Best awd slippery conditions ive driven is Tesla. But Im impressed with my Nio as well, better than a lot of cars Ive tested.
Heating the LIDAR makes sense, but Nio, you need to not heat it that much... No wonder it got covered in crusty schmutz in an "earlier video". 10deg C would be more than good enough heating to allow ice/snow to melt but not cook off all the water leaving lots of salt/minerals behind.

The heat signatures were very telling.
I guess the high energy consumption comes from heating that LIDAR and all the external cameras.
How much can it be? Maybe 10-20W for each?
@@oskarzgoa8428 That huge LIDAR bump alone was heated up to 20C in constant 100km/h headwind in -6C. I believe that is drawing hundreds of watts alone.
@@oskarzgoa8428 Something is not right with the consumption, as it fluctuates by 50% up and down at constant speed. The tires are ok, the CV value is also ok, it's not even an SUV, so air resistance should be fine.
My guess is the heat management, it is warming up something in the car (either battery or external sensors, or just the regular heating is inefficient) and switching on/off every couple of seconds.
@@enigmatumIt has fast connectors. Same design like every other car battery.
@@Lucas-wp2ph not true. Most other EVs have a significant radiator design close to its motors and has coolant/heating lines going through the battery pack structure. Those are sealed lines. Battery swap can’t have that because you can’t break coolant lines every swap.

NT3 platform of nio might fix the Lidar issue as it will be moved to the inside. so wipers keep it clean as well
LIDAR requires clean LIDAR windows. Heating it doesn't clean it. With all the crap on the road, it's not strange that your LIDAR gets dirty.
Camera's also can't see if the lens is dirty, it's not rocket science.
So it seems LIDAR is not the godsend people make it out to be. Radar at least can see through some dirt. Cameras behind the windshield are kept clean. LIDAR that isn't behind the windscreen seems to be the worst of both. Cannot see through dirt, and isn't cleaned.
Probably you should not accept cars with summer tires in winter, as I would like to see more videos from you in the future as well...
As you might see in the video, he has winter capable tires on it :D
Else he wouldn't be able to accelerate or brake that hard...

@@bjornnyland I'm not skipping. I'm the biggest fan :D. Hm... but I have to admit that I'm only listening about half of the time, as I'm playing your videos while doing house chores. Even if I replayed that 14:49+ part and looked closely, I could not figure if those are winter tires or not...
The "R5" was the hint. Too bad many people don't know how awesome those tires are for proper winter.
If you want to know, if a car could perform in winter, you have to test it with summer tires!
