My controls are the same as my DMC4 controls for the most part:
Square=Melee
X=Jump
O=Devil Breaker
Triangle=Devil Bringer
R1=Lock-on
L1=Gun
L2=Ex
R2=DT
D-pad= Break Away

By the way, I forgot where, but I read in some forum that the reason Hell Antenora(the butcher?) spawned during that boss stage is for Nero to Aegis Shield him to tank the boss' attacks. I tried it and it actually worked. Nero can even hold two enemies while in Devil Trigger. This way, I think Nero can potentially Showdown a group of enemies without interruption.

Yes, you are correct! I've had a plan to switch my buster to L1 before the boss fight so i can hold him as a shield and fight normaly but i didn't think it was necessary. Would've been more comfortable though :)

This is an ongoing playthrough, so yes! :)
The fusion between gun charged shots and sword slashes in exceed mode make me feel so satisfied.. Not even mention your fresh moves with every enemies you encounter... Beautiful 👌
Rule #1: Always destroy the gas tanks as soon as the fight begins.
Rule #2: Get your style rank to at least a C by using enemy step and mocking them.
Rule #3: Don’t get hit.

I also struggled to S every mission on devil hunter since enemies are so weak that they can’t take many hits lol
I ended up carrying them from one place to another in the optional encounters to keep my style rank high lol
Also, avoiding fights is a GREAT advice. I have a feeling the devs did that on purpose to fuck with newbies hahaha

I've played DMC1&2 back then on release and played them one more time recently on PS4's HD collection. I think both of them didn't age well for me, unfortunately.

Ah, the ieyasu taunt of pulling your hoodie, glad some things from Basara still got into DMC. Wonder if that boosts your attacks and has some secondary additional effect before the hoodie falls down again.
Is it me or are Nero's normal attacks a bit weak in this game? It seems like in DMC4 his normal attacks were normal while the Revs were meant to give extra damage to compensate for the lack of tools but here it seems that Nero is weaker and the Max-Acts are meant to boost him to "normal" damage levels. Could be wrong.
I think it depends on the difficulty you play. Human mode kills the bug monsters in 3-4 hits (same as DMC4 against the scarecrows).
Tbh, exceeding can fuck you over in lower difficulties if you try to S rank all the missions just because everything dies so fast!
Also, the hoodie only falls down if you get hit or if you DT. It might give a bonus at the end of the scoring (?) not sure. I’ve never actually finished a mission with the hoodie up lol

In lower difficulties you use the trick i talked about here... jump on enemies and taunt every 40 seconds. Before you hit any enemy, you could actually reach S (if you are so patient) or at least A. Starting the combat from "A" style combo will give you over 4000 points easily if you can maintain it.

Devil Bringer. You aquire it after finishing the game once.
any tips on how to get to c rank with minimum damage aside from taunting and royal guarding with dante?
Trickster dash, side roll or jump before getting hit. Combine those with enemy step, that's your best bet if you want to avoid royalguard and taunt.
I haven't tested Dante's attacks yet. But real impact is always a heavy style builder. You can charge Balrog easily without touching an enemy by holding melee during kick mode.
