    An idea for a video: try to negotiate with Nio if you can make a video of how the system works underneath and how the separate batteries charge there, as well as what would happen in case of emergency and you open the door while swapping. Could be interesting for some people

    In the Swap Station 3.0 trailer, you can leave the car before it swaps and then after the swap is completed, it will park itself into a parking space besides it! Sou you could theoretically get some food while swapping.

    The swapping technology offers many advantages on the long term:
    - Makes EV ownership easier for people without access to home chargers
    - Reasonable solution for long trips with trucks, trailers, etc
    - Less ultrafast charging improves battery life
    - More homogeneous use of existing grid capacity
    - Removes customers anxiety about battery degradation
    - Flexible use of different battery size in one car
    - Swapping stations may be more compatible with the existing petrol station network than supercharger parks ?
    -
    - Unfortunately only NIO pushes this technology forward, could be a similar mistake like legacy automakers made not to invest in supercharger networks.

    @Bjorn is it possible to add a column with charge total times?
    I think a lot of people would find that really useful because it speaks volumes of the "untold story" behind every test.
    It also helps people with a different "journey profile" better relate to the tested cars and put rest times into perspective.

      In complete agreement. This is what i thought was the next metric where the competition should go as the top contenders are already there where charging time is starting to become non-issue. It's more about charging stops and what amenities are available at the stop - vc, cafeteria, small food shop etc.

    My assumption is, Auto drive correction is more of a threshold setting. auto drive primary using off line mode are setting a larger threshold for correction so it move less. But for Nio, X peng are using auto drive with 4/5G infrastructure by default and using the offline mode as degradtion mode for compensation lacking of infrastructure support, hence the allowable threshold is not really tuned and can be used as scondary inidcator the auto drive is on degrade offline mode.

    Some thoughts about the swapping procedure. Basically I think it’s a genious idea and shortens the total spent time on the trip, but I doubt this sytem will work with lots of more swappable batterie cars out there and only a few crowded swapping stations available. The waiting time will eventually be longer unless they increase the amount of stations. As an EV driver I actually enjoy 15-20 min brakes now and then. But this is a good alternative, though.

    • @peterhuang3376
      @peterhuang3376 ปีที่แล้ว

      The power demand of swap station is about 50-70% lower than charging stations. And they can easily install another one.

    • @zale76
      @zale76 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video is nice example that swapping is pointless. There are only few NIOs in Europe and had to wait for the swap. As a driver, you have to be all the time present, so you have to do your stuff (food, toilet, shopping, etc.) afterwards, which costs time anyways.

    • @danneugebauer9098
      @danneugebauer9098 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still think building a proper infrastructure before offering swappable cars to potential customers is crushial. It wouldn’t make much sence charging swabbable battery cars with standard chargers - that would ruin the whole basic idea and the swappable battery station provider wouldn’t make money. Therefore in order to sell these kind of cars they need to invest a huge amount of money into the infra in order to convince customer. This consept is born too late.

In order to have a good alignment for in and out without backing you need longer distance at the entrance and exit. It's like side parking, while you can make it without backing up you will need more space to set the car straight.

      Exactly, if you drive with a family you will never make it under 9 hours unless you drive at an average speed of 130-140 km/h at least. Me and my father drove for about 2000 km in about 18 hours with a diesel car but we were in a rush and the average speed on the highway was usually 140 km/h or more depending on the country we passed through. Went from Romania all the way to Aarhus Denmark but it wasn't comfortable at all. The falsely fantom braking is very dangerous simply because a car or truck behind you do not foresee any danger in front and are therefore not expecting a car with clear traffic to suddenly jump on the brakes. These things should be standardised and tested by a third party before activated in any car.

    Da mal rollo tener una carita siempre mirando o vigilando, jajaja. Nio podría aprovechar y que salga la carita cuando se le convoca o da alguna instrucción pero mientras podría mostrar un simple reloj analógico, tipo Porsche, copiarían, crearían y aprovecharían el hype. También que en modo track salga un cronómetro analógico. Pero los coches chinos son pesados con los ding, dong.

      Although swaps are and will always be the fastest way of recharging your car especially with future iterations, it's not just about that. Flexibility of dynamically changing battery capacities, ease of diagnosis and recycling of battery modules, autonomous features (NIO is currently testing ways of ordering your car to autonomously drive from your parking lot to a swap station and return to you unmanned). It's also about grid congestion optimizations. For example, the swap stations can work as energy storage and feed electricity back to the grid when necessary or when profitable. The compact design is also a huge benefit. Swap stations can be moved/placed wherever unlike a parking lot of supercharger stations. (Imagine being able to swap in under 5 minutes inside a shopping center parking lot. That beats gas stations.). There are tons of benefits with swap stations, both for the user as well as for the company and the parties involved (government, electricity providers etc.).

      Because he also deducts if you go to a charging station and all stalls are taken. It's a measure to control the variables. I once was returning from holiday and had to wait 20 minutes at a gas station on the highway. It would make no sense to judge the time it takes to refill based on that would it? The same can be applied here. For a benchmark you do it without waiting time but in a real world scenario charging the car may actually be faster if you have to wait for 4-5 cars swapping before you.

    • @ramdynebix
      @ramdynebix ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The test is not about realism but consistency.

    • @andrewroberts1787
      @andrewroberts1787 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. The swap station can serve one car at a time. A Supercharger location can serve multiple. In the real world you are unlikely to find a queue at a Supercharger site but you are very likely to get a queue at a swap station. But we remove the wait time for the swap station. So if you do 1000km as an actual owner, which car is going to be faster? Not this one and that is why these deductions are out of hand...
      If we want to figure out the optimum situation he doesn't even need to drive, we know the consumption, we know how long a swap/charge takes, there is literally no need to do it for real if you're not counting for real.

    Battery swapping has no future, because Nio can only offer it to there Customers, no other will pay for theses Swaping stations, which will make them a money hole. Only 120 for hole Europe, that's a joke. If just on Nio is in front of you at the swapping Station, the hole advantage is gone, the 800 Volt charing EV's will be gone, before the Nio is out of the swapping station. Renault tested Battery swapping 10 Years ago and figured out, it does not work. Charing Stations are very expensive, but these swapping stations are much more expensive, and they will take up much more space. Space is a think that is very meager specially on the highways. And how in the world will rent and electric car for over 1.200 € a month, that can't even hold the line. Also they are charging very slow and are not very efficient. Overall we can say, the Chineses only cook with water two. There is no big surprise from China, these Nio EV's are not better then anything else in the EV marked.

Swapping ststions are on target to be the same price as charging stations. They take upp much less space. Many have chosen to hire the car for for 1200€/month. Compared to OEMs Nios are as efficient or more efficient. The New EC7 supports 660A charging and NIO promiced that the pilot will soon be adjusted. Next generation NIOs cominh in 2025 will all support 500kw charging and will use 800v systems.

    • @hannsmusster6919
      @hannsmusster6919 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lucas-wp2ph Well, in Europe there are 13 Swapping stations according to Nio's official report. That's quiet a lot 🤣. You can at least charge 10 EV's on the space of one Swapping Station. The price of a Swapping Station will be much higher then a normal charging station. A swapping Stations is a building by Law in Europe and for that reason it's hole different story and it's much more expensive. Also it makes no sense, no other EV's can swap there Batteries, so it is a waste of space an infrastructure. Instead of charging 10 EV's at the same Time, the swapping Station can only swap one or two batteries. Most modern 800 Volt EV's will be done after two Nio swaps. Nio sold only a couple of hundert Cars in Europe, most of them in Norway. In China sales a dramatically going down by 50%, because customers figured out that the swapping technic is a total fail.
      Nio will fail, because batterys will get charged even faster in the future. In reality you will need to make a stop when driving long distances, you can always use the charging break to use the restrooms and eat something, with the Nio this is extra Time, because you have to stay in the car during swapping out the battery. So after ten min. swap you need another ten min. for toilet and food. I'am 100% confident that swapping will fail and Nio has to change is strategy.
