The Farming Airgunner absolutely my Hatsan 125 Vortex in .22 is steady at 27-28FPE with every pellet I’ve tried. It’s heavier than my fathers mossy and Remington shotguns

Gmar880 I have the Hatsan Torpedo 155 in .22, and that thing hits hard even using standard Crosman 14.3 Hollowpoint and pointed pellets. I’d honestly say the H&N hornet pellets in the 155 could probably take larger game within 25 yards or possibly 30 yards in a survival situation. After getting into airguns I realized that powder burners aren’t as necessary. Sure for home defense, but a pcp like the Hatsan Invader would make a sufficient home defense gun, especially being it’s semi auto.

It's nice to see someone actually comparing the pellets equally by foot-pounds generated. My experience has been that the type of Crosman pellets you used don't expand because of the combination of materials the pellet is made of. These are the type of pellet I have used to take quite a few cottontails. Good video.

Yeah, he seems to be a cool, knowledgeable guy, but I don't agree with him running around shooting damn deer and hogs with a pellet gun. Can a pellet gun kill a deer? Yes, but so can a pair of toe nail clippers. Being humane is very important and no one is ever going to convince me that you can drop a deer in his tracks with a .22 or especially a .177.
I can see him shooting a deer, the deer staggering around in confusion and terror as this guy runs up and starts continuously shooting till its dead. Probably take around 15 to 20 pellets and 30 minutes.

Recently received my first air rifle from my father for Christmas. Got to say I love the bloody thing it's a .177 it's the highest UK law will let you have without a gun licence. I shot a couple of cans of the top of my back wall. One of the pellets hit the wall with such force it took the top of the wall off. The wall is made of pure concrete btw. I've had a look online to see the wounds a .177 can deal and it's really nasty the only thing that seems to stop the pellets are bones. Air guns are no joke.

You just gained a new sub. Great information. You're correct, people really do underestimate the power of a modern air rifle. I had a pest opossum on my property. One evening I decided to see if my Gamo Swarm Maxxim .177 would stop the problem. About dusk, I set up and waited. The little bugger came out of cover and headed for the crawlspace. I spotlighted him and snapped my fingers to get its attention. He stopped, looking for the sound. 1 shot right between the peepers. That critter didn't even flinch. Just froze, dropped on his side and didn't even kick. He weighed 7 3/4 pounds. No more critter.

I recently started shooting blocks of wet clay avout the size and thickness of 7 or 8 decks of cards lined up. You get a really nice impact opening and wound channel, kind of like ballistic gel that freezes into impact shape.
Personally though I think a phone vook is the best analog.. Take a panel sat upright... Hang the phone book through the back 50 or so pages near the spine in a way that makes the book hang spine up from the panel flatly, as it would rest on a table. You want the edges to be squared up when hanging freely.
When the pellets enter you see a wound path and indication more in line with real game. The thin paper also sustains damage beyond the pellet rest point to indicate bruising from force. Give it a try.

@@STKO2011 And if you want to go for penetration, try the H&N Hornet. Most expensive pellet I ever saw here in Germany but they are really sharp pointed like on the picture of the box. You can prick your finger with a little bit of pressure and they really rip through some stuff. By law we can work with only 7.5 joule over here in G (about half of the energy your rifles have), but shot into telephone books, these guys buried themselfes like 2x-3x deep than the lead only flathead pellets, while the polymer-tip pellets went about 1,5 times deep. Would really love to see the difference with a properly propelled pellet (aka, shot out of a rifle with the energy yours have ;))

The 16 grain H&N hornet pellets I shoot from my Diana model 34 classic .22 air rifle would penetrate through all 5 pounds of the bologna and leave a nasty wound channel the way they penetrate and expand. I recently ordered me another tin of 200 of them from pyramyd air because there is a shortage and they was out of stock a spell

    • @midas7934
      @midas7934 3 ปีที่แล้ว

If youre getting the same model but in .22, the .22 version will always hit harder than the .177 even though is travels slower, which some people like. If it travels at less than 1,250 or 1,200 fps, it travels slower than the speed of sound, it wont have that cracking sound from sonic boom. The .177 is more for target practice as it flies straight farther, the .22 is more for small game hunting as it hits harder, it would be a faster kill, being more ethical. It really depends what youre looking to use it for.

I've recently purchased a Gamo Magnum .177 cal break barell.
Before I bought that, I was shooting a Benjamin Prowler .22 cal.
The difference in the cocking between the 2 rifles is like night and day.
I'm not weak by any means, but cocking the Magnum is a beast.
Other than the traditional way of cocking the gun, do you (or anybody) know of alternative ways of cocking the gun that aren't as tough?
    Would oiling it help?
Any info would be appreciated...thank you!

If yoy are worried about a pellet shortage it might be worth investing in a pellet making press, sure they cost a fair bit but over time youll make your money back, they can also make slugs in pretty much any caliber you want, all you need is lead wire which you can make yourself with two half aluminium block cnc'd or milled a channel into it so when mated together they create a lead wire that way you dont have to buy lead wore on a spool from the manufacturers who sell the press, the wire being perfectly circular isnt essential as it will be squeezed and squished into the correct shape and excess is squeezed out of a small hole built onto the press.
You can go one step furthar and weigh and size the slugs/pellets (i do this with tinned pellets then seperate them into marked tins of their respective weight and gwt the most consistent accuracy that way, sure it takes a bit of time but you can do this while just chilling out or watching tv kust make sire you wash your hands with some dish soap moxed with granulated sugar to really get any particles of lead off you.
You can wash the pellets before weighing and sizing but by doing that you are basically hotting diminishing returns in terms of performance ive learnt from first hand experience the best increase to accuracy is from sizing and weighing.
Its not neccesary but here in the uk with our sub 12 ftlb airguns without an FAC accuracy is the most important factor to consider when it comes to any pest control or small game harvesting

More like serious injury than lethal, but it is possible. Reminds me of that guy who tried to kill both himself and his wife with a 12 fpe springer. Apparently even a point-blank shot to the back of the head (or the roof of the mouth) probably won't kill you, assuming you're a healthy adult.
It will put you in hospital though; a fractured skull isn't fun.
