When people of the Li ethnic group first landed on the tropical island of Hainan in southern China over 3,000 years ago, boats were turned upside down to make shelters. Today, thatch roof houses in the shape of boat huts are still standing in a remote village in Dongfang City. The house's craftsmanship has become a cherished cultural heritage. Follow CGTN to find out how the small village is preparing for the island's opening to the rest of the world.
    About 'Go! Hainan' series

😲😲😲. Your way of making huts and lifestyles are very similar to our Lai Brothers and Sisters of Myanmar who are a part of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo. We Chin-Kuki-Mizo also have a dance similar to yours. In the olden days, our Lai Tribe used to dance it whenever one of their family members used to die. And the way how you guys weave is also very similar too. 😂😂👍.

Haters will claim this entire village and museum was built just for propaganda, that their families are being held hostage to force them to dance for the camera, and that 2:43 is a torture device.

@@chakkrapongrattanavong1678 Kra-Dai and Austronesians are closely related, they once belonged to the same family called Austro-Tai. The Hlai used to tattoo their faces and their traditional bamboo dance is very similar to Filipino Tinikling. Such dance forms can also be found among the Zhuang people in Guangxi, indicating a common origin.

They are genetically close to taiwanese aborigines ami and atayal and Filipinos as well as to tai-kadai speakers ex lao loum and southern chinese populations like haikou han etc.
Among east asian populations, malaysians are the farthest from Li people.
Fst genetic distance to Li people (closer to 0, the closer the populations are genetically).
      Haikou Han .0178
      Filipino .0178
      Lao loum .0227
      Cambodian .0343
      Cambodian HGDP .0788
      Malaysian .0804
No samples for indonesian but I think they might be the same with malaysians.

The non-Han people of China are forced to live like Jim Carrey in the 1998 movie, "The Truman Show." They will be ok as long as they do happy-go-lucky things like weaving cloth and doing the bamboo dance (which is also indigenous to the Phillipines). As someone who lived in China for 2 years, I have a message for Xi Jingping: "Good morning, good evening, and good night, in case I do not see you again." And, I hope that we will never see Mr. Xi and his failed, autocratic and facist leadership ever again.
So, Mr. Xi, good evening and good night, but I do not wish you good luck.
