  • Blackmagic Design has launched their NEWEST 6k camera, the PYXIS 6k. A fully customisable next generation full frame 6k cinema camera.
    We asked for it and Blackmagisc design has delivered it, the Pyxis box styled camera.
    And I am super interested to hear your thought on it….
    Blackmagic PYXIS 6K is a high end digital film camera that produces precise skin tones and rich organic colors. It features an extremely versatile design that lets you build the perfect camera rig for your production.
    The Pyxis 6k has a full frame 36 x 24mm 6K sensor with wide dynamic range with a built in optical low pass filter that's been designed to perfectly match the sensor. Plus there are 3 models available in either EF, PL or L-Mount. You also get 2 x CFexpress media recorders and Ethernet for sharing media to Blackmagic Cloud! It even records both 12-bit Blackmagic RAW and extremely small H.264 proxies files at the same time.
    With multiple mounting points and accessory side plates, it’s easy to configure Blackmagic PYXIS into the camera you need it to be! PYXIS’ compact body is made from precision CNC machined aerospace aluminum, which means it is lightweight yet very strong. You can easily mount it on a range of camera rigs such as cranes, gimbals or drones! In addition to the multiple 1/4″ and 3/8″ thread mounts on the top and bottom of the body, Blackmagic PYXIS has a range of side plates that further extend your ability to mount accessories such as handles, microphones or even SSDs. All this means you can build the perfect camera for the any production that’s both rugged and reliable.
    Blackmagic PYXIS has the professional features you need for feature film, television programming and documentaries, however now this same quality can be used to create cinematic content for social media, TH-cam videos and more. You get the same features found on high end digital film cameras, allowing capture of deeper colors, higher image detail and a wider dynamic range between the brightest highlights and deepest shadows. It's the reason why feature films look so amazing and now you can get the same high end production values for any kind of work. Imagine shooting with large format digital film on low budget independent films, TV commercials or even corporate video

Smashed screens (bad camera assistant), black hole sun highlight clipping, but never electrical functions so Im curious what your experience has been.

    The banding issues on the Cinema 6K at 3200 still makes me rather nervous to go all in on the Pyxis. Even though the rolling shutter can be cleaned up in Resolve, the Broadcast G2 kind of beats it for now till people start getting their Pyxis for review and we will see from there.

    ZCAM F6 has open gate 3:2 6K raw at higher frame rates, ProRes and H.265, 4K 120p, 15 stops dynamic range, more lens mount options, internal NDs for PL and EF mounts. Much more camera for a similar price to the PYXIS

    • @champagnesocialist9301
      @champagnesocialist9301 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The important news from BMD isn’t the PYXIS. It’s the 2 flavours of URSA Cine. They will certainly be contenders for DPs who shoot Alexa/Venice/Red. Amazing specs on paper. If they truely can achieve 16 stops of dynamic range then they will shatter the current high end cinema camera market. The 65mm 17K model could be the biggest leap forward in digital cinema cameras since the original Alexa killed celluloid

    While the price is the main draw, what its missing is glaring. Those hyping it up without experiencing it on a paid shoot may find themselves regrettably coming back down to Earth. I believe DM will take the tempeture of this offering and use the feedback to create the future Pyxes Pro that should have build in ND, shoot in ProRes, 14 stop range, 4K at 60 or even 120fps and 14 and maybe even 16 bit internal recording. With those upgrades, those hyping up the price of the Pyxis will also hype up a $4K to $5K price.

    • @EntrNmHre
      @EntrNmHre  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Im not sure if the price of a pro version would jump up that much, the Ursa 12k dropped to 5999 at one point….and I dont think Blackmagic design would want the Pyxis line clashing like price wise. But who knows….balckmagic is running their own race now.

    • @andynonimuss6298
      @andynonimuss6298 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Pyxis will easily overtake the Pocket Cinema cameras in terms of sales and popularity. The Pyxis has far greater mounting flexibility options over the Pocket Cinema Camera body style and its more professional box-style form factor will gather more respect from clients and other video professionals... rather than walking-in with a photography-style Pocket camera. Blackmagic has already stated they didn't want to add the NDs to keep the form factor as small and compact as possible. Pyxis will easily end-up being Blackmagic's number one selling camera, and with that they WILL have upgraded versions in 2025. It's a great time to sell-off your Pocket Cinema Camera to get into the Pyxis ecosystem this summer and then your Pyxis gear options and third-party options will be ready for an updated Pyxis version in 2025!

    I have an Ursa Broadcast 6k that I don’t really use for broadcast (only straight filming), so downsizing to the Pyxis makes a ton of sense from my point of view. I can see this on a Tilta Lightweight Shoulder Rig with a follow focus (or even the DJI LiDAR system) for a run and gun setup that will be much easier on my shoulder. Strap a cell phone or hotspot to the side and you have instant proxies to the cloud for super fast turnaround such as with trade show and conference coverage. My pre-order is in. I can’t wait to get a closer look.

    • @ThomasCristofoletti
      @ThomasCristofoletti 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It shoots only raw, so to be honest it doesn’t seem the right camera to cover events or broadcast. On a shoulder the screen would be quite an impediment, I imagine getting in contact with your face quite a lot.

    • @waveland
      @waveland 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ThomasCristofoletti The CC (which I shoot now on my shoulder) is 3” wider than the Pyxis and has the cables sticking out the side. The new design will stay out of my ear quite well by comparison, plus the quick access buttons are more readily available. Now it’s certainly not a hard core broadcast platform, but for quick turnaround social media postings from an event, it would work just fine using the proxies which can have a baked in LUT. But the lack of ProRes could be a problem for some settings where you need to do a direct media handoff. I don’t do those sorts of jobs very often however, and if needed I can always rig in a VideoAssist and get the ProRes that way.

    Not what I had in mind. I was hoping for something more along the lines of a well thought out camera with functional features like a SDI or HDMI, port at the front of the camera that will allow for a top mounted video monitoring.
    Maybe BMD will release a video assist (non-recorder) touchscreen monitor that will work via the front mounted USB-C port and allow for you to access the menu. That alone would have me excited about this camera.
    Interchangeable lens mounts would have been extremely nice. This would have allowed for 3rd party mounts with filter insert capabilities, but no. They didn’t think of that unfortunately.
    Finally I am disappointed that we don’t at least get 120 fps in 4k. I would have settled for 100fps and been happy, but again nope. Black Magic had the chance to make the perfect camera and instead gave us Yet another big screen on a camera that simply did not need it. That screen real estate could have giving way to dual XLR inputs, genlock and other features.

      oh I get you, no offence taken, the title is more about the design, I think the pocket line will disappear now, this is BMD way forward. But the sensor being 6 years old, this I would like to know more about….?

    Really really disappointed in this model.
    They are using an old sensor with limited DR, and how come there's no inbuilt ND filters? Theyve changed battery type, but theres no V mount option, no interchangeable lens mount, no AF and no IBIS, no prores, no hdmi port, and the words worst screen placing!!!
    Honestly this is so disapointing.
    Id of paid 5k if this had the above!
    They had a chance to smash the market, but scored an own goal instead!

      You have some fair points….but no camera is for everyone. Im interested to know if you are in the market for a new camera, which one you will now buy since the pyxis 6k has let you down so badly?

      @CineChimp I am in the market for a replacement for my battered S1, I was really hoping that this blackmagic might offer me a chance to move to Blackmagic, but unfortunately it's a real letdown (imho) it looks like I'm staying with panasonic and getting a S5iix, but I'll hold off for a couple of months as I hear there may be a new model coming next month.

      I have a sneaky suspicion that an s1hmk2 is coming and if they ad some of the great features from the s5mkiix - would be a fantastic camera.

    The future is here? You mean lousy rolling shutter, bad dynamic range, terrible in low light? Do you think that’s the future…? Get a clue and buy a Sony camera. The FX 3 or the FX6 will blow this camera away in every possible category.

      Think of it like this, accessories are a far better investment than over paying for a jack of all trades camera. Gimbals, lidar and NDS can go on any camera. I get your point, but the future comment is directed towards the change in body style, and switch to higher resolution FF multi-format sensors and how that has permeated throughout 2 BMD camera segments (Ursas and the new Pyxis). The future meaning, BMD wont turn back now - the pyxis this is the future of their affordable camera line ...

      I really don't understand the logic behind lamenting not having internal NDs, internal ibis, and autofocus. If adding these things brings the cost up to the same amount as getting these things externally and adding them to a camera rig in a form factor that we've been begging for in order to rig it, then isn't it the same thing? I don't necessarily understand why have to spend the money inside the camera to pay the same amount outside the camera; and if we have been using cameras before the release of this one, shouldn't we have almost all the accessories we need to make this camera work? It just doesn't make much sense as an argument.

      I think there is a work around for all that stuff you don't like. But where we do agree is autofocus.... Once lidar has eye detection I won't care about autofocus anymore. From my experience lidar seems slightly off because it misses the eye.
