a B-roll or secondary "wide shot" and it does an adequate job. Like the Hero 10 you described, the Hero 8 also has the quirky menu, and you need the media mod for the HDMI output.
thanks great timing too -- i was looking at the gopro to sit on top of my bmpcc4K to act as a wide shot so had i didn't have lug around a 2nd chunky camera. glad i avoided that potential mistake. it'll be good to see more content at how other cameras, wireless transmitters, phones etc. interact with the yolobox or atems...i find that certain devices have their own quirks & are never straight forward to just plug & play. you end up regretting the purchase or having to find other sometimes expensive ways to work around the shortcomings.
Very nice video could you send me a link and where to get the download to try and live stream with a GoPro 10 if you have a video on that I would also like the link to that video thank you very much great video by the way
First time I hear about ATEM and Yolobox. Usually hearing Belabox or LiveU for outdoor streaming. Apparently also some older Sony cam which is no longer sold. And some DJI cam which is bad at night with image stabilization. Is the Hero 11 better? Doesn't GoPro know about those issues? Is that other firmware, the lab firmware official?
i have a hero 8 and 10 with yolobox for livestreaming dj sets. i used these cameras for motorsports but i dont want to buy another set of cameras. thanks for the video btw. ive been recording sets on the yolobox with that annoying battery and sd card overlay. i had no idea how to fix this.i was ready to get rid of the yolobox. a video showing the best lighting and settings for gopros in a studio would still be nice for those who want to try to get the best they can with gopro. 😁
Have you even see the GoPro 9 output to a atem mini just in size a ¼ of the regular video? So I do see a small webcam when I use the Balckmagic Desig wevxam source and switch to the channel the go pro is connected to
That's really strange, I haven't seen that happen but I have the GoPro 7, 10 and 11. Is there a setting in the GoPro for the output resolution? I don't remember seeing one in the GoPro 10
Is this happening all the time or only while the GoPro is recording? I found this page that talks about output resolutions: community.gopro.com/s/article/Media-Mod-HDMI-Output?language=en_US It mentions that the output resolution might downscale while recording in some modes.
So, what you suggest me for a best budget choice for wide angle action camera with clean hdmi out (with no fps drops and a stable 4k video signal) - i have quad recorder pci from blackmagic design. Thanx in advice
Aaron, thank you for this video - I thought about GoPro 8 with Mod, but now I see this would be a mistake. May I ask, which simple, cheap camera do you recommend for additional shots while live streaming? I need a camera for shooting an equipment or my desk above, so I need a camera with a clean HDMI output. Action cameras are not so good, so what instead of?
There isn't even an HDMI port in the DJI Action cameras, so it's not really an option. You'd have to use the RTMP streaming option to push to a local device like the Magewell Pro Convert, but then you'll be dealing with the significant RTMP delay too.
I use the hero 5 with a combination of other cameras for baseball live streams, and it is my go to camera for behind the plate since it is so rugged and can take a foul ball that other cameras wouldn't be able to handle. I completely ditched the 8, due to clean HDMI issues. Imagine mounting it 50 feet away from your Atem only to have to get the clean hdmi working. Horrible. One comment, a major fail with gopro live streaming via their app is the field of view. You can't adjust the field of view at all on a live stream, which makes it useless. GoPro doesn't care about live streaming, and it shows. They are interested in recorded action footage only.
You're right about the price difference between a Gopro 10 or 11 at full msrp and a mirrorless. with some wheelin' and dealin' I got a zv e10 with the kit lens for $500! a great streaming camera!
I wish I would have seen this video a day and a half ago !!! I livestream weddings, purchased two GoPros and have been TERRIBLY FRUSTRATED at the inconvenience; not to mention I cannot figure out how to get the hdmi output to work while recording on the gopro10... when I tap to record, the screen goes to black. I can only view my live hdmi output on my ATEM mini extreme when NOT recording... which pretty much ruins half of the purpose I purchased it for... more multi camera angle shots to edit footage, especially just b-roll cuts, to. Anyone have a workaround on the hdmi live view not working while the unit is recording???
Totally agree with the GoPro! But they had the GoPro so I didn't have to buy anything besides the media mod. Then I had to buy a ND filter (didn't know I could fit this in camera) and every time having to turn off the stuff for the clean FEED! I do all of this for the 20-second clip of the "WIDE STUDIO SHOT" while the intro is playing. I need to know how to do the GoPro lab thing you talked about!
@Aaron Parecki : what small camera is better for streamlive multicam with atem mini pro ? (actionCam ?, Dslr ? Compact ?) and what model ? in terms latency, size, battery usb-c power external. thanks
@@aaronpk Thing is, even a 14m DSLR lens is far less wide than the native GoPro or Osmo Action glass even after dewarping. For studios the G7 looks super affordable even as a kit (I checked your link and B&H).. I'm going to consider it. But in terms of wide coverage, I'm wondering what total cost would be after adding an ultra-wide that can look decent? Thoughts? I too am always looking for something tiny to use for Downstage-Center stage edges that can have a wide FOV
But Arron or anyone else, I need to carry on with my GoPro 12 Black and with a media mod. Investment made. I do have Quik and a paid gopro paid subscription. My goal is to bring my school to view my field work and I need to video my hands working on horses feet and legs, alone. So I have the head mount and chest mount. My goal is to stream using MS Teams. Im lost. Found you thankfully. I only need the GoPro, single cam view. Im happy to buy needed equipment. If you please steer me a bit further. I know I can stream with the on screen platforms, but I was hoping to use teams via Samsung S23 Ultra, if I can ever get the camera to link to the GoPro. Please, if you can advise I game!
What about this product to help you gopro and other devices to livestream: Accsoon SeeMo HDMI to USB Monitoring Adapter for iPhone/iPad, FHD 1920*1080 60fps H.264 Video Compression
I have gopro max and its just there useless unless I need to shoot underwater or something of that nature. I could use it to get wide angle shots at events during live streams, few folks gave some walk-around for streaming to rtmp and using it in obs, non walked.
I use two go pros (6 and 7) in my music livestreams/teaching setup along with an Atem mini. As a drummer I need wide angles to see all the details of what I’m doing so the GoPros made sense with my other two mirrorless cams. Interesting that you got that much delay cause after turning off hypersmoothing my gopro7 is basically one to one Btw Love your content and learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Finally! I hate GoPro's for streaming and have to fight to always get them excluded from projects. Plus the media mod (if you want hdmi out you need this with the GoPro9\10 etc) it makes the camera in hole crap becuase to access anything you need to take the whole mod off and unmount it since they have those stupid bunny ear connectors that feed through the mod. Ugh. I wish Sony continued with their action camera line.
I'm specifically looking for a head-mounted camera to use while cooking, and it seems like a GoPro is really my only option here. I plan on using RMTP to stream it to my computer, which will then hook into OBS to stream out onto YT/Twitch. Are there better options, or is the GoPro really the only way for now?
Honestly the DJI app is a lot nicer to use for RTMP streaming than the GoPro app. Scroll back thru this video to where I turned on the livestreaming feature, it took a long time. Plus with the GoPro you are forced to use the app, there's no way to start it from the camera. I really need to make this into its own video 😅
Bummer! I'm researching how to set up a livestream of butterflies in outdoor plantings. I'm having trouble finding something that is both weatherproof and able to do anything close to macro focus (6-18 inches). If anyone knows of such a camera, let me know!
I use my action cams on dozens of shoots annually, some post-edited, some live streamed. Most of my work is stage productions, and putting a few of these on the downstage lip can gather *stunning* images... the small form-factor is definitely wanted because of camera placement, and wide FOV (even in linear/dewarp mode) helps increase useable moments. For post-edits, my absolute fav go-to for those front-and-center shots is the original Osmo Action -- *far* more reliable than any GoPro I've owned -- never locks up or shuts down, beautiful images, very responsive controls and way more reliable WiFi connections than GoPro. For live streams -- sadly OA has no HDMI option so we DO use our GoPros which have HDMI out. Hero 3 Black -- worked fine (ports are now broken, camera is useless) Hero 4 Silver -- worked fine Hero 5 Black -- works well. All GoPro models after Hero 5 have failed miserably in our tests, and I had to return them. I tried the Hero 6, 7 and 10. The 6 and 7 proved unreliable; they'd lock up and stop recording mid-recording sometimes (used with USB/AC power, ProTune and WiFi on). I loved the horizon leveling on the Hero 10 (makes setup way easier!) but for all the reasons you mentioned we ended up returning it. :( I'd love suggestions for a perfect tiny-cam to use for those epic front-and-center shots that can be used with live streams without breaking the bank.
Interesting, never owned a GoPro and was looking at the new Hero11 as a do-it-all solution but I see as a webcam it sucks. Oh well! BTW there is no space between Hero and number 11, 10, etc. Could be useful for people doing a search, myself I never enter a space so I search for Hero11, not Hero 11. No worry you're not alone adding a space but wanted to point out the official way of writing it. Cheers!
I mean I have used a 9 I think with media mod. I had three batteries swell over time - I don’t think they stand up to all day heat from running/streaming/charging well. Note: I own 100 shares of GoPro. Be nice if it could run without a battery. They did send me one replacement battery. I am getting my daughter a ZV-10E AP-C cam - maybe she’ll let me borrow it at times :)
The way people cope with the heat when streaming using the Mediamod, is to run the GoPro without internal battery, powered of a USB powerbank with minimum 2A output on the port.
If you're wondering what that stand is for the ATEM Mini, you can find that and the YoloBox cage on my bike here! pk1.tv/?ref=aaronpk

Agree 100%. I have a GoPro Hero 7 Black for the stablishing shots (wide shot) in a lightstand for outdoor weddings! Thank you for your great videos!
Do not believe that guy says his telling lies
I did buy a GoPro 10 for livestreaming to youtube, directly. It was promised. But it does not work. I a forum they say, it is not possible. But at website they say, it is possible. I did return the GoPro. Not a good choice.
I've done it before but it was an extremely unpleasant experience and I would not recommend it for that.
I have for hero 4 silver so I know what am talking about
Hi all, would just like to add from the experience I've made with GoPro Hero 5 Black cameras.
I almost got a GoPro for my live streams. So happy i found this video
Then its just a quick 4 presses on the power button and 1 on the record to clear the overlay and get a clean output.
oh it didn't even occur to me to try removing the SD card! good tip!
is there anyway to live tream w a go pro on your head at work? wireless
Yeah it can do that, stream wirelessly, but it's kind of a pain to set up and pretty finicky.
My mind was blown when switching from GOPRO to the Sony RX0 MK2. And guess where I found out about that Sony actioncam? Thanks again @Aaron Parecki!
Too late already bought one, and it always overheats while live streaming, but great for action sports and surfing.
Definitely agree, I have GoPro 9, and I have the same bad experience with life-streaming
Hero 4 silver or black is the best for streaming...clean HDMI output and very cheap to buy if u can get one.
Whats a good camera todo 24/7 streaming with the yolo mini....clean hdmi out?
good question
Camcorders ....
Do you have a video with recommendations on which compact cameras to use for a multi cam streaming setup?
I would love to know what is recommended for a lightweight option that doesn’t take up space and will be pointed down.
Please tell us the DSLR cameras that are the same price as a GoPro!!!??
hERO 4 , bought used years ago and is still used today. On stage for overhead drums mainly. Recorded in cam for later editing but have used it for atem switching before today.
Thanks for the mention. And you're spot on: GoPro's are not a great choice for live streaming.
Yes!, I didn't know @Emerald had a YT channel. Now I subscribed 👍
so ? what camera is good for livestreaming ?
I'm using a gopro 10 with my atem mini extreme for lives and have an even worse problem. My audio delay is off by about 5 seconds, and that's with the hypersmooth off also...... also, don't forget that in an indoor livestream, you need to keep the area pretty cool... I've had mine shut off due to overheating before.... many times.
Yikes! You mean the audio is out of sync with the video? that's so weird!
@@aaronpk Yeah... I guess I can still use the gopro for long form records, but it's a bummer that I need to pick up more cameras. Thanks for you content by the way. You taught me how to make cam switching macros on my atem....
@@aaronpk oh... didn't mention... my mic is connected to the atem directly in the mic port... I expexted a few frames of delay, but geez. lol
It explained perfectly, I've been through all these problems, unfortunately it's the reality
in my lives :
- when I turn on 1 GoPro and 1 Logitech Brio (no problem)
- but when 1 Go Pro and 2 Logitech, the audio is choppy
I'm looking for a cam that covers both cycling/hiking and home streaming.
At the moment I lean towards a GoPro. Can't be worse than my C920 for home streaming.
And if it is, the C920 will do fine, for now.
I mean, if your baseline is the C920 then you will be very happy with a GoPro
we tried to keep the video signal on the back screen of the Go Pro Hero 7 or Hero 10 with an HDMI cable connected to another monitor. Mission impossible. Thank you for this informative video.
Huh. Good video and nice to be forwarned. Thanks!
How about a setup for running/trail running for live streaming during my runs.
what about live-streaming while driving? GoPro? any better options?
tbh there isn't really a better option, it's kind of disappointing!
That’s why asked about DJI OSMO Action 4 HDMI clean output Live as can connect Mics wireless then
Absolutely agree!
Thanks for doing this video! At the end of the day its an action cam not an on the go cam going studio/vlog style videos.
can you actually now live stream in 4k with the media mod ?
I was thinking about using my GoPro for DJ set as a Livestream but after your video maybe there is a better option.
I bought the gopro12 and now I'm sad. Please do another video with the QR codes if you haven't already.
Check out these tips! These should still apply to the GoPro 12! th-cam.com/video/YUV4uMB60Mk/w-d-xo.html
I was looking over documentation our new platform suggests, and one suggested camera alone was nearly half my total yearly budget :'(
They also recommended an AJA Helo encoder and switcher... but all I want us to be able to stream two cameras and have some simple intro/outros, and as such I was planning on using OBS.
Same experience also for me. Great video. Thks
I got the GoPro7 and use it for streaming and your points are very recognizable. Soo can you share a link for your best streaming cam recommendations?
and is it just me but when you use the hdmi live thing stabilization is not working ?(compared when you record)
I thought I had a clip in here showing horizon lock on the HDMI out but now I can't find it.
Iva also a mevo cam but not have decent stabilization. You can use to stream also without hdmi via phone app?
i have a hero 8 and 10 with yolobox for livestreaming dj sets. i used these cameras for motorsports but i dont want to buy another set of cameras. thanks for the video btw. ive been recording sets on the yolobox with that annoying battery and sd card overlay. i had no idea how to fix this.i was ready to get rid of the yolobox. a video showing the best lighting and settings for gopros in a studio would still be nice for those who want to try to get the best they can with gopro. 😁
I happen to have that exact video! th-cam.com/video/YUV4uMB60Mk/w-d-xo.html
@@aaronpk I cannot find the output setting in my GoPro 9 for that purpose. That's why I amsing
Is this happening all the time or only while the GoPro is recording? I found this page that talks about output resolutions: community.gopro.com/s/article/Media-Mod-HDMI-Output?language=en_US It mentions that the output resolution might downscale while recording in some modes.
What are you using to connect usb c cams ? I’ve got the yolo liv instream and it appears I’ll need a converter cable. Usbc to hdmi ?
I am wondering about new GoPro Hero 11 MINI to my IRL streaming with SRT and H265 encoding.
So, what you suggest me for a best budget choice for wide angle action camera with clean hdmi out (with no fps drops and a stable 4k video signal) - i have quad recorder pci from blackmagic design. Thanx in advice
I feel like this will overheat quickly for streaming on twitch. Does it?
I actually haven't had the GoPro overheat when using the HDMI out, only when recording internally for a long time.
Notice he never answers that one lol
Many thanks for this video. I learned a lot. How about the DJI Osmo Action 3 or the one that you have the Osmo Action 2?
There isn't even an HDMI port in the DJI Action cameras, so it's not really an option. You'd have to use the RTMP streaming option to push to a local device like the Magewell Pro Convert, but then you'll be dealing with the significant RTMP delay too.
@@aaronpk I was about to buy Osmo Action 3 until I saw your video.
The Osmo Action 3 looks like a great camera too! It just won't really be helpful if you're going to be using it with other live cameras.
@@aaronpk I bought PK1 Yolobox pro streamer cage. And will use this for our church streaming. Thank you for creating this. It is Awesome👍.
Thanks so much!
Hey would you care to try the latest Osmo Action 3 Camera for live streaming? It has built-in wifi streaming capability.
I'd love to, but I'm not going to buy one since I already have the DJI Action 2 and Pocket 2 😅
You're right about the price difference between a Gopro 10 or 11 at full msrp and a mirrorless. with some wheelin' and dealin' I got a zv e10 with the kit lens for $500! a great streaming camera!
that's a fantastic deal and an excellent camera! great find!
Compact ?) and what model ? in terms latency, size, battery usb-c power external.
thanks
I have a bunch of the Lumix G7 cameras around my studio, geni.us/sJFt You can usually find good deals on used ones on eBay or elsewhere too.
Great video I was about to get a go pro but now I’ll get other option!
Thx Aaron for this video. I was wondering about this topic.
So what mirrorless camera is just a little bit more than a GoPro?
A used LUMIX G7 will go a long way! I've bought a bunch for $500-600 and they're the main cameras I use in my livestream now!
Interesting that you got that much delay cause after turning off hypersmoothing my gopro7 is basically one to one
Btw Love your content and learned a lot from you. Thank you.
It's definitely a *lot* better without hypersmooth turned on, but significantly worse than my other cameras.
On GoPro with media mod you could use buttons to hide icons but this awful. I use GoPro labs with qr codes but not work stable
@@aaronpk you can start live stream in GoPro without app - just use GoPro Labs firmware and qr codes
Thanks, that was an interesting point of view
Great information. Thank you
Bummer! I'm researching how to set up a livestream of butterflies in outdoor plantings. I'm having trouble finding something that is both weatherproof and able to do anything close to macro focus (6-18 inches). If anyone knows of such a camera, let me know!
The question is: what are the best cameras that you can use with the YoloBox to livestream?
Hero 3 Black -- worked fine (ports are now broken, camera is useless)
Hero 4 Silver -- worked fine
Hero 5 Black -- works well.
I'd love suggestions for a perfect tiny-cam to use for those epic front-and-center shots that can be used with live streams without breaking the bank.
So, which compact camera would you recommend for videoblogging as alternative to GoPro ?
Interesting, never owned a GoPro and was looking at the new Hero11 as a do-it-all solution but I see as a webcam it sucks. Oh well! BTW there is no space between Hero and number 11, 10, etc. Could be useful for people doing a search, myself I never enter a space so I search for Hero11, not Hero 11. No worry you're not alone adding a space but wanted to point out the official way of writing it. Cheers!
Thanks, you're right! I thought I had checked before but now looking again I see that everyone is just very inconsistent in how they write it out.
good video you just answer all my questions and save me a headache!!!
I wish to have one but i cannot afford to buy
What about MINI?
I don't even see a media mod case for the mini so there's really no option
The one that comes out tomorrow ? It'll have the same problems.
I had no problem using it powered over USB-C with no battery inside. I also had a few batteries swell over time.
The way people cope with the heat when streaming using the Mediamod, is to run the GoPro without internal battery, powered of a USB powerbank with minimum 2A output on the port.
Great info!
Thank you
