    Nice looking Fukien J. I’m back in Florida now for the winter and my tropicals have done quite well, now excited to get to work on them. I see, like me, you have a fondness for cuttings. I think we’ll both have to live as long as Yoda to see them develop into bonsais. But that’s half the fun. Good luck this winter.

      Thanks Matt, I'm glad to hear your tropicals have done well. Have fun working on them in the nice Florida weather ! Your right about the cuttings lol...I guess it's growing and trying to develop them that brings a fun challenge.

    I assume the Fukien cuttings should be in a little water for a while? If so how long before you repot them ? Thank you fron the UK

      Hi. I just stick them in soil, keeping the soil moist, indirect sunlight or under lights. Hope this helps

    Did you do anything special before you put the Fukien cuttings in the soil?

    • @BonsaiJCan

      Hi Alan. I didnt do anything at all, I just put them in the soil and kept them moist. After I started seeing new growth I lightly fertilized. Take care

    My bonsai tree I just got in winter and it appears to have some fine white spots on the leaves. I've tried wiping them with water but nothing seems to work was wondering what they were?

    Is it mandatory to repot your Bonsai tree? I.e. Fukien Tea?

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats a great question. Re-potting and root-pruning bonsai is a necessary process to stimulate vigorous root growth, allowing your tree to thrive in a small pot.
      Bonsai need to be re-potted every 2 to 5 years, depending on the species of tree and rate of growth. If you never repot, over time your tree would become root bound / pot bound and eventually just
      starve to death.

    I bought mines today at Walmart I bought it cheap because it had wind damage I had to repot it I use Miracle Grow for the soil is that a good choice

      Glad you got it for a good deal.I would use a bonsai soil mix or at the very least a good cactus soil. You want something with good moisture retention, good drainage and Good aeration. I hope this can help you start.

    If i used miracle grow and additional things to help it drain, would i be good, or do i specifically need bonsai soil?

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With bonsai soil the roots get great aeration, more water and fertilizer around roots, better drainage with just the right amount of moisture retention without rotting the roots and possibly killing the plant. You could grow in potting soil like miracle grow but not near as good.

      I have one more question, but i am trying to propagate the Fukien Tea, but im not completely sure if i did it properly. Am i supposed Take an actual branch and cleanly cut it? Because websites weren't completely clear about it.
      Thank you for responding so quickly :)
      What do you suggest i do?

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think its much easier to get old " hardened " growth to start roots, so if you can, leave some old growth on the cuttings your trying to propagate and you should have better luck.

    How can i propogate fukien tea cuttings?

    • @BonsaiJCan
      @BonsaiJCan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just put them in bonsai soil and keep the soil moist while misting them twice a day. If they are outside I would keep them out of the sun but a bright area, if inside you could keep them under a light. I would do this for at least until you see new growth. Good luck 👍
