Gamo Swarm Magnum 10x Gen3i Chronograph Test

  • Running some pellets over the chrono with the Gamo Magnum. Local elevation is 4000 feet above sea level, so velocities will be a bit slower than what is expected at lower elevations. I was getting quite a few "error" readings on the chrono, but managed to get some useful data.

I'm still learning the hold on this one. The other day I was printing 1/2" at 25 yards with the JSB 18.13gr. Yesterday when I shot this vid, I did some shooting also, and my groups were opened up to about 2" with the same pellet. It was windy, but not THAT windy. So I will work on that a bit. When I share a shooting vid I want to show the gun's ability, not MY inability.....grin

Thanks for the realistic chronograph information on this air rifle. Lots of hype on how much power these expensive air rifles have. The facts are something else. You can go to a box store and buy one for a hell of a lot less with same chronograph velocities. In all the world the rarest of all things the truth based on facts.

My Gamo Magum settled in around 910 fps with the Crossman pellets down here at my Florida altitude after a thousand shots. For a break barrel it's extremely accurate. The problem is it eats scopes.

That seems like great performance. So far mine hasn't broken the included scope, or a Hawke I had on it for a short time. I'm sure it is only a matter of time though. They probably did get the advertised velocity, but under ideal laboratory conditions. Perfect pellet, perfect temperature, perfect humidity factor, perfect air density. One can get higher velocities by Dieseling. Dieseling is where you put a drop of gun oil on a pellet before firing it. The sudden compression of the air produces enough heat to ignite the oil. The burning of the oil produces extra pressure, thus extra velocity. The oil probably also acts as a seal to retain more pressure. I've done this even with a bb fired from a 177 caliber pellet/bb gun. It worked. Keep in mind though, pellet guns were not designed for the extra pressure Dieseling produces. So be careful!

@@bobybaba5267 I think it's definitely the elevation, not the gun. Thinner air in the compression chamber just isn't going to give as much 'boost' as thicker air. I'm getting about 850 fps with the Crosman 14.3gr, so your velocity of 835 at 5000 ft doesn't surprise me. I think I'm losing 50-75 fps depending on pellet weight, as compared to down near sea-level. You're likely losing 75-100 fps. Shane

@@shanepitzer4126 bogus advertisement in my opinion, nobody wants a gun saying 1300fps from a brand that doesn’t even sell pellets availably that can shoot that speed let alone anywhere close. I was shooting 25 grain jsb hollow points out of my .22 magnum gen3 do you think that’s enough to kill a raccoon or should I use smaller pellets for more penetration

@@loudamato9480 I've never tried 25grain. Maybe test it on a board or something for penetration. I would imagine it will work, but always a good idea to test penetration on a few random things.

Which Handan 125 do you own that is 100 fps faster than this Gamo ?

Well, I have to eat my words there. When My Hatsan 125 Sniper QE was new, it was probably registering higher velocities due to new dieseling. A couple days ago I did a side-by-side chrono test with the Hatsan 125 and Gamo Mgnum. Some results (elevation 4000ft):
      Crosman 14.3gr - Hatsan 910fps, Gamo 850 fps
      JSB 18.13 - Hatsan 805fps, Gamo 775fps.
