Guess what, that's enough for me to buy the fs40, this guy explains it very well and detailed about this specific product, he's pretty knowledgeable. Good video
Glad I could help! Make sure when you’re in at your local dealership that you put a couple different models in your hand so you can get a good feel of them
Very well articulated and organized. Thank you and good job good sir. I wasn't entirely sure if the line had to be cut in half and fed in each side like my last Craftsman trimmer. Liking this one a lot already.
I have the FS 40 C and it works well. However, the auto feed does not work. I'm always stuck having to open the head and pull the string out and rewind it like you show. The problem that seems to cause this is that the string fuses together inside the head as if there was too high a temperature inside the head when the trimmer is operated. Is there something wrong with the trimmer or is the string that I use of poor quality? (PS: I use 0.080" trimmer line Super Trim made by Desert Extrusion.)
How old is your trimmer line? I really do like a lot of the desert extrusion stuff but I have found that some of their .080 does not hold up as well and will melt together.
I’m sorry I do not have a video on that So far I have not gotten into too many mechanical videos The replacement of the carburetor on that machine is not crazy. It should take you about a half an hour.
Should go pretty easy unless there is a bunch of buildup of debris, which does happen from time to time. Loosen the center cap the knob itself, then twist the middle part counterclockwise sometimes that’s all you have to do to get that to pop loose
Sounds good. The original line set up was garbage. I’m so frustrated with the new and improved????, model. I had my last sthil for ten years and never a problem rewinding a new spool. In fact I always had three or four spools wound and waiting. My trimming detail always took two and I was always prepared. Unless I’m a complete idiot I hate the new improved sthil. I’m ready to give the pos away and buy a better machine. What a mess!! .
I think once you get the proper line in that head and get a little bit better grasp of how it functions you will be happy. If not, you could go back to the old school auto cut 5-2 that if you’ve been running a curve chef Stihl is exactly what you’re used to.
@@carlsmowerandsaw Thanks Carl. My last sthil was a beast for many, many years. It started just as easy on its last year as it did in the first year. That’s why I invested in a new one. Unfortunately, my rental home burned to the ground on May 22, 2024. I lost everything but the clothes on my back and , unbelievably, I had two cents in my pocket. I’m fine but I lost so many treasures in the inferno. I did go to my new owners manual and there was a pamphlet on how to rewind on my AutoCut C 6 2. I did rewind. It was a breeze. Getting ready for this machine do it’s job. Thank you for putting out this video and thanks even more for your kind response. God Bless You!

@@carlsmowerandsaw Thanks for the answer. I have had it for 5 or 6 years.
Mind does that too, it's only a year old
Really helpful, thanks Josh.
Glad it was helpful!
You show me how to put the trim line on my own stihl store did not show me thank you 😊
Glad we could help
What a total PITA this string head is - Aaaaaaah !!!
What is challenging you?
When I string just how you did In the video, one side always sucks back in after 1 minute of use. I use stih .08 2mm line. Any thoughts?
Tell me about your line.
Do you have a video of changing a carburetor for the fs40 please?
I’m sorry I do not have a video on that
So far I have not gotten into too many mechanical videos The replacement of the carburetor on that machine is not crazy. It should take you about a half an hour.
Ok thank you for you swift reply
Is this model suitable for a brushcutter attachment?
No, not at all. This model is specifically designed for light grass and will run either a line head or the poly cut head.
Can you use a wrench t get the black piece to unscrew?
Once you unscrew the middle part of the bump knob, the whole head should pull straight off
@@carlsmowerandsaw Yes that part is stuck.
@@shericollins is it bound up with debris?
Not at all
Great video! Question, is it possible to use the edger attachment on this model?
Unfortunately not
Good Info. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
The line keeps getting tangled inside for me, what am I doing wrong?
Old line, poor quality line, or not tapping enough. More taps are better than less.
Is there a trick to pulling thing out I got a used one and can't reload it to save my f'ing life.....

speed feed head for FS40 ?
Nope, that is not an option to put on a speed feed.
Really helpful, thanks Josh!
Does the fs40c string the same
Depends on head that is installed. More than likely yes.
Can u use 40;1 ready mix fuel in it?
@@chucklong7402 you can but why would you?
What about the deflector? It sucks. Can you give another one that's bigger because everything's hitting my legs and up in my face it's ridiculous.
I think you are pretty much stuck with what you got. Sorry
Do not buy this the string Keeps Getting cut on the inside unless you tap it every two seconds I want my money back
Let’s get some fresh line on there and see what happens
Recommend a “Curl of your a guy 😂”
Do you own an FS40? Great machine to do curls with
Then there’s me, a sales associate assembling this trimmer and I can even get the damn head on. These trimmer heads are garbage
Practice when people aren’t watching. You’ll figure out the tricks
