    You can search for hog hunting videos with people using these same .22 cal gammo break barrels. At 25 yards or less with proper shot placement (head shots) they drop like a rock. If they'll take a hog there is no reason to believe they aren't capable of taking plenty of larger game. The key like always is accuracy and a very good understanding of an animal's anatomy. If you were ever forced into this situation you need to understand the anatomy in very specific detail. A lot of people might actually be surprised on how and where the brain is actually situated in the skulls of some animals and the areas of weakness in said skull structure. Know those weaknesses and a lot of larger game can be dropped by much smaller calibers than people typically think as native Canadians and Alaskans have proven for the past 100 years and longer.

      Yes, Keith Warren used a Gamo Whisper.22 when he killed two hogs (see his video ‘TWO Headshots on Hogs with GAMO Air Rifle’). This other guy killed a hog with Gamo Swarm Magnum in video 'Killing a hog with a .22 Gamo Swarm Magnum 10x with an ATN Night Vision X-Sight II 5-20x scope'. But some kill wild boars even with .177 caliber Gamo rifles - for example in the video 'Hog Hunting Using a GAMO Airgun', and in the video 'Hog Hunting with Gamo Hunter Extreme Air Rifle', then a guy named Pigman in the video 'Pigman Shoots Pig in Brain with Gamo Air Rifle! ' Of course, without legal permission such hunting should not be done. Today’s air rifles are not a joke but are serious weapons that need to be handled as carefully as firearms.

    Biggest buck I’ve ever harvested was at less than 15 yards with a muzzleloader. I wish I would have had a bow with me at the time. I also harvested a 12 pointer at 8 yards with a .308. Again, I wish I had my bow with me then.

  • @chopsddy3

    The first deer I ever shot was at15 yards. I was in a tree and it didn’t know what hit it. (30 30 Winchester) That same day, I walked up a tree that had fallen and got hung up. I was about 15 feet off the ground and several deer walked right under me without noticing me.
    My Beeman 1336 , with the hammer spring set at max power, can fully penetrate a common plumber’s propane bottle at 15 yards with Crosman Powershot Red Flight pellets. ( the blue , EMPTY, Walmart propane bottles) I’m totally confident that I could brain or spine a deer at that range, with that rifle, if it was absolutely necessary to keep from starving. I’d drop it like a rock.
    Heck James, you oughta test those things. They’re expensive, but pretty amazing.

    • @kylepeak7033
      @kylepeak7033 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm guessing you'd be traumatized after shooting a deer in the spine with a pellet rifle. If it had enough power to penetrate the skin and sever the spine the deer would scream bloody murder, roll around with what it could still use of it's half paralyzed body. I've seen it happen, with a real rifle. Spine shots ARE NOT ETHICAL, and will not ever be effective with a pellet rifle, especially a .177. Guy a few years back went hunting at our camp and spine shot the deer with a .243. The deer freaked out, was miserable in pain, screaming like you wouldn't believe, dragging it's rear end.

    Not all .177s are made alike I own 4 Gamo's the Magnum and the Mach 1 in .177 penetrates both sides of a metal 5 gallon paint bucket at 25 yards. The Whisper 22 for me only dents the back side. Really want a Mach 1 .22 or better yet a magnum which is out of stock.. The .177 magnum breaks the sound barrier on regular 7 gr pellets half the time its insane. Even the PBA at 1650 fps doesn't do as good as a heavy slower pellet for penetration.

    My dad told me that during The Depression in northern Wisconsin, he and his brothers often poached deer with .22 rifles (not air rifles) and took every deer down with a single shot to the neck. As they were "shining" them with a spotlight, they were able to get fairly close. Don't know how well this would work with an air rifle in a SHTF scenario, but might be worth a try...

    • @chopsddy3
      @chopsddy3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      That happens when the velocity is too high for the strength of the projectile. If a bullet blows up on the surface, even if the calculated kinetic energy is thousands of pounds, you only get a surface wound. That same bullet at a lower velocity may be capable of full penetration of the target. The key is to find the sweet spot between the bullets construction, mass ,velocity and momentum matched to the toughness of the target.
      Super frangible bullets ,if pushed too hard ,can even disintegrate inside the barrel. FPE alone doesn’t indicate the terminal performance of a projectile on a given target. Mass , bullet construction, velocity, momentum and the target’s strength all go into the equation. Just because a bullet calculates to several thousand pounds of kinetic energy at a given velocity, doesn’t necessarily mean it will work. It’s all relative.

    To understand pellets being shot from an airgun..the higher the weight. the more penetrtion, less chance to be misdirected by a cross wind it has a lower distance range. the lower the pellet weight, the less penitration a little farther distance but could be blown off course by a crosswind.

    Interestingly, you can hunt a deer with an air rifle but you have to aim for the head, aiming elsewhere is not highly recommended because the live skin is very flexible and can stop the pellet, here is a video of a hunt with an FX pcp
    th-cam.com/video/-FLHUKhFIcc/w-d-xo.html
    In South America it is not strange to hunt with modern rifles, especially PCP, since firearms are very restricted in use and transport.
