The best thing I ever did for my fishing was getting into the aquarium hobby. Learning and watching how fish interact and school and think, it truly was invaluable for my fishing. I’d highly suggest it for anyone involved with fishing, it doesn’t have to be complex, just a small aquarium will completely change your perspective on how fish think and interact with the world.
WOW just wow. the minute ya said deer behavior and hills my mind went to how they stay on the slopes and don't skyline themselves... bass ledge behavior anyone...anyone...Buhler...anyone?.
It all clicked for me in the last few months. Lures, colors, bass movement, rod reel combos, ill tell ya i have watched hours and hours of guys fishing instruction videos. But honestly i love just going out with a new lure and practice using it. See how it works best and with what set-up. You know my job is about puzzles and well my fishing fun is puzzles too. Thank you for all you do! Your instructions are top notch and i follw your thought and approach perfectly! God bless ya Sir!
Buck Perry was the first too start teaching structure and on how fish related too it. Back then you were lucky Iff you had a flasher. But he’s the first to clarify. Things terms. Break lines. Saddles humps structures. How fish follow the structure. How to fish it. After that. Was the Lynders.Ale & Ron when they moved to Brainard Minnesota and started writing ✍️ articles about it. There’s much more movement up and down structures. All that. First ever depth control lures ever made. The Buck Perry’s. Spoon plug.
This was profound, as u were going thru it the lights were coming on in my head... so simple but overlooked concept... ur videos are amazing.... thank u for helping us to mature as fishermen .. 😊
I’m a new subscriber and have been very impressed with your videos. I am 73 and have been fishing bass for 30 years now in California primarily our highland reservoirs, the Delta and Clearlake. I especially liked this video because didn’t talk about lures and presentations. You and I know that there are many ways to catch bass in all seasons of movement. But the bigger picture that you pointed out in this video is really the heart of finding fish. And we both know the tough part of fishing is finding fish. Thank you for your knowledge, clarity, honesty and keep em coming. Ken Lowy. Brentwood California (northern CA.)
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write! I value your insights and really hope to help anglers with that tough part of finding fish. As you said, that is the real key and then there are lots of ways to catch them. California is one state I have not had the chance to fish yet. I need to take a month and make a West coast swing. Hopefully sooner than later.
I love this video this is like a great introduction to how to develop patterns I really hope that you expand on this and make a series out of this type of video great great information Steve
Thank you! I definitely plan on it. I have a bunch of topics that I want to include, I just need to spend a lot of hours on the water now to get all the footage. Hopefully, I can get a bunch done in the next couple of days - if the storms would stop rolling through. lol.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I feel ya rain rain rain. But I tell ya what Im killing them in the small Waters with all the craws getting washed in. Find running water and the bass are there eating mud bugs !
You're welcome! It was one of those moments when a great angler shared some advice with me that just stuck. I am so thankful for that ride to the boat ramp with him.
So interesting. I've been using a small amount of this reasoning just by accident, without really understanding why. I guess it's kind of intuitive. But you take it all the way to a much more detailed reasoning and conclusion. And it's the "why" where learning really happens. So many people, regardless of what they're teaching, seem always focus on the "what" and leave the "why" unanswered. Just one of the many reason I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you, I'll be pressing this into duty this very weekend!
Thanks Steve.. I only recently discovered your channel, but I wanted to tell your instructionals have already begun to pay off. Not just with lure recommendations, but more importantly with examining, and thinking things through.. I fish local tournaments as a Co-angler, and a video like this one gives me a whole new perspective on strategy from the back deck. Keep them coming sir!!
Thank you for taking the time to write me. I really appreciate it! It's hearing from anglers and what is helpful that keeps me inspired to keep content coming. Good luck in your tournaments. Fishing as a co-angler is an entirely different approach.
It all changed for me when I quit WORRYING about catching a limit and just started going fishing. When I back my boat off the trailer, the last thing on my mind is a limit of bass, even in a tournament scenario.
Really great content man, the ditches and the part about fishing bridges is something I will defiantly remember for the upcoming season, thank you for all of your efforts it’s greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much. I’m heading to Lake Havasu next weekend to fish solo (for fun) while our son co-angles on another boat in a tournament. I’ll be looking for those spots for smallmouth getting ready to spawn.
Yes! Thanks for watching. I love that Scheels store. Feel free to reach out any time. I am always happy to talk fishing. My email is steve@thebassfishinglife.com
Interesting concept Steve! Seeing that I typically fish without electronics , I have to pay more attention to my surroundings above water to know what’s happening underwater! Kind of a lost art now a days....,🎣
I really like your videos. it makes good sense the way you explain things. Do you have a video on OVER HAND CAST!!!!!!! all you pros make it look so easy when do you let your thumb off the reel when I do it my bait doesn"t go vary far; but when I let go at the top I do ok i need help!!!!!!
Thanks! Here is a video on setting the braking system that will make the thumb release much more forgiving. Setting the Brakes on a Baitcast Reel to Eliminate Backlashes | Easy Baitcast Brake Adjustments th-cam.com/video/Rx9T6FYbIOI/w-d-xo.html I hope this one helps. If not, let me know. Thanks so much for watching.
The bass are spawning at my lake and are right up at the shore but they won't bite anything! I've tried wakey rigs, texas rigs, minnow lures, top water frogs, etc. And tips?
If they are locked on tight, I have luck by putting a lure right in that bed. If you hit the right spot, they will get irritated by it and go to move the lure, not eat it. Experiment with colors, etc. On my lake, the raiding bluegills drive them buts, so I often go with something in that color spectrum, but using a bright color is nice so you can see it. The bass are definitely in a defensive mode more than feeding mode so as anglers we need to try to use that to our advantage.
Here is a video on how to double or maybe triple your catch rate: th-cam.com/video/EK_zAmFcE6Y/w-d-xo.html. Have a wonderful day!

This is so valuable! Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
Best bass content on YT right here. Thank you SO MUCH!
Glad you enjoy it!
My brother always used to say “fish the edges of the ledges.”
Love this! Great way to think about the underwater environment

Steve, this is one of the best ones I’ve seen! Thanks-as a hunter I could visualize right with ya. Bridge info top notch too! Really Awesome video
Thank you! I agree. Watching wildlife from a treestand has really paid off with my bass fishing. Thanks for watching!
Knowledge is a beautiful thing, well done, keep up the good work
Thank you! I will do my best to keep them coming.
You are an excellent teacher. Keep up the good work. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

Lol I actually do this w cattle. Does help paint a bigger picture for sure
I always wonder what bass do in the winters here in Minnesota once the lakes freeze. It’s very rare for me to catch or see them in the winter.
Steve this is a great video, we forget little things that cost us fish. Great job
Thanks! It sure helped me a lot.
You all right with me Steve. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you
Thanks! I appreciate it.

Great video! The part about visualizing everything underwater was very interesting and I've never thought about! I will definitely be trying this!
Good luck! I hope it helps as it did for me. So thankful for the opportunity to share and learn.

It makes a big difference for sure! Relaxing makes a huge impact on how we fish. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Thx
Really great content man, the ditches and the part about fishing bridges is something I will defiantly remember for the upcoming season, thank you for all of your efforts it’s greatly appreciated!!
You're welcome! I hope you catch a pile of 'em. The ditches have paid off for me multiple times.
Excellent advice. Thanks!

Absolutely a wonderful video. Great job Steve.
Thank you! I was very excited to share it with everyone. Hopefully, it helps others like it helped me.

Great video and thank you for the pointers. We talked at Sheels on Saturday about jerkbaits.

For sure. It sure is fun fishing with great anglers in the past and getting to learn from them old school. Has helped so much.

Leave the ones on their beds alone to spawn, and your fishery will be that much better in a few years.
Great video!
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it.
Go study Buck Perry and all your questions about movements of fish will be answered for his discoveries came about 50 years ago
Excellent! Thank you so much for sharing that.
👍 Buck Perry and spoonplugging... how structure fishing became defined.
I'm 50, and been fishing over 40 yrs..still doesn't make sense..lmao.
There are sure plenty of days when that is so true. Lol. Usually right after I think I have it figured out.
Great video!!!
Thank you! I really appreciate you watching.
