    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    Excellent advice on the fishfinders. Two years later I'm getting into freshwater fishing again after mainly saltwater fishing for the last 50 years. I figured out which fishfinders I wanted(Garmin) then was fixing up my new "small" boat. I'm ready to buy the Livescope LVS34 and a trolling motor. Now with spot lock and I Link, Minn Kota's partially out. Garmin's Force is way over priced and they seem to have a few hiccups, so not really a good value. I may have to go with a lower cost Terrova with the universal transducer that really only does part of the job....sigh.... fishing cost more than playing golf....

    $400 Garmin 7sv in 2016 was the best fishing investment i made on my 1436 jon boat. $600 hummingbird 7 inch helix I bought for $400 was a close third. 1800 dollar 8hp was the second.

    • @muskogeefisherman
      @muskogeefisherman ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JESSEPAVON my Garmin and hummingbird are both regular SV or SI. I have them dialed in so I can tell the approximate size of fish 30 or 40 feet off to my left or right. I'm sure I could find more fish with a mega side imagining but I know my lakes well enough to go to a point, pocket or brush pile to tell right away if there are any good bass or crappie in the area. I fish heavily pressure smaller lakes (about 1000 to 2500 acres) in Louisiana. As of January 2022 I still have both. Both finders are still worth what I paid for them. I use regular SI or SV, old school 2d and the map mostly on a 3 split screen.

    I’ve spent thousands trying to get a bottom machine that will work in shallow water and deep water over 100 fathoms while commercial fishing. Call me dumb but I just couldn’t get it to show that little incline of gravel in deep water. A 6 foot difference. I settled on a hondex for inshore waters and a big koden for deep water. Both machines have the best transducer and the hodex should do it. I use simrad for plotter auto pilot radar combo. And olex bottom imaging.

    Its now March 2022 and I really enjoyed this video. In fact, I just subscribed to your channel. I’m planning to replace an old Ray Marine A60 that’s currently on my 24 foot Aquasport walkaround. I’m in New Jersey but I missed the Atlantic City boat show so I’m wondering where is the best place to buy a chart plotter/fishfinder unit. I only know West Marine, Amazon and eBay. Is there any other places, including buying straight from the manufacturers that would make the most sense? Thanks again.

    Nice video. Very clear voice and quality video. So I picked up a Garmin UHD93SV on sale for $699. I have to pickup a trolling motor, but MK's don't work w/ the Garmin for contour autopilot which would be perfect for my lake fishing. The Garmin trolling motors are too expensive which provide the feature too... So I got a nice deal on the fish finder and a nice MK Terrova w/ iPilot, but after spending all that money, I still don't have Contour autopilot or Livescope yet. Hoping one day the LiveScope will be less than $1500 and will buy next year as a treat to myself... If I find a deal on a use Hummingbird, most likely will buy a small screen Helix just for the contour autopilot capability, which the MK trolling motor i buy now has to include a transducer and iPilot Link addition. Definateily gotta do research and take time to plot our future goals so you don't make a mistake on the first 2 most important... Fish Finder and Bow Trolling Motor. P.S. - I can't believe someone thumb downed your video??? ;o)

    Lawren, I'm looking for a new unit for the front of my boat and transducer on the trolling motor. I just need regular sonar and would like to have DI. I use to run Lowrance years ago but went to humminbird but with all the new technology I'm open to all suggestions. I'm like everyone else that wants most bang for the buck. I currently have a 13 year old 9" bird that started cutting off and on last fall so now is the time to replace it. I'm not interested in net working just the basics since I might bass fish for a while or crappie fish and the past several years I really like big bluegills and redears which is why I would like DI on the trolling motor. I already have it on the dash with my 10" bird...Thanks for any suggestions you can send this way about Lowrance and best place to buy one and thanks for all the great videos you do.....I like them regardless of the commercials.....LOL

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd look for a Helix with Mega DI. They seem to have the best imaging sonar today. The 7 and 8 inch models come with a different Transducer than the 9 inch and up ones. So you're better off getting the bigger screens for the better transducer

      I bought a 7 sv Garmin in 2016. I made my 1436 jon into a bass boat in 2016. It's going strong today. My 7 inch hummingbird helix I bought 2 years ago is on my transom. Both were good
      buys. After a few years I think 2 fish finders are over kill on local lakes. After a while you will learn ever corner, brush pile, channel swing, or rock pile. Time on the water making way points will negate big 12 inch mega imaging if your fishing the same 2000 acre over and over.

The average depth I fish in is 2 to 6 foot of water with a max anywhere of 12. Don’t need anything except to see bait fish and fish and structure and bottom. My new 18 ft G3 18 ft Angler I'm picking up this spring 2022 will have an Ulterra trolling motor with a Mega Di transducer built in. So I was considering a 9 inch Humminbird Mega di screen on the front deck where I also hope to use my new 9 inch Garmin ice fishing Livescope witrh transducer on a seperate deck mounted pole. I usually troll a lot with my present Terrova on my smaller side console boat and will likely continue to troll a lot with the Ulterra flat lining. I'm wondering whether to install a similar Humminbird at the helm but would want to be able to use it with or when the trolling motor is not deployed ( with a transom mount transducer) .I there some sort of netorking needed to do this? Is Navionics still the best mapping for Georgian Bay and larger inland lakes in the Parry Sound area and will it work on new Humminbirds being a Garmin product ? What is the best chart plotter / fish finder choice for updating existing or creating your own contour maps on smaller inland lakes in central Ontario? A lot to consider for a new boat. Coming from a single Lowrance Elite 7 FS with side scan presently. Your advice would be appreciated.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For networking two helix unit you'll need an Ethernet cable and two Ethernet adapters. Navionics+ would be the best chart for that area and it will work with Humminbird. I think Humminbird autochart live is the best mapping today so get a Zerolines card as well and you should be all set

    All of the brands have strictly enforced MRP pricing. So if you see a price at west marine or academy is the price no matter where you go. Unless the unit is refurbished or remanufactured then it's accordingly discounted.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      MRP is also suspended many times through the year. Buying from smaller retailers rather than chain stores can usually help you get around MRP. It's also illegal to enforce in many places like where I'm from in Canada

    • @devinmartin7626
      @devinmartin7626 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InDepthSonar no it's not suspended, and there's a reason there are so few certified distributors and installers by you

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @devin Martin reread my response. Many manufacturers suspend MRP through the year. Black Friday is a prime example. MAP is there to do what you said... Keep the price the same everywhere. That doesn't mean you can't seem it for less... It just means you can't Advertise (M"A"P) for less. MRP is the minimum price they want you to sell it for. Ask any manufacturer rep on how they will enforce that. Any retailer with a little creativity can get around that if it was enforced

    I am looking for a fish finder around 500$ and will be able to jig lake trout in 100+ feet of water, and also a lot of bass and pike fishing. Maybe with Side view If possible, what would you recommend? Cause I was looking at the garmin striker plus 7sv, but it said it came with a 250w transducer, which doesn’t seem enough! What’s your opinion on what I should buy? Maybe I should buy only the sonar, and buy a transducer after.. Thanks

      If you go SideVu then the Striker Vivid 7sv, if not then I'd go with the echomap 63cv UHD. Going to be hard to find a unit under $500 with a 600w transducer. 250w is probably the best you'll get.

    Not sure if you covered this or not too many comments to go through. How can you find out what mapping software is best for your area? I'm in Eastern Ontario like the Ottawa area what should I be looking at? For my aluminum boat/kayak I was looking at a 5". Can you recommend? Nothing too fancy basically sonar and GPS and possibly down/side imagining ( or its corresponding term depending on the company). I'm not manufacturer biased at all.

    • @InDepthSonar

      Best way is to go into a store and get them to show you the options. Or you can view some online. Navionics and CMAP both have chart viewers on their websites. In just about all cases in Ontario Navionics is the way to go.
      Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 or Garmin Striker 5 would be the way I'd go
