When people of the Li ethnic group first landed on the tropical island of Hainan in southern China over 3,000 years ago, boats were turned upside down to make shelters. Today, thatch roof houses in the shape of boat huts are still standing in a remote village in Dongfang City. The house's craftsmanship has become a cherished cultural heritage. Follow CGTN to find out how the small village is preparing for the island's opening to the rest of the world.

😲😲😲. Your way of making huts and lifestyles are very similar to our Lai Brothers and Sisters of Myanmar who are a part of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo. We Chin-Kuki-Mizo also have a dance similar to yours. In the olden days, our Lai Tribe used to dance it whenever one of their family members used to die. And the way how you guys weave is also very similar too. 😂😂👍.
They might be the original Lai tribe

Haters will claim this entire village and museum was built just for propaganda, that their families are being held hostage to force them to dance for the camera, and that 2:43 is a torture device.
lmao as someone from hainan i can't help but laugh
Sorry but it doesn't looks authentic. Pure propaganda for camera it seems.
They seem like they have Austronesian root. Their clothes and houses kind of remind me of the Kadazan-Dusun people of my country.
They are closely related to Austronesian speakers such as Taiwanese aborigines ami/atayal and Filipinos. Not sure about the kadazan-dusun. Maybe?

Well, Kadazan-Dusun are Austronesian people too. So definitely related.
No, they are Kra-Dai speaking peoples
@@chakkrapongrattanavong1678 But Hlai culture seems closer to Austronesian than Thai and Laos.
@@chakkrapongrattanavong1678 Kra-Dai and Austronesians are closely related, they once belonged to the same family called Austro-Tai. The Hlai used to tattoo their faces and their traditional bamboo dance is very similar to Filipino Tinikling. Such dance forms can also be found among the Zhuang people in Guangxi, indicating a common origin.
I think the bamboo dance is one of the oldest form of traditional dance in the world because it is almost universally found in southeast Asia , India, southern china and even in south America.
Either that, or everybody who ever saw bamboo had the same idea.
we called it tinikling in the Philippines.
no bamboo in south america
Mizo people need to watch this..😮😮the similarities are amazing

People must know that 14 year old girls are not grown women they are children, when they finish 21 years of age they become women! i am Hainan Li people, i dont look chinese i kinda look like thai or something (darker skin tone), same goes for my relatives. I heard our ancestors originate from a warlord in ancient china that fled from mainland to the island of hainan to escape persecution from the new emperor. can any Li or Loy people confirm this?
The Li/Hlai look like Remnants of the Ancestors of the Austronesians who survived the Han Expansion.

Horrible su musica de acceso a su video y Horrible la música en el desarrollo de su video, debieron utilizar musica de la etnia lahu yunnan, a pesar de su intención han cometido una gran falta de respeto a la etnia y al mundo.
Within the four seas we are one family Chinese wisdom. Well presented the common culture of the region. ♥️🇨🇳
WHAT????????????? Are you racist against all people who are not Chinese? If so, that is OK, but PLEASE do not come to our countries and call us racist.
Common culture equals common race, Your racism is obvious.

Anything to do with Indonesians or Malays? Something similar.
yes, the bamboo dance is also quite similar to the Philippines
They are genetically close to taiwanese aborigines ami and atayal and Filipinos as well as to tai-kadai speakers ex lao loum and southern chinese populations like haikou han etc.
Among east asian populations, malaysians are the farthest from Li people.
Fst genetic distance to Li people (closer to 0, the closer the populations are genetically).
Haikou Han .0178
Filipino .0178
Lao loum .0227
Cambodian .0343
Cambodian HGDP .0788
Malaysian .0804
No samples for indonesian but I think they might be the same with malaysians.
I took that from this study

@@cesz0695 Bamboo dance is very common amongst the ethnic minority cultures in Southern China. This custom was probably spread from China to Borneo.
@@jackjackyphantom8854 NO those costumes originate from GOD.
Yeah close to some Dayak tribes in Kalimantan

The Bamboo Dance looks similar to some Filipino Bamboo Dances.
リー族の為に海南島が独立してほしい!!
I feel like since the accusations against China in Xinjiang are made. They can’t show enough ethnic groups on CGTN. 😂😂
CHINA NUMBA WAN!!!
The non-Han people of China are forced to live like Jim Carrey in the 1998 movie, "The Truman Show." They will be ok as long as they do happy-go-lucky things like weaving cloth and doing the bamboo dance (which is also indigenous to the Phillipines). As someone who lived in China for 2 years, I have a message for Xi Jingping: "Good morning, good evening, and good night, in case I do not see you again." And, I hope that we will never see Mr. Xi and his failed, autocratic and facist leadership ever again.
So, Mr. Xi, good evening and good night, but I do not wish you good luck.
You are a liar
Why on earth are you playing Mexican music for a Chinese video game
