      I remember a scam Six Flags was doing a few years ago, you get a discount on your ticket if you buy a coke or pepsi, forget the brand, they have the vending machines out there, the soda is way over priced but you'll save money on your ticket, they are sitting there with a bag collecting everyone's soda they just convinced them to buy, because you can't take the soda they just sold you into the park(they didn't tell you this important fact during their sales pitch). So they have garbage bags full of full bottles of soda. I opened mine and dumped it out, they're not gonna resell my soda. Such shady business practices, if you're selling a soda to get a discount on your ticket, let us take the soda in the park. Six Flags has become trash now compared to when I used to go growing up in the 90s.

    Pepsi Max Big One has to be one of the most iconic ride sponsorships ever, the general public to this day still say things like "have you been on Pepsi Max yet", and most enthusiasts still refer to it as PMBO.

      So true even just saying the big one alone, still makes me think of Pepsi and I've never even been on the ride or Blackpool Pleasure Beach, it was just through media exposure and adverts so I feel like it worked well as a sponsorship.

      @@chrystpick7741 From what I've heard, it has a great first drop but the rest of the ride's pretty boring. Don't get too excited.
      Also, from what I've heard, Icon is the best ride in the park, and Valhalla is a great dark ride, so make sure to ride those.
      Also, I've heard that you should probably skip Infusion, because it is incredibly rough and painful.

Also I love the fact that Neil and Christina Hamilton turned up for a few seconds. One I wished you’d mentioned is imperial leather (a soap brand) sponsoring both Alton towers log flume, and the one I feel is the worst, turning beloved dark ride bubbleworks from a fizzy drink theme to a bubble bath theme.

    Standing in line for Full Throttle at SFMM when it was plastered with Chick-fil-A signs just felt so out of place, not even talking about them being controversial.
    During Halloween they would advertise Zombie Takis (10/10) on the line tvs, and sold them in the shops.

    SFMM also has a Dole pineapple whip stand, which I only found out recently.

    Cadbury sponsored AIR when it first opened...
    Tetley currently sponsor the tea-cups at Thorpe Park
    Imperial Leather sponsored The Flume at Alton (I think there was also something at Chessie, but I can't think of it right now)
    Ribena sponsored TWO attractions: The rapids at Thorpe and Ribena Berry Bish Bash at Alton
    Then there was a massive Cadbury sponsorship of a whole land at Alton.. And then Nickelodeon..

    Technically, the Hershey chocolate company and Hershey Entertainment and Resorts are independent companies, though they have some partial common ownership. (Hershey does own Chocolate World.) But it's obviously a somewhat different arrangement from a typical sponsorship.

    • @steve1w33x
      @steve1w33x 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Both are subsidiaries of the Hershey Trust Company, so even though they are independent from each other they are owned by the same parent company.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steve1w33x Kind of--the Hershey Trust only has a minority share in Hershey, though they wholly own Hershey Entertainment and Resorts.
      I've always thought it was amazing that there was this separate attraction OUTSIDE Hersheypark with a big, elaborate dark ride that was completely free to ride, and the corporate ownership relations sort of explain it--the chain of Chocolate World attractions, of which that is the original and biggest one, is owned by the Hershey foods company itself rather than by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. It was built as a less-disruptive, higher-capacity replacement for the old chocolate factory tour, whereas Hersheypark itself was originally a recreational park for Hershey employees.
      For many years, the candy theming in Hersheypark was kind of low-key--it seemed like they didn't want to do too much of it. And I wonder if that was because they figured that was for Chocolate World, and Hersheypark could do other stuff. But things have changed recently; they've gone all-in with the synergistic candy theming.

    In my opinion, Disney should consider applying the same practice they had with Dinosaur's sponsorship with their IPs. Have your IPs, but get creative with it. For example, redesign Frozen Ever After with some of the creatures from Frozen 2 and have it be similar to Malestrom in the sense that people will learn some Norse Mythology. Or have Remy's Ratatouille Adventure be a cooking class that turns into an adventure to get back to the kitchen.

    We have 2 rides here in England at Drayton Manor which have since lost their sponsors. first a flume ride by BEAR GmbH called Stormforce 10, for many years it was sponsored by the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute) and all funds spent in the shop below the rides station went to the RNLI Charity. Second is an Intamin stand up coaster called Shockwave which at launch in 1994 was sponsored by 7UP and called the "7UP Shockwave". It was later sponsored by a gas and electric supplier called npower and renamed the "npower Shockwave" before just being called "Shockwave" as it is today. It is also the only stand up coaster with a Zero G roll too! :)

    I will never forget all the Takis advertisements around Medusa at SFDK back in 2013. Signs all over the place, but the trains remained free from any ads.
    However, Boomerang still has the Twix advertisements on the trains.

    Really interesting, other than the big brands - Coca-cola; Pepsi, Mcdonald's, etc, I hadn't heard of most of the American brands. When you read out the UK ones these are very familiar to me but obviously not so to you. I guess you just get so used to brands you forget they can be localised.

    The "irony" about Fanta sponsorship + colors IS that Fanta is owned by Coca Cola! LOL! I worked 4 Six Flags for seasons. The last year in the Sign Shop (maintenance) . I proudly painted a Fiberglas Coca Cola bottle for a sign on Americana Street. Some Looney Tunes characters. Did concept art w/ sponsors name. Gulf gas stations became Chevron (so after making the Gulf signs) Sighhhh! We had to re-do them as Chevron only 6 months later. There were @ least 50 7hp. gas cars that needed 2 stickers per car repainted & re-logo. Ozarka water was one of the many sponsors of the Arrow Flume we had. I saw soooo many restaurants, sponsors, etc. over those 5 seasons. Great video! During Disney era, you'd get 10 yr. sponsorships. That's a hard commitment now a days. Lucky If you can get 2-5 yrs. now.

    I’ve seen those pipes whenever I rode Dinosaur at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it is quite a fun Easter egg to point out. Say, did you know a McDonald’s sits on the resort property today? It’s just right outside the Disney All Star Resorts complex as you head over there.

    Kodak had lots of commercial ad placement in 6 Flags parks. "It's a Kodak moment" at various scenic view points of the park or rides.
    They were also a sponsor of many rides in the form of on-ride photos.

    I went on infusion (formally traumatizer) and you are 100% right! It is the worst ride I’ve ever been on, it’s even worse than colossus at Thorpe park, even theme park worldwide doesn’t like it, and he likes pretty much everything. Also I’ve been in the big one and it’s extremely disappointing, because of the restraints you don’t get any airtime, making the ride rather boring
