  • In this episode Matt and Andrew work on getting the new Briggs and Stratton 13HP engine to fit the Cushman frame and fit under the original sheet metal. This Briggs engine is a similar size as the Harbor Freight Predator and other Honda clone 13HP engines. We will be building a jack shaft and installing a torque converter to the engine.

    I dig it! Looking forward to seeing it gooooooo! As for the guy sitting in the corner all stretched out. He needs a broom put in his hands! There's only room for one "Idle Times Garage" and I've claimed that already.

      Thats Matt's brother. He was waiting for all the silly recording to be done so he could do floor repairs and rockers on his truck. The two younger kids in the video are his as well!! Thanks for watching!! -Mike/ITG

    Why not relocate engines gas tank under neath flip up access hatch? It looks like it should fit. Or fab a new gas tank that fits in the original location? I really like what you are doing with the rat cush! Keep up the inspriring work!

      We have a couple options, under that hatch is actually a small storage area that we would like to retain, but with the stock tank off there is a good bit of area if we wanted to build a custom one. Thanks for watching!!! - Mike/ITG

      @@IronTrapGarage mike i like that storage compartment also and the idea of having access to the gas filler also i def see options im sure you will come with a good one having a virgin gas tank makes modifying it safer... Luv the patina

      @@IronTrapGarage I would figure something out to move the gas tank. Im just not a fan of having it coming up through the seat, and a seat riser wouldnt look good or be very comfortable.

    Are you going to "Flip Flop" the rear wheel in order to line up the sprocket with the output shaft on the Briggs?

    • @douglasrodrigues9329
      @douglasrodrigues9329 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The brake rod will have to be redesigned to have a functional rear brake too. The original Cushman engine on this model was only 5 hp and topped out at about 35 mph. The 1959 Super Eagle I used to own with the 8 hp flathead engine topped out at about 50 mph with an 18 tooth primary sprocket, a 60 tooth rear wheel sprocket, 10 inch wheels, Mini carb, and a high performance cam. I test rode another Eagle with the 8 hp flathead engine that had the stroke kit installed. It felt like it had twice the hp of mine.

      The engine choice was more for the ease of use. Electric start, and they are very simple engines. I personally built a go kart with a 6.5 hp version of this engine, and geared right it went almost 80 mph and was a handful. This thing with the right gearing will easily keep up with traffic. Thanks for watching!! -Mike/ITG

    What the heck happened to this "quick and simple" project? It appealed to me because it wasn't going to be long and drawn out, and now we don;t hear about it at all.
