    I'm new to bonsai & I'm wondering why trim off the large leaves before the runners. I'm trying to learn how to do bonsai.

    Thanks for sharing your wonderful informative clipping on pruning, I have few under training! Curious to know how long it takes to grow the trunk like yours? Please let me know how old is your tree?

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I've had this tree for about 5 years now and the trunk has grown some but not much, but I am also growing in a small pot and keeping it pruned back which slows growth down.

    Hi, lovely job pruning that tree. I’m a newbie and I have the same tree but mine is very young , the trunk and stems are much smaller than yours . Is it safe to prune it ? It looks like it needs some maintenance, my was extending on both sides like yours and the leaves are clumping everywhere. I want to be able to see more or the bark. Thanks I really enjoyed your vid.

      Thank you Jingle Robin, if your tree is healthy you should be fine with some pruning. This would encourage new growth and actually increase the health of your tree. Have fun, these are interesting trees to grow.

    Looks good mate. Fukien tree is a mystery to me. Sold by the thosends in garden centers in my country. But I havent seen one growing them successfully. Can you tell me a little bit about your growing conditions for each season?

    I hear these are hard to keep happy and alive, is that true? They are my favourite bonsais , all I have had are ficus bonsais and I really wanna try my hand at one. Any tips or information? Love the channel subbed!

      Thanks Matt, the last 2 wi nters I've kept mine under lights and from spring to September outside in a bright spot but out of direct sunlight. Bonsai soil is best and kept moist, in the winter mist the tree 1 to 2 times a day. I water mine every one to two days in winter and I water it everyday in summer ( unless it rains ). All year round adding a little fertilizer with the watering is good for it also ( two - three times a week ) just all purpose and mix a couple pinches worth in a small watering can, mixing in water. So far I have found this tree does great under these conditions. I hope this helps you out.

    I just repotted mine...getting some yellowing...darkening of the leaves, but none are falling off. Shock??? Any tips???

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be a few things, but make sure it is in well draining soil ( bonsai soil) and in indirect sunlight and keep soil damp. If you try and work with these 3 elements hopefully it will get better. Cheers

      @@BonsaiJCan ... I had it in direct sunlight for a couple of days. I have read that they like the sunlight but prefer a shaded place. It was doing very well when I would just put it by a window. The leaves are still intact and none of them have fallen off so I think the tree is okay. Might have just scorched the leaves a bit I think it will be fine

    • @righteousredneck777

      @@BonsaiJCan ...using a mixture of sphagnum peat moss, sand and pearlite.

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully it will be fine, maybe like you said, just going through some shock right now after repot. Keeping it in a shady but bright area is always good after a repot till you start to see some new growth .

      @@BonsaiJCan ...I think she is ok...do have new growth...new leaves growing low from the trunk...so I know she is still ok.

      bonsai J awesome! Do you have any videos on that? I just got a Fukien from Lowe’s and I’m waiting until tomorrow to prune it because I need to get it potted in bonsai soil, but there’s a lot of pruning to be done and I was wondering how I would successfully propagate another bonsai from my cuttings?

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found I could only start cuttings with old wood on them, and not newer shoots. So parts of older branching rooted much better. Only about 1" -2 " long with some leaf on them. I hope this helps.
