Got to say I watch a lot of how to videos on different equipment and stuff that I purchase but I'm going to say hands down you are one of the best I've ever seen at breaking stuff down lots of knowledge and there's a many of us out here who appreciate your videos
I just purchased this trimmer and it is very powerful. I live on 17 acres with two small homes and lots of fences, so i trim a lot. I've used echo for over a decade and they're great tools but I wanted to try Stihl since I have an old Stihl chainsaw that just won't die. I have used this trimmer today and so far it's doing the job fine. It doesn't have the quickest trigger response but it does the job.
I have a KM131R Iflipping love that monster. It is a crazy beast that isnt starved for power on anything. There is nothing comparable that I had ever used. They had done it right on that sucker.
I hear all kinds of opinions on fuel for small engines. I was always the non ethanol guy, but my mechanic exclusively uses the highest octane fuel he can find and adds star tron fuel additive. He swears this is the best combination for small engines. He runs it in his personal equipment and drains the fuel of the customers equipment before he starts working on it, then adds the high octane/ additive mix. Great video and can’t wait to put my 91r to the test.
What I have found is the 93 octane fuel with good oil like the Stihl 2 cycle oil is fine for everyday or ever week use. If I wasn't going to use it very often I would definitely use non ethanol fuel.
Great video, i bought a new fs91r a couple of years ago and started it but had another stihl smaller unit that i used, i bought the bigger fs91r before i retired to run a brush blade on it but never got around to using it. The issue is after putting fresh fuel in it and i do use the stihl oil religiously it doesnt want to run at top rpm and it wont idel very well also a little hard to start. I checked filters and muffler screen and plug but this is a brand new unit and none of those items had anything on them. I have heard its rare to have to adjust the carb on a stihl especially a new unit. I have run it a few times in case i have oil gummimg up tge carb but no good so far. When i got it down i noticed the gas i had put in it a couple of years ago still smelled ok and when i screwed the cap off there was some built up pressure in it but i didnt try to run it on that i put freshly mixed fuel in it. I have noticed that after trying to get it to full throttle it smelles a bit hot but it cuts grass sand the head stops when i throttle down before it dies. Have considered takeing carb apart in case there is a glob of oil in it but the carb wasnt dry, one thing i noticed small bubbles filling the primer bulb so i checked the fuel filter and it looked new but was hard to blow and suck through at first then it cleared but i ordered a new stihl fuel filter and the small bubbles dont accumulate anymore in the primer bulb but it still runs the same. Any ideals, am retired and dont want to pay to have it looked at when i should be able to get it to run righr since its brand new it had just sit unused for a couple of year's. One thing, I haven't removed the muffler in case pressure in the tank when the machine was not being used may have pushed a bunch of gas and oil into the muffler or maybe the valve area, just a thought
Sorry you’re having problems and sorry that you let it sit with fuel in it for several years. I would definitely say your issue will be in the carb. The spark arrestors don’t plug on the 4 mix engines. The bubbles in the primer generally indicate a stuck check valve in the carb. Caused by corrosion from poor fuel. You can open the carb and see what you find. But ultimately a new Stihl OE carb and you will probably be back in action. Don’t want to do that you could try running some seafoam through the fuel.
Hi Carl, I have an FS120R. Do you think that going for the FS131 is a good choice or should I go for something higher? I would like to try the 4 mix engine but in that case I want to do a good and worth upgrade, not just a waste of money 😂. thank you in advance
Does it have a crankcase to add motor oil- independent of what goes on the fuel tank? 4stroke and 4 cycle is the same thing. 2 stroke and 3 cycle are also interchangeable terms. So which is it with this machine? Does the oil get mixed with the fuel - then it's a 2 stroke. If it burns straight gas, then it is a 4 stroke.
I just bought a fs 91 back in March of this year and it's been in the shop once already over it bogging down and it's still not right it still bogus down when you give it gas
@@laughlin978 removing the screen on a 4mix is going to do no good. Has yours been into the shop to have it checked out? There are the occasional ones that need a carb adjustment.

Have you ever ran anything with this much power? It rips.
U are the best mate for explaining how to use tools
Happy to help

What are the valves supposed to be adjusted at
@@brucelewis1017 Stihl has a special tool, but the setting is .1 mm

Yeah, defiantly!
I was hesitant on buying a new trimmer for my business but this made me pull the trigger!

Top quality video as always.

Does the gear box have access to apply grease on the 91?
Yes it does. Right on the side.
What is the part number for the conversion kit for the metal blades you showed in your video on the FS 91R? 9:49
I believe that I gave you the part number in a previous comment that you had posted the other day
What is the direction of spin on the head? clockwise or counter clockwise?
The trimmer head on a straight shaft machine turns counter clockwise.
Great video, just bought this model. How would you suggest of disposing of the fuel from the container from my old trimmer?
Our county offers a disposal service homeowners for things like that. Check with your local county.

The FS240r or FS251r is what I would replace a 120 with
I’m probably getting That One
We think you will love it!
Is there a hedge trimmer attachment compatible with this trimmer?
Yes. Either of the Kombi hedge trimmers will fit
@@carlsmowerandsaw Am i limited to the Kombi attachment? Does stihl not offer any other hedge attachments compatible with this FS91R trimmer anymore?
@@kaseykraft26 the 0° gearbox or 0-145° gearbox from the Kombi attachments are your choices. I am not aware of there ever being another option
So with the duro cut head, what size trimmer line can you run on the fs91 R?
.130 diameter line.
Can you use a saw blade for cutting very small trees such as Alders?
With the limit stop kit yes
@@carlsmowerandsaw awesome thank you
I just bought one and it sure sounds like a 4 cycle engine.
Sure does
Canada no longer has ethanol free gas, 10% ethanol. Is this still a good choice ? What happens with 10% ethanol gas ?
10% causes plenty of problems. Buy small amounts. Go through it fast. And moto-mix in the slow seasons
Valve adjustment? So it is a 4 cycle engine?
4 mix. Yes 4 cycle but always runs on mixed fuel.

I just bought one and when I hold it wide open it breaks up misfire a little bit, is that normal?
This is normal. It is the governor/rev limiter. When under no load you will hear it.
Operate it just under that level. If you keep it pinned you’ll end up overheating it.
Is this 2 cycle or 4 cycle?
2cycle fuel always. 4 cycle engine design
Great price
It sure is
Stihl is having a huge sale on the fs91r 309.99 😮😮😮😮😮 I'm wondering if it's going to be discontinued???
It’s a great sale. I have heard no word about discontinuation. It is one of our bestsellers and expect that to continue for years to come.
I think most places are eliminating last years models to make room for this year's stuff I just bought a fs 91 for $299

I bought the 91R with the bike handles. Can I buy a limb saw extension for that? Or should I consider just buying a limb saw?
You can put the pole saw gearbox on the end. But it is not very comfortable to run with the handlebars.
