Hey Steve how are ya. Just a quick thank you from not only myself but all the viewers on your channel. You are a great instructor and very knowledgeable about angling. I appreciate you sharing things. Always makes me think about it even if I already know what your talking about. Gives me that other perspective and that's another ace in my pocket when I go out no matter if it's fun fishing or if I'm trying to make the cut.
Thank you! That means so much to me and helps me to keep pushing forward. I’m actually sitting here right now trying to get the energy and motivation to get filming some more stuff and editing before I leave for the Mississippi in a few days. You have motivated me to get to work! I appreciate you taking the time to write me and watch. Good luck out there!
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I'm glad I motivated you. Spread that positive energy through the camera and the tip of the rod. Good luck on the mighty miss. I'm rooting for ya.
Such a great sport. All of us are always learning and experimenting. I’m heading to the Upper Mississippi next week and that giant fishery changes so fast. It will be very interesting to see what works. I have some things I want to have happen, but that rarely is the way it turns out. Lol.
Soft jerkbait on 12# and 40# braid, flat side crankbait 3' to 5' and 3/8oz. swim jig in bluegill and shad colors are with me all the time....throw in a shaky head and I'm good
I am bank fishing the South Holston River point in Tennessee were it meets the North Holston river. The smallmouth shut down for some reason for about a week now ? I do not think the water temperature went up cause the outdoor weather remains around 85F. Some guy fished side by side with me in the North Holston the other day with a small square bill and only I caught a dink with the 5" wacky worm. I have to admit these rivers are very warm in the summer for smallmouth, but why all of a suddin did they shut down ? I think they did not really want to eat all summer but they have to, they just took a break and they will all start up again when they get hungry again, I imagine about 80% of them all stick together like a light switch, Hungry/Not hungry. I think what flipped the switch off was the rivers got a lot of rain about a week ago and the water turned chocolate milk for a couple days. I am sure you are right Steve, when this water starts to cool down they will want to chase more.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors No, it is a little faster after the rain, infact at the end of the rocky point ( Jetty ) there is a break in the jetty so water can flow into the North Holston from The South Holston making perfect white water in the North Holston and I fish the seems of it in the 5 foot, 4 foot clear water. Both rivers have been going a good speed of about 1-2 MPH for a few days now.
A lot of times on my river this time of year they are surprisingly in the fastest current. Just when you think they should be in eddies or slack water.
Great question. Most often, on lakes I will retrieve with the wind when paralleling a shore line, but if I can find a location where the wind is hitting directly into a shoreline, I will have the wind to my back and cast up where the waves are pounding the shallows and retrieve it back against the wind. On rivers, I try to always throw them with the current no matter which way the wind is blowing unless the wind is so strong and coming from the opposite direction, then I will turn it around. I hope this all makes sense. Let me know if I need to clarify what I am trying to explain.
If I was going finesse I am a huge fan of the 3 1/2” Baby Z too for a soft plastic. Otherwise I try to get something going with a 100 or 200 hard jerkbait as well.
Whenever I fish my jerkbait, I always get my line tangled around the hooks. Not sure why. Have you ever experienced this? Also, this video is very informative and you do a really good job presenting information.

Great content Steve. I appreciate how you keep things simple. I've been saving a bunch of your videos so I can refer to them later, or in the moment.
That’s awesome! Thanks so much. I’m glad you find them helpful.

Great stuff as usual Steve, thank you!
Thanks so much for watching!
Great tips!!! I like using the squarebill crankbaits. Had much success with them but I know the others work as well!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
The squarebills are such fun. Hard to put down that is for sure.

That can be so frustrating. Has the current really slowed down?

On the spinnerbait when it's windy, do you typically retrieve it with the wind-driven current or against it? Thanks!

Thank you sir. I was wondering you said the baitfish might be small. What finesse baits would you recommend for that?

Thanks! I haven’t had it happen too often. Are you using a snap or tying directly to the lure?
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I am tying directly. Im also using a different brand than you (rapala) not sure if that has anything to do with it
@@cgravey Rapala is a great jerkbait. I guess I would have to see it being worked. If you get a chance, film it and email it to me.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Please answer that publicly. I have the same problem.

This dude doesn't fish very many lakes.if he did he would know NOT ALL lakes have grass in them 😂😂
I should have added a section about no grass lakes. Thanks!
