Beautiful! I had a 58 8hp Eagle, rode it 62-63, had an absolute blast back then. I borrowed the $125 from my Grandfather and paid him back, made a payment every week till it was paid off. Good times!
The last Cushman I had was a red super eagle, 8 hp , looked almost that good. If you had a paper route, you could afford one. 50,000 miles and 3 engine rebuilds later, I got my first car. Great scooter, great rebuild, great report. Brings back nice memories THANKS
It's a super eagle because of the clutch cover and dual exhaust but it is NOT a silver eagle. The silver eagle had an aluminum 9 HP engine and did not come out until about 1963.
I bought a used 1958 Eagle in Alaska while working there during the summer between my Junior and Senior year in college. When I got it back to the University of Idaho, I had the engine rebuilt in Lewiston, but ruined the ring job riding it back to Moscow up Whitebird hill which was a long pull. I continued to ride it my final year in school, but it was burning oil, so I kept adding more and more STP goo. Finally on a run out to Troy Idaho, it slowly ground to a stop. When I removed the oil plug nothing came out for a while and then finally the STP goo dripped down like cold honey. Sold it to a guy for $50. The duel pipes were cool but totally for show since the motor only had a single cylinder. Lot of fun. The two speed also had an automatic clutch, so you really didn't need to push in the clutch to start out. My scooter always ground gears going between first and high gear.
This IS NOT a Siver Eagle. The Silver Eagle wasn't introduced until 1960, and it had a completely different OHV engine. I have a 1959 Super Eagle like this one, with the flat head engine like this one except mine is Air Force blue. The Silver Eagles had a problem with the new engine shaking the frame apart. The factory had to go back offering the flat head engine again until they came up with a fix for the engine vibration problem. The fix was to mount the OHV engine in rubber mounts in 1962, and retro-fit the rubber mounts to the 1960 model. That's the reason why there are both type engines after 1960.
I saw all these around Lincoln, NE where they were made at 21st & Q Streets. University of Nebraska reacquired the land where the CMW was and have torn down all the buildings. Forever gone!
douro20, I have a 1959 Super Eagle with 16,000 miles. Still running strong and doesn't burn oil. Top speed with the original 18 tooth primary sprocket, and the original 65 tooth rear sprocket was about 45 mph as indicated on the GPS. One poster mentioned 60 mph. That is simply impossible. I'm working on it now. Changed to a 20 tooth primary sprocket, and a 60 tooth rear sprocket. Also installed new 22 mm Makuni carburetor. Supposed to increase power by 15% by not havig a butterfly shaft for a throttle. Also changed the speedometer nylon gear in attempt to correct for the speedometer reading 7 mph too fast. I was told that Cushman intentionally had the speedometers reading 7 mph fast to keep the kids under control. If the speedo still reads fast, I'll go to the next larger size wheels and tires. By my math calculations, with the larger sprockets I just put on, top speed calculates to 49.9 mph. Won't know until it's reassembled. New brake lining won't arrive until Sept 7.
I had a Cushman back in '55 and rode it 5 mi. to work everyday. When the hi-way was iced, it was one mean machine. Thanks for the memories.

Absolutely beautiful! I'm glad that you ride it too. Me and my wife just bought a truckster to play with so we have now joined the Cushman family.
It is funny how many similarities there are to this and the new Honda Ruckus. Scooters and Mopeds are pretty cool!
