I know the feelings of frustration with hiccups in the process. The old Goofy Cart is back in the shop on the lift getting ready to redo the steering yet again.
Wow Matt, that brass drift is starting to look more like a door knob than a straight drift. Time to step back and let the penetrating oil work its magic . Thanks and watch out for that lighting ⚡️
Sounds like a great plan for the motor. Getting the drill press to run would be fantastic, new motor or not. As you say you can always swap the original motor back in if/when you get it running again. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
Matt, could you use a puller to pull one of the end housing cover off by pushing against the center shaft. It looks like if you could get one side off the rest of the motor would come apart, but I could be wrong. Just an idea.
@@mattthescrapwhisperer sorry, I figured you had thought of that, I don't know why I suggested it. I'm going to Kieth Rucker's later this week. I'll ask him if he has any ideas
Well well, look who is loafing around now. Does Nancy know that you loiter in her dining room? lol. man I hope you get that motor pulled apart. I am intrigued by that old thing. It is almost as old as you.
Matt - Have you electrically checked the motor to see if the windings and insulation are still good? This might mean dropping off the motor at an electric motor repair shop (which seem to be getting rarer than hen's teeth nowadays). The reason I ask this is that if the motor windings are shot, or the insulation on the windings is bad; you need a motor rewind, and that is likely to cost more than a new motor. Something to think about before you put any more effort into disassembly.
I know you know what to use.. but I'm going to tell you that I'd try, if you haven't yet.. maybe a little liquid wrench, let it soak in for a bit (a day) then Fluid Film, or I know you have kriloil.. give it a shot or two every day... If that doesn't do it in a few days.. good old fashioned Coke.. An old mechanic told dad to use it to get the injectors out of our IH 5288 years ago.. every morning, dad poured a little bit in .. day 3 it popped out.
Matt, the living daylight hammerer. 😂
Ha! Thanks Martin!
Good afternoon, Matt👍

Great suggestion, but I don't have the type of puller this needs, nor do my local buddies. It won't fit in my press either.

My uncle used to use Coke. The Phosphoric Acid in it works great. It also eats up your innards if you're not careful.
First.....most recently.
