Great video. Nice to see the comparison between standard rifle and air rifle. I'm pretty sure you shot your crono strap on the 4th shot with the whisper. Which would explain the low speed of that shot compared to the other 4.

Thank you for your time effort and support as well as your thoroughness in helping me understand as well as appreciate the differences airgunning and/ or rimfire guns I think airgunning is more of a challenge in honing the skill that is perfected in powder weapons. I have both a swarm whisper and a swarm magnum and though the Magnum is the more powerful of the two no doubt about it like in life we stick to our strengths and inside of the 50-60yds.ranges the whisper is just as lethal depending on the weight or grain of the pellets with the Magnum not holding as accurate with the lighter crosman premiers (14.3gr) they bouce all over the place. Try H+N's .22cal.23gr. slugs or 21 and that would be the . 217's in the whisper and I bet you a dollar to donuts you'll say Dam! I love the Swarm Whisper too it was my first Gamo. I also have the Swarm Hunter that hangs on the rack amongst them too and rightly so. Thanks again for your commentary appreciate you
@peeksite Thank you for watching and for the comment! I like the whisper a lot. It seems to have a better trigger and a better feel overall when shooting as compared to the magnum. They have both liked the H&N pellets I tried in my other videos but I’ve not specifically tried any 22 grain H&Ns. Others have recommended the Hornets.

I noticed that your low shot on the swarm whisper was the shot that the strap came flying off, i think that it effected the speed because it was way lower than the rest

Most interesting part - for me - is the 22 short vs "swarms". Think of this: a couple of decades ago, the idea of having such a powerful brake-barrel "multishooter" like the Swarm Magnum seemed to be so far-fetched if not wishful...
Just bought the swarm whisper for 150. For my needs and it having a magazine load was just what I was looking for. If I was in the pest control business, then I would be investing in multiple airguns with different capabilities for much higher cost equipment. Busting a few rodents in the garden before they ruin the entire crop year for 150$ is within my budget and I hope it’ll get the bang for the buck.

Finally got me a gamo swarm maxxim DX in 22 , loving it ..4th of July sale got it for 139 originally 100 dollars higher ..fun gun for sure shoots around 730 fps with cheapy crosman hollow points ..I'm happy with it , been wanting the magnum but dang their expensive to me
@randyhardy3692 I don’t think you’re missing anything by not getting the magnum. I like my swarm whisper better than my magnum. Less recoil and much easier to cock.
Believe me the swarm whisper( standard trigger/12 land-groove rifling)or the better version swarm maxxim ( CAT trigger/ 10 land-groove rifling ) are more than enough for hunting small game , and lighter and more compact and are easy on scopes than the swarm magnum
@Paul Karkorian I definitely like the whisper better due to both feel of trigger and it does not recoil/shake as violently when shot. I don’t think the magnum feels very smooth to shoot. Just not as enjoyable.

My new Gamo Swarm Magnum Gen 2 22 cal arrived the day before this posting. Starting to break it in now. This model takes way more muscle to load than my Gamo Big Cat .177. I find it's easier to brace the butt against the ground to get good leverage. I am getting a good workout!
@Fred Appleyard It is definitely not easy! Get a workout in and shoot at the same time. Haha!
If I shoot it a lot, I might end up with arms like yours! It will probably get easier when it's broken in. I find that bracing the butt against the ground makes loading it much easier. This rifle makes a unique "PLOK" sound. My 177 Gamo Big Cat 1200 makes more of a "SPROING" sound.

I like seeing the FPE (ft/lbs) of energy rating of air rifles along with velocities.
I took a quick minute to run numbers on the 22 CB short I think you were using, the 22 LR, Gamo Magnum & Swarm air rifles.
presuming all rim fire ammo was of the 40 grain variety: I know some shorts use sub 40 grain projectiles.....
22 Short = 24 FPE (CB loading?)
22 LR = 113 FPE
Gamo Swarm = 14 FPE
Gamo Mag = 24 FPE
Do you see any accuracy advantage between the Swarm or the Magnum? I have a couple springers & the faster shooting (higher FPE) guns seem a little less accurate. Now of course that could just be me....
@motorgearhead Thank you! Both guns are similar in accuracy and pretty well like the same pellets it seems. I personally prefer the whisper because it doesn’t seem to recoil as bad. Seems like the magnum shakes instead of a straight back recoil.
My buddy and I both get 30 ft/lbs out of our Swarm Magnums? Maybe this guy is at a higher altitude?
@@stanpotter7764 It's highly pellet weight dependent. Heavier pellets have higher fpe if they aren't too slow.
@@einzelfeuer_2855 Pellet weight usually only makes a ft/lb or 2 difference. Also, gas guns like these generally make more power with lighter pellets, and springers make more with heavy pellets.

im planning on getting the swarm whisperer cause the magnum may be a little better but i don't plan spending 280 on it but i did not plan on shooting anything over 50 yards 70 not at most not 100 yards please tell me if anyone can recommend a pellet rifle under 160 if not swarm whisperer will be on the top of my list if not i was going to get the gamo varmint but i decided to save up a little more for a better rifle great video man keep up the great work

I guarantee the Hoppes air rifle cleaning kit will increase fps 200 to 300 a gun merchant at big 5 showed me this in TH-cam video. You have to take in consideration of the elevation you live in I live in low elevation so I get a average of 775 to 925 with Gamo swarm with lead pellets. Also cleaning your pellets with dish soap and water in a strainer then dry on a rag and oil your pellets a Lil big with gun oil. My swarm whisper now Almost compares to my 22 LR. The advertised Magnum speed is with alloy pellets.
@JB I would be interested to test pba pellets of the same weight at the pellets I used. I have some 9 grain pba pellets but they shot terribly in some of the other videos I did. I believe it was because they were so light. Probably have to pick up some heavier PBAs.

Need to spread the sheets a bit by trying perhaps three different weights of the same basic type pellet - 13 /18/22 h%n barracuda perhaps. This may bring out individual tendecies better?
@Michael Kemple I’m sure accuracy and speed would change depending on the pellet but it should be a predictable speed variance between the two pellet rifles. The air pressure capability is the same in each rifle regardless of the pellet. The magnum will continue to shoot anything about 200 FPS faster than the whisper. It may be possible to get the magnum over 1000 but I’m sure it would take a very light pellet and this magnum would not shoot the light ones.

@woofman I wonder if that improved the feel of the recoil? The magnum is not very smooth to shoot.
You talk about shooting long range, have you tried or looked into IHMSA matches? These are shooting long range pistols to 200 meters, which is 220 yards, with open sights. I used a Thompson Center Contender single shot I various calibers. It's about the best combination of power and accuracy. The 200 meter target is a steel cutout of a ram, and these can weigh &0-60 pounds. All targets must be knocked over for a point. I settled on a 30-30 barrel shooting 147 grain jacketed bullet over a charge of Accurate Arms 5744 powder. This was in the 1990's, and don't know if that powder still exists. I shot in these matches all over western Washington State, and had a great time. I also shot in NRA Hunter Pistol matches, and that competition allows scopes.

The advertisement is what gets people to buy them. And they get their advertised velocity with the lightest pellet

@calebr9600 I’m still skeptical. I’m about to release a video next week with the gen3i swarm magnum and 7.4 grain pellets. I won’t give spoilers but the max speed is way off what they advertised. Alloy are only two grains less. I don’t think it’s possible for there to be that much difference.
I'm finding myself in a little bit of a crossroad. I know that the Gamo swarm Magnum has more power as far as being able to launch either heavier pellets at a faster velocity than the whisper. But I noticed it on some of your field test the whisper seems to be more accurate at shorter distances. My question is that if I was to spend the extra money and buy the Magnum toward would I be sacrificing accuracy for power.
@Everette Welch I don’t think what little distance you gain with the Magnum is worth it. It’s very little gain. To me, the whisper feels better, shoots smoother (less shake from the gas piston), and shoots almost as far. It is by far my pick. I don’t think the magnum is even close to being worth the extra money.

@Everette Welch Thank you for watching and for the comments! The break barrels are just not gonna come close to a centerfire. You may want to consider a PCP pellet rifle. PCP rifles will get better performance and better feel also due to not having the movement of the gas piston.
@@HuntShootLive Using your results , the Magnum has 65% more FPE . At 50 yards the impact is nearly double. The price is now more than double. I think the Magnum would do better with an 18-21 grain pellet.

You're getting 24.2fpe at 2,600 elevation. I'm getting 29fpe at 700 elevation, and throwing that same pellet at 955fps, which is a little too fast for accuracy. Mine does better with an 18 or 21gr pellet. And you're right, the G2 Swarm Magnum is unpleasant to shoot, it's a beast to cock and the recoil is unbelievable, it feels like a shockwave going through the whole gun. But.. at 70+yds it groups better than my other .22 with alot less drop. And for plinking and shorter range target shooting I definitely like the lower powered .22 better.
@Frank Maze Yes, I like the heavier pellets. The ts-22s are doing fairly well and seem to penetrate well also.
whats your elevation? also, it would have been nice to put up the grain of each pellet/bullet on screen with the rest of those numbers.

@Arturo Avila Calderon Thanks for the recommendation! I will look at some different brands of PBA. I tried the Gamo raptor PBAs in both guns in a few of my other videos and neither gun liked them. But that was only one brand. I will look at some other options.
Hey I was wondering what the second generation magazines for the 22 caliper do all those magazines fit the different rifles I have the swarm Magnum but I guess there's a fusion and some other ones I was just wondering if the magazines all are compatible with one another I bought a magazine for my brand new one online but the top of the magazine is slightly different and the little red latch on top of it it doesn't have it so I want to make sure before I even try to shoot it.
@RICK HUNTER FROM MACROSS CITY The 10x Gen 2 Mag is different but it looks like that is what matters. They all have to be “10x Gen2 .22”.

@Venkat The .22lr is an old bolt action single shot Remington. I have never shot Hatsan. Heard lots of good but I have not had one in my hands so I can’t speak to how they compare. My favorite Gamo is the swarm whisper.

Those pellet rifles don't compare to that 22 the pellets are lighter then the 22 but the 22 is going just as fast and it a heavier projectile shoot all three of them at a 2x4 at 40 yards and see which one gets more penetration

@Mi Sa I didn’t hit it. It loops over the top of the barrel and through a sleeve but that sleeve doesn’t tighten. It slipped out of that sleeve on that recoil and just flipped down loose. I left it loose after that. It’s about 8 inches from the end of the barrel so it doesn’t affect anything to let it hang.

@whitmanft It did come loose but the strap is several inches from the end of the barrel. The recoil just caused the excess strap to come loose.

@Greg Demeter I believe the pellets I used in the velocity test were 14 grain and they were only in the 800fps range. 17 grain would be a little slower I would think. The advertised speed is with super light weight alloy pellets. I could not get those light weights to shoot well. I prefer the heavier pellets even though they are slower.

@big rocc The magnum is still a powerful break barrel pellet rifle. Just not as much as they advertise. It seems they are inflating their numbers a little. You can definitely find more powerful pcp air rifles though.
Is that a CB cap or an actual short? Notice the bullet weights are different between the 22short and the pellet rifle!
@Hadenuf p It was short. Can’t recall bullet weight. My favorite is the 22lr. Second would be the swarm whisper.
@@HuntShootLive from the FPS you recorded of the short it was probably a CB cap. If I'm not wrong I don't think the CB caps don't get have any gunpowder in them I think it's powered by a thick coat of primer. Not trying to pick your experiment to pieces,I just find the fine details interesting.

@Jerry Basham It’s been a long time so if I didn’t say then I can’t be certain. I believe i used the premier 14 grain hollow point in both pellet rifles.

You didn't read the Box. It said those velocities were with aluminum alloy pellets, not lead.
@Walter Shumate It’s the super light weight of the alloy, not the material itself that makes the difference. Problem is, the light weight alloy won’t shoot worth crap out of the gun. Even if they did shoot, I would have to question the ability to penetrate. 14 grain doesn’t hit like 22 grain so I’m sure 9 grain would be terrible performance.

@tonyboyhawaii68 I can’t get the lightweight alloy pellets to do anything. Terrible groups. Won’t load right. Won’t pick up on the chronograph. I’m not a fan. 14-18 grain seems to be the sweet spot for the 22.

Gamo is claiming 1300fps on the magnum using the PBA Raptor 9.7gr alloy pellets. If they worked properly in the magazine (they don't), they were accurate (they're horrible in the magnum), that'd be 36fpe(49J) at the muzzle. That's more than a lot of popular PCP guns, so clearly they got creative with the math.
That said, 14.5gr@875fps is 25fpe (33J), which means it's definitely still in the same (power) class as common PCP guns, which is great. Accuracy otoh is... disappointing. I'm about to go test some 21gr hp slugs in wet magazines to see how they expand at 15&30 yards. The damage normal ~14gr diablo pellets did to the thick rim of a heavy soup can base impressed me yesterday.
@Nicholas Alt Yeah, they got very creative with the numbers. I prefer the Swarm Whisper. Much less shake from the pistol, just as accurate, and less expensive.
Tests with 512 compressed, saturated magazine pages went well. The 21gr hp slugs did expand enough to increase energy transfer. Same result at both 15 and 25 yards. They went through almost 2 solid inches - over 400 pages. 14.4gr Gamo PBA bullet pellets didn't deform at all, but had almost complete penetration. They'll also blow a nice exit hole out of 3/4" MDF, which surprised me. Traditional wadcutter pellets went through about 175 pages at 25yd and the entrance "wound" was impressive - would hit hard at close range for targets not needing the penetration.
I got the rifle specifically to handle raccoons taking our chickens, so the extra power over the whisper made that decision for me - 675fps w/14.5gr in the whisper is 15fpe vs 25fpe at the magnum's 875fps as per your tests. That's 2/3 more energy, and giving the ability to use PCP weight pellets and slugs is huge imo. The accuracy improved a lot after cleaning and running a couple alloy pellets through. I'm going to have to play with it some more and figure out what variables are impacting it.
Another guy testing these rifles said that the velocity is higher at Sea Level...
@Joe_Goofball It’s the other way. The higher altitude you are the more muzzle velocity you retain down range. Air is less dense at higher altitude than at sea level. However, if you are shooting in very high heat at low altitude and very low heat at high altitude it could balance out. So, both temperature and altitude play a role in velocity.

@@HuntShootLive CB caps are nearly silent out of a rifle…shorts are still too loud to go unnoticed. CB caps are very accurate. Excellent for safe target shooting and plinking with your favorite bolt action .22 rifle. Hopefully someone is still making them 😊

@ADSUPINTHIS They may have used very light pba pellets. I couldn’t get anything lighter than 14 grains to perform worth anything though.

Only 521 fps for the .22 short ? How heavy is the bullet? According to the Shooter 's Bible , .22 short , 27 gr. Velocity should be 1105 fps !
@Ralphruhl3 They are 30 grain “low velocity” loads advertised on the box as 640 FPS. I have found data published by companies is always greatly exaggerated.
@@HuntShootLive thanks , so the energy is about 18 FPE , less powerful than the Gamo Magnum 22 air gun !
@Ralphruhl3 Yes… the Magnum is not far behind a 22 lr. Of course, that is with a pellet basically one quarter the weight as a 22lr bullet (14.3 pellet vs 40 grain bullet) but still impressive for a break barrel air rifle.
@@HuntShootLive there are 3 companies that make 50 Cal air rifles that develop around 800 FPE , and soon the .72 Cal Zeus air rifle will be on sale , it shoots lead bullets up to 1082 grains, energy up to 1500 FPE !
